Video exports as just audio?

I have just upgraded to iMovie 08 and am working on my first project; a simple task of splitting a single mp4 file I have into smaller parts to be put on my iPod Touch.
I've selected the first part I wish to export and have been experimenting with the new options for doing so. But while in iMovie the whole video plays perfectly fine, the exported video is simply a black screen with the audio track.
This is the same weather I export to my desktop or directly to iTunes, any idea what my problem is?

It does not seem to be selected by default
It is selected by default if you are using v9.2 and select the iPod preset.
was following this guide (http://www.anders.com/guides/convert/video/iPod/mac.html) which does not mention it, so I doubt I had 'iPod Atom' selected during the process.
Hope you realize that the information given on this web page is either grossly out of data or totally erroneous. For instance, dimensions larger than 320x240 are allowed, the data rates quoted should be used with MPEG-4/AVC (H.264) compression since MPEG-4 requires a 2.0-2.5 times greater data rate for the same level of quality, and "2-pass encoding" can increase your data rate excursions by as much as 300%-400% which can cause the data rate to drop below the minimum required to encode your video content in some cases. (E.g., your 500 kbps target data rate might vary between something as low as 145 Kbps and as high as high as 1.75 Mbps. where I would normally use 1.4 Mbps of H.264/AAc for a 640x360 iPod/iPhone/TV file and 2.5-3.5 Mbps for an MPEG-4/AAC file of the same quality in a single-pass/80% quality mode or 2-pass/50% quality mode. What you can actually get away with here usually depends on the actual video content -- i.e., contrast variance, saturation, brightness, the complexity and rapidity of vector motion, etc.
