Video format on iPad 1, iOS5.1.1?

What video format will allow vacation videos (from iPhone 4) to transfer to iPad 1 running iOS 5.1.1? Pushing them through the (Windows) PC hasn't solved the problem.

Sorry - I tried to sound more tech savvy than I am. My wife saves her iPhone 4 photos & videos to a folder on her PC, tagged for transfer to her iPad 1 through iTunes. Only the stills are picked up; videos don't transfer, & in fact trigger an error message about a format not playable on the iPad. How to move videos to iPad?

  • Video Format on iPad Mini

    Dear All,
    I am pretty sure this question has been asked many times. My apologies for asking again but when I searched for the keywords "video format" in the forum, I didnt get any hits.
    I read on the Apple page that the iPad Mini supports MP4 and MOV.
    I converted some AVI files using Bigasoft MKV Converter, which converts nearly all types of movie files, into MP4's and MOV's. iTunes 11.0.1.12 loads both these formats into its library but when I attempt to synch it with my iPad, iTunes says that the synch cannot occur because iPad doesnt recognise the format of the file.
    Can someone please show me where this has been discussed before or briefly explain to me how I can transfer my AVI's into a format my iPad can read.
    P.S. This is my first Apple product, so please pardon my utter ignorance.
    Best regards,
    Kenneth Gomez.

    Is there any difference between the video supported on an iPad mini vs. an iPad (iPad 3)?
    Until today, I would have assumed of course not...but I've got 2 iPad Minis for my kids and an iPad for myself.  There are a series of videos in my iTunes that play fine on ATV and my iPad but when transferred to either of my iPad Mini's don't work.
    When I sync to either of my iPad mini's, I see the movie being transferred over.  The mini has less storage space as a result of the transfer as well so the content / data is on the Mini somewhere - but the Video App does not see the video (either by going to the App or going to Usage in system preferences to see what's in the video app).
    So the summary is :
    -- 2 X iPad Mini's and an iPad 3 syncing to the same iPad library
    -- Movie A works on iPad 3, but is not recognized by the Video App at all on either of the Mini's
    -- I've tested this on a half dozen different movies, all were created / formatted for iPhone / iPad - all work on iPad 3, those that don't work fail on both Mini's
    Any thoughts?

  • What video format does iPad prefer?

      I have tried mp4 and mov. files but I always get " can not download - video file is not supported by iPad" . The best part is, I can't even playback videos that are recorded from my iPhone. Any advise?

    For iPad you can play video other than mp4 by:
    1. Using third party player: such as OplayerHD Lite that maximum 720p such as Matroska container, FLV container,  AVI container.
    2. Re-muxing the stream into mp4, it is possible if all stream such as x.264 / AVC / h.264 Video with AAC audio stream. Muxing only re-saving into other container, it takes 1 seconds to 15 minutes maximum for 1080p 2 hours movie.
    3.  Re-encode the whole movie to mp4, this take 1 hour to 1 night, if the stream cannot be player by iPad spec.
    For option 1: Clear enough.
    For option 2 : [PC only - XMedia Recode], this you can view 1080p mp4 movie, take 1-10 minutes
    Download and install Xmedia Recode and mediainfo PC.
    Open the video, make sure the Video is AvC or H.264, or it needs to re-encode using Handbrake or Xmedia Recode, Check the audio, make sure is AAC 2 ch/6ch
    Check the mp4 output, Custom format, sync audio/video
    On the Video tab, check video copy if the video already on AVC or H.264. It will take minutes.
    If it is not AVC or H.264 then uncheck the video copy to re-encode the video. And it will takes hours.
    On the Audio tab, check audio copy if the stream already AAC 2ch/6ch. It will take secods.
    If it is mp3, AC3, DTS , Ogg then it needs to re encode the audio, It will take minutes.
    Insert the title as wish, Dont edit/crop if you are just mux / copy check the video.
    subtitle muxing are not supported to be muxed using Xmedia Recode, nor multi audio streams.
    Add job, Start. The mp4 will be delivered in secods or 10 minutes max if just mux.
    If you have subtitle, or extracted from MKV, make sure has same name file and subrip srt mode.
    You can mux subtitle and mp4 using Subler that available on Mac only.
    You can add metadata, cover, chapter using iTunes or Subler.
    You can view the mp4 without subtitle or m4v Subler result using Video app iPad, or
    You can view the mp4 + movie subtitle srt using third party player like OplayerHD Lite with iTunes plugin on.
    Please remember the 1080p MP4 needs Copytrans manager for transfer to the iPad Video app
    For option 2 : [Mac only MKV input- Subler], you can have the 720p /1080p subtitled m4v for 1-10 minutes
    Download and install Subler free and mediainfo mac free
    Open the video, make sure the Video is AvC or H.264 MKV, if not you must using Handbrake to re-encode it.
    Check the audio, make sure is AAC 2 ch/6ch using mediainfo mac, if it is AC3 will be converted easily using Subler.
    On preferences Subler, check the jpg chapter, and encoding AC3 to Stereo AAC.
    Import mkv streams to subler, after open the mkv.
    If you have multi sound, make sure the first stream is AAC, and the Group Alternative is 1 for all audio streams. If not multi audio stream, just Set Group Alternative  to none.
    If you have subtitle, or multi subtitle, make sure set Group Alternative to 2 for all subtitle, or 1 if the Audio Stream is none Group.
    Add chapter if you wish, chapter should after subtitle streams.
    Insert the title and cover as wish and others metadata as you wish
    Save as m4v. Check both 64 bit if your file ouput was bigger than 2GB.
    Optimize the m4v.
    Please donate to the subler if it useful.
    For option 3: Re-encode with Handbrake take long hours
    Clear enough. With Handbrake you must re-encode the whole movie, but you can mux the soft subtitle also.

  • What formats for iPad for dvd?

    I want to convert some dvds to my ipad for the kids.  what format should movies be in on my ipad? AVI? MPEG? OR SVCD?  Which will give good quality but not use up alot of space?

    The manual lists the video formats the iPad likes
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/ipad_user_guide.pdf
    Presuming these are home movies or other non-copyright protected videos, Handbrake works quite well to convert formats. If it's commercial dvd's then you'll need to research elsewhere. No one here is permitted to assist you in breaking the CSS encryption on a commercial DVD.
    If you're wanting to get commercial dvd's onto your iPad, an easier way may be to get teh movies from iTunes, then you'll own them and won't have to mess with conversion.

  • ITunes error message - "video format is not supported by the iPad" My video is mp4, mpeg-4.

    When syncing my iPad 2....  Why do I get this iTunes error message? "video format is not supported by the iPad"
    My video is mp4, another is mpeg-4.
    I thought the iPad 2 could play almost any format.

    Must conform to these specs:
    Video formats supported: H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format
    Or download an alternate video player,such as avplayerhd.

  • I recored a video with my ipad, downloaded it to my mac but I cant upload it to Youtube because the format IMG is not a video format. How can I convert it?

    How can I convert a video I took with my ipad on the format IMG to a supported format for Youtube?

    To upload videos to YouTube we have to make sure videos are in a format that YouTube accepts. Here’s the list of some well-known video formats which YouTube supports:
    WebM files (Vp8 video codec and Vorbis Audio codec)
    MPEG4, 3GPP and MOV files – (typically supporting h264 and mpeg4 video codecs and AAC audio codec)
    AVI (Many cameras output this format – typically the video codec is MJPEG and audio is PCM)
    MPEGPS (Typically supporting MPEG2 video codec and MP2 audio)
    WMV)
    FLV (Adobe – FLV1 video codec, MP3 audio)
    But I think you get the wrong video file. iPad recorded video files are in m4v, mp4, mov, avi format but not the img files. Anyway, if you need a video converter, Format factory or iFunia video converter are good choice.
    Good luck!

  • Trouble with loading videos - Manually manage music and videos not supported now with iOS5 and a 1st gen iPad?

    Since updating my iPad 1st gen to iOS5.0.1 videos don't get loaded properly into the Videos app.
    On the Summary page in iTunes of my docked iPad, I have always checked the box for "Manually manage music and videos".
    I have my reasons for doing it this way, but that's for another thread perhaps.
    The problem is that when I load a video to my iPad this way - by simply just dragging it from the desktop and onto the iPad, under Devices in iTunes - it copies/updates, and shows up on the iPad like it always has before iOS5. But now, with iOS5, when I undock, it can't be found anywhere within the Videos app on the iPad. The only way I can find it is to do a Search, which seems to find it, but when I click it, a different video plays - the first video in the Movies list in the Video app. Dock the iPad again, yes the video is there, according to iTunes, but no way to play it once iPad is undocked.
    My suspicion is that with iOS5 you are no longer able to use the "Manually manage music and videos (Mmm&v)" that you will be forced to run everything through iTunes - and probably iCloud. I've unchecked the Mmm&v box, and get prompted with "Are you sure? - All existing content on the iPad will be replaced with content from your iTunes library". READ - "Rebuild your entire video and music collection, and this time run it all through iTunes. Welcome to iOS5. Have a nice day or two wasting your time rebuilding your entire video and music collection. Don't fight it. Use iTunes for everything! Until we finally make iTunes a decent piece of digital media management software, then you'll have to do it all again."
    Okay, rant over - Anyone out there with running iOS5 on a 1st gen iPad with the Mmm&v option checked and able to load a video manually (not through iTunes)? Any other thoughts?
    Thanks

    Yea, i managed to fix my issue in a wild fashion way But I DONT suggest it to anyone.
    I like to hear why it happened after upgrading iTunes and if there is any peaceful solution.
    Bythe way, here is how i fixed it :
    1-i checked "manually manage music and videos" checkbox and clicked on "Sync" button
    2-It showed a threating message that it will erase my music and videos ,......
    3-I clicked on OK button and let iTunes do any thing she said , but the second it started to delete my treasures from my iphone, i disconnected my phone by pulling USB cable.
    Now i have my musics and videos untouched and got that Option enabled again and i can manage my Music/Videos and Books manually.

  • I want to play AVCHD videos in ipad from my JVC camcorder.which is the best tool for converting the avchd videos to formats that ipad can play?

    I have a JVC HD camcorder that creates videos in AVCHD format that ipad cannot play. Which is the best tool to convert these avchd videos to the format ipad can play?

    Airplay is a wireless streaming protocol. It allows content to be pushed from the iPad through the Apple TV onto your connected HDTV.
    If she wants to see the iPad displayed on the big screen and/or play games that involves mirroring. As long as it's an iPad 2 (or later) then you will be fine. More info on both has been referened below

    Thanks for that. Much more constructive than the last comment. It's only the restriction code I can't recall, not the access passcode. So I can currently access the device, just not age restricted content. Does that's make a difference? I also wondered if anyone knew how many attempts you get to try to get it right. Now tried 21 times and so far nothing bad has happened but I am concerned I'll eventually be completely locked out of the device. That doesn't seem in the spirit of things though. Surely it's foreseeable that a child could repeatedly try to guess the code so I can't see that it would be right to lock the device down completely in that circumstance, particularly if the access code is being typed in correctly every time.
    Thanks

    The camera connection kit can only be used to import photo/video files from a camera, SD card or USB flash drive. You can't import other types of files. You can't export any type of files using the camera connection kit.

    [email protected], on an iPad, here's what I did to get the FLV loading and taking up (most) of the screen. You can't use the FLV Component skins so you have to use the UI Components as markc888 suggested below your comment. My only gripe with this solution is that I can't get the fullScreen button to make the video go full screen.
    This is starts from a playVideo button on my stage.
    playVideo.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, playVideoClick);
    function playVideoClick(event:MouseEvent):void {
    var flvPlayback:FLVPlayback = new FLVPlayback();
    flvPlayback.x = 62;
    flvPlayback.y = 62;
    flvPlayback.width = 900;
    flvPlayback.height = 506;
    flvPlayback.fullScreenTakeOver = true;
    flvPlayback.autoPlay = true;
    flvPlayback.source = "yourMovie.flv";
    flvPlayback.bufferTime = .1;
    addChild(flvPlayback);
    flvPlayback.playPauseButton = playPauseBtn_mc;
    flvPlayback.stopButton = stopBtn_mc;
    flvPlayback.seekBar = seekBar_mc;
    var closeMovie:yourMovieClip = new yourMovieClip();
    addChild(closeMovie);
    closeMovie.x = 977;
    closeMovie.y = 77;
    closeMovie.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, closeMovieClick);
    function closeMovie(event:MouseEvent):void {
    flvPlayback.stop();
    removeChild(flvPlayback);
    removeChild(closePres);
    Hope it helps...
