Video Editing/Sampling in AIR?

Does anyone know if it's possible to play a video in AIR and sample various sections into smaller videos?
For example, I have a video 20 seconds in length, but I only need from 0:08 to 0:18. So the moment I get to the start I want, I press a button to begin capturing, then click the button again 10 seconds later and the finished result is a video 10 seconds long, capturing just what I need.
Is this possible? Thanks in advance.

Doesn't anyone know? Not even Adobe?
I just want to be able to sample video using AIR. Is this not possible?

  • Mac Book Air vs HD video editing

Does anyone know if the MBA can do HD video editing with okay speed? I will choose the 1.86 processor, but is it not depended on the graphic card? What is your experience with this?
    Karsten

Video cut, chop, audio, and text editing work fine on the Air. (get the 8gig of RAM, it cant be added later)
Since "editing video" can mean "walking" (cut and chop) ....  and also mean "running a marathon" (layers, special effects, superimposing etc etc); then the distinction had to be made.
The Air is no "marathon runner" in the video editing dept.
For simplex  chop and dub and text yes, I get by just fine.

  • MacBook Pro vs MacBook Air for video editing?

I am debating between a 13 inch MacBook Pro and a 13 inch MacBook Air. The MacBook Air seems to have a nicer battery life and price tag. But I'm not sure if it will be powerful enough for video editing. Which one would be better for my needs?

To be fair, they'll probably be about on par as both have integrated graphics chips, although the Pro has faster processors depending on spec.
Having said that, neither are particularly suitable. Ideally you should be looking at a 15" Pro with a dedicated graphics processor, and even faster CPU.
I find integrate graphics fine for graphics program's, but would want more power for video personally.

  • How can I see what I'm actually video recording on iPad Air so that I don't include extra stuff at the borders of the image? It seems to automatically "zoom in" on the screen, but when I export the video, the picture isn't framed well.

When I try to record a video on the Ipad Air, the screen automatically "zooms in" closer than when I'm taking a photo. So I frame the interview and record it. But when I export it to post it or edit it, I discover that only the screen was zoomed in, the camera wasn't, so I have all this extra stuff around the edges of my frame.
I don't need to zoom in, but I do need to be able to see what I'm shooting--otherwise, as I'm videotaping, I'm guessing at my picture's framing. But every time I switch from photo to video mode, the screen "zooms in." How can I see what I'm actually recording?
I've been searching for an answer for this for a while, but I can't find any responses to it! Thanks.

  • What are the capabilities of video editing in Photoshop?

I only have Photoshop CS5 and would like to edit video footage I have of my college fashion show, my portion of which is about 3-4 minutes long.  One video I have is taken by a  hand held camera and I would like to somehow blur or crop out the distracting audience, which I know will be difficult because the camera is a little unsteady. My other footage is from the official DVD and is taken straight on from a steady camera. I want to splice the two videos together so you can see all angles of my designs. I think I will need to overlay a new soundtrack (just a song in my library) as well.  How much of this is possible in Photoshop, and for an advanced Photoshop user but a complete novice at anything video related, how difficult will this be to acheive? How time intensive? Before I delve into researching tutorials and online resourses, I really would like to know if it's even a feasable project. Many thanks!

I do not do video editing but I just took a look at cs6 video timeline. It looks like it is very easy to splice video clips together and add an additional audio track that would span the entire spliced video.  That left me with the question could you blur or delete your audience.  It also looks like that would also be easy.  I dropped the sample window windows media video clip onto CS6.  In the layers palette I converted the video clip to a smart object and made a selection around the outside to represent your audience, added a smart filter a gaussian blur and rendered an mp4. http://www.mouseprints.net/old/dpr/Wildlife.mp4

  • Which of these macs would you choose for video editing?

The main difference is the MBP has an Serial ATA drive, and the Air has a Flash drive.  Also the MPB has 2.9Ghz, and the Air has only 2.0Ghz.  Which one would you pick for editing with Final Cut Pro X? (Also curious which one you would pick even if video editing wasn't a concern for you, thanks!)

Thanks for the answer.  Didn't realize the 13" MBPs differed from the 15" MBPs.  I thought the screen was the only major difference.
Apple fools a lot of people with that. The 13" is really a MacBook and not a "Pro" machine.
The best machine for video editing depends upon what your going to do, full on production or casual home stuff.
A 15" MacBook Pro and a iMac for the casual lightweight stuff and iMove can do the job.
The new MacPro coming out for the heavy duty stuff.
The industry seems to be moving away from Final Cut Pro X as it's been consumerized or something, lacking needed features and moving towards Avid on powerful Mac's or Windows 7 towers.

  • I am 12 and want a 13 inch Macbook for video editing and stuff I cannot do on my iPad.

I need a Macbook for video editing and stuff I cannot do on my iPad (flash web browsing, iMovie or Final Cut Pro for YouTube, small games, photoshop, Reaktor 5, etc). I was thinking of buying the MacBook Air 13" refurbished intel core i5 for $999. I can pay up to $1,300 so I was thinking of getting the 13" MacBook Pro with retina display refurbished intel core i5 for $1,260. But then I couldn't buy many accessories or AppleCare. I do not really want to buy the non-retina MacBook Pro because it is not as portable and I am only 12 but I don't know much about how heavy it is because there is no apple store where I live but this is why I came here. So which MacBook should I buy? (I am probably going to wait until the new MacBooks in June 2013)

    Hilary:
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Congratulations on your upcoming graduation and the really wonderful gift you anticipate from your parents. Unfortunately, I am unable to give you information about upcoming Apple products or promotions, as I honestly don't know.
All my purchased music, and games, and videos, etc are on the computer I am currently using. Is there a way to transfer all of it to my new MacBook I will be receiving?
If the computer you are currently using is a Mac, yes, it can be transferred. One of the difficulties with the new MacBook is that it does not have any firewire ports, which will make networking a bit of a pain, but it can be done. Post back after you have your new computer with specs and we will give you directions on how to do it.
And are they going to make a new Macbook? So should I wait?
While I do not have any specific information about upcoming products, it is fairly certain that Apple will be coming out with new products. Of course this is a continuing process so you can be waiting for a long time. I would, personally, go ahead and get one now, and that should certainly see you through college. By then who know what wonderful products will be available!
Please do post back with further questions or comments, if you have any.

  • New 21.5 iMac for video editing - which graphics

I am thinking of upgrading a 3 year old Intel iMac to one of the new ones. The only beefy think I want to do on it is video editing with iMovie. My main question is whether I would benefit significantly from specifying the ATI graphics rather than Nvidia for this task. I suspect that it will be more than good enough with the cheaper graphics, but any thoughts ?

So is first class air travel and 5* hotels However, there is a law of diminishing returns on the cash outlay. If I admit it my 3 year old Mac is up to the job, but I like shiny new Macs. Just wanted a feel for whether I would actually notice a significant performance improvement between those machines when running iMovie.

  • Videos/Audios for Adobe AIR App

    Hi there,
I'm new to Adobe AIR and I would like to find out if I'm building an app that sells videos/musics . Do I need to store all the video/music samples in the user's computer (part of the app) in order to be viewed offline?
    Thanks in advance!
    cheers.

You need to store the music and videos somewhere on the user's computer, but not in the application install directory. (The documents directory is possibly a good place for them.)

Motherboard has to be in MSI as I had bad experiences with Asus and Intel original.I am confused about the chipset though..Has to be Z series right??
    HDD - 2TB x 1 @ 7200rpm Seagate
1TB x 1 @ 7200rpm Seagate     I already have the HDDs from the last machine.

The new Haswell E CPU is out now. THAT is what you want for a new editing machine. ESPECIALLY for heading into the future, which will involve 4K and other, maybe more DEMANDING codecs. SEE Eric Bowen's posting here on this forum regarding the test results for video editing using the Haswell E...vs. the older CPUs.
The Haswell E now has a new chipset,( X99), that brings MANY new features, AND, the Haswell E NOW features "quad  channel" memory...to handle large amounts of data FASTER. The new motherboards have TEN SATA III ports, for a variety of HIGH SPEED storage options !! The OLDER motherboards are LIMITED to TWO SATA III ports.....PREVENTING creating FAST onboard RAID setups. The Haswell E is available with EIGHT,or, SIX cores...you choose !! Use at least 32 GB of system memory. Soon, Eric will post the results of the new Nvidia 970 and 980 video cards. in his video editing test. The 980 is ALREADY the top card in GAMING...BEATING the 780ti, DESPITE having LESS data throughput. The 980 MAY be the card you want....it is MUCH cheaper than the 780ti......down in the $500 plus range.
Use the new Samsung 850 Pro SSDs in your  new system...or, the cheaper Crucial M550 series SSDs. The SSDs are now WAY more reliable than HDDs and are WAY FASTER, in many ways.

  • Video editing help

I have a project coming up in which I need to do some video editing on iOS and Android (Air). I need to be able to join several videos clips into one, add some music, create some filters, and also transitions between clips. I don't really know where to start on this. I have looked into using Flascc to compile ffmpeg but sounds like this might not be a very stable solution. Does anyone know of any actinoscript libraries or ANEs that could accomplish this. Even if it costs. Any ideas?
    thanks

Take a look at MPEG Streamclip, available at http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html It supports many formats, and allows basic editing on tracks.

Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit SP1, Operating System, Single, - OEM
I have been advised to get a full size case rather than a midi. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated!

The advice to get a bigger case is correct. That GTX 670 will be a very tight squeeze inside that Antec 902 case due to the way the interior of that case itself was designed: The hard drives will interfere with the motherboard's expansion slots, restricting the length of those cards that will fit to only 9.5 inches long. Unfortunately, although a reference GTX 670 is about 9 inches long, higher-end GPUs will not fit if the PCI-e x16 slot is inline with an installed hard drive.
Speaking of the GTX 670, it is clearly overkill on any system that's equipped with only 16GB of RAM total. Plus, you will need a third-party CPU cooler in order to perform any overckocking whatsoever of the CPU. Unfortunately, the Corsair Vengeance heat spreaders are extremely tall (over 50mm high!) that they will prevent proper installation of any decent tower-style CPU air cooler, especially if all four DIMM slots on the motherboard are being used. You will need 32GB of RAM plus at least a good third-party CPU air cooler such as a Cooler master Hyper 212 EVO (and overclock the CPU to over 4.0GHz) in order for that system to utilize anywhere near the performance capability of the GTX 670.
Third, you do not need that particular Sound Blaster card at all: Its sound quality is surprisingly poor for a such a pricey discrete add-on sound card (or put it this way, it does not sound anywhere close to sufficiently better than on-motherboard audio to justify its cost).

    Hi All,
The advice on selecting hardware for video editing in CS 6 on this forum is excellent. Many thanks to all those who have taken the time to post!
Although I am a little overwhelmed, I have tried to incorporate as much of the advice as possible and check the hardware reviews. I am relatively new to video editing and the type of work I will need to do is HD, but primarily for the internet or DVD.

I would very much appreciate it if anyone had any comments or advice to share or let me know if I have missed anything or would be better off swapping out a component.
    Thank you!

The links Harm provided influenced the original build, but on his advice, I re-read them and decided to alter it and bit.
If I swap out the ASUS Rampage for the Deluxe model, replace the Velciraptor with a Seagate 2TB, and the water cooling with a COOLER MASTER, Hyper 212 EVO CPU Cooler (rated Gold by hardwaresecrets), then I can upgrade to the larger COOLER MASTER, HAF 932 Advanced and keep the price about the same.
Given my projected video editing demands, it doesn't seem like the ASUS Rampage MB offers much more than the ASUS Deluxe MB and the latter contains BT and wireless.
Since I do not intend to OC, there doesn't seem to be a great need for liquid cooling, especially with the larger tower case. At any rate, it does feel better not put "liquid" and "computer" in the same sentence!
The Corsair AX850 Gold power supply does indeed seem to be a better choice.
There doesn't seem to a concensus in the all the discussions relating to using a SSD vs a hard drive for the boot disk. However, since boot speed is not an issue for me I don't need an SSD and the Velociraptor seems to a unnessary expense. While I don't need 2TB for the boot drive, they are not much more than the 1TB.
The only question remaining is filtering the air. This machine will be in a dusty (but not dirty) environment. I read Harm's thoughts on air filtering provide in his link, but don't want to go the custom route. These aftermarket filters look nice http://www.frozencpu.com/products/11729/ffi-57/DEMCiflex_Cooler_Master_HAF_932_Magnetic_Du st_Fan_Filter_Set_-_4_Piece.html, but for the cost, I'd rather put another $50-60 into the case and get one with good filtering.
Does anyone have experience with a stock Full Tower with complete built-in filters they have actually used in a dusty environment they would be willing to share?

  • Video Editing feature in latest version of Photoshop CS6 does not exist/work. How do I fix this problem?

Hi everyone! I downloaded CS6 for a graphic design class that I was taking. I later found out that you could edit videos with the essentials portion of CS6 since it no longer has to be extended like in CS5. I went to import some videos from bridge and bridge would not allow me to do so. I also tried to open the files in Photoshop and I as I was looking at the type of files that I could open like quicktime files, wmv., mov., etc., I could not find anything relating to opening videos. The only thing that showed up were types of image files to open. Did I buy a faulty version of this program? Is there a way to get the video editing feature back on here or do I have to breakdown and buy Photoshop essentials separately?
    Thank you!
