Video Converter like Super for Linux?

I use Super by erightsoft to convert avi files into MP4's to view on the N95.
Am now considering moving from Windows to Linux.
Does anyone have any experience of a Linux video converter program that works?

Maybe this?

What specifically are you looking to do?  Integrate with iMovie?  Generically convert video between formats?

  • Which video converter is best for quality on apple tv?

I am trying to find a video converter that will convert video into the best possible quality for my apple tv. I have looked around but there is so many and too make the choice even harder I have both windows and osx on my mac so I am not even limited on choice in terms of operating system.
I would appreciate some suggestions on which I should use.

Video formats such as avi and wmv.
I have one video that I can play on my notebook using QuickTime and iTunes 9.1.0.79; however, AppleTV can not play it because it was encoded at 192 Kbps with resolution higher than 720x432 pixels. The video is in MPEG-4 (.mp4). I'll have to check out handbrake and see if it will re-encode it (lower quality) for AppleTV.
I think you may need to check your video - certainly 720x432 is way below the specifications of the Apple TV. The HD content from the iTunes store at 1280x720 plays perfectly fine on my Apple TV and if I was you I certainly wouldn't even consider re-encoding a movie lower than 720x432 with HandBrake - it will look worse than it probably already does.
P.S. 192 Kbps has nothing to do with your video bit-rate, and as for AVI & WMV I think you may need to move on from your 80's obsession

  • Using AVS Video Converter 5.5 for DVD on iPod

  • My mac gets really hot once I start using a video converter like HANDBRAKE or MIRO VIDEO CONVERTER!!Is it normal or shd I do smthin bout it!?!??!:/

The fan begins to oscillate a lot faster and the laptop gets heated up in like 2 minutes:/

Yes, this is completely normal and it's nothing to worry about. Macs, and all computers really, get hot and the fans are used intensely when doing big tasks such as converting videos.
    Hope this helps,

  • An HTML-kit - like editor for Linux [SOLVED]

In my workplace we are using Windows XP and there our editor of choice is HTML-kit. I like Gedit and Bluefish a lot in Linux but both are missing the feature I like the most in HTML-kit: the live FTP connection that makes all the files visible directly from FTP and then when I am editing them, they got directly uploaded to the FTP server. All without the need to manually ALT-TAB into an FTP client, find the proper file and upload it.
Is there an editor that might do to the same thing in Linux?

I know this isn't exactly what you want but I use Bluefish this way:
I have a webserver where I upload my html files to and I do all the editing and have all source files on my laptop.
To make things easier and avoid having to do the alt-tab thing you talked about I have created a small script that I run from within Bluefish to do the upload for me. The script is very simple... something like this:
    #!/bin/bash
    lftp -u username,password 192.168.0.2 <<EOF
    cd /home/httpd/html/
    put $1
    quit 0
    EOF
In Bluefish under preferences->external programs you can then call this script by adding it to "utilities and filters" like this:
    "/home/user/ftp_upload.sh %s"
The last step would be to create a short-cut key so that you only have to press eg Ctrl+g, or what ever you want, to save and upload the file you are currently working on.
This method doesn't let you browse the remote ftp directory and edit files directly, but I find it to be a very smooth way to quickly edit and upload your local files to an ftp server.

  • Statistics package like Spotfire for Linux?

Anyone?  I used Spotfire while ago while still in school.   It's a really powerful data visualization tool.  Right now I have some pretty big datasets that I'd like to visualize graphically (xy-plot and histograms).  Graphing them in oo calc is very limiting and it doesn't do histograms at all.  Spotfire did each of these with several mouse clicks.  Is there anything like it that runs on Linux?  I haven't found much.
I'd like something with a GUI which rules out most of what I've found which seem to be heavily shell based software (gnuplot for example).

I don't know Spotfire, but you might look at gnuplot in conjunction with QOctave (a grpahic front end to Octave a [Matlab clone]), and XMaxima or WXMaxima (graphic front ends to Maxima [A symbolic math package])
    Edit: fixed a typo

  • Video Converter Application/Software For Mac

I would like some recomendations on there types of apps.
I plan on mostly converting .mkv and .avi to .mp4 or any format that is compatible with the iPhone 4 and/or AppleTV 3.
I have seen the Smart Converter on the App Store but i am not so sure about it

What do you need it to do?
SnapzProX is the traditional leader, but it's been falling behind in the last few years due to its aging UI and feature set.
There's a new wave of capture apps that do more than SnapzProX. Some prefer iShowU now. The Layers app records windows as individual objects so if you later notice something was in the wrong place, you can rearrange them afterwards instead of reshooting. Camtasia is a popular Windows app that many Mac users considered superior to SnapzProX and were happy Camtasia finally came over to the Mac. ScreenFlow has some features that SnapzProX is definitely missing like the ability to highlight where the cursor is, and display an overlay of which shortcut keys are being pressed.
If you only want to record the entire screen and you're not picky about frame rate, quality, formats, or presets, you can just use the built-in screen capture in Snow Leopard.

  • What is the best, safest MXF video converter for mac?

I need to view MXF video files on my macbook pro. Wondering if anyone knows what is the best video converter to use for these files?

Hi, I just got one recommended to you. It is iOrgSoft Video Mate. It can convert camcorder footages like MXF, AVCHD, MTS, XAVC, MOD, etc to regular video formats like MP4, MOV, 3GP, etc. I usually it to convert AVCHD files from my Sony cam. I think it works fine for me. You can have a try using it to convert MXF files.

  • Play Video full wide screen for E90??

    Hi,
Is there any software that can convert any videos files to play full wide screen in E90??Many thanks!!
    E90 Communicator V 07.40.1.2!!

Any video you stretch to the full width of the E90 will be distorted, as the screen aspect ratio is not 4:3 or 16:9 which is what videos typically use.
In any case, you can try a converter like SUPER: http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER/

  • Oracle 8i for Linux is here!

Looks like 8i for Linux is here. Check the download link on the
left of this page. I ordered a CD a while back, but got an NT
version. Anyone know if Oracle intends to send out the 8i/Linux
CD to those that asked for it (during the EAP window)?
    null

I had an Alpha I wanted to install 8i on under Linux, but at
this point it only supports Linux on an Intel box. You may want
to check the migration path to see if Oracle plans to port to a

  • Lab SQL for Linux

    Hello
Is there a LabSQL or something similar for linux?
    Best regards
    Andreas Beckman

    Hi again.
Thanks alot for the time. It´s appriciated. Had a look at the open group and saw that they were supposed to do something like labsql for linux, "in the future" .
However, until there is a better solution I can recommend that linux users use the psql client (for postgresql, there is probbably some client for mysql too) with the labview command line vi. If you allocate a bunch of data and send them thru the command line vi like once or twice a second it works quite well.
    Thanks

  • Skype is dead for linux

I run a radio station that is total linux, i use KX Studio since prior to the latest update Skype would work perfectly. Enter in 4.3 NOW ( Yes I shouted) Now by removing Alsa support Skype wont work at all on my studio computer. So I had to buy another box to run skype.
Another **bleep** by Micro$oft. The latest version WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO ADD A CALLTO A CONVERSATION. Again I was shouting because I am flipping mad. I am on with my cohost who lives in Mass. A caller wants to call in and there is no way to answer the call with out putting the original on hold. In 4.2 one would right click and choose invite to conversation.Since this **bleep** I have quit paying for skype. Why pay for it when I get no customer service  except "Jello Mah naaaame is John may assistance be with your Skype please issues?" Sorry for the sarcasim but the so called live help didn't even know what Linux was. He then suggested to go back to an earlier version. Uh Mr Johnny Skype was so kind to BLOCK 4.2 and below! Then this .....person suggested that I install WINDBLOWS on my computers!!!! Is there a work around or shall I continue my work on making Ekiga work on windows so I can open source it and my callers can call my show. (There is a windows version  it is just very weak. Hmmmm kind of like Skype for Linux!) May next thing to try is to re write the APK file to .deb and use the andriod version. Hey MICROSOFT Andriod is Linux!!!

You are sooo right! I am a linux(ubuntu) user for 3 years, and started using skype 4 years ago. Well, last year i had it enough with skype so i moved on at Hangouts(Google), that they have an EXCELLENT support on Linux machines and it works perfectly, and also with my android(google) phone. And now *Βιtcη* im awesome and and i dont need a *bleep* from microsoft. Also i requested my 7 colleges to switch at Hangouts too so we can work there and guess what..  .. they did  So i have stopped using Skype, and everybody that says to me "Lets Skype!" i say "NO! Lets go Hangouts". Oh, and yes we do, and yes they like it, and yes they start using it...
And this is how they lose costumers
