Video export - how do I get perfect quality?

Hi everybody,
I created a slideshow with several pictures of nice quality. I exported the slideshow in mp4 with h.264, HD 1280-720 and bitrate 1500kb/s. But the loss of quality is quite big, especially brilliance and contrast.
How can I get better results?
Thanks for help

There are many ways to produce slide shows using iPhoto, iMovie or iDVD and some limit the number of photos you can use (iDVD has a 99 chapter (slide) limitation).
If what you want is what I want, namely to be able to use high resolution photos (even 300 dpi tiff files), to pan and zoom individual photos, use a variety of transitions, to add and edit music or commentary, place text exactly where you want it, and to end up with a DVD that looks good on both your Mac and a TV - in other words end up with and end result that does not look like an old fashioned slide show from a projector - you may be interested in how I do it. You don't have to do it my way, but the following may be food for thought!
Firstly you need proper software to assemble the photos, decide on the duration of each, the transitions you want to use, and how to pan and zoom individual photos where required, and add proper titles. For this I use Photo to Movie. You can read about what it can do on their website:
http://www.lqgraphics.com/software/phototomovie.php
(Other users here use the alternative FotoMagico: http://www.boinx.com/fotomagico/homevspro/ which you may prefer - I have no experience with it.)
Neither of these are freeware, but are worth the investment if you are going to do a lot of slide shows. Read about them in detail, then decide which one you feel is best suited to your needs.
Once you have timed and arranged and manipulated the photos to your liking in Photo to Movie, it exports the file to iMovie 6 as a DV stream. You can add music in Photo to Movie, but I prefer doing this in iMovie where it is easier to edit. You can now further edit the slide show in iMovie just as you would a movie, then send it to iDVD 7, or Toast, for burning.
You will be pleasantly surprised at how professional the results can be!
To simply create a slide show in iDVD 8 from images in iPhoto or stored in other places on your hard disk or a connected server, look here:

  • How can I get HD quality on DVD

OK, how can I get HD quality on DVD like I can for youtube?   I use mpeg2 or H.264 for my youtube videos and they look fantastic on there.  I use the NTSC widescreen for my DVD's and they look like crap compared to my youtube videos. I even notice that my video ends are cut off a bit compared to my youtube videos.  It's like it is burning the dvd's in standard instead of HD.  I have a canon HF200 HD camcorder.   Is there a way to get that same quality on DVD?  keep it simple for me.  I'm using PE7
    Thanks

Do you mean that you wish to Burn BD material to a DVD disc, or something else?
DVD is, by definition, SD material, and was designed to be viewed on a CRT TV. It is not HD, and that is what BD is all about. You cannot alter the DVD-specs., as they are written in stone. However, one can do things with a blank DVD disc. What they do, depends on what one needs.
Please let us know exactly what you want to do, and we can give you tips.

  • How can I get high quality video that will play on my Touch as well as ATV?

Within iMovie there are output settings for the iPod and for the Apple TV. Now I fully understand the video resolution restrictions of the iPod Touch, so I am happy using a widescreen resolution of 640x360 ("Medium" output setting). What I am not happy about is the quality of the Medium setting, which iMovie states is 1.7Mbps. The results are rather blocky to say the least. In comparison, I can output the same movie as "Large", with a res of 960x540 and a bitrate of 4Mbps, and it comes out a little soft, but the blocky artefacts have all but vanished. Unfortunately, of course, the iPod Touch won't play a video with this resolution. I have tried "Export using Quicktime" and can get good quality results. However, the video (although H.264 and 640x360) ends up NOT being compatible with my iPod Touch.
Basically, how can I output a video of 640x360 that is of the quality I want, and that also plays on my iPod Touch? If the "Export using Quicktime" can be used to achieve this, what are the settings to use?
    Thanks.

But why shouldn't I be able to have one video to suit both. I am happy with the resolution of 640x360, even on my ATV.
You can. Unfortunately, your desire for both a data rate greater than 1.7 Mbps (H.264/AAC compression) and the ability to play them on an iPhone/Touch/iPod is mutually exclusive at this time. Thus, you will either have to make different files targeted for different data rates for maximum quality on each device or you make a single file using the maximum allowed data rate for playback on the "slower" device and accept the quality it produces on whichever device you are currently using. If all you want is a higher data rate, use the MPEG4 Simple Profile which allows data rates up to 2.5 Mbps. Just remember that the H.264 codec is about 2.0-2.5 times as efficient and is roughly equivalent to an MPEG-4 Simple Profile file with video encoded at 3.00-3.75 Mbps.

  • How do I get HD quality when uploading to youtube?

    Hello,
I have a sony HD camcorder that records AVCHD. In Pre Elements 8 I upload my finished videos on youtube, the video is pixilated. I think I have to change the compression or bit rate but i don't know how. When i play the video in Premier Elements 8 it is HD quality. How do I get that same quality when uploading to youtube??
    Thanks,
    Michael

And, remember that YouTube will encode any/all submissions to their specifications du jour. One is at their mercy in the end, and what looks great today, might look poor next week, or next month. Also, be sure to check out their printed requirements on the day that you do your Export/Upload.
    Good luck,

  • How do you get professional quality digital photos????

You open a magazine or look online and you'll see celebrity pictures that look crystal clear. How does a consumer get this quality?? Is it the camera?? I plan on buying a new camera soon, a Canon with a Digic II processor, but I want my pictures to look like its from the AP.
Home pictures that are crystal clear still don't look like AP photos. There's just something that looks different - better, and I can't distinct what it is. Does anyone know what I mean? Thanks!

Depending on what you are looking at ... here is a brief answer to your question.
    1. Use a Professional or "pro-sumer" digital SLR camera ( $ 1000-2000 for the camera body alone)
    2. Use professional quality lenses ( usually $ 600 - $1500 for one lens, typically)
    3. Use Professional quality studio lighting ( for a basic studio quality lighting set up can run anywhere from $1500 - $ 5000)
    4. Do editing and retouching in photoshop.
    5. Have the knowledge to do all this, and understand photography and lighting techniques.
So if you have the $$ and the knowledge and the right equipment, your pics will have that same look.

    Yes.
I have a web cam that can do 1.3Mp
This App can get those that Can, to Display (And Display Only) the native format of the camera.
iMovie is likely to be able to see it as it can handle Camcorder feeds.
The difference you see in iMovie to iChat is the difference.
iChat, MSN (If connected via a Exchange Server to do Video), Yahoo (Vid only no Audio) and Skype on the IM apps use 640 X 480 or in Skype's case less.
Photo Booth seems to use the same as iChat to allow for the Composition tweaks (It uses the same Quartz files in the Compositions Folder)
By eye Comic Life that came bundled with some Intels also seems to use 640 X 480
So to an extent it depends what you are going to use the camera for.
iGlasses is a cross app Add-On that can "improve" and tweak the picture in various applications such as iChat outside of what the OS and Application Software have commonly set as Defaults.
the Adjustments tend to be within the scope set up by the manufacturer (i.e. allowing colour, white balance and Contrast and other settings the camera may have been designed for but not in the app settings)
Quicktime Pro, if you have it, can be set in Preferences > Recording to "Device Native" which tends to allow a sort of in-between iChat and iGlasses control (some features but not all) but will work with iGlasses as well.
It is restricted to a 4:3 format window though but this would apply to most Web cams anyway.

  • Video Offline - How do I get my video back?

This is the second time this has happened to me with adobe premiere elements. I went to open a video I have been editing and it says 'media offline'. And then when I try to search for it is says the video can't be found.
How can I get my video back?

    Leeat
What version of Premiere Elements are you working with and on what computer operating system is it running?
Have you been moving, deleting, or renaming files and folders that were imported into the project after you saved closed the project?
When you import media into a project, all you get are copies of the originals in the project. But the copies need to trace back to the
originals where they were located when they were first imported into the project. Does any of that apply to you?
If not, do you store any of your source media on an external hard drive? if so, the external hard drive may be malfunctioning and/or the
drive letter may be changing for a variety of reasons.
To get your project source media reconnected, best use the "Where is the file....?" messages one by one, targeting the exact file name
that the message is looking for. The message does not know where the files are. You have to direct the message to the place where
you know the file are (exact name of file) and then click select in the message. After you have processed a few of these messages, the rest of the missing media  may kick into place automatically...depends. Have you been there and done that?
Can you actually see the files that you are looking for on the hard drive or have they disappeared from their original hard drive save
    location?
Please review and consider and then we will decide what next.
    Thanks.

  • How can I get perfect synch on exported animation video?

I use CS4 on Windows 7. I have a lot of RAM and a big CPU. And yet, I am having trouble getting the exported video from my animated cartoon FLA to match the good motion/synch on the SWF. The FLA is sized 1920x1080. I have been exporting it down to 640x480 with various export settings for video and sound. The product slows down the motion at early moments like a scene shift tween, while the sound moves along as scheduled. Simply put, I want my MOV file's animation to perfectly match that of the SWF.

I tried that with the first sound file. When I did, all the other sound files began playing prematurely on the SWF. Should change all of them to stream, then playback?

  • How do I get the quality of video to be better on my iPhone4s

I always assumed the video was bad on my phone for a reason, but I never knew why. Everything from YouTube videos to basic Internet clips were extremely poor quality. A few days ago, a friend of mine with the same kind of 4s showed me a video with crystal clear quality and I was baffled. I asked him how he got his to be do clear and he said it had always been that way. So I am wondering if there is a certain feature I have turned off, or is it just a problem with my phone.

    okay
This is what I found out ... but the question now is .. is this still true for weblogic 9.2
    private void AuthorizeCaller(com.bea.control.JwsContext context)
    // get the caller principal
    java.security.Principal principal = context.getCallerPrincipal();
// get the name of the principal to which the token was issued
    String userName = principal.getName();
    // !!!NOTE!!!
// Even though the request message is signed with an X509 certificate (and WebLogic
// validates the signature by the time the web method is called), we still can't get
// access to the name of the caller principal (as we can when a username token is
    // used).
// When using certificates, principal.getName() always returns "<anonymous>".
// So we can't include appropriate authorization logic.
As the comments indicate, when the request message is signed with an X.509 certificate the name of the caller's principal is always set to <anonymous>. WebLogic doesn't expose the caller principal in any way. Based on discussions with BEA support, there is no way in WebLogic 8.1 to retrieve the caller principal when the request message is signed with X.509 certificates. The only way to get the caller principal is to have the sender include a username token in the request message.
The consequence of this is that there's no way to authenticate the caller (WebLogic verifies the signature of the request message but doesn't do any user account mapping). There's also no way to authorize the caller.
The best work around is to have the sender include a username token (at least until WebLogic is updated to expose the caller's identity when X.509 certificates are used exclusively).

  • How do I get HD quality video in final product

I am using an HD video camera and shooting at 30fps.  Its a Canon Vixia HF R300.
How can I produce a project in iMovie and burn in iDVD and still retain the HD quality.  I am finding that the final DVD in the player attached to my HD TV is showing to be poor quality.  I am hoping that I did not over promise to my client.
    Please help!!

    Hi
As Appleman1958 writes - or like this
    • DVD is as standard interlaced SD-Video - whatever program used to author it.
    • iMovie'08 or 09 or 11 - CAN NOT deliver this whatever way taken as they discard every second line in the picture when going from Event's to Project's and this can not be mended in after-hand.
    • HD-DVD can be made with DVD Studio Pro etc. BUT can only be played on dedicated HD_DVD-players from Toshiba (very rare and old ones) so in reality it doesn't exist any more
But max quality is obtained by
    • Using a Video-editing program that can handle and deliver interlaced SD-Video as
    - iMovie HD6
    - FinalCut any version
    • Using iDVD and Pro Quality encoding (if duration is > 45 miniutes menu included)
    • burn speed set own to x2 or x4
    • Use of high quality brand of DVD e.g. Verbatim
    • Use of DVD-R if it's supposed to be played on even older DVD-players
If this isn't good enough then
    • Save out as H.264 to USB-memory and play on device that can handle that as a PlayStation3
    • Burn a Blu-Ray disk (DVD up to 30 min) - BUT can only be played on BD-Players (as PS3)

  • How do I get the quality of my movie to match the quality of the export?

When I export my sequence into a Quicktime movie the quality is much worse than it appears in the editor. More specifically, it looks washed out. Thanks for any support and information on how to resolve this issue.

To verify, this is with Final Cut Express, not FCP-X, correct?
You should have a copy of QuickTime Player 7 on your system if you have installed Final Cut Express.
It is sometime located in the Utilities folder on your computer:
QuickTime X is not suitable for this kind of work. It is a general purpose player. I (IMHO) would not steer my color correction by what QuickTime X is showing me.

  • How can I get good quality screen recordings on a mac?

I am a web designer. I have a few customers who I make video tutorials for so they can find their way around their website. I have been using Quicktime Screen Recording to make videos so far. The quality is great when I view the origional movies on my own computer but when I export them to Youtube via Quicktime or export the movie as a .MOV file, the quality is lost. So I end up sending a video to my customers to watch that is fuzzy and out of focus.
What I want to be able to do is upload high quality, sharp video tutorial to a 3rd party video hosting platform like Youtube.
There are a number of paid apps on the app store for screen casting, but I am not if they would be any better than Quicktime.
I am willing to pay for an app if it does what I need but I would rather use the software that ships with the Mac if possible.
I am using a mid 2009 MacBook Pro. The screen on the laptop is not high resolution, the 27 inch monitor i am using is (I don't know if that will effect the video quality)
    Has anyone got any ideas?
    Thanks - Seb

Your problem is not with the screen recording app but with YouTube's method of making the movie smaller when you upload it.  You could try using Vimeo or some other service instead of YouTube.  But I suspect that you will get best results by experimenting with exporting to different video formats before uploading it to YouTube.  Everyone's in love with MP4 at the moment.  A lower resolution in MP4 won't undergo so much compression at YouTube's end.  Best advice from YouTube is here:
    http://support.google.com/youtube/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1722171&topic=28886 48&ctx=topic
The resolution of your capture area will definitely change how much compression is applied to your video.  If what you're demonstrating allows it, you should be capturing a smaller area than your entire display.  Remember that the smaller the file that you deliver to YouTube, the less YouTube will compress it at their end.
And lastly, remember YouTube is a free service: you pay nothing and get what you paid for.  If you want to host exactly what you want, get your own server and pay for your own bandwidth.  Then you get as much resolution as you like.
