Video folder in finder POOFed away. Where is it?

Hello,
somehow I made my video folder in Finder to poof and disappear. I cant find it. Where did it go?

I guess by "poofing" it, you dragged it off the sidebar. To replace it, go to your home folder and you should see it. Drag it from the folder onto the sidebar. If for some reason you don't see it amongst the Desktop, Library, Documents, Pictures... folders, and assuming that there was nothing in it, you can create a new one. Just create a New Folder and name it Movies

Where is the home video folder in finder?

If that is indeed what he's asking about it is done within iTunes or some other program that can set the 'Media Kind' field in the metadata of the video.  In iTunes one right clicks (or control-click) on the video, select the Options tab and change "Media Kind" to "Home Video" and press OK.

  • Dreaded Gray screen with Folder and Question Mark (EFI Boot poofs away)

    Hey--
I've had trouble with my Imac that I purchasd in 2005 for a year and a half or so.  I had a gray screen about a year and a half ago, went on vacation for a week, came back and it booted just fine.  Another time it went down, I did a safe boot and it came back.  I've tried Command-Option P+R before with some success.  I had a boot camp partitioned windows xp drive on there also (I don't know if this matters, but wanted to mention that).  I've also tried putting the installation disk in there with no luck (thinking it would find the software on it)
I put it away because I moved and dragged it out of storage to see if a miracle might have occured since the last time I tried 5 months ago.  Well, same thing--gray screen with a flashing folder with question mark.  I read in the discussions to hold the option key down to select a book device.  I tried this and got an EFI Boot icon with a mouse pointer, but when I go to select it it "poofs" away (literally, the icon POOFS away) before I can select it with the mouse pointer icon.
Has anyone seen anything like this or have any suggestions?  I guess I'm at my wits end and am ready to haul it down to the Apple store to get the prognosis (I'm sure it will not be good--probably shot hard drive or something).  I'm hoping this can be salvaged without much cost.
Thanks so much for any advice or input you might have.

How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.
If yours is an Intel model, then I recommend getting Snow Leopard to upgrade OS X, but I would recommend first erasing the drive before installing Snow Leopard.
Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.

  • How do I upload videos from an SD card to the movies folder in Finder on my iMac?

I'm having trouble uploading videos from my SD card to my iMac. I'm wanting to save it in the "Movies" folder in Finder. When I open the SD card on my iMac, I am able to view the videos in QuickTime Player. They were an AVCHD file format. It gave me no option of saving the videos - not even with dragging them. So, I tried moving all of the files versus just one (in other words, instead of opening the file to view all of the videos, I just dragged the whole file without opening it).  It saved to my iMac, but in the same way as it was on the SD card - I wasn't able to actually save the videos themselves. They were only able to be viewed with QuickTime Player - I couldn't do anything else with them. So, I took my SD card out of the computer and put it back in the video camera. I then realized than I could not view the videos in the camera - they wouldn't show up. I then plugged the SD card back into the iMac. The videos were now saved under a BDMV folder versus the AVCHD folder they had been under earlier. The AVCHD folder was there, but would not open. When I tried to open it, all it said was, "This operation could not be completed." The BDMV folder allows me to view the videos in QuickTime Player, but I still cannot save them to my iMac from the SD card. I even tried saving the videos to iPhoto by dragging the BDMV folder into iPhoto. All it did was say, "The following files could not be imported. The file is in an unrecognizable format." So, now, I am completely confused as to what I need to do as to save the videos onto my computer, and even how the videos are now saved under a BDMV folder versus the original AVCHD folder in the SD card. I'd greatly appreciate it if someone could help me with this problem. Thanks!

You should have an icon of the SD card on the desktop - do you? If not, go to Finder Preferences > General and make sure these items are checked to show:
Once the icon is showing, you can just drag the card content to your desktop. It depends on what you want to do with the video - just watch or edit in iMovie to share online or burn a DVD?

  • After ios7 update, can't find any videos in my Video folder.

After updating our family's iPad 4 to IOS7, we seems to have lost all our home videos that was previously stored in the Video folder. When I click on the folder, it says a message pops up telling me it is empty, and advised us to download videos from the iTunes store.
IOS7 is really annoying. A lot of folders and apps disappeared and it took me a while to figure out how to get them back. But this problem with the missing videos have me stumped. I'm worried that the update may have erased the video files.
    Help!

Sorry, meant to reply way earlier...
Well, the iPad is really more my mother's right now. We do not have iCloud backup. I haven't tried restoring with iTunes yet - I'm a bit worried about doing that so wanted some more info before attempting it.
First of all, I don't know if the videos are still on the iPad - maybe they are just hidden (like some of her other apps were after the IOS update). So I don't want to accidentally do something to remove them for good.
Second, if the videos are gone, is the history of which videos used to be on the iPad also be gone on iTunes? Because I can't remember which videos she had, and as most are home videos without labelling, it's going to take me forever to pick which ones she wanted to resync back to her iPad. Also, if she took some videos with her iPad (although I'm not sure if she did), where are they? And will they be wiped with the resync?
I'm just hoping the 'missing' videos are still on the iPad somewhere...
I'm not sure if this is relevant, but instead of updating and syncing via iTunes, my dad hit the 'update software' button on the iPad itself - not sure if the update is corrupted by doing it this way? And because of this, I don't have the most recent backup either.

  • I poofed away my address bar and can't get it back

I was trying to get a URL for an image this morning, but for some reason couldn't drag the picture up to my address bar. Everything just kept highlighting instead. This was frustrating, so I tried "right" clicking and saving the image address, which I then tried to paste into my address bar. For some reason, it wouldn't let me paste anything. I tried doing it from the "Edit" tab, and I tried doing it through "apple+v"
None of it worked. I tried this at least three times. Somehow, the third or fouth time I clicked on the address bar and hit "apple+v" my address bar literally poofed away. Like I was taking something out of my dock. The back, forward, reload, and stop buttons are all still visible and functioning, it's just the specific "Address" and "Search" bars that I'm missing.
I didn't know this was possible! I tried to get it back through the "View" tab: I tried going through "Customize Address Bar" and "Hide/Show Address Bar" and I restarted everything at least five times. Apparently, my roommate tried the same thing and managed to poof his address bar away too (who knew!) but was able to get it back through the "Customize Address Bar" tab. For some reason, it's not letting me drag anything anywhere. (Or cut and paste anything! I tried copying something from Safari and pasting it into another application, and that didn't work either.)
Does anyone have any suggestions? I was going to google it, but I can't figure out how to get there :/

  • How do you choose your video folder so itunes can see it?

For some reason, itunes is not seeing my video folder on my laptop. How can I point it to the correct folder so I can sync some videos to my iphone?

Back in iTunes, click on the Movies or TV Shows menu items to see what iTunes sees. They have to first be listed there in your library.
Then try to play one. Just because they are listed there, if you ever moved them and didn't tell iTunes, iTunes has a pointer pointing to the old location. If iTunes can play them you should be ok (if in right format for iPhone). If it cannot find it, it will tell you (and put an exclamation point next to file) and you have to go find the file (iTunes will prompt to have you find it) so it can update it's pointer.
Only after iTunes knows where it is (eg: can play the file from your library) can you sync it (if in right format).

I'm in the same boat as you -- except that I manage both a school lab (volunteer job) and macs in the enterprise (pay job).  What I think we need is the Education Volume Purchasing Program
    http://www.apple.com/education/volume-purchase-program/faq.html
Unfortunately this all seems a little rough around the edges -- for example, I have found updates for AppStore apps on the support.apple.com updates download site, but then when I install them via ARD they don't actually update the software.  (The AppStore icons still show as needing the updates, and the version info reports the old version.)  The documentation is also vague about which AppleID to use in which circumstance.  I think they just haven't finished thinking through the implications of the various procedures and policies upon the various kinds of customers.  When we deployed Mountain Lion on the school lab, we made an install usb and went around and installed it on each computer -- and it appears that you are on the honor system as far as paying for all of the licenses that you install.  We did!  But they appear to have no way to enforce it.
So far, I have only deployed 9 Lion macs in my day job, and our "solution" to the AppStore showing updates problem has been to drag the AppStore icon off of the users' docks so they don't see them!

  • I'd copied some pictures from a PC to a folder in Finder in my new iMac. The 'Date Created' in iMac is not the same as the 'Date Created' in the PC. Why? Is there a way to fix that?

I'd copied some pictures from a PC to a folder in Finder in my new iMac. The 'Date Created' in iMac is not the same as the 'Date Created' in the PC. Why? Is there a way to fix that?

View Menu -> Sort Photos is a good way to start.
    Some organising possibilities in iPhoto:
I use Events simply as big buckets of Photos: Spring 08, July - Nov 06 are typical Events in my Library. I use keywords and Smart Albums extensively. I title the pics broadly.
    I keyword on a
    Who
    What
Where basis (The When is in the photos's Exif metadata). I also rate the pics on a 1 - 5 star basis.
Using this system I can find pretty much find any pic in my 50k library in a couple of seconds.
So, for example, I have a batch of pics titled 'Seattle 08' and a  typical keywording might include: John, Anne, Landscape, mountain, trees, snow. With a rating included it's so very easy to find the best pics we took at Mount Rainier.
    File -> New Smart Album
    set it to 'All"
    title contains Seattle
    keyword is mountain
    keyword is snow
    rating is 5 stars
Or, want a chronological album of John from birth to today?
    New Smart Album
    Keyword is John
Set the View options to Sort By Date Ascending
    Want only the best pics?
add Rating is greater than 4 stars
The best thing about this system is that it's dynamic. If I add 50 more pics of John  to the Library tomorrow, as I keyword and rate them they are added to the Smart Album.
In the end, organisation is about finding the pics. The point is to make locating that pic or batch of pics findable fast. This system works for me.

  • IPod Video Folder = All my Music

Okay, first of all, i've had really bad luck w/ iPods Lately... I had a 30Gig Photo, it "sadface icon'd" and i sent it in, got a new one and sold it to my friend and bought the new 60GB Vid. My friend had troubles w/ the new one and luckily got a new-er one for free. Hassle.
But anyway, i have the 60GB Video iPod and when i click the Video Folder, when i click movies it shows all my "songs" and when i click Music Videos it shows all my "artists"... It seems like a simple fix or lame gitch. If i send it in, i'll lose all my movies (didn't back them up). Over-all... the Music works Great, but even when i find Movies or Music Videos in the "songs" in Music Videos, they only play the sound and has the first screenshot on the page (and this isn't the "TV Out" issue, because i've tried that).

Ohh yeah... and this same deal happened to two of my friends, EXACTLY.

  • Duplicates in iTunes folder on Finder?

So, yesterday, I reinstalled the OS because my computer was having problems and running out of space, transferring over nothing other than the iPhoto, iTunes, and a couple of other apps. I used an external drive to hold those files. Then, I moved the iTunes library to the right location under Users>Music. Before I reinstalled the OS, I consolidated the iTunes LIbrary so everything would be in one folder. This causes duplicates of many songs and files, as they all had to be duplicated and moved to the right folder in Finder, for an easier time moving the files to the drive. I didn't care about duplicates because I would be using a new machine. So, I let everything transfer. Everything went right. Except, now when I go to User>Music>iTunes, I have all my songs under iTunes Media folder which is User>Music>iTunes>iTunes Media, and all my songs also in the Music folder in User>Music>iTunes>Music. Are these all duplicates, and if so, which is safe to delete? Laslty, I have music in "All My Files" too and it has about 3,000 more files than the iTunes LIbrary does, so there are duplicates there. But I don't think those music files are even supposed to be in "All My Files," They should be in the iTunes folder. Can anyone help with getting rid of those duplicates? I'm on a mid-2010 13'' Macbook Pro running Mountain Lion.
Thank you very much for your help,
    Phillip

    Hello Phillip,
If you consolidated the files in iTunes, then yes, the location for all the music is iTunes Media folder. I would double check and get info on some of the files in iTunes to makes sure that is where the files are located.

  • Finder window and where it is

When I open my applications folder, the screen opens to where I had last scrolled. So let's say for instance that I scrolled all the way to the bottom of the window to the utilities folder. I can close out that finder window and open a new finder window, and when I go to the applications window, the window is scrolled all the way to the bottom near the utilities window (a.k.a wherever I had last scrolled to, middle of window, wherever). Is there a way I can fix this problem so that every time I open up the finder window, regardless of if it's the applications window or whatever window, the window is scrolled all the way to the top?

So, after two weeks and no replies, I must feel that I am the only tree in the forest that is having the problem stated above.
The problem is, I still have this issue! I can't click to start a screen recording, I can't click on the play, stop, pause, fast forward, rewind buttons, can't select the 'header' bar and move it around my screen - NOTHING.
I've tried everything that appears to be logical to me and every time I try something, OSX ML defaults to the next app that's running. Tonight, I tried to make a screen recording with QuickTime. I went FILE> Screen Recording and voila, the dialogue box. Could I click on the silver and red button to start the bloody thing? NO! All I get is Motion - which is the next app in the stack.
Quite honestly, QuickTime 10.2(603.6) on ML10.8.2, *****; blows; is a waste of space, defunct and the developers should take a holiday and upgrade something like Windows Media Player. THAT'S how irritated I am about this.
Now if this is an overlooked issue I wil have no problem in praising and extolling the virtues of QT on my MacPro. It works well on my MBP, for instance and all of the options are the same in both.
So, if anyone is interested in dipping their toes into the cesspool of this 'issue' then I'd be very happy.

The Library in your home directory is usually where your preferences are stored (mostly in Preferences).  This is generally also where other additional data programs create are save Application Support).  There's many other folders too for Documents, Movies, personal preference panels, widgets, screen savers, and so on.
Note that there is another Library folder in the boot directory with similar goals but that is for system wide data as opposed to the one in your home directory which is specific to your account only.
There's also a third Library I won't discuss that belongs to the OS.
