Video Converter Suggestions?

I just got my nano today (yay!) so now I'm just looking for a good video converter to convert AVI files. I have an iMac running on Tiger and I was wondering if anyone had any good suggestions? I'm going overseas in a couple of days and want to get the videos on my nano up and running in time for the plane ride! There are so many options out there I don't know which one to choose.
Thanks for the help!

Try using MPEG Streamclip. Note that AVI is a container, not a format, and some files of this type may not be usable on the Mac.

  • Video Converter Freezing on Zen Visio

Hi all,?Everytime?I try to do video conversion using the video converter that came with the Zen Vision:M software it will completely lock up my machine. I called tech support and they suggested Uninstalling and reinstalling the creative software in a clean boot, which I did. The problem still happened, then they told me "Sorry, we can't help you anymore...check the website for updates" I'm converting various types of AVI files. Some from digital cameras, the internet, and newly encoded files but they all freeze. I know I could just copy them to the player, but the point of the video converter is to reduce the size when it's on the player so I'm not wasting space. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi,
It seems that most video subscription services do not work with the Zen Vision: M or W but I have found that Amazon Unbox works with these players. You download the program from Amazon (Free)? then you purchase or rent the videos that you want to see and they will download to your computer then the downloaded program from Amazon will trnsfer them to your device. Hope this helps!

  • Used to convert all my videos into iPhone mp4 format using Any Video Converter - then add it to my iPhone 3GS. But last few days, I cant add video files to iTunes. and the iTunes doesnt even specify the reason except for that "files are not supported"

Everyting was perfect earlier. Used to convert all my videos into iPhone mp4 format using Any Video Converter - then add it to my iPhone 3GS. But last few days, I cant add video files to iTunes. and the iTunes doesnt even specify the reason except for that "files are not supported"
    Everything is fine.
    -They are the right format
    -Quicktime is updated
-I have tried simply dragging them into the 'movie' library
-I have tried going to file<add file to library
Nothing works, has anyone else had this problem and found a way around it?
    Any and all help appreciated.

In addition to Mike's suggestions,  you only have 4GB of RAM and Mavericks does use more RAM than other versions. You may also want to look at the apps that startup on login and the possiblity of upgrading RAM.

  • Import error with MPEG-2 files: Brorsoft Video Converter to Apple Prores.

    Hi,
The Brorsoft Video Converter software gives me an 'import error' message when I attempt to import files from a folder on my desktop. That folder contains many mpg files (MPEG-2 Video, AC3). Those files in the folder on my desktop came from a Sony video camera.
I need to convert those mpg files to Apple Prores 422 HQ so I can then edit them in Apple Final Cut Pro X.
But when I go to import those mpg files into the Brorsoft Video Converter software, it comes up with a message saying: 'import error', indicating that the Brorsoft Video Converter software does not understand the type of file.
I am on Mac OS X Version 10.6.8.
I've emailed Brorsoft support but I don't think English is their first language – they've emailed back to me asking for clarification of the problem. And I need the problem fixed as I have to edit this video for someone that has many waiting customers.
Could something have changed in the files when I copied them from the video camera to the desktop?
    Thanks in advance.
    Cheers,
    Paul

    Hi Tom,
Thanks for your prompt reply. I was using a friend's video camera – I've just texted him for the exact model of Sony video camera. I didn't yet have the Brorsoft Video Converter software when I had to give the video camera back to my friend. So, I copied the files off the video camera to my desktop.
It records onto an internal hard drive. And yes you're right, I don't need to go HQ. I also tried plain Apple Pro Res. That didn't work either. It comes up with 'Import error' message, so it seems like it just doesn't understand the file type.
When I go 'Get Info' on one of the files off the camera, it tells me it is an 'MPEG-2 video, AC3' file.
I'll try and get MPEG Streamclip like you suggested and see if that works.
    Thanks again.
    Cheers,
    Paul

  • Who knows of a good video converter from Real Media Player to mp4

I have downloaded an open source video converter (HandBrake) but the images are not that clear.
Could you suggest another software to get to convert better images from *.rm to *.mp4?
Or can I use that same software? Any suggestions of how to improve them?
    Thank you,
    Dr. Rosie

    Hi Nijenhuis,
I checked it in a Website, will give it a try as you suggest. I have an additional question: How good are the images with this conversion?
    Thank you,
    Dr. Rosie

  • Video Converter~~ MP4--RMVB/MKV

    HI~
Can anyone suggest some video converter for me? I want to convert my MP4 format files to either RMVB or MKV format, but I dont know which converter is better to use..
    Thanks~

No, you will need to convert the files on a PC before they can be used on the phone. I don't know of any app that can convert video files on the device.

  • Best Mac video converter (file based) - Search is down...

    Greetings,
I was planning on doing a search, but it's down at this time...
I'm looking for what's considered to be the best and most flexible file based video converter for the Mac. I need to convert VCD's to a format iMovie 08 can edit to output a DVD (yes, yes, I'm aware of quality between the two, this is what my friend needs...)
With the same software I'd like to do all of the fancy conversion file to file be it FLV, MOV, DAT, MPEG etc.
I've been looking at Aimersoft, iSkysoft, and Video Converter for Mac so far.
Any suggestions and personal experience would be wonderful!

There seems to be no need to rename the file extension. I just selected the file from inside the VCD folder and was recognized as a video file.
It's currently converted, but looks glitchy (not on the original). Maybe this is just a product of playing a high demand file on my MacBook?

  • Video converter to IPad 2

I have purchased a video converter (aiseesoft) to be able to view my HD recordings on my IPad. Although i tried every possible format (MPEG4) I can't download the newly converted files to ITunes nor my IPad! Any suggestions?

H.264/MPEG4 with 1800 kbps encoding rate.  256kbps audio rate.  Anything lower decreases quality.   Note: this is only if you own the rights to the video.  Commercial video extraction of this sort is illegal in the United States, and any such discussion is strictly forbidden on this board.

  • Best video converter program

I have also heard that quicktime pro 7 takes a long time and is better for mac users? Any other suggestions to my ongoing struggle with converting videos?

Samething happened to me , got a virus from videroa and my mose diddn't work. but anyway try total video converter. Its free for 15 days , so convert all of the videos you want to go to the ipod before times up. :-P

  • Good Video Converter For Mac

Whats the best free video converter? I was using iSquint but videos just werent comming out right.
    anyone else have any suggestions?

Well here are a few to try:
handbreak I use and I like, it is more for ripping DVD's but it can convert

MPEG Streamclip this is not a program that is for making ipod video's but there is a setting for it, you have lots of control over the settings if that is what you want. If you are not sure of settings it could be alittle overwhelming.

  • Which is the best video converter for Final Cut Pro 7?

Hi, I am using Fincal Cut Pro 7.0.3 and I am looking to find the most compatible, most efficient video converter to work with my FCP 7, I need import vidoe file formats such as AVI, MPEG, MTS to edtiting in FCP 7, and I am having hard time to converting them, even I managed to convert them and imported them into FCP they need rendering again and again in FCP and that wasted me tons to precisous time.
Any suggestions?  Thank you so very much!
    Kevin

Compressor.  Second, I would choose Episode.  But then MPEG Streamclip is very usefull when convert from many of the MPEG formats.  Keep in mind that formats such as those you listed are merely wrappers; the codec contained within could be one of dozens of codec, some of which may not convert well.

  • Which video converter is best for quality on apple tv?

I am trying to find a video converter that will convert video into the best possible quality for my apple tv. I have looked around but there is so many and too make the choice even harder I have both windows and osx on my mac so I am not even limited on choice in terms of operating system.
I would appreciate some suggestions on which I should use.

Video formats such as avi and wmv.
I have one video that I can play on my notebook using QuickTime and iTunes 9.1.0.79; however, AppleTV can not play it because it was encoded at 192 Kbps with resolution higher than 720x432 pixels. The video is in MPEG-4 (.mp4). I'll have to check out handbrake and see if it will re-encode it (lower quality) for AppleTV.
I think you may need to check your video - certainly 720x432 is way below the specifications of the Apple TV. The HD content from the iTunes store at 1280x720 plays perfectly fine on my Apple TV and if I was you I certainly wouldn't even consider re-encoding a movie lower than 720x432 with HandBrake - it will look worse than it probably already does.
P.S. 192 Kbps has nothing to do with your video bit-rate, and as for AVI & WMV I think you may need to move on from your 80's obsession

  • Creative video converter image fl

    Hello,
I am having trouble using the creative image converter every time I try to convert video it works but it flips the image upside down and horizontally so that I would have to flip my playe upside down and watch in a mirror to see it right.
It looks the same as the problem 20772 forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=dap&message.id=20772, but it still occurs when I untick 'Use advanced hardware overlay' in the DivX configuration tool.
    Thanks for your help.

mteitler, I would suggest you do what I do: completely forget about the Creative video converter and download the free program BADAK, then use that for a very fast conversion of your videos for the ZEN. For more info go to my previous posts or contact me so that I can provide the details. BADAK just is the best I have found for converting videos. macqueline.
