Video conversion software recommendations. MOV to MPG, WMV

Can someone please recommend an inexpensive video conversion software package? I'm trying to convert a QTMOV to MPG or WMV for Windows users without QT installed. Any help appreciated. I'm a recent Windows convert.

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Quicktime Pro ($30us) is an excellent value video tool which can handle editing, layers, transparency etc etc. It can export to a variety of formats (although not WMV for obvious reasons). I'd be tempted to wait a couple of months though as QT8 will probably be around soon and will require a new key to be bought.
Also check out these applications on MacUpdate.

  • Professional video conversion software that converts .mov to OGG Theora and/or WebM?

I'm looking for a professional grade video conversion software that can convert Quicktime (.mov) files to HTML5 video formats such as Ogg Theora and WebM. There are tons of free ones but I haven't found one that does a very good job. I've tried Bigasoft's converters but I'm a bit disappointed with their very basic quality settings. I'd like to have more control over parameters such as bitrates, variable passes, etc. Does anyone know of something like this? It's also hard to trust if some of the converters out there are legit.
    Thanks!

I just found out about Firefogg and it seems to be working well enough for my immediate needs. Still curious to see if there is anything better out there though.

  • Choosing the right video conversion software

I am pretty sure this topic has been discussed with interesting comparative analyses, but could not find it.
If it exists, can someone be kind enough to show me the thread?
If it does not exist, then may I expose my problem:
I am normally exporting my video clips (from XDCAM-EX-HD) into Quicktime Movie using the XDCAM-EX 1080p30 Compressor in my sequence setting, to burn a Blu-Ray. So far it works fine.
But I also want to export them in a format to be read in Full HD by Sony PS3. The only format I found which works is HD for Apple TV which is only 720p and the picture is of much lower quality than from the Blu-Ray.
I would like therefore a software which could convert the .mov file into a DVIX or MP4 file in 1080p resolution which can be read by the PS3.
Which is these numerous conversion software can do it?

This thingy...which is a pack of presets for Compressor...has one for PS3.

  • Software simulations - mov, fla, avi, wmv, ???

If I need to do a software simulation in full motion, because
captivate won't capture certain things, and if I need the capture
to be around 800x600 or 1028x768 in order to capture the entire
software screen, what output format video should I use.....if I
capture with Camtasia, I can output fla, avi, mov, wmv, swf. Which
one is best? Assume that people will access the video from a
    broadband connection.
it seems like avi is too huge, but the swf was large too. FLA
looked good., but it seems like variable bit rate quicktime movies
    look great and are small.
    help
    thanks

SWF is probably best. FLA is a Flash source file, so that
    won't do your
users any good, of course, if they don't have Flash (and
    really isn't
meant to be a 'distributable' format). If you want to do FLA,
    you'd want
to then open that file in Flash and output in some published
    format...
I see no problem with QT, other than folks may not have QT on
    their
    machine...

  • What is a good video conversion software?

I would like one that was free, preferably. It also needs to be able to convert .MOI to .MOV

.moi files are irrelevant - they only contain info about the video contained in associated .mod files.  You probably meant .mod files.
MPEG Streamclip can convert .mod files to QuickTime .mov.  Note that you will also need the QuickTime MPEG2 Playback Component if you do not already have it on your Mac (needed to enable the conversion).
If you are converting the files in order to edit in Final Cut or iMovie, you need to convert to QuickTime/Apple Intermediate Codec.

  • VIDEO CONVERSION SOFTWARE

what can i use to convert video files? i need to convert from MPEG4 and AVI to an acceptable format to import into FCP.
actually, I thought i would be able to import the above formats, no? I am having trouble.
    Thanks, Scott

i captured video from a dvd and they only come in AVI or MPG4<<</div>
I don't know where you got that information, but it is incorrect. DVD-Video consists of MPEG-2 video, which has been muxed and specially formatted as VOB files.
For non-copyrighted footage from a DVD-Video, you can capture directly from a DVD player by connecting one to your DV device then using the "Non-Controllable Device" setting and Capture Now in FCP. Or you can use any one of several software titles (such as MPEG Streamclip) to convert the VOB files into an editable format that FCP can work with.

  • Video Conversion Software for Mac

    Hi Guys,
Can anyone recommend a good powerful package for converting various video formats for Mac?
    Thanks in advance!

    Keep the PC.
Compressor is an encoder, not necessarily a universal transcoder. Look for products by Sorenson, Telestream and Autodesk. Spendy.
You're not going to be happy with Quicktime's remarkable limitations and the lack of third party support for all of those different formats and codecs. Hundreds of codecs were never written for QT.
Use your PC to wrangle the clips into a common format and then port the file to your Macintosh for editing in FCP.

  • Best video to ipod video converter software

What is the best program I can buy for coverting my dvd's and other videos (including recorded tv shows on my dvr) to ipod video? Thanks.

Hopefully in answer to the many posts on “how to get various video formats onto your iPod” I have put together a summary of applications I use. I have tried a few others with varying amounts of success (some of which are free) - I have finally plumped for the software produced by Xilisoft as providing good quality video relatively affordable cost for use withPC’s and numerous MS operating systems. The link below takes you to their site which not only allows you to download trail versions of their software but also has a comprehensive set of tutorials and FAQ's for their iPod video conversion software.
I have regularly used these applications to convert various file formats to iPod friendly video. They are simple to use although frequently processor and RAM hungry:
Use Xilisoft iPod Video Converter if you want to:
[*]Convert various video file formats to MP4
[*]Convert most audio file formats to MP3
[*]Extract audio from video file and save to MP3
    [*]Encode several files simultaneously
[*]Pause encoding process to run other CPU time consuming programs at any time
    Supported file formats:
    Video:
    [*]MPEG(mpg, mpeg, dat, vob); WMV; ASF; AVI; QuichTime(mov, qt); MPEG4(mp4); 3GP; DV(dv,
    dif); Real Video(rm); Animated GIF(gif - decoding only); Macromedia Flash(swf - decoding
    audio only);
    Audio:
[*]MPEG Audio(mp2, mp3); WMA; WAV; AU; MPEG4 Audio(m4a); Real Audio(ra); OGG; AAC; Raw
    AC3(ac3); NUT Open Container Format(nut);
To convert DVD's to an iPod friendly video format:
Use Xilisoft DVD to iPod V4:
[*]Just pop the DVD in your drive select compression variables (default settings work well) and sit back!
All these products are available on a "try before you buy basis", yes there are applications for XP which are free but and may work just as well but I have converted many hours of video for my iPod without hassle using the Xilisoft products (no I don't work for them!). Check there web site HERE

  • Camcorder for iPad without conversion software?

Is there a list of iPad ready camcorders that do not need a video conversion software?  Camcorders that already output in H.264 .mov .mp4 or .m4v formats?

Suggest you use Pages, but I'm not touching the "without problems" caveat, sorry

  • How to publish to video format avi , wmv , mov or mpg ?

How to publish to video format avi , wmv , mov or mpg ?

    Hello there,
You can publish as MP4 from Captivate and then use any video converters to convert from MP4 to whatever format you need. But, as Lilybiri mentioned, there won't be any interactivity in the videos.
    Thanks,

.mods are (somekind of) mpegs ...
At first I though he was talking about the ancient audio .mod files:
"The first version of the format was created by Karsten Obarski for use in the Soundtracker tracker released for the Amiga computer in 1987".

Oh, nostalgia ain't what it used to be!

Sorry for this question. Can you use this device with Vlc or QuickTime? Does skype support it? Is this device supported only by its own software?
I need a device that can work with my own software. My software can work only with a QuickTime supported device.
Thanks if you will reply to me.

  • I am unable to download movies, MPG, WMV, etc. with Safari. Why? Any solutions?

I am unable to download MPG, WMV,MPEG,etc, movies from the web when I am using Safari. Chrome works fine. Is there something in Safari that has to be adjusted or disabled to make it work?

There is some anecdotal evidence that the scripts on the Apple site that are supposed to detect the version of Windows you are running may fail for some users - jumping straight to the "Thank you for downloading ..." page with the installer not having been downloaded.  As an alternative, you can go directly to the relevant downloads:
    iTunes 12.1.0.71 for Windows (32-bit) - itunessetup.exe
    iTunes 12.1.0.71 for Windows (64-bit) - itunes6464setup.exe
There is an alternative downloader for 64-bit editions of Windows here:
iTunes 12.1 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards)
that seems to address the playback issues that some users have been reporting with the full 64-bit version (the alternative installer here is the same architecture as most previous "64-bit" versions of iTunes, i.e., a 32-bit application with a 64-bit installer).  The "for older video cards" reference does not seem to fully define the scope of systems for which this alternative works better.
See turingtest2's notes on Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for more details if you're still having problems with installation.

  • Recommended iPod Conversion Software?

What would you all recommend for iPod Conversion software. I have several .avi files that I want to convert to iPod. I've heard Cucusoft is a good one. There are several free programs out there, however they don't sync the audio and video together very well. I'm looking for a program that syncs the audio and video very well. I am willing to pay for the right program as well, but if a free one exists, that would work as well. I have tried MPEG Streamer, and it doesn't work for me. I have also tried Videora and it was one of the programs that didn't synch the audio and video together very well. Do you all think that Cucusoft is a good program and are they worth $40? If there is a better deal on a program that is just as good if not better, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you.

    Never heard of mpeg streamer.

  • Is there video capture software which will capture only the canvas and not my cursor or the way I move the canvas?

    Hi,
Does anybody know of a video capture software which only captures the canvas and not my cursor or the way I move the canvas?
I want to simulate a painting being created brush stroke by brush stroke. It would also be good if I could select the layer that it is meant to be recording.
I guess this would have to be a plugin of some sort.
If not - do you have any good suggestions of the best workflow of creating this from Photoshop to After Effects (I don't want to use revealing paths etc...)
    Thanks for any help,
    Luke

It would also be good if I could select the layer that it is meant to be recording.
That won't work. Screen cap tools by their nature always capture the display buffer of the whole active window. At best, they respect GDI "drawing layers" and regions like Camtasia does, meaning they differntiate between mouse cursors, window frames and the actual content to get more efficient compression. For the rest - see the previous answer.
