Video Effect (premier or after effects)

Hey guys. This video has an effect that I find kind of neat and I have been trying to figure out how to do it with no luck. The video is
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3korJK3h…
The effect is from 4 seconds to 12 seconds.
The effect is the flashing lights.
If anyone could tell me how to do that in Premier or After effects that would be great!
Thanks
(preferably in premier)

Hi jeffreycm123,
This is an easy effect, but you have to either purchase or find for free (via an internet search) what are called "light leaks." They are also known as film burns, or film clutter, though they are technically slightly different.
Here is a link to a forum post with freebies: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?257299-20-free-film-burns!
All you do is stack up a clip with light leaks on V2 and change the opacity, or better yet, use a blending mode like Screen or Overlay (found in the Opacity parameter in the Effect Controls panel). Adjust opacity to taste.
Hope that helps.
Thanks,
Kevin

  • Is there a difference in Premier and After Effects Performance in terms of intel or AMD?

Is there a difference in Premier and After Effects Performance in terms of intel or AMD?  Forget the speed issue, assume that the processors are of comparable speed and also assume that the system is built beyond recommended requirements.  When it comes to reliablility and performance of either processor working and managing data with CS5, is there a difference?  I am looking to build a computer with multiple CPU's so i7 if out as well (unless you can convince me that have only one CPU is better than building with multiple)  Thanks for reading and I'm looking forward to any help you may give me!  Bow.

See Harm, this is why I am a BIG fan of your post!!!  Also thank you John for responding as well.  I have been wrestling with purchasing a new computer for months now looking for a CS5 CPU, trying to find the most economical purchase.  The last computer I had bought was specifically for CS2 and I spent over $8500 dollars for it in 2006.  A dual XEON 2.80 with Hyperthreading.  Back then I thought I had a great machine, but now looking at what I paid for, i feel much wiser.
I have seen the benchmark test and studied it closely, but until this post, I didn't know how the results translated into real world results.  I figured out pretty quickly AMD is no where near to Intel currently.
I am looking to edit primarily with AVCHD and will be using After Effects extensively.  So of course, I want processor speed and plenty of RAM.  But it gets expensive.  Sandy Bridge looks like an option but there is a RAM limitation and the recent problems with it.  i7 processors look like a good option but they are also 24 gig limitation.  Of course dual CPU Xeon gives me unlimited RAM practically, BUT i have a limited budget.
So in looking at the Benchmark Test, (which I love, but can't equate to real world applications - i.e. Time Savings between results - because i don't know what the length of the footage is) it has been hard to gauge a cost/gain benefit when choosing my next machine.
I noticed your results are 65.0 to ADK's 35.0 under the h.264 CPU performance.  I guess I am asking what is that in a real world time crunch difference?
P.S. I do realize that the ADK results aren't average.  If you wish, you may reference the #1 system with the top average of 45.0 under the h.264 CPU performance to give me an idea on comparision.  Also, I noticed your machine is overclocked.  Does overclocking make CS5 any less stable?
Thanks for all you do Harm, I appreciate your dedication to us Adobe followers.  You to John!
(sorry it has taken some time to respond)
Also, I noticed you are using Areca ARC-1680iX-12.  Nice!

  • Is (4770 3.5 i7 qouad core 8 mb cach) good enough for premier and after effect?

    Hi guys,
am buying the new imac 27" with its maximum features: 32 GB, 1 TB ssd, NVidia gtx 780 with 4GB, but I am worried about the cpu (4770 3.5 i7 qouad core 8 mb cach) is it good enough for premier and after effect?

Thanks John, but I've already read that page. I have just a simple question about the performance of "4 core" and "6core" if anyone had already tried both of them.

  • I was wondering what student plan included Premier and After Effects

Hi, I was wondering what student plan included Premier and After Effects? It seems not to say anywhere...
    Camilla

    The Cloud has three plans:
Full (all apps including Premiere and AE)
    Single App
    Photography Plan
The Full Cloud includes the software listed here
Explore Adobe desktop apps | Adobe Creative Cloud
So you can either subscribe (at student rate instead of full rate) to 2 x Single App plans (Pr + AE) or a full Cloud plan and get all apps

  • Rearrange Effect Menu in After Effects?

Is there a way to rearrange the effects in our Effect Menu in AFter effects.  I just installed a plugin and now I have an extra 20 folders in my Effect Menu.  It's really annoying.  I would like to combine all of those effects into one folder.  So I could select Boris, then in that folder would be all of the 20 new folders with all their plugins.  Red Giant would be another one I would like to combine, I have 4 or 5 folders from them also.  Just hate having my drop down menu to so long and un organized.  I realize most of you guys probably just use the search feature on the right, and that maybe what I need to start doing, I just like the drop down menu.
    Thanks for any help
    Chaz

No, plug-in categories are hard-coded in the plug-ins themselves. You can always use the Effects&Presets palette set to Explorer hierarchy and organize your plug-ins that way, though....

  • Premier Pro, After Effects will not download, all other Apps available

Running Windows Vista, SP2, 32-bit, Mozilla Firefox latest updates.
At creative.adobe.com/apps, click on Pr or Ae "download." Neither download works.
The installation window for AAManager.exe pops up, ask to "Run" or cancel.  Click on
"Run.  It runs, initializes and AAM appears with 14 of 16 apps.
Installed a few Apps that are available. Prelude works fine after install.  So, it appears to be App
    specific.
Premier Pro and After Effects do not appear in AAM.  Cannot install as a result.
Running a tight deadline. Appreciate help to quickly resolve this issue.
Zero error messages generated.  Running CS Complete subscription service.

Yourrearipoff actually Mylenium is correct.  I would recommend reviewing Not all apps displayed for download | Creative Cloud desktop app which discusses the need for a 64-bit OS as well as meeting the system requirements in order to download and install applications.  A complete list of system requirements can be found at System requirements | Creative Cloud.

  • Video playback speed in After Effects

After importing QuickTime video into After Effects it plays back at about half (or even slower) the initial frame rate (13 fps or so instead of 29.97 fps). Also in the top right corner of the workspace (Info Panel) I'm getting a message that "...Layer 1 Retrieving Frame".
Could you, please, give me an advise how to return video playback to normal speed?
               Thank you.

Sure, After Effects isn't a movie player. But it is possible to edit source footage in AE in order to make a coherent whole out of it, isn't it?
Technically possible, but not an ideal workflow. I can also cut through my filet mignon with a spoon, but I can do it a lot faster and with much less frustration if I use my steak knife.
I edit in Premiere and then use the Import>Adobe Premiere Pro Project option in After Effects to bring my edit into AE.

  • Trimming Video Saves Memory in After Effects CS4?

I'm working on this project, and I've got a bunch of large video files.  If I trim the video within the composition, does that save me memory  giving me longer RAM preview or speed things up?? Or would you suggest trimming it before importing it within the  composition. I'm worried if I trim the video before importing it, maybe  using VirtualDub or AfterEffects itself, I would lose the quality?
The clip was recorded using Fraps in 'full screen' mode, and I'll be  outputting it using After Effects to 1280x720 pixels. I need  to retain the quality so people can view it later in Youtube in HD.  It's a 6-min composition.
The problem is that the files are really large, a 2min30 sec footage  being around 3GB, and I'm not getting RAM preview longer than maybe 5-6  seconds now due to the number of files in the composition (most of them  will be used). I even turned on the multi-processor option and increased paging file memory. I was even using a 4 gig flash drive with Windows ReadyBoost.
    Composition Settings:
Preset: HDV/HDTV 720 29.97 (is this the correct setting if I want to post it up in Youtube HD?)
    Durating: 6 mins
PC: I got 4GB RAM on my system.
Total size of files: Around 20GB, 190 files.
There's one more issue, I actually need to crop the bottom/top part of the clips. For now, I've scaled the clips to exclude the top/bottom parts I don't need, but I was wondering if I should've cropped before importing them to the project. That would probably give me longer RAM preview, but then if I cropped the dimensions those clips beforehand would they lose quality? (Once again, done using AE4 or VirtualDub)
    Any help is appreciated

    >  If I trim the video within the composition, does that save me memory  giving me longer RAM preview or speed things up?
What, exactly do you mean by "trim"? Are you referring to shortening the duration of the video in the source file? That has nothing to do with RAM preview.
    > I'm not getting RAM preview longer than maybe 5-6  seconds now due to the number of files in the composition (most of them  will be used).
The number of files used as source for a composition aren't relevant to RAM preview length, either.
    > I even turned on the multi-processor option...
    Don't do that.
You only have 4GB of RAM. That's not enough for using the Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously multiprocessing feature.
Also, by using that feature, you dedicate RAM to the background rendering processes, which subtracts RAM from what's available for RAM preview duration.
You have very little RAM, so your RAM preview durations aren't going to be great. See this FAQ entry for some tips on mitigating this:

  • Dynamic Link Audio Troubleshooting- Premier to After Effects CS5

    Hello!
My name is Alley and I've been working on a project in After Effects CS5 using dynamic linked sequences from premier. I've been in this project for a good two weeks without any major problems concerning the dynamic link. When I open the project on another computer, however, sometimes there is audio missing from some of the sequences. I look in the premier project and sure enough the audio is all there, no keyframes or anything and it plays back fine. It just won't appear in After Effects even after a render. I know it probably has something to do with the different computers but I don't know if anyone else has ever had this problem before and if you found a solution.
    • Both computers are Mac OS X Versions 10.6.6 2x2.8 GHz Quad-Cores
    • After Effects and Premier are CS5 versions, completely updated
    • There are no errors or warnings popping up within the programs
    • All Dynamic Linked sequences are 2 minutes tops although there are a multiple of them
    • Not ALL the sequences have the audio problem, it seems to be random
I can't wrap my brain around how two nearly identical computers with the same versions of both programs are getting different results with the audio in the dynamic link sequence... Help me out?

Quicktime! The versions of Quicktime and or even just some QT component/CoDec may be different between the computers. Also keep in mind, that your alternate computer may in fact require you to explicitly open the project in Premiere to conform the audio properly first. If that hasn't happened, AE may simply not be able to use some tracks as it will expect a conformed audio file. This is critical especialyl with compressed formats. It may even require you to re-render the Premiere timeline on the second computer...

  • What program was used to make this video?  Is it After Effects?

I thought that this clip was funny: http://www.clipaday.com/videos/mccain-drums.
I want to make something similar for my brother, but I have no idea which program was used to make this.
I have the full Adobe CS3 Suite on my computer, including After Effects. I use Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator regularly for my job.
I want to try to monkey around with the video software at an amateur level. But before I buy any tutorials, I need to know what program to buy the tutorial for!!
    Thanks for any responses.

While the clip may not necessarily have been done in AE, you can achieve
these results. Careful masking along with good keyframing of the
movement properties will do it. There are other ways, but while this
might not be the fastest, would be the simplest and would provide a good
learning experience for someone starting out.

  • How Do I Do a Pedestal (Ped) Up Effect in Adobe After Effects

I’m doing a project using all still photos and I want to transition from the ground to the sky using a blurry ped up movement to make it look like the camera is going up to the sky quickly.  Is there a way to do that with after effects?
Not sure of what the ‘pedestal’ movement is?  Check out the definition on this site:  http://www.mediacollege.com/video/shots/movement.html

    Tp put it another way...
"Ken Burns" more refers (inappropriately giving credit where none is deserved) to simulating rostrum camera moves, true.
The ancient term "pedestal" refers to the vertical movement of the column on which the camera is mounted. In a traditional studio, the pedestal holds the camera horizontally. On a rostrum, the pedestal holds the camera pointing down at the stage. The pedestal movement create entirely different results depending on the application.
For all camera movement analogies, the origin of the terms is at the camera head. Pan, tilt, and roll are circular movements around the axes of the camera head. Pedestal, arc, tongue, truck, and dolly are movements that carry the camera to a new position in space.
In After Effects, we simulated all of these moves by changing the position, rotation, and scale of layers. With the introduction of the AE camera and flat 3D layers, position changes of the camera create real world changes in the relationship between 3D layers, a visual effect sometimes referred to as parallax change.
it is unfortunate terminology cannot be standardized and restricted to certain aspects of production. Pedestal is more commonly known as "setup" these days which is just as pad since my whole project is a situation to which I refer as a setup. We set up our setup in the studio before we set our setup on our cameras.

  • Premiere Pro effects remain on After Effect replacement Composition?

    Premiere Pro CS6
    After Effects CS6
When I am working on a timeline in PPCS6 and I replace a clip with an abode AE composition, does that clip, when moved over to AE and then back to PP, retain the color correction and other premiere adjustments I may have made?  That is, when I look at the clip again in PP, after it I have adjusted it in AE, I don't see the effects I applied onto it in PP.  However, I am wondering if those effects are still there but now contained within the comp.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
    Robert

No, because AE uses the source video of that clip.
In PR CS6 you can use adjustment layers for Color correction etc. on top of your clip and if you replace the clip with an AE comp. it will then affect the comp.

  • Spatial view 3D effect plugin causing After Effects to crash.

I installed the Spatial View stereoscopic effect plugin today, only using the 30 day trial.
However, every time I try to apply the effect or adjust some the settings, After Effects crashes.
Anyone else had the same problem?
I really need this plugin badly Q_Q

I think this is too specialised a question to get an answer :/
Nevermind, I've decided to go with Tridef, it's a lot cheaper and easier to use.
If anyone is looking to convert 2D video to 3D analglyph, it seems the way to go.
