Video edges being cropped unintentionally

When adding an imovie event to a new project, the video frame size is being changed. I don't think it's the aspect ratio. All the edges are being cut off in the project view even though the event view is correct... not good for a school choir video! I don't want to exclude any of the students.

You probably are using image stabilization, which works by zooming in. You can turn it off by selecting a clip, opening the clip inspector, and unchecking stabilization. You could also move the stabilization slider to a lower level of zoom and still get some benefit from the stabilization.

  • HDV video being cropped in timeline

I captured video in HDV, cut it into clips and when I drag them into the timeline they appear to be cropped on playback.  It looks as if the 1440x1080 HDV frames are being cropped into 720x480 frames when they go into the timeline rather than being converted down to the smaller size.  How do I keep the full frames in the edited movie. I've searched around for problems in settings but haven't been able to find out much.  I'm a fairly experienced PC user but pretty much of a newby to Premiere.  Any help would be much appreciated.

    Welcome to the forums.
It sounds like you have created a standard-definition sequence.
Create a new sequence and choose a high-definition preset. Now when you put your clips on the timeline they will be correct.
One other possibility is that you have your Program Monitor magnification set to something other than "Fit". Have a look at the drop-down list just below the Program Monitor.

  • 4:3 being cropped in Projects

    Hello,
I have a full frame ( 4:3 ) video on my hard drive, when I import it into iMovie it is being stretched into 16:9, but when I add it to a project iMovie '09 it is being cropped.
How do I get it into its correct aspect ratio?
    Cheers

I've struggled in general with aspect ratios, and I'm no expert - but seeing no other proposals here I'll venture out...
First - I'll presume the iMovie Project is set as 4x3 (sorry - have to ask).
I've an indirect thing you might try. I've found that various tools I use output video files with aspect ratios that iMovie of FCE treat as 16x9, even though the input and intent is 4x3. Recently, I was using JES Deinterlacer to deinterlace content, and found that its output was reliably treated as 4x3 by iMovie '09. In that case, I was using the "Export to Quicktime" setting, and choosing size as "NTSC 720x480 4:3.
Perhaps this tool properly "sets" the aspect ratio with the file and would meet your needs. JES does allow you to set the Project tab to "Bare" - meaning no processing, so perhaps there is a very low-intrusion way to use to tool to pass through your video and hopefully end up with video that is treated as 4x3.

  • In windows live photo gallery it says an error is preventing the photo or video from being displayed

in windows live photo gallery it keeps saying an error is preventing the photo or video from being displayed

    Hi Frank.
    Thanks for the response.
Agreed, the pertinent question is why can't my colleague edit the JPG exported by Aperture. It's probably also worth pointing out, the same problem occurs with JPGs exported from iPhoto.
The Windows software usually plays nicely with JPGs by all acounts, just not the ones I send - which I do via eMail or my public space on Mobile Me incidently.
So, another key question is: all settings being equal (color profile, quality, etc.) are the JPGs as produced by iPhoto and Aperture indistinguishable from those produced by other apps on other platforms - i.e. does the use of JPG enforce a common standard?
If that is the case, I suspect ours might be a permissions issue.
According to the Microsoft support page on editing in Windows Live Photo Gallery, the inability to edit a picture is commonly caused by unsupported file type, or read-only attribute set on the file.
Unfortunately, he and I are not in the same place, and he's not particularly au-fait with this type of problem solving. Hence, before involving him, I'd like to know:
    1. it's possible (i.e. someone else does it), and,
    2. what's involved (at my end and/or his).
    Thanks again,
    PB

  • Video is Randomly Cropped

    Hi there,
So I have a screen capture recorded in the Apple Intermediary Codec . . . as edit the video and FCX renderes the video in the background - anywhere the orange bar has dissapeard my video is randomly cropped. This shows both in the preview and export.
I have been only been able to get the unwanted cropping to go away by deleting the project render files.
Any ideas for how to avoid/fix this? Other then turning off the automatic background rendering?
    -Alex

Here is the information from the movie inspector:
    Format:
    Apple Intermediate Codec, 1440 x 900, Millions
    AAC, Stereo (L R), 44.100 kHz
    FPS:
    16.91
    Data Size:
    1.63 GB
    Data Rate:
    27.64 Mbit/s
    As for the project settings:
    1080p HD
    1440x1080 | 23.98p
    Surround | 48kHz
Now . . . I know that the resolutions don't match up, however I wasn't seeing how to set up a project with anything but the premade templates - or in other words I don't know how to set up a project with 1440 x 900 as the resolution.
I hope this illuminates my problem a bit.
    Thanks!!!

  • Why do Youtube videos show being completely loaded, but aren't actually loaded?

It's kinda hard to explain. Ever since downloading Firefox 4, I've been getting this odd error in Youtube, and Youtube only. When viewing a video, the time bar or whatever you want to call it shows it's fully loaded, even when just starting to view. Also, when it ends the recommended videos, replay button, Like button, etc, show up a good 3-5 seconds before the video actually ends. This is not an error with Youtube itself. Since I tested it in other browsers. Namely Google Chrome, Opera and even Internet Explorer and didn't experience this problem. What should I do?

It's very difficult to say without knowing more about your system. There are a number of possibilities. First, your 13" lacks a discrete GPU, so the CPU is doing the work that a GPU would have done as far as decoding video streams, etc. Each video stream will consume considerable resources from the machine, and if you have multiple things running with video streams being decoded (for example, a browser with video Flash or cumbersome animation and iMovie running at the same time), then that may be a factor.
Additionally, it could be that you are memory constrained. You didn't post a picture of the process list from activity monitor or the memory usage stats, but you probably want to look and see what the memory and CPU usage is and who's consuming what. Some applications are pretty inefficient. For example, if you have iPhoto open and have thousands of images, the indexed metadata and thumbnails are all stored in RAM. iMovie pulls in clip thumbnail sets - (and worse, it has to do on-the-fly transcoding video assets from some cameras that don't encode the video using the parameters it expects to make indexing frames easier). Again, this would show up as periodic spikes in CPU activity for the app.
You seem to have plenty of disk space, that's not likely to be a problem.
Check if Time Machine is running. Time Machine introduces a performance impact, but it's exacerbated by the presence of frequently changed large files (e.g., you don't want Time Machine backing up your video projects while you are working on them).
Lastly, you may consider checking the console for error messages. This might reveal background processes that might be bogging down the system, or things like filesystem/disk errors. If there are errors in the filesystem, when you access certain portions of the disk, the OS and applications can slow down or lock-up as a result.

  • Whenever I try to watch any sort of video it tells me that the video is being played on a TV, It names the TV but I don't own or know abou the tv

Whenever I try to watch any videos whether on YouTube or ones purchased from the iTunes stir my phone tells me that  my video is being played on "the TV" I don't know what TV this is being played on or where it is?

Try this and see if it solves your problem.
    1) Swipe up to display and access the control center.
    2) On the right of the AirDrop cell you should be able to see another cell with the name of the TV the phone claims to be connected to.
    3) Tap on that cell and you should get a list that allows you to choose where videos should be sent to. Select the iPhone. The name of the cell should now become "AirPlay".
    Does this solve your problem?

  • Video is being resized top and bottom in iDVD

When I import video at 720 X 480 size my video is being squeezed and producing an overlay of black bars on top! Like what is described in slide functions! I didn't have this problem before and the only solution so far is to rerender at 680 x 480. So it has something to do with screen ratio, but how do I fix this. I've tried reloading the software but same thing happens. It used to not do this so something happened. Any thoughts or similar experiences?

Yeah I normally am working in Spruce Technologies but sometimes I need to deal with mac based material quickly and so I have iDVD to work with. It seems to be the pixel ratio difference between video and computer IE: 720X540 vs 720 X 486 or 10%. It's odd and does seem like a flag has been somehow set to conform picture. And where would such a flag reside? So far if I render the video at 680 X 486 it is ok (taking a cue from the slide show parameters which is what this is imitating). But this seems an odd way to make something work which should by the native environment of DVD be 720 X 480. Strange

  • Videos get halfly cropped

i have different video source shooted by 5D2, FX700,NEX6,650D,timelapsed wmv...etc. But everything was OK when eralier editing. When I'd done my editing for a copy to client. I just added some luma effect to the clips, not the ones got problem, some of my videos get halfly cropped. It's rediculous. The original files in windows browser are OK. But in the timeline the wmv files all get cropped. There are no any effect on them and I can't get the black part out. Only one thing wierd is the anchor point are set in 1926*864,which is not same as others. Of course I did not set it. They are originally pictures and were renderd as wmv video files with original size, which are 2784 x 1856  by 5D2 and  2592 x 1728 by 650D. My sequence is 1920*1080. But everyting was OK before. How could I figure out before torrow B-copy?~

This has nothing to with Safari it self.

  • 1280x720 video being cropped down to 1248x702 for no reason

I've been using Compressor to batch export a large number of long lecture videos. My settings are:
    Format: QT
    Width: 1280
    Height: 720
    Pixel aspect ratio: Square
    Crop: None
    Padding: None
    Frame rate: 29.97
    Frame Controls: Automatically selected: Off
    Codec Type: H.264
    Multi-pass: On, frame reorder: On
    Pixel depth: 24
    Spatial quality: 75
    Min. Spatial quality: 25
    Key frame interval: 90
    Temporal quality: 50
    Min. temporal quality: 25
    Fast Start: on
The first 15 times or so, it worked wonderfully, but the past 3 or 4 times I've tried it, the right and bottom sides of the video are cropped down to 1248x702. I tried trashing all the compressor preference files per
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1888
Reinstalling Compressor requires getting my office's IT department involved, which I'm not going to do. When I export a single video straight out of Final Cut Pro with the same settings, it works fine. I'm running all the latest versions of everything.
Does anyone have any idea what is going on? Final Cut can't handle the large batch exports I need to do, so I need to get Compressor working again.

    It's probably this:

  • Video in 16:9 Motion menu preview being cropped

I can't find any discussion on this but am maybe asking the wrong question.
How do I get the 16:9 preview buttons on a 16:9 motion menu to play without cropping the top and bottom of the source clip? I don't understand why a 16:9 clip doesn't fill a 16:9 preview window- and can't find any setting which fixes this.
    4:3 preview windows play fine.
    Hope someone can help.
    Thanks, Steve

I'm not sure that you're describing what's happening well. Can you describe what you're doing in a little more detail? Or could it be you're actually doing letterboxing, not 16:9?
