Video files are slow to respond with "get info"

When trying to change the file information with the Get Info, it takes 40/41 seconds for each file to open.
If I change one file from movie to tv show and select next, it will also take 41 seconds to load the next file.
I dont know if its the new itunes or my brand new computer.
Has anyone had any experience with this?
Thanks
Craig

Alas, with much perserverence, I found a solution. My new machine is a Dell E520 and had updates to download .Firstly a BIOS update and more importantly an Intel SATA Matrix Storage Manage Update. With both of these updates, my iTunes is now reading video files in a few seconds.
The difference is mind blowing and certainly as it should be. In fact, it is better than it ever was (but then it should be with a new computer).
Thanks to you that reported the SATA problem. It gave me another avenue to research and a final solution. Which just goes to show, (what someone said to me many years ago): "don't accept something that is just ok, make sure you love it and you will enjoy it so much more."
Good Luck

    Hello:
I am very much a novice with Final Cut.  I am trying to import some video files from  my desktop but keep getting an error message that says, "File error  1 file recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown".  The file type is .mov, 35MB, 1920 x 1080, Codec MPEG-2 video linear PCM timecode, color profile HD (1+1+1).  Can someone help?  Thanks, Paul

You can't import MPEG-2 files directly to FCP X.
Can you play this file in Quicktime Player? If so, then you can use the free program MPEG Streamclip to convert this to Quicktime. Use the ProRes codec.

  • After upgrading recently I got this message: "The file 'iTunes Library.itl' cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes." The music/video files are still on my MacBook Pro.  Is it because I'm still on 10.5.8?  How do I fix this?

For your reference I’m using a MacBook Pro running 10.5.8.  Several weeks ago on a Monday I received an upgrade for iTunes. When Tuesday arrived I attempted to log in so that I could download the latest freebie song(s).  I was met w/this message: “The file ‘iTunes Library.itl’ cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes.”
The music/video files are still on my Mac (I’ve verified that via Searchlight), but I’m unable to open the program.  Since I know that 10.5.8 is rapidly becoming prehistoric, could it be that the newest iTunes isn’t compatible w/this particular OS?  I’d like to switch up, but understand that the newest OS won’t work on a Mac of this vintage (6 years old).  In addition, my Adobe products (all CS2) won’t work w/anything newer than 10.5.8, so I’m reluctant to go to a newer OS (I just can’t afford the Adobe upgrade $$$ @ this point).
Is there any way to get a download of an “old” iTunes version?  If there were, I’d simply refuse any future upgrades until my personal economy allows me to stop working as if it were 2006.  Please advise, somebody!

I don't know how you received an upgrade for iTunes.  You make it sound like it was sent to you.  At most your computer will tell you of a new version and you tell it to download it and install it.  However, a computer will not do this for a version which is incompatible.  iTunes 10.7 came out a few weeks ago but your computer would not notify you and even if it did, 10.7 would refuse to install on your computer.  So this part isn't making a lot of sense.
Two ways to get the 'newer version' message.  One is to open your library on a computer running a newer version, and then try to open it with an older version.  Usually happens when the library is on an external and used with multiple computers.  The second way is if you have multiple versions of itunes installed on your computer.
The newest (and likely the last) iTunes for OSX 10.5.8 is iTunes 10.6.3 which has been out for quite a while.

  • My avi video files are no longer supported in PRE9? Help!

I created a movie in premiere elements 9  several months ago.  My video was imported from avi files on my computer.  The avi files were originally downloaded from my camera.  Everything was fine and I even burned a near finished copy of my project on a DVD.  Now, several months later, I open up the project to put my final touches on it and notice that all the avi video files are red in the timeline.  On the organizer tab for my project under media type, it says, "offline".  So, I clicked on the avi file and it asks me to find it.  I find it (the files have not moved) and click on it and I get this error, "Error Message. This type of file is not supported, or the required codec is not installed."  This is very strange.  Do you have any ideas? My operating system is Windows 7.

I kind of suspected MJPEG (just a hunch, as two other CODEC's, commonly wrapped in an AVI, DivX and Xvid, seldom every play correctly to start with).
Now, there are many "flavors" of MJPEG. It is an older CODEC (or really type of CODEC, as there are so many versions), that was ressurected for use in mostly (then) stills cameras, with video capabilities added. It is not a bad CODEC, but each camera mfgr. has tweaked it for their purposes. This can create issues. MJPEG is not the "universal," that say DV-AVI Type II is. Canon will have a version, Nikon another and Panasonic yet another. They all show as MJPEG, but will be a bit different. A similar analogy can be drawn with Camer RAW files - Canon's differ from Nikon's, which differ from Panasonic's, though they are all Camera RAW. Also, Nikon, for instance, is constantly changing what is in their NEF (Camera RAW) files, so that the newest will require the latest release of Adobe Camer RAW (ACR), to be processed in Photoshop. MJPEG is similar to that, with fewer variations - but still individual variations.
Now, there could well be reasons that things have changed. The first one to strike me would be that you installed the software that came with that camera, and included its specific version of the MJPEG CODEC, then later removed say the camera's utility, taking that specific version of MJPEG away. You might well have others, but PrE is having a hard time matching them up.
In that article I linked to on MJPEG, I mention two popular MJPEG CODEC's, Morgan and MainConcept. Both are rather generic MJPEG CODEC's, and when MJPEG resurfaced, they worked fine for most such files. However, as time has elapsed, and camera mfgrs. tweaked and tweaked, they are less likely to work 100%. Once, they were the "silver bullet" for MJPEG - but not so much any more.We began seeing more users, with either, or even both, still having issues with newer MJPEG CODEC's. As most camera mfgrs. ship a copy of their specific version, somewhere along with the camera, it became common practice to recommend installing that specific version from the specific camera's utility disc. Unfortunately, that was not always easy to do. Some included their version of MJPEG as a separate installation (best way, IMHO), but many incorporated it into the camera's driver installation (still good), and then there are those instances, where the specific version of the MJPEG CODEC is installed along with other utilities on the disc, such as maybe a little editing program, or a file cataloging utility. Scant mention is ever made of the specific MJPEG CODEC, and how it is installed on one's system. The latter method seems to be the most common now. I have the full utilities, including the camera's own editing programs, installed for my Canon, my Nikon and my wife's Panasonic. That means that I have at least five (think that the total count is eight on my workstation) MJPEG CODEC's: one for Canon, one for Nikon, one for Panny, one Morgan and one MainConcept.
What camera produced those MJPEG AVI files?
Do you have that camera's editing and cataloging utility installed?
Do you have the utility disc for that camera?
Have you removed any such editing, or cataloging utility, between the time that the files worked, and when they did not?
I do not believe that any version of PrE actually installs any version of MJPEG (could be wrong here), though they work with, and include various other MainConcept (mostly MPEG) CODEC's. That means that one will need to install an MJPEG CODEC, and the one specific to that camera, might be required.
You obviously do have an MJPEG CODEC (or more), installed in your OS. As there is a vast difference between playback of an AV file, and editing that same file, it could be that PrE is just not able to use the installed version, with those files. As it once was able to edit them, I am guessing that something has changed, and it could be as simple as cleaning out one of the supplied utilities for the camera, that also removed its specific version of the MJPEG CODEC.
As PrE does not install the specific version of the MJPEG CODEC, many recommend not trying to edit such material. I am not of that mindset, but do allow that one might have to do some extra work (and work that is NEVER outlined in the camera mfgr's literature - unfortunately), to get things to work. I had to install a bunch of programs, that I will never directly use, just to be able to edit the MJPEG AVI's from my family's cameras, in both PrE and PrPro. I hate having to do that, as it fills up my HDD with stuff, that will otherwise never be used - but I need the specific CODEC, and it's only available to be installed WITH other software - all too common nowadays, and a mistake on the part of the camera mfgrs. IMO.
Good luck, and I hope that with the specific MJPEG CODEC, you will be back up and editing your footage, as you were once able to do.

PS - sorry for writing an entire encyclopedia there, but MJPEG is not as simple as it could be.

  • Video files are playing audio without video (just a black screen)

Video files are playing audio without video. It just shows a blank screen. These same videos work just fine in Chrome, thogh.

Try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox (you need to close and restart Firefox).
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
You can check for problems with current Flash plugin versions and try these:
*disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
*disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)

  • Using Sothink video downloader, normally video files are save in FLV extension. Now for whatever reason suddenly my video files are save in .ebm extension. "Save file Type As" is peg only on .EBM extension

Using Sothink video downloader, normally by default my video files are save in FLV extension. Now for whatever reason suddenly my video files are save in .ebm extension & I can't open my video file. "Save file Type As" -to select file extension does not seem to work -

It's a WEBM video file. My solution was to rename the file to have .webm extension, and play it with the latest VLC Player (2.1, but I think any from 1.1 and upper will solve it too). Just associate .ebm with VLC didn't work. I had to rename the files so VLC knew exactly what that thing was.
By the way, it worked the same way with a .eam file (!), I just renamed the extension to .webm.

  • Hello, I cannot show my video files on microsoft office program with  macair book 11 inc notebook while using projector

I cannot show my video files on microsoft office program with  macair book 11 inc notebook while using projector

When you next have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Scroll back in the log to the time you noted above. Select any messages timestamped from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first. Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

  • Typing on the iPad 2 very slow to respond with iOS 7

Why is typing on the iPad 2 very slow to respond with iOS 7?

    Try a Restart.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Apple recommends this only if you are unable to restart it.
     Resetting your settings
You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again.

  • Metagen is skipped sometimes complaining because all output files are up-to-date with respect to the input files

    Hi,
In one of my dll (VS2010), the process Skipping target "MetaGen" because all output files are up-to-date with respect to the input files.
it is at  random.  I have checked the time stamps of the dll and metagen.write.1.tlog both having the time stamp on the failed build.  But all files in release folder did not have the same time.  They are one hour earlier than the dll
    and the  metagen.write.1.tlog.
On the good build  it said the input file is is newer than output file ".\Release\\metagen.write.1.tlog" and allfiles in the release folder have same time stamp.
Any clue to solve this ?
    Regards,

    Hi,
Based on your post, I am not very clear about your issue. I feel your issue is out of support range of VS General Question forum which mainly discusses
the usage of Visual Studio IDE such as WPF & SL designer, Visual Studio Guidance Automation Toolkit, Developer Documentation and Help System
    and Visual Studio Editor.
Could you please provide us more information so that we resolve your issue better?
What type of project are you working with? C++ MFC project?
    How was the
metagen.write.1.tlog file generated in your project?
What error messages did you get?
    What is the 'input file'?
If possible, please provide us a sample project to reproduce your issue.

  • JDE 9.1 menus are slow during recording with OpenScript

    Hi,
JDE 9.1 menus (navigation) are slow during recording with OpenScript (newest version: 12.3.0.1 Build 376). If I turn off recorder everything works normal and fast.
    The problem is speed.
Is there any preferences in OpenScript that can handle this issue? Why is this happening?
    Thanks, Proven

Seeing similar things - what browser version are you using?   From what I have seen there is something happening with the BHO enabled on the browser.   We have seen a performance hit on IE 8 & IE 9 while recording and playing back
    The browser just seems "busy"
Haven't tried reverting back to 12.2 but have an issue open and provided IE memory dumps to Oracle .... will keep you posted on what they tell me

  • What video files are supported by iMovie 10.0.6?  I have to somehow convert .rcproject files to something that iMovie will accept but I don't know what kind of format to change to.

What video files are supported by iMovie 10.0.6?  What is the best way to allow iMovie 10.0.6 accept my .rcproject movies?

    Hey Sioux Falls,
If you are looking for information on converting or updating older iMovie projects to iMovie 10, you may find the following article helpful:
Update projects and events from previous versions of iMovie in iMovie (2014) - Apple Support
Note: To clarify, a .rcproject file generally only contains links and references to movie clips and effects that would be part of an iMovie project; it usually does not contain any actual video.

I can no longer edit album or song information in iTunes. I right-click on the album (or song), and the window opens with "get info", "rating", etc., but none of it operates. It won't get or save album art, anything. What have I changed to make it all stop working?

You are describing an iTunes problem, not an iPod touch problem. Try posing in the iTunes forum.

  • Error message: URL's with the type "file:" are not supported.  I get this pop-up twice each time I enter Safari and Mail.

Everytime I go into Mail and/or Safari, I receive a pop-up the states "There was a problem connecting to the server.  URL's with the type "File:" are not supported.  The pop-up comes up twice each time and I have to click "ok" to close them.  Only started after install of OS Lion 10.7.  Any one else have this and is there a solution.  It is just plain irrating that is does this each time I check my mail or go on the internet.  Thanks!

That's interesting. I bet that helps other Safari users!

  • Cannot direct files to open in original application with "get info" anymore

Upgraded to Maverick and installed Indesign CC 2014 only to find Suitcase has not kept up with an upgrade so fonts are not opening. I would like to use Indesign CC (9.2.2) until the font issues are resolved but cannot choose the application version via "get info" in the finder anymore (it just reverts back to CC 2014 when I select CC). I prefer not to uninstall CC 2014 but will if that is the only option.

LaunchServices can't distinguish between different versions of an application if they have the same bundle identifier, which is usually the case. Which version will be used to open files is undefined.

  • It thinks my video files are music

    I used my iPod with my laptop for the first time a few days ago, and for some reason it moved all of the video files on my iPod into the music section. I can only assume that's because I had a really old version of iTunes on that computer at the time. When I play one of the files on my iPod, it plays the audio and uses the first frame of video as the artwork. When I play one via my computer (but using the file on my iPod), it plays normally. Is there some way I can move them back to the movies section and/or make them play properly on my iPod? I could just delete them all and re-download them, but I wouldn't be able to get all of them back that way. I accidentally deleted the backup of a favorite video just before this happened. >.>;;
      Windows XP

I was browsing other topics while waiting for a response and read that there's a way to access all the files on an iPod through My Computer, which made me remember that I had hidden files set to be invisible. I switched them to be shown, and all the files were right there, with weird code names. I just copied all the video files into My Documents, sorted them, and put them back on.
