Video download/playback question

I just got a new MacBook, upgrading from a Powerbook G4. I have a subscription to a video website. The new computer downloaded wmv files right in Quicktime. I loaded some other software, and now the video plays in the safari winodw directly. I would really like to get it back to the way it was.

It sounds like you have Flip4Mac plug-in installed. Is that correct? If so, go to your System Preferences>Flip4Mac>Plug-in panel. There, select "launch QT Player".

Inserting Flash video and playback question

Hello,
I am using Dreamweaver CS4 and I have inserted a Flash movie into a web page. It's working fine, except that I would like it to automatically go to a different web page when the video is done playing. Is there a setting for this within Dreamweaver itself or do I have to write an HTML script of some kind to make it do that?
Help and advice are appreciated. :)

I don't have any experience at all with Actionscript. Do I have to buy Flash? Or can I access/edit it as part of Dreamweaver?

Video Podcast Playback Problem

I have an issue where a single video podcast cannot be found by the iPod app on my iPhone.
+ The video Podcast is downloaded to my PowerBook's iTunes Podcast library and will play from there.
+ The video podcast in question is checked.
+ The iTunes and iPhones settings are correct, other video podcasts download and play.
+ When I sync the iPhone I can see the podcast is being downloaded to my iPhone in iTunes.
+ I've tried resubscribing and have looked at the file details on my PowerBook and it doesn't differ from any other video podcast.
The problem is that when I open the iPod app on the iPhone and click Podcasts the podcast is not listed. It is only true for this one podcast. Others, like The Onion video podcast are listed and play.
Searching the iPhone from the top level the iPhone finds the video podcast by name so it is for sure on the phone. Clicking on it starts playback like any other video podcast, but there is only a blank screen.
One workaround I found was to create a playlist on my PowerBook that contains podcasts. If I do this then the podcast can be played on the iPhone from this playlist and from the top level search. This is a workaround though and I would like to understand why the iPod app can't seem to find this one podcast.

This problem was fixed with the iPhone 3.1 software release. For those who are curious the video podcasts that were not showing up were from SnapStream's Beyond TV.

The icons for the Personas Plus and Video Download Helper extensions are not displaying on a fresh install of Firefox 3.6.12

I had to do a complete uninstall and reinstall of my up-t0-date Firefox due to another problem (it would only open one window), but after reinstalling my extensions, their icons were not displaying.
I uninstalled and reinstalled again, but the Personas Plus fox will not display in the status bar, and the Video Download Helper icon will not display in the Navigation toolbar, and is not available in the Customize Toolbars menu.
These extensions worked fine before. What's wrong now?

You need to set options in those add-ons and/or use Customize Toolbars. Always look at instructions on each add-on's page at https://addons.mozilla.org/ ,
-search for and locate the add-on,
-open the page for that add-on,
-review the information there,
-then visit and bookmark the developer's home page shown on the add-on page; many add-on developers also have a forum for questions, so look for a link on the developer's home page.

Posting lots of slides with video slow playback to a halt

In our slide of about 50 slides, when we have one video slide, it plays ok, but each slide we add after, makes the captivate play slower and slower. In this case, we have about a dozen slides with video, and with all video slides in, the playback is not useable. Video is set to progressive video download and are only a few meg in size
How can we handles several slides with video?

This sounds like a bandwidth issue.
Do you encounter the same slow playback issue if you publish the course to your local PC and play the course from your hard drive? If not, the issue isn't likely CPU-related.
If local playback is also slow, your CPU/RAM resources might be unable to keep up with decoding your video at it's current compression or size. You might need to use smaller, lighter video.
If you want to see whether or not your issue is related to bandwidth limitations, download the Charles web debugging proxy software (http://www.charlesproxy.com/download/) and use this to watch the actual downloads in progress for the videos in your course. If you see that Captivate is downloading more than one video at a time, this might explain why things start to bog down. You might need to restructure your course so that each video is downloaded separately as the user comes to it. At worst, tThis could require breaking your course into more modules.

Burning video downloaded from ITunes

is there a way to change the format of downloaded 'Shows' (not music) from ITunes (ex: 'The Office') to be able to save them in, and burn them w/ IDVD instead of ITunes? I want to be able to play the video downloaded from 'ITunes' in a regular DVD player. As it stands now, you can only playback these episodes on your Mac or an IPod... Any help is greatly appreciated!

I don't believe there is a way of changing the Format. But there is an accessory
that you can get in the Apple Store(you can access that from the home page)
that will allow you to connect your iPod directly to your TV and play everything from it on your TV. RCA patch cords for sound and S-Video that will adapt from
your iPod to the TV.

Windows Error on Video Download

I purchased a TV video and was watching the download process on the iTunes bar. Just as it looked complete, I received a Windows error message. You know the one that says "Windows error. Do you want to send error message?" After that it closed. Will I be charged for the video download even though I can't find it in iTunes? How do I decide what happened before I try it again?

When I looked after it appeared to download, I didn't find it in the video folder. After doing searches to no avail, I posted this thread. About 1/2 hour later I looked in the video folder again and it was there. At first when I clicked on it, it would not run but I could hear it in the background. It appeared to be downloading again (weird?). I dragged it onto the iPod icon. Miraculously it worked. The wonders of computers!
One other question - when I found it in the iTunes Music folder it was in a folder called "downloads." That is why I could not find it. Why doesn't it download under the name of the TV show (Passport to Europe - Rome, Italy)? I guess I can right-click on it and rename it, but if I download anything else will it always be in there under a "download" folder?

Constroll video download bitrate

Hi everyone,
I have the following problem:
I'm developing a portfolio site for myself and publish some
video.
For playback I use
NetConnection()
NetStream()
in self-coded player.
The problem is that during progressive load video does not
play smooth and it's absolutely not possible to watch it unless
it's fully downloaded. It's very annoying.
Bitrate is quite small, around 500kbps (total size of each
video file is usually around 5-10 Mb).
What I though is that if I could limit download bitrate to,
say, 600 kbps, I would get rid of these problems and would still
have video downloading fast enough to be played on-line.
Is it possible or what are the options?

p/s/ buffering is 10 seconds I believe, but I doubt it has
something to do with the problem.

Thank you for your reply, but I don't really get the point:
1. I would like to limit user's download rate, but not
determine it.
Don't get why i need a preloader? In case I want to wait
unless video is fully downloaded I can easily do it just by moving
MOOV ATOM to the end of the file, but the point is to play it
progressively (means while it's downloading).
2. I use an onMetaData for other issues, that's clear that I
can get a duration from it.
3. is it the same as waiting video to be completely
downloaded and then playing it? I think it can be done much easier
with something like BitesLoaded and TotalBites without any timers
and speed checking.
But as I said, that's not a solution I'm looking for, I want
it to be progressively playing smoothly while it is downloading.
Maybe I'm missing your idea?

IPad video downloads don't play all of the video from iTunes

This is the second time this has happend to me with video downloads. I recently rented a movie on itunes (on my ipad) set to download over night and the next day while watching it with my wife about half way through the movie it stop playing.
I reset the ipad and nothing happends - still the same problem. Now again it is happening with a tv episode I downloaded. Plays about 1/3 of the show then stops playing. It seems as though the entire episode didnt download but itunes says it does because it no longer shows as downloading. Is there any way to redownload the video without having to pay for it again? I've looked online for answers to this question for a good few hours and have uncovered nothing! Any help is greatly appreciated.

Could it be that the rental expired?
What videos were they and were they SD or HD?
You can try testing on another Wi-Fi network, to rule out connection issues.
You may have to email the iTunes Store.

Video download speed

I'm new to the video ipod. The first generation ipod is still working, and I continue to use it for audiobook downloads. I need to know if the download of 1 episode of the 2nd season of Lost, should take over 2 hours? I have DSL via AT+T/Yahoo, and I previously thought that downloads would be a fairly brisk event. What is the normal download time. Should I plan to download video from itunes to my computer overnight, to allow for such lengthy download speeds? Thanks.

To Cosmo's Dad - Do you feel that we've had our question satisfactorily answered? I don't. I get the general impression that the ipod world doesn't complain about such mundane issues as download time. I almost hated to ask, feeling that I would expose my naivete in the world of expensive, new gadgets. Well, I thought there would be different download speeds depending on the quality of the video you were willing to sacrifice. I guess not. Why does you tube prevent music video downloads?

I have figured out that music companies do not want you tube users to download videos to their hard drives or jump drives. Well, I want to. All the other videos work fine. I am using Firefox 18.0 with video download helper, and every time I download a music video, it says zero bytes. Zero byte download files, zero byte music video file. So I found the workaround to this problem to be save vid dot com, where I can enter the url to the music video I want to download and save it to my disk. Why does Firefox not allow this. Why does you tube not allow this. Money must be involved. Like I said, there must be some stupid reason why they don't want us to download their music videos. What's their problem. I just want to watch the video when I am offline, and save vid has saved me from getting angry again.
All the other videos that do not have major sponsors download just fine, and it's sad that we have to find workarounds to stupid problems. Save vid allows you to save the you tube video without loading a spybot plugin that changes your home page and peppers you with ads, I'm glad they have it. I hope to save someone else the trouble.

Actually, it is keep vid dot come, not save vid that i used, but both are legit websites that allow you to download videos from anywhere without a lot of hassle or unsafe plugins. Sorry about any confusion.

Why can I not get a video downloader?? They dissappear and or don't show up after selecting them fromthe add on page??

I had a simple easy downloader on my fox page it left a green arrow on the bar for downloads, all I needed to do was click on it and pick the type i wanted (mp3 or flv etc) but youtube was giving me ahard time when I tryed to download more then one video, I would get all the same ones as the first one, so i tryed a different downloader it showed a video reel as it's symbol and it seemed to work but then I accedently clicked on something and it dissapeared. Now whenever i go to the add-ons to get one it says I's been done succsessfully but doesn't show up once I get back to my home page???Can you help fix this issue please!!

Firefox updated, Video download helper no longer works, no error msg. I have uninstalled both Firefox and VDH, reinstalled, VDH still does not work, Why

Video Download Helper does not work after most recent update. I have cleared cache and cookies, uninstalled both Firefox and the helper,that has not corrected.When Firefox does an update are the "vendors notified so they can see if their product needs changes in order to be compatible? This may sound like a stupid ?, but it makes sense tome. Telling me to download something else, in my eyes is not REALLY solving the problem.

Don't uninstall 36. Just download and install 35 over top and you don't lose any data. I already did and everything works just fine. But I did remove VDH first.

Why the flash player don't work after installing the video downloader add-on?

I've installed and uninstall the Firefox mobile app several times to try and fix this issue. Every time I add the video downloader add-on the flash player won't let me tap to play videos anymore. I've tried to completely enable the flash but still didn't work. I've used this add on for a few months and it worked fine up until the last Firefox update. Without the add-on the flash player works fine but after I've added the video downloader add-on I would have to uninstall and reinstall the mobile spot to get the flash to work again. I really love to use this add-on that's the advantage that Firefox mobile app has over other web browser. Please tell me how I can fix this issue. THANKS

About your problem , have you tried to clear your privacy/browsing data? And see if flash works?
And you can try to disable the add-on, if you don't want to use it . and enable it again if you want to download a video .

I note one can publish to shared net places directly from iMovie so one assumes these are copyright free for non-profit making and non-comercial use.
It is impossible to contact apple direct.No email address.We put our selves at risk without this knowledge and like applemac, facebook will not communicate direct.Will applemac please take responsibility for copyright/the above that they are all too willing to sell to us but not support us with that knowledge.

Thank you Klaus1.The large font, I copied and pasted from my mail box.I'm visually impaired...not to a huge degree but it helps to use the large font.I believe you are right about the copyright on the imac stuff but if facebook decide otherwise, you have to reply electronically to their challenge.If you can't provide a reference directly from the copyright owner then they remove the video.I believe this is a programmed response and no human is involved which now makes it impossible for me to get my video uploading restored.They detect added soundtrack automatically and then challenge.There are many others in the same boat and facebook will not communicate.They have various discussion sites on which I have left messages including Mark Zuckerbergs own facebook but I don't think anyone from facebook ever reads them.I intend to start a second facebook which I can use purely to get my videos uploaded as a lot of my friends enjoy them BUT don't want fall foul of their programming again.If only iMac would put something on the net to this effect.I think it is so unfair that with modern technology it is impossible to contact these large conglomerates personally and receive an email response.I tried emailing [email protected] but I got a failure notice.If you have any ideas on how to get verification from apple direct, I would be very grateful.Thank You.
