Video feels a bit soft

Hi,
Let me first walk you through my workflow.
I made five compositions, each of which contains 2-3 compositions (which then have more comps nested inside). The main five comps are standard dvd resolution 872x486 (gotten straight from one of the preset options for comp sizes).
The nested comps are all at high def, 1920x1080.
So I rendered my five main comps (the 872x486) to uncompressed AVI, then ran those through Adobe Media Encoder at MPEG2-DVD VBR 2 passes. I've attached a screen cap of my settings
When I use Encore to author my dvd, and then view it on a dvd player, all of my fonts look a bit soft. Maybe it's my imagination, and that is the best it gets, but to me I feel like they could be a bit sharper.
Is this a product of my workflow? Or is that normal?

TimeRemap, I used the preset that did NOT have "progressive" in the title, so I believe I am using interlaced. Should I try progressive?
If your source content is progressive, then I'd recommend staying progressive. Rendering interlaced material from progressive source will result in two identical fields anway (unless you introducted additional animation). Interlaced material can look a bit sharper depending on the content, but usually that will apply to things in motion more than static imagery.
Here's a good link to more information about interlacing.
Of course, the first place you should look (the online help) has a great description and some very helpful links at the bottom of the page (including the one linked above).

  • HT4910 Feeling a bit frustrated that my contacts, mail, notes & calendar do not appear to be either backing up at all or only partially to iCloud when that was the purpose for using it to begin with. Anyone have suggestions or instructions how to get this

Feeling a bit frustrated with iCloud as it has either not backed up my contacts, mail, notes, & calendar on my phone or only partially. How helpful is that?? It has already resulted in "losing" data for me in my calendar & contacts since I've owned it at the beginning of this year. Would really appreciate any instructions or suggestions others have used successfully to "fix" this problem. Thanks so much in advance for your time & information!

Apple used to strive for smarter solutions but that has changed.
After "upgrading" to Mavericks you can no longer sync device to device with USB or WiFi.
This is so stupid! First, when you travel there are long periods of no WiFi or 3G/4G. Second, cloud-based services are still pretty worthless because it's slow. Third, cloud-based services are still pretty worthless because of low security. Fourth, cloud-based services are still pretty worthless because of low capacity (I have a calendar from my first Newton of 1996 and iCloud can't handle the amount of data).
Why would you prohibit safe and fast syncing via USB??? It's just plain stupid!
Do NOT upgrade to Mavericks if you want to keep your safe and fast sync for Calendars and Contacts.

  • Common video dimensions and bit rates for dynamic streaming?

I'm going to be converting my videos to flv and am trying to decide what to use for video dimensions and bit rates.  Some of my users have slow computers and connections so I'm thinking 150 on the low end.
Is there a common practice?  What has worked well for you in the past?

    Hello MrWizzer
I am not sure what FMS version you are currently using.
Well, if you look at the sampe vod folder that ships with FMS4.5, it has files encoded @ 150kbps, 500 kbps, 700 kbps, 1000 kbps, 1500 kbps.
I am sure that all of these files stream perfectly fine given the correct bandwidth environment.
Its totally depend upon the FMS hosting service provider depending upon the user base of a particular provider.
You need to judge what kind of BW is available to your viewers and put the files encoded at appropriate bitrates.
You may also look at http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashmediaserver/articles/beginning-fms45-pt06.html for refrences.

  • I can't open video in 64 bit Logic.

I can't seem to open any movie files to work with in 64 bit Logic Pro. I trashed Logic and did a complete reinstall but still can not seem to open videos in 64 bit. I also converted videos I'm trying to open into every possible format (including .mov, .avi, etc.). Does anyone have a suggestion as to what I could do to fix this?

If you are using video recordings from the Nikon D5200, you be expected to have AVCHD.mov files? Are they?

What are you doing with the Nikon NX2?
Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer with Premiere Elements? If not, please

  • Video jerks a bit after dip to white transitions?

I noticed that even before exporting, and viewing in Premiere, that after any dip to white happens, the very next frame of video jerks a bit. Doesnt happen in dissolves.. Happens on either still images or video. Any clues?

  • How to export a video with 32 bits ?

    Hello everyone
First of all, I'm french so I'm sorry if there are mistakes in my sentences.
I'm experiencing some difficulties with exporting my first short film with Premiere Pro properly.
I want the output to be a .avi file in 32 bits. Unfortunately, when I'm in the export settings window, there are no video codecs allowing the output to be in 32 bits (all the video codecs leads to 8 bits, or 16 bits, or 24 bits, but none of them go further). Therefore, in the "video codecs" form I'm compelled to select "None", and that gives me a 32 bits output that is enormous : 95 go for a 7'30" video...
Of course it's too big, and I can't upload it on vimeo, or either burn any DVD with it.
Do you know if there's a way I can export my project to a 32 bits video, but in a reasonable size ?
Thank you very much for your attention.
    Best regards,
    Damien

I would not count on a reasonble file size but Cineform offers 32 bits.
So does Lagarith if you have it installed.
Quicktime None, Animations and JPEG2000 offer 32 bits
Why do you want 32 bits, no good for vimeo or dvd.
Vimeo prefers mp4 and dvd mpeg2-dvd.

  • Viewing video in 64 bit mode

    Hi all!
I have a 2008 Macbook Pro with Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and Safari 4.0.4 installed. When I try to view the likes of BBC iplayer or even video tutorials from the Apple site I get nothing, but when I switch Safari into 32 bit mode the video works fine. All the videos work fine in Firefox 3.5.6. Any suggestions would be most welcome!
    Thanks in advance.

Check your Quicktime 7 settings in System Preferences:
Under Streaming, set for Automatic, enable Instant On and Play Immediately.
Under Advanced, click Mime Settings and ensure that Streaming (both kinds) are enabled.
(Note that if you are running Snow Leopard you should be using Quicktime 7 and not version 10, which does not have a preference panel.)

  • Firewire video in 64 bit mode - is this still a problem?

I've been holding off on upgrading from Logic 8 to 9 for a myriad of reasons, but the biggest head-scratcher for me is that you can't run Firewire video (or Digital Cinema Desktop, for that matter) in 64 bit mode.
Does anyone know if this issues still exist in 9.1.2/9.1.3?
Makes it very tough to score to picture when you can't see the picture...

This ONLY effects the 64-bit mode! And because Mac OS X doesn't offer this in 64-bit QuickTime, this problem still exists. But if you use Logic 9 in 32-bit mode, just like Logic 8, it will work fine.

  • I bought Logic Pro 9 in May and haven't had time to use it... And now they have Logic Pro X. Can I get a refund and buy X? I feel a bit ripped off as it stands now.

Can someone help? I feel bummed and a bit ripped off.  I'd like to have Logic Pro X now, with all it's nice new features. I bought Logic 9 in May and haven't had time to even look at it. You think apple will offer people like me a refund? I hope so. I just don't feel it's right to charge so much for the upgrade.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Apple offered a refund for users who purchased Logic Pro 9 30 days or less before the Logic Pro X launch, but they don't do it anymore, so if you want to upgrade to Logic Pro X, you have to purchase it in the Mac App Store
    Part of this is incorrect...
Some App Store employee's "accidentally" (but in good faith) issued refunds to a few users who had purchased Logic 9 within 30 days prior to the mid-July release of Logic-X. Word quickly came down from Apple HQ that this was against App Store policy and the practice was immediately stopped.
To the original poster.. you never stood a chance, even if they were issuing refunds you didn't fall within the 30 day period.  There were many who purchased Logic 9 a few days before the LX release who did not get a refund.

  • Export settings - 1080p Video at 24 bit audio ?

    Hello,
I usually export my videos in the H.264 format, as I have read online that it is the simplest way to ensure the highest quality for YouTube (with the preset).
However, I am making a music video for someone and they claim that when I render the video in this format is makes the audio duller...
The audio file is 24-bit depth, I am fairly sure that when I am rendering in H264, it is making the audio 16-bit.
(I'll admit, I have no idea what '24 bit' means... I am just reading what it says on the export wizard.)
I have tried exporting in AVI, since it lets you choose 24-bit audio... however, I cant get it to 1080p.
Is there any advice in what format I should export in if I want to retain the 24-bit quality but not loose any video quality.
Thanks in advance, this problem has been really confusing me.
    Sam

    Thanks for your reply.
    Just out of interest,
    Here is my audio file.
Any idea what may be causing it to sound 'duller'.
    (If it isnt the bit-depth)
I personally could not hear any difference, but the guy I am making it for could.
I think he works in professional sound, so there is a chance he may be using an external audio interface like you said.

  • "Pausing" the video for a bit

    Hi there -
I don't know the proper way to explain what I want to do, so can't find it in help or tutorials! I've got a video clip that I've clipped at the end, and I want extend it a bit - I want to keep the last frame on the screen for a few extra seconds. It seems like that should be simple to do, but I can't seem to figure out how.
    Can anyone help?

  • Slow, choppy video w/ 64-bit Athlon CPU & 32-bit Win XP

    Hello all,
My folks have an older computer.
(Please no replies that say "get a new computer." I have an old computer, too - probably older than my folks' - and Flash works just fine on it.)
I seem to recall reading somewhere a while ago that there is a problem with Flash working on a computer that has a 64-bit CPU but using Windows XP 32-bit version. That's the configuration.
What happens is that the audio plays fine, but the video lags behind and is choppy.
This happens in all browsers. It happens in safe mode with networking. It happens with hardware acceleration enabled and disabled. It happens across all Web sites - any site that uses Flash player has this problem on their system.
32-bit Windows XP Pro - Version 2002, Service Pack 3
    64-bit AMD Athlon 64 CPU 3000+, 2.0 GHz
    2 GB of RAM
    Flash version 11,9,900,170 installed
All of the latest updates for the OS, Flash, and all browsers.
I'm happy to provide more specs - just tell me what you need to know.
Also, I notice that in all browers, whenever i play flash videos, the CPU spikes to 100% constantly.
I've been searching the Web in vain for an answer.
Would greatly appreciate any help that anyone could provide.
    Thanks in advance.
    And Happy Holidays.

I would try rolling back to an older version of flash. I think some if the recent releases of flash have been ultra buggy. I have quite a powerful laptop cpu/gpu and recent versions of flash are a bit choppy for me too. This forum has had a huge increase in posters with problems. Video should pose no problem for a computer even if it is a few years old.

  • Currpted images & video due to bit locker

i just lost all my images, video when i was removing the bitlocker in windows 8 , when i recover the data its just get currpted plz help me to repair all the images..........

    Hi,
The BitLocker encryption and decryption processes can be interrupted by turning the computer off, and it will resume where it left off the next time Windows starts. This is true even if the power is suddenly unavailable.
    Bitlocker-repair (repair-bde)  tool
can't repair a drive that failed during the encryption or decryption process.
In addition, could you please explain a bit for what drive you are trying to deal with? external one?
When you first restart your PC, have you seen any signs that indicate that the encryption is in process?
Regarding your scenario, please take a look to see if the following articles could help here:
Scenario 11: Recovering Data Protected by BitLocker Drive Encryption (Windows 7)
Besides, when running manage-bde command, did we followed the steps mentioned in the below article?
Scenario 14: Using a Data Recovery Agent to Recover BitLocker-Protected Drives (Windows 7)

  • Displaying video with 16 Bit imagedata

    Hi there.
In the the past weeks, i learned a lot about JMF.
I managed to create a player/processor pair to display a serie of 8BIT RGB formatted imagedata.
I adapted the JPEGtoVideo sample from sun for this.
My next step is to do the same for 16bit images.
Since most displays can't display 16 bit colours at a time, i want to convert them to 8 bit using the IndexedColorFormat.
But no matter what I'm trying, i cant get it working.
Each time it's not possible to create a processor for IRGB data.
Maybe someone can give me a hint to find a suitable solution for my problem.
    Thanks

I find FCP's export queue very handy for converting large batches of audio. You can also use iTunes, but you have to switch your iTunes prefs around, and move the files out of your iTunes library after they are done.
    Hope this helps -
