Video drivers can't set up onboard video correctly ***Resolved (see append)***

I'm building a new system and trying to use the onboard video (VIA/S3G Unichrome Pro IGP ).  At boot-up, I get the message: "There is a problem with your display settings.  The adapter type is incorrect, or the current settings do not work with your hardware" and it takes me to Display Properties where the resolution is 16 x 640 x 480.  Sometimes I can change it, sometimes I can't.  If it allows me to change it, it falters on the next boot-up and goes into "safe mode" where it doesn't allow me to change the settings.  On the next "normal" boot,  I get the same message and the adapter goes back to 16 x 640 x 480.  Display Properties also shows 2 monitors even though I only have the 1 onboard video adapter, no other video is in the system.    I've reinstalled the motherboard and VGA drivers that came with the mainboard.  I've also tried the drivers from MSI's and VIA's websites.  I've cleared NVRAM and used the defaults (both "optimal" and "performance" defaults) and several of my best guesses at CMOS configurations.   I've tried formatting the drive and reloading Windows before installing the drivers.      MSI's tech help said to load direct-x and their driver which I've already done.   Any ideas?

    i saw that the APPLE TV product can be used with VIMEO videos.  can i still access VIMEO videos to my TV with a reg PC or do i have to have an APPLE?

    Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
    You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
    Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
    There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

    I'm interested in creating web page ad banners that include some looping video.
    Is there a way to set the canvas size to 350x250 or some other odd size?
    If not, do you know if any other video editing software can allow this?
    Thanks,

    No. FCE works with fixed sizes.
    Try your question on the FCP forum next door, FCP can use other sizes.

  • What video quality can I set besides MJPG in jmf?

    I am using the AVTransmitter2 example for the base of my video send and i noticed they can set the quality of the video being sentout. It basically searches and sets the quality of the VideoFormat. I tried other formats but it seems only MJPG is supported... does anyone know if i can change quality of other formats like H263? thanks
    void setJPEGQuality( Player p, float val ) {
              Control cs[] = p.getControls();
              QualityControl qc = null;
    VideoFormat jpegFmt = new VideoFormat(VideoFormat.MJPG);
    // the JPEG encoder.
    for (int i = 0; i < cs.length; i++) {
    if (cs[i] instanceof QualityControl && cs[i] instanceof Owned) {
    Object owner = ((Owned) cs).getOwner();
    if (owner instanceof Codec) {
    Format fmts[] = ((Codec) owner).getSupportedOutputFormats( null );
    for (int j = 0; j < fmts.length; j++) {
         if (fmts[j].matches(jpegFmt)) {
         qc = (QualityControl) cs[i];
                                       qc.setQuality(val);
                                       System.err.println("- Setting quality to " + val + " on " + qc);
                                       break;

    There isn't really a complete, easy manner to do this. For instance, with your laptop set to use its own hard drive for the library anything you download there will have to be manually copied to the server when you get home. If the laptop is set to use server for library then iTUnes will be able to download new files when away but any other files will not be available.
    This is on top of the complication of multiple computers accessing same file store for iTunes. Except with deleted files the individual machines do not know about changes (added files) done by the other ones.

  • Can you set recording time video in Ipad mini?

    When recording videos in my Ipad, they always stop after 2:30min. I wonder how to change the video recording time?

    From another user....
    Two paths -
    One - use an alternative recording app (eg FILMiC Pro) that allows you to record at a lower frame rate and/or smaller image size. (Don't know if it supports iPad 2 on iOS4)
    Two - get an iPad with a larger storage capacity. If you need more space than what a 64GB model gives you, combine it with option 1. (FILMiC Pro is supported on an iPad3 running iOS 6)

  • Video Encoder can't read MPEG-2 video track

    I've recorded some MPEG-2 videos from a new Sony camcorder,
    and I can't turn them into FLV files using Flash CS3 Video Encoder.
    Each time I open the settings window, it says "This file has no
    readable video track."
    However, the mpeg's play fine on ALL my media players (Real,
    Windows Media Player, etc.).
    I've found a workaround -- I have to use some freeware to
    convert the MPEG-2 files into MPEG-4 files, and then the encoder
    can read them. But I'm still mystified as to why the Adobe encoder
    won't read the MPEG-2's.
    Any ideas?
    Peter

    I wrote an article on MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 usage in Flash Video
    encoders on Community MX. It's a free article, and it might help
    you get your MPEG-2 encoded without any transcoding to MPEG-4. If
    you have any questions after reading the article, let me know:

  • What kind of Flash Player can i download for Firefox.? What kind of video player can I use to stream videos.

    Flash player for streaming? Best video player.

    Hello,
    Adobe stopped supporting flash for android since ICS. You may still be able to download the latest (old) flash player "at your own risk" from Adobe archived flash player versions:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/archived-flash-player-versions.html
    Please read the disclaimer at the end as it is not advised to install unsupported flash versions.
    As for video streaming, there are lot of apps for that and it's just a matter of your preference.

  • Onboard video trouble

    i'm really really confused about my old ms 6378 ver 3 m/board. i'm planning to buy a pci video card but i heard the onboard video can't be turned off. i also heard that msi boards are designed to automatically turn off the onboard video.. but is it really possible to use it on my board?? if it's possible, what's the limit of video ram it can support and how do i change those bios settings?? plzz help...
    my pc specs:
    ms-6378 v3
    duron 1.1gHz
    128 ram
    350w psu
    win2k pro

    Some info from my previous post:
    The problem you are experiencing could trace back to a video card design defect with version three of the board in combination with Windows XP and all of the drivers to date. The only solution is to send back the board to MSI and request a different model. The model MS-6738-010 has an AGP slot with similar specs. I just sent back the same board experiencing the same problems. It is being widely reported on the web also. Microsoft support has already investigated numerous crash reports from many people with the same problem. It all comes down to a video card problem in combination with the drivers for the board.
    MSI currently has no fix for the problem on this board. Your only choice is to send it back and request another board.

    SYMPTOMS
    You may receive one of the following Stop error messages:
    STOP 0x000000EA THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER
    STOP: 0x100000EA THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER_M
    CAUSE
    This issue may occur if the display driver is caught in an infinite loop while it waits for the video hardware to become idle. This issue typically indicates a problem with the video hardware or that the display driver cannot program the hardware correctly.
    RESOLUTION
    To resolve this issue, obtain and install the most current driver for your video adapter, or replace your video card.
    WORKAROUND
    To work around this issue, follow these steps:
    1.   Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Display.
    2.   On the Settings tab, click Advanced, and then click the Troubleshoot tab.
    3.   Move the Hardware Acceleration slider to None, and then clear the Enable Write Combining check box.
    4.   Click OK, and then click OK.
    Note This procedure prevents the display driver from programming the hardware incorrectly, but you may lose some display functionality and performance. Although you can increase the hardware acceleration settings higher than None to regain functionality and performance, these settings increase the chance that the issue will occur again. For maximum stability, leave hardware acceleration off.
    MORE INFORMATION

  • AGP4X onboard video

    Maybe a newby question.
    When I boot up, I can see the logo screen that says "8x". In BIOS, I selected 8x for AGP. So, why the f*** nvidia tools tell me I have a 4x video card?
    I'm using onboard video and audio.

    C'mon XP supports 8x, I'm willing to bet the 2X is simply some bit of software that is out dated, and can only recognize 2x.  It is probably making an old call to a deprecated library.  With all of the reviews out there on video cards, don't you think one of them would have said something, or screamed something, about the lack of 'true' 8X AGP support by XP?

  • Onboard Video for Dedicated PhysX

    I didnt know where to post this. Since it was VGA related it seems to make sense to post it here.
    I have two N580GTX in SLI, can I enable the onboard video to be dedicated to PhysX ?
    Mobo is MSI NF980-G65 (MS-7612)

    Nope cant be done, as soon as you plug in a dedicated PCIe VGA, onboard switches off automatically.
    Furthermore its like Svet said, it would bottleneck the rest enormous.
    For PhysX with those cards, a 550/560Ti is recommended, any lower would hold up the 580's.

  • Why can't I open facebook videos on my ipad and iphone?

    Why can't I open facebook videos on my ipad and iphone any more? I used to be able to open most but now I can't open any.  Now it just comes up with a message 'unable to play video.Check your internet connection and try again' There is nothing wrong with my internet connection. I am on wifi and full signal strength. This is happening on both ipad and iphone. It's not the problem where sometimes a video wants Adobe to open it. This message comes up as soon as you try to click on the video play button in the video. Can anyone tell me how to resolve this please?

    Thanks for this Griff but it's not the app that isn't responding.  I am in the facebook app (on both iPhone and iPad) and the app is working fine but if people post a video I can't look at the video on the iPhone or iPad.  i always used to be able to but now it keeps coming up with the message I mentioned above.  So I can no longer watch videos from facebook on either my iPad or iPhone.  Here is a screen shot of my phone of what is happening.  As you can see I have full wifi so there is nothing wrong with my internet connection. This is really annoying as I used to be able to watch videos on both phone and ipad out of facebook.  now I can't.  Hope you can help.  regards and thanks Vicki

  • How can I set #HOST# variable referenced in the Chart template?

    #HOST# and #HOST_PROTOCOL# are being set incorrectly by APEX from CGI variables when I create a chart. I am using APEX 4.1 and Oracle 11g. The get the continual "Loading data..." and then after it times out I get "Error loading file".
    Before we changed to a secure http environment, our charts worked. After we changed to the new web layer, the charts do not work. The #HOST# substitution was set to http://correctservername/ and #HOST_PROTOCOL# was set to http. We set PlsqlCGIEnvironmentList REQUEST_PROTOCOL=https in the dads configuration file and now the #HOST# displays https but it also includes the default port number which we do not want (https://correctservername:port/) The charts work without the port. REQUEST_PROTOCOL is not in the cgi list and setting this variable set #HOST_PROTOCOL#. What variable can we set to make #HOST# correct. It seems like #HOST# is being set by #REQUEST_PROTOCOL#'://'||HTTP_HOST||':'||SERVER_PORT||SCRIPT_NAME||'/'. SERVER_NAME could also be used in of HTTP_HOST. I don't know how APEX is setting #HOST#. Does it come from a host alias somewhere in the environment?
    I don't want to add a new cgi variable called HOST because HOST sounds so generic and it might interfere with something else running in our environment. Or, I don't want to change the plsql cgi environment variable (such as HTTP_HOST) because many developers may use owa_util.get_cgi_env('HTTP_HOST') to get the current server. If the SERVER_PORT is part of the #HOST# then what could I change it to if it needs to be null. If you leave it blank, then the default SERVER_PORT comes from the CGI variables.
    I would rather not create a global variable (hard-coding) and create a new chart template using the global variable or create a before header application process to re-direct url without a port.
    Edited by: Donna C-Houston on Oct 10, 2012 1:06 PM

    Hi Donna,
    changing the CGI environment variables HTTP_HOST, REQUEST_PROTOCOL and SERVER_PORT is the correct way how to resolve this, because it appears that your hiding the web server where you have installed mod_plsql or EPG by a different outside facing web server (also called reverse proxy). That's why APEX gets the host name, protocol and port of the internal web server, but should actually get the values of your reverse proxy web server. Can can fix that by changing the following CGI environment variables.
    HTTP_HOST should just contain the domain name (no protocol or port). For example: www.oracle.com
    REQUEST_PROTOCOL should contain http or https
    SERVER_PORT should be the port for https
    I don't want to add a new cgi variable called HOST because HOST sounds so generic and it might interfere with something else running in our environment. Or, I don't want to change the plsql cgi environment variable (such as HTTP_HOST) because many developers may use owa_util.get_cgi_env('HTTP_HOST') to get the current server. If the SERVER_PORT is part of the #HOST# then what could I change it to if it needs to be null. If you leave it blank, then the default SERVER_PORT comes from the CGI variables.The value of HTTP_HOST is wrong anyway and points to your internal web server, but I assume your developers actually want to get the host name of your external web server if they use it to generate absolute URLs. That's why I wouldn't bother and set it to the correct host name.
