Video Editing iPhone 4

Are there any free windows 7 video/movie editing programs that are compatible with .mov files in HD from the iPhone 4?

Turns out that after shooting video in iPhone4, when I sync the phone with my computer, the iPhone4 video clips automatically get converted to .mov files and saved in the iPhoto library.
The iPhone4 clip is being imported with the following info:
-Dimensions: 1280x720
-Codecs: H.264, AAC
So I'm confused about why I would use MPEG StreamClip since these files are being 'converted' to .mov automatically. Could you clarify this for me?
*Dealing With Mixed Resolution Clips in the Timeline*
Also ... to complicate things a bit ... I have mixed resolution clips I need to include in the timeline:
- iPhone4 (1280x720/H.264)
- iSight (640x480/H.264)
- Digital Juice VideoTraxx (720x486/Animation).
How is this type of resolution 'hodgepodge' typically handled? Is there a way to use MPEG StreamClip to get them mixed together properly ... and should I expect to have different variations of black bars due to the mixed resolutions?
Thanks for helping me figure this out.

  • IPhone 4 Video Editing In Final Cut Pro

So i just got an OWLE Bubo for my iPhone 4 and have been taking a lot of video lately that I wanted to start editing.
I've figured out that I needed to transcode the H.264 video the iPhone 4 produces to something edit-friendly like ProRes 442. I've done this in Compressor and its all gone fine and well, but it still makes me render everything that I put in the timeline...So something is off. It is a RED line so I believe this is audio related?
Note: I know the iPhone records audio at 44.1KHz and it needs to be at 48KHz to work in final cut...and my settings for the ProRes442 is converting it to 48KHz but it still doesn't seem to be working...
There is surprisingly little useful information on this topic online.

Yeah i know...Ive been pulling my hair out to try to find the difference between the sequence and the transcoded clips all week but there just wasnt any difference.
Somehow after a week of google searches and forum scouring i didnt happen to see this post...which absolutely solved my problem!!!

  • Photoshop CS6 iPhone video editing

Photoshop CS6 has video editing but can not render any video from iPhone 5

    The format is .mov.
When you render it it becomes .mp4.
I do this all day that is the compression understood by many players. I did not say that it does not support the format as it will play fine. I said "it will not render" No corverter needed.
The video from the phone will not render unless you use the Apple TV, iPhone, iPad 4 and newer -720p 29.97 setting instead of the HD1080p that I use normally.
I hope you know how to help me. Please do not give me general answers be specific or tell me "I do not know"
You can always try it at home!
    Thanks for your time

  • Video from iPhone to iMovie on Mac and quality issues

Task:  Wanting to take video from my iPhone 5 into iMovie HD Version 6.0.3 to do some editing, trimming, transitions, etc.  I have done this on many occasions but have NEVER been able to share/export the finished product with any kind of quality result.  I want to upload to youtube and it never looks very good.  Looks "ok" if just viewed as is, but if you click on full-screen it does not look good.
I have never liked any of the other newer versions of iMovie - old dog new tricks problem.  I have versions 9.0,9 and 10.0.3 and maybe I need to use one of those to solve the problem.  If so would someone please tell me should I export as .mov or .mp4 and what exact settings to use.
If I can get good quality using iMovie 6.0.3 then would someone please tell me should I export as .mov or .mp4 and what exact settings to use.
It seems like this should be such a simple process but for the life of me I can't figure out how to make it so.  I see many other videos that I know have been taken on people's phones and edited and they look great - even when shown in full screen.
    All help is appreciated!

  • Transfering videos from Iphone 4 to laptop, the video is rotateed 90 degrees

After transferring videos from Iphone to laptop, Why would the video be rotated 90 degrees?

IIRC, the iPhone is configured that "normal orientation" for video recording is horizontal with the home button on the right.  If you are holding it in a different orientation, then that would be encoded in the EXIF data on the recirded video file.  Now if that file is edited and that EXIF data is removed or altered, then you could see what you are seeing.  It is also possible that the player yo uare playing the videos back in does not properly support the EXIF data embedded in the videos, which would have the same results.  When I record video on my iPhone 5, the playback on my Mac works properly.

    1. Open the camera app.
    2. Move the slider from in the bottom right from photo to video.
    3. Begin recording your video.
    4. While your video is recording, tap the camera icon in the upper right to take a photo.
    5. You'll see the shutter close on your screen each time you snap a photo.
    6. Your photos will be saved to your camera roll.

  • Best midrange video editing laptop

I am looking to purchase a video editing laptop for my son.  He has a gopro and iPhone and enjoys making and editing videos.  Honestly I am clueless about the whole thing and would like some guidance and opinions before making the purchase.  I would like to stay under $2000.00 preferably under $1500.00.  I also would like for the transfer from the gopro to the laptop to be an easy process.
    I appreciate any feedback!
Thanks in advance for your help!

I would think he needs a quad core for video editing. And starting at $2500.

Add a larger monitor too. Then figure it needs some good solid storage for video files, backup, etc.
Will likely see this moved to the MacBook Pro forum section, not the workstation Mac Pro where it is now.

  • Error when importing photos/videos from iphone 4 into Picassa.....

When attempting to import photos and videos from iphone 4 into Picassa (v3.8) I get the following error message:
"An error has occurred while attempting to import. Either the source is unavailable or the destination is full or read only. (1)"
Any thoughts? I know this is an iphone specific issue as I was successfully able to import from another camera.
P.S Quicktime up to date and quicktime movies checked in Picassa.

I have the same issue. It started only after the most recent iPhone update though, leading me to think it's the phone, not iPhoto.
The pictures that do import are streaked/blurry with terrrible colour. I can still send them via email but they're smaller files.
Does anyone know another way to get my full-res pictures off my iPhone?
[edit] I found out that I could use Apple's Image Capture software, which worked like a charm but the pictures themselves are a mess. I'll have to try resetting.

  • Merge 2 videos on iphone

Hi. I'm working at a project at which at some point I have to merge 2 or more videos and save them in a single file.
I would appreciate any ideas on how to do this (the formats are .mov, made with the camera) directly from the iphone. Would also like some references to libraries that might make the job easier.
What I've tried so far was converting them to .mpg (or some editable format), merging them and then converting the merged video back to a format supported by iphone. I've managed doing this using ffmpeg, but I'm having some problems at converting back, because the video is unwatchable (colored big pixels). I've tried this with more options (most found on web, which said that the command should work for making videos for iphone/ipod), but none of them worked for me.
(I've tried stuff like converting to mp4 and then back to mov and the result is the same, though the mp4 is watchable, so I'm sure that the conversion back to mov is the problem (or from mpg to mp4/mov)).
    Thanks in advance,
    Alex.

managed to do the merging using ffmpeg. I made a combination from:
    http://www.dranger.com/ffmpeg/tutorial01.html
    http://trac.assembla.com/legend/browser/segmenter/segmenter.c
    and ffmpeg.c
I also had to play a little with AVPacket.pts and dts (from ffmpeg) so frames won't get skipped and video/audio remain synced. (I can't post the code)

  • Video Editing on PC

Well I had a HD video recorder that recorded in MPEG4 and with the new iPhone 4 it's recording also in HD but in .mov form. Trouble windows movie maker seems to have a huge problem editing the videos and makes it very difficult to use. iMovie would be nice but it's only for macs. I am willing to buy a good video editing software like Sony Vegas but I was wondering if Sony Vegas or another good video editing software works with MPEG4 and .mov forms that keep the quality of HD that was recorded or close to.

Just done a few quick tests on Vegas Movie Studio with some iPhone 4 footage and it seems to work great. You can always download a trial version if you're not sure.

  • Cannot import video edited on imovie app

Please help, im a pc user trying to import a video I have edited using imovie, i have exported it to my camera roll but it will not import when I use picasa or any other way you can import using a mass storage device on a pc, Ive tried everything, dragging and dropping from my computer. Any ideas??? by the way this is happening with two different iphones I own. cannot import any video edited with imovie

I believe the only way you can share a movie edited with iMovie on your phone is:
    * Email
    * MMS (multimedia message)
    * YouTube
    * MobileMe Gallery
If on a Mac, you can export your finished movies to the Camera Roll and then bring them into iMovie on your Mac.

  • Recording Video with iPhone 4S and Final Cut Express

    Hello,
I make drum covers using Pro Tools for audio recording, and FCE for video editing.  I have 2 sony handy cams for different angles/views, and recently purchased an iPhone 4S.  I typically import the videos into FCE and cut out the camera's audio and import Pro Tools audio. I figured I could use another angle with the iPhone.  When I imported all 3 clips (sony, sony, iphone) into FCE, the iphone clip plays in FCE, but has an orange line in the timeline section, and plays really choppy.  I tried rendering the video for real-time editing, and that didn't seem to work.  The biggest issue, is that the video from the iPhone will not sync correctly with the music, but my other cameras do just fine.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    -Justin

In MPEG Streamclip, you must make the proper audio settings as well as video settings.  Normally, FCE Sequences require uncompressed AIFF (PCM) audio at 48khz, 16 bit.  Which audio settings did you use?
This tutorial on using MPEG Streamclip may help: http://www.secondchairvideo.com/?p=739  Although it is written for converting DVD footage, the basics are the same.

  • Why is Aperture video editing limited to landscape oriented videos only?

I have iPhone videos that I've imported into Aperture 3.  Only the landscape oriented videos feature the pop-up box that allows you to scroll back and forth within a video, trim the video, edit it, etc.  Portrait oriented videos only offer play and pause.
Is this true for others?  It seems a bit ridiculous.  I've done some searching and can't find any references to this elsewhere.

I never noticed, but for videos in "Portrait" mode I also do not see any "Edt" and Trim" options, only the "play" button:
