Video dongles left over from 12" Powerbook

I have just ordered a MacPro for my wife. She was using my old 12" Powerbook up till now. I have two video dongles left over from the 12" PB. One is a VGA port, and the other has an S-video and RCA video out connectors. They have the same compact video connector as the MacBook. Will these work with the new MacBook?

Ok - I realize that I typed MacPro in the first message when the computer is a MacBook. It is here and I know for show that the old dongles do not fit - the size of the connector is different.
So that sews it up readers - you can not use the dongles from the 12" Powerbook on the MacBook

Why do videos always start over from the beginning? A bug??

I just did the update and still have the same issue where videos always start from the beginning, when I WANT them to start where they left off. I went into Settings>Video>Start Playing and selected "Where Left Off", but that didn't help. Is this a bug?? I want it to act as it did on my 3G where I can exit the middle of a video and it will start from that point next time I enter the video... Any ideas???

I have the same problem, not only with videos but with my playlist as well. Everything seems to restart from the beginning.

Junk left over from Lion - can I delete it?

Having reverted from Lion 10.7 to SL 10.6.8, I find some folders that I think are Lion specific (I know, I did it the wrong way; I should have wiped the disc before cloning back...but its too late now as I already updated a load of stuff, then re-cloned my source to update it before I noticed this stuff).
Can anyone tell me which of these I can safely delete? I'm assuming I definitely don't need DocumentRevisions-P100, not sure about the Spotlight-P100. I s that Lion specific Spotlight file? I don't think 10.6.8 supports mobilebackups either, and have not idea what .hotfiles.btree is.
Any help much appreciated.

You are seeing a number of files/folders, the dimmed ones, that normally should be invisible. You DO NOT want to delete them. I'm seeing mostly 10.6 ones; there may be one or two that are Lion specific. I don't know Lion, but if they aren't doing any harm, just make them all invisible and forget about them.
Open the terminal and type or copy/paste:
To make visible.
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool true
Reverting to the default of NOT showing hidden files ( use this one):
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool false
Restart or Force Quit Finder required to take effect.
killall Finder

Kernel panics every time (shut down your computer). When it stays on I get blotched video, left-over spots, tearig and then shut down your computer...

I use my PowerPC Quicksilver G4 (2.1), 867 MHz, 1.5 GB standart video card system 10.4.11 to scan (lack of driver for my Mac Pro 10.6.8)
The G4 has been running flawless, now I get kernel panics every time (shut down your computer). When it stays on I get blotched video
left-over spots, tearig and then shut down your computer...
I did all recommended software tests Diskutility, rebuild with DiskWarrior and Apples full Hardware test. Everything comes out fine!

Yes I ran short and the Extended Test. All pass. One of the first things I did is Safe Boot several times I also repaired permissions. Safe boot takes no longer than before the crashes and as long as I stay in safe boot mode it won't crash. What does that mean?I also ran MacJanitor and removed the SCCUZI card Apple put in when I bought the G4 as well as an M-Audio Delta 66 card which I do not use (both) anymore. I also started up on an external firewire drive 10.4.6. It also (crashes) does the same thing.
I was hoping somebody understands the crash report I enclosed? Isn't that suppose to say what went wrong?

I have credit in my account, iBooks charges the credit and there is still credit left over but seems to be taking the tax from card on file. Is this how it works?

Totally confused here as I have credit in my account. It seems to be using the gift card credit, but I still get a little bit taken from my credit card. No I'm not using up all the actually gift card credit, the price is under that. I still have credit left over. But continue to receive charges of 1.03 or 4.28 to my charge card and not taking amount from gift card.

I was having this problem too. Last night, before I rented a movie, I turned iTunes on on my iMac. I rented the movie from iTunes on apple tv, then checked my acount on my iPad. My account updated once I logged into it. Maybe you need to have iTunes running when purchasing or renting.

Also, when I wanted to keep a clip, I just right clicked and a menu appeared and I would then click on "Save as" or similar. Now there doesn't appear to be any way to save the clips. Apart from a faster and more powerful computer I feel I've gone backwards. Can anyone help?

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

They don't normally appear in the download screen ... until I attempt to download another movie. Then they just start appearing. If you click edit - a normal movie download has a circle that appears on the left hand side that allows you to select and delete ... these movies don't have that option so you need to find the movie in you list (under movies) and select the download cloud symbol again to stop it downloading ...you may need to do this a number of times before it stops for a while ... or until you try to download a movie then it starts all over again.
i have logged out of my itunes account. restarted the iPad, removed all movies, restarted the iPad, logged back into my iTunes account and restarted my iPad .... but as soon as I tried to download a single movies ... the other movies started appearing in the downloads again.

YES! See the my old instructions below. What you might try after step 5 is to restart you MBP holding down the Option key. Select the new HDD icon and see if it boots. This way you will know that the new HDD is operable.

INSTALLING A NEW HDD IN A MB
1. Make certain that you have backed up all of your important data.
2. You will need a HDD enclosure. One with a USB connection will do. A 9 pin Firewire is better.
3. Install your new drive in the enclosure and connect it to your MBP.
4. Open DISK UTILITY>ERASE. From the left hand column drag the new drive into the 'Name' field. Make sure that the format is 'Mac OS Extended (Journaled)'. Click on the 'Erase' button.
5. Click on the 'Restore' button (on top). Drag the old drive into the 'Source' field and the new drive into the 'Destination' field. Click on the 'Restore' button on the bottom right hand corner.
Depending upon the amount of data you are transferring, this may take a couple hours or more. A Firewire will speed up the transfer. This will result in both drives having identical information on them.
6. After the data transfer has completed, you may swap the drives. Start the MBP and you have finished the installation. The initial boot may take a bit longer than you are accustomed to, but that is normal.
7. When you are satisfied that the new hard drive if functioning properly, you can erase the old drive and use it for any needs that you may have.

Are you using the apple supplied S-VHS cord? It is a rather strange cord that ends with a standard video-out NOT S-VHS. Seems that you cannot use a standard S-V
HS to S-VHS but the supplied apple cord. If you want to do S-VHS to S-VHS then you have to buy another cord from apple - of course!
Also, to get the image onto tv I press the apple button + F1 (or sometimes F2) which automatically detects the display. You can use this instead of going into system pref.
Good luck getting it all to work.

How can I delete all of my calendars and start over from scratch?

I am sure this is an easy question because it seems that others before me have probably been in this situation. I wish to delete my calendars (and todo lists, etc) in iCal. In essence I want to start over from scratch as if I had not yet used iCal.
Do you have any advice on how I can go about doing so?

Select the calendar(s) you want to delete in the Calendars list on the left side of the iCal window. Then hit the delete key or select Delete from the Edit menu.

Transfer itunes library from my powerbook G4 to new iMac?

Hi,
Just today I received my brand new 24" iMac, I used setup assistant to transfer the files from my powerbook G4 to the new iMac ( I use an external hard drive connected to my laptop where all the music is located ) and everything seem to transfer well with the exception of my music and videos on itunes... the library is there, but the music and videos didn't transfer ( I get the message that the files could not be found ) What do i need to do to move all my content (almost 180GB) to my new iMac?

I found out how to do it... just connect the external HD to the new iMac and transfer the itunes file and authorize the computer.
