Video doesnt play propertly on iPod

I've downloaded a music video off iTunes, and even though it appears on my iPod, under the music videos section, it wont actually play anything. When I click to play, it goes to a black screen, and when i click the middle button, the "time passed" display line comes up, but it wont leave to 0 second mark, even if i try to fast forward it. Whats happening?

I'm having a similar problem as well, but I also can't play any of my purchased music on my iPod. I've tried downloading a couple of free videos from the Apple Store, but neither of them work. However, when I connect my iPod to my computer at work, I can play the videos and music directly on my copy of iTunes installed on that computer.
I'm wondering if this is some form of authorization problem, however. I had been using an iPod mini, but I received a 60gb iPod video as a gift (which my girlfriend bought used from a friend of ours). I've reformated the iPod, but perhaps I need to do something else to properly authorized it for my usage.

make sure you're trying to play it from the video section of the iPod. if you're trying to play it from the music section it'll just show a still photo of the band and play the music.

Video Doesnt play on Z10 device

i have a video of specifications as below:
1. Mp4 type
2. Frame width 720 Frame height 1280.
it doesnt play on Z10 device
it palys on Ios,andriod devices.
i have a very similar video with only change in frame width as 320.
it plays well.
what might be the issue, could anyone point out please? its a very urgent issue.

Oh...that's a completely different situation than you started with...you said, up front, that "it doesnt play on Z10 device", which leads one to believe that it does not play at all. Now you say it plays partway before failing. That is a completely different situation. Thank you for clarifying that.
However, I find nothing with "expectional error(1)" listed in the public KBs...are you sure that's the exact and complete error message? Perhaps you might have better luck searching:

Then again, since it plays partway, that tells me that something went wrong with the encoding of the file that, for some reason, causes the Z10 player to fail where some other payers can handle the error in the file. I can't tell you what that error is, but you might try re-encoding the file and seeing if you can get it to play all the way through.

Convert video to play on my ipod

how do i convert my videos that i downloaded to play on my ipod???

You should be aple to use iTunes and just make a right click and click convert to iPod, but for me that always gives a -54 error.
I have also tried converting with Quicktime Pro.
When I selected convert to iPod it works absolutly fine, but it takes realyl long, so I tried to cut the time, by decreasing the quality.
I tried to export a quicktime movie, in h.264 with Data rate restritec to 500 kbits and Dimensions 320x240 with audio aac at 64 kbits.
But for some reason the iPod does not accept this video.
Don't know why. Anybody know?

The background:
My camcorder (a JCV Everio) exports video as MPEG-2 (".mod") files. About the only thing that seems able to open these is the editing software that came with it - Cyberlink PowerDirector. This will export videos as MPEG-1, MPEG-2, or AVI (Windows or DV).
The only one of these that iTunes seems able to import is MPEG-1. It plays both video and audio together without a problem. However, it won't sync the file with my iPod. When I use iTunes "Convert selection for iPod" function, the resulting (m4v?) file lacks audio.
Is there a simple way to convert my source video files into a format that will play without problems on: Windows, Mac, iTunes, iPod, anything else I might like to throw at it, and not involve me paying "just $29.99" for some software that claims to convert water into wine and looks like it was built by a Serbian teenager?

I know that in your case it may not make a big difference UNLESS you want to do something else when encoding as it frees your CPU for other things. So, if you want to leave it encoding and nothing else, no difference. If you want to encode and do other CPU intensive stuff, maybe.

Some video have copy protection that prventplaying them ia VGA out from the iPod.

Ok I just wanted to check because this is NOT the Fifth Generation iPod group, so there was a chance you might have been posting in the correct group for your iPod, which would have been a PRE-video version. So you have the right iPod, just the wrong forum.
So do you both have the same firmware loaded in your iPods?
Have you tried a restore on yours to see if it makes any difference?

Navigate on your iPod to Videos > Video Settings.
Select TV Out to set it to Off or Ask.
