Video Formats in Flash CS4

I recently upgraded to CS4.
Previously in CS3 I was Importing Quicktime .mov files using the Import Video command. In the dialog that would appear, I would choose progressive download and ON2 VP6 and Flash CS3 would then initiate a progress bar with the ultimate result being the creation of a new FLV file made from the .mov. This always worked fine in the past.
Now with CS4, it was my understanding that I could import Quicktime movies that use the H.264 standard without having to create an FLV... is that true? The reason I ask is because I just created (3) 2 minute videos in Final Cut Pro Studio and exported them to Apple Compressor 3 which further saved them as .mov H.264 files for web downloading. These files play perfect from the hard drive using Quicktime Player. So, I opened Flash CS4, used the Import Video menu item as before, progressive download, etc. and now instead of creating a new FLV file I just saw a progress bar saying something about reading Metadata and then the video icon appeared on stage in Flash. After publishing the SWF, the movie played fine from the hard drive. Since I did not see a new movie file created by Flash after importing or publishing, I was assuming that it was just pulling the video data from the original .mov file I imported? The problem I ran into was when I uploaded all the files (including the original .mov file) I only got a video control bar showing with a progress bar running, but the video never appeared. Did I do something wrong?
As a workaround, I tried dragging the .mov into the new Adobe Media Encoder CS4 and created am F4V (a new file on my desktop). The filesize was smaller than the original .mov, but when I imported the F4V into Flash and published that to the web it played fine (a bit lower quality though).
Also, when I dragged the .mov file to the Media Encoder it stated that it was an FLV file not a .mov H.264 file.
What am I missing or doing wrong? How is the best way to get a Quicktime H.264 file imported into and published from Flash CS4 for the highest quality?
Thanks for any help!

Yes you can do that.Theres a couple ways.
1.
You will want to load the flv - in whatever fashion - into a movie clip, then blur the movie clip with filters. But this can have serious damaging effects on runtime performance.
2.
If you have the source files, and the video will never need to be sharp. You can go into your video editing software (After Effects, for instance), extend width and height of the composition, blur your video there, and render out with alpha channel.

  • Adobe Media Encoder CS4 H.264 iPod video format green flashes in Quicktime

Quicktime 7.3.1 apparently shows no flashes but 7.4.5, 7.5.5 and 7.6 all show green flashes on videos encoded in AME CS4 H.264 iPod video small.
    No other quicktime versions tested.
Videos play fine in VLC Player and Adobe Media Player.
Videos encoded with the latest MediaCoder sourceforge application play fine in Quicktime.
Clearly something's wrong with the way Adobe exports and the way quicktime 7.3+ reads H.264 videos.

I think it may be the QuickTime Player issue and not Adobe Media Encoder. Its seems to play find in other players like Adobe Media Player and Windows Media Player after installing Windows Essentials Media Codec Pack 2.2c. (http://download.cnet.com/Windows-Essentials-Media-Codec-Pack/3000-2140_4-1066270 9.html). Haven't check to see if it plays correctly on my i-Touch. Not all videos I encode from .AVI to .MP4 using the i-Pod small preset seem to have this issue.

  • Video Problems with Flash CS4

I'm having what I think is video problems since I switched to
CS4. Frequent apparent redraws leave remnants on screen, panels
    move back and forth, etc.
I have a Dell Precision 490 with 4gb ram and a nVidia Quadra
fx 550 with 128 megs of ram. Open GL is enabled. I have loaded all
    the latest nVidia drivers.
If this sounds like a video card problem, can anyone
recommend a good, not too expensive card? I don't play any games,
just use the machine for PS. ID and Flash mostly.
    Thanks in advance.
    Jon

Just to be clear, when you initially did a Burn to Disc for the DVD, it tested and played perfectly, including the full Linked Timelines. It was ONLY with the Flash Export, that things went pear-shaped. Is that correct?

  • Client Web Review Videos (Flash CS4)

As part of our video production process, we used to encode client review AVI videos in Flash and publish them from Flash. Once published, I would open the published HTML file with notepad and copy and paste the appropriate Flash related code into a template on our web server. The Flash code would be pasted in an html table cell in the template html file.
This method consistently produced Web review videos that worked fine and played immediately.
The process has changed with CS4. Now Flash doesn't accept and transcode an AVI file. You have to transcode the AVI in Media Encoder and then import the *.flv or *.f4v file into a Flash Project via the Import video function.
Here is the problem I have... The finished product that used to work on our server will now play fine locally, but refuses to play on the server. The server is based on "Free BSD".
I had the server administrator check the MIME types and he entered them last night for flv and f4v files. I haven't had time to try again, but what makes me skeptical regarding the MIME type issue is that Flash, flv or f4v based video exported from Encore play fine on our server.
My thoughts are, it is either an issue related to a Microsoft fault, like the fact that PhotoShop files no longer display preview thumbnails in Windows Explorer, or the problem is related to an extra "hidden" step I am not taking with CS4 in order to make Flash CS4 videos play on a web server.
I have addressed this in the Flash forum. I got one response from another guy having the same problem, but he said has not received any feedback whatsoever that has been helpful in resolving this problem.
    My final thoughts are this:
Flash video created in Flash CS4 won't play on our server but the same f4v and flv files created and exported from Encore CS4 will. My suspicion is that In Flash CS4, I have to create an accompanying Java Script file or something, that is published to the server as well... Or possibly I need to install a Flash Extension that enables Flash exported video to play on a server.
You might ask, why use Flash when Encore works. The reason is, Encore isn't flexible with the video controllers. Our clients want to be able to easily scrub to certain points in the review video. Also, I want our review videos to be enclosed within our Website template with our company's navigation buttons.
    Any thoughts?

I've always enjoyed working in Flash. To be really good at it, you need a strong creative right brain as well as a good handle on programming, particularly Java Script and Flash's Action Script. I would need to learn programming to expand my creativity with Flash. Web design can be a frustrating profession. Back in 97' a guy who referred to himself as a scientist, taught me the basics of Web design. He claimed to have developed the technique of "slicing" images and optimizing the pieces individually and placing the image pieces in HTML table cells. He meticulously hand coded all of his clien'ts websites. I remember checking in on one of his masterpiece websites a few years later, only to see things all messed up. The thing basically fell apart. I don't know if it was because the browser I was using didn't read the HTML in a standard way or what. But the site looked terrible. You think we have problems in the video production business... try building websites for a living.
The Flash video my original post is about was created for a producer friend, who's trying to get some people interested in a reality TV series. I tried to make the Web page where the Flash is embedded more interesting by using a jpg background referenced in the HTML using a java script that "stretched" the image to fit any browser window size. I thought the finished page looked great. We tested it on several computers, and everything looked and worked fine. The first important guy to look at the page couldn't see the video, just the background. I took the background out. I got another phone call from someone who said they couldn't see the video and their computer was asking if they started a process and for permission to continue installing a Flash Player update. I said, yes, this is a Flash based video you are about to look at, so go ahead and install the Flash Player update. Then there are people who work in a corporate setting where system administrators restrict certain Windows updates related to media. Other people never install any Windows updates and are running with expired anti-virus software.
I enjoy working with Flash and even occassionally doing some Web design, I'm just glad I don't have to deal with Web compatibility problems day in and day out.

  • Does ipad 3 support adobe flash and other various video formats?

does ipad 3 support adobe flash and other various video formats? Thanks/////!

Flash is not a video format. Flash is a platform that consists of a scripting language, and plug-in or application that presents a canvas and resources to run the scripts. It is possible for Flash to load video and play them in the canvas, but the video itself is a separate resource. Flash became a popular mechanism for video plaback mostly because the plugin was available for multiple browsers and the video codecs that Flash could load were consistent across multiple platforms, which made coding easier. It also made it simpler to add advertising overlays (especially before CSS3), and it was also a popular mechanism to distribute viruses.
In November of 2011, Adobe stopped development of and licensing of the use of Flash on mobile platforms, citing that HTML5 makes the primary uses for Flash obsolete. There is no version of Flash for iOS, or new or future versions of Android.
Adobe further indicated that they will be phasing out Flash plug-in support as well (such as the plugins used in Desktop web browsers), instead aiming to make Flash applications stand-along applications running on the desktop. No time table for that has been set, though they've just recently phased out Linux development. However, Flash is being actively developer for native applications and Adobe makes Flash Builder and AIR that allow you to make native applications for iOS and Android using the Flash development tools.
With regard to video formats... iOS natively supports MPEG-4 and various profiles thereof, and it supports the use of the HTML5 <video> tag to embed video in pages and in applications that leverage the WebKit environment to implement their UI. There are also apps that display other video formats.

  • Flash CS4: why movie clips are static when exporting to video formats ?

Does anyone know why the movie clips are non animated when I export my flash animation into a video format ?
Please see the next flash example I made: (4 KB)
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22717206/Flash/flash_movieclip.swf
And now see how it looks like once exported into video format: (160 KB)
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22717206/Flash/Video_movieclip.avi

You must need a suitable codec for that like DivX codec, it will also import the nested movieclip animations. otherwise  whatever you have on the main timeline is exported for avi. you will get the codec on the export settings for avi.

  • Exporting to Adobe Flash CS4, which format?

I have created a presentation using Adobe Flash CS4 and I plan to import a video I have made using FCP into my .fla. My presentation _is not_ going on the Internet, so file size _does not_ matter. I am putting the .swf on a USB thumb drive to be played directly on someone's computer, so once again my movie output file size should be of the highest quality possible.
In FCP, there are several formats and options to export my movie. Which do you recommend for integration with Flash?
    Thank you.

Umm....I assume you're exporting from FCP using QuickTime conversion,
so you can choose a QuickTime movie, H.264, and choose
    Frame Rate: Current
    Key Frames: Automatic
    Frame Reordering: Checked
    Quality: Best
    Encoding: Best
Data Rate: Automatic ... which then means you don't need to choose DVD/CDROM.
Give that a try and see how it looks.

  • Is there a way to have more than one video format in one sequence? (CS4)

I'm fairly new to Premiere Pro and I'd like to have segments of raw footage with different resolutions and frame rates in the same sequence so I can edit them together. Is there a way to do this in CS4? Thanks for your time.

Oh sorry, I'll go see if i can delete my other post. I realize now that what I'm looking for wouldn't really be possible, to create a sequence optimized for two different video formats, i.e. no red bars for either clip. I should have specified the first time I asked, my apologies. Thanks for the response!

  • Flash Video Playback problem in CS4/CS5

I need to put a Flash Video on my website, embedded in one of the existing html pages.
When my developer puts together a Flash Video in Flash CS4 or CS5 using ActionScript 3, the video does not play - t just keeps buffering (showing a striped appearance on the seek bar) and will not play unless I refresh the browser.
I've tried copying the code from the html page that came with the set of swf and flv files and that doesn't work either.
Just inserting the swf file into the web page like we used to do in CS3 and earlier does not wor.
I noticed that now with ActionScript 3 there is no ACRunActiveContent.js file.
Videos created using CS3 and ActionScript 2 seem to work just fine on web pages.
Wonder what i can do to use CS4 and CS5 videos and have them play on html pages?
    Any ideas anyone?

    Just to clarify:
Creating a Flash Video swf in CS5 (or even CS4) with ActionScript 3 requires the video to be embedded in the web page a bit differently than we were used to with CS3 and AS2.
While the newer versions of Flash do use a different method (using swfobject) when "Publishing" a Flash .swf, it is NOT required to do so. In fact neither swfobject nor ACRun... are required to display Flash of any version (AS1, 2, or 3) on a Web page. The simple single object method will work just fine:
    <object data="path_to_file/file.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="insert_width_of_movie" height="insert_height_of_movie">
      <param name="movie" value="path_to_file/file.swf">
      <param name="SomeOtherParam" value="ParamValue">
    </object>
Both ACRun and swfobject are "Flash Detection" methods used to display some alternative content if Flash is not detected... they are NOT needed to simply display the Flash .swf.
However, you can't use half ACRun code and half swfobject code....it must be either one or the other... and either would display AS3 players just fine.... as would the single object method.
    Best wishes,

  • Flash CS4 Video Poorer Quality Than Flash 8

I've upgraded to Flash CS4 from Flash 8 Pro and find the quality of the FLV video is noticeably poorer now for the same Adobe Media Encoder settings. In addition, the video encoded using CS4 won't play on my web server. If I export from Premier Pro to AVI and then convert to Flash using my older Flash 8 the quality is good and it plays fine on my website.
There is something strange about the FLV and SWF files created by CS4. The system that is running Flash 8 (WinXP 32bit) cannot play the CS4 created FLV files from the desktop even though they are supposed to be Flash 8 or later compatible. The system that has CS4 installed (Vista 64bit) can play both version of FLV.
It appears that the FLV created by AME is not really Flash 8 compatible. Perhaps this is connected in some way to the poorer quality I'm getting
Any help appreciated. I do need to solve this before my XP/Flash 8 system goes away.
    Peter Cassidy

It has always been this way, even in the Macromedia days. Older versions of Flash cannot open (or play, as you like it) content made in the newer versions. The .fla files are totally different. I suppose this goes too for the video encoded by different versions of Flash.
I wouldn't advise you to get rid of your old system. You may need it ....

  • Flash for Mac "Quicktime Video" format question

I used Mac to create a video in Flash 8.0. When I export the
clip, i used "Quicktime Video" format (not the "Quicktime" option).
But when I play the file in Windows, I couldn't get it to open or
convert to other formats such as .AVI. Is there a codec for
"Quicktime Video" to work under windows XP? Please help.
    Thanks.

Hi s2foster2, well I am certainly willing to try to help you, just don't know if I can be much help because I am not very
familiar with Mac. I was able to help a couple of people but that was due to them being able to send me screenshots.
I understand Flash Player but where programs, add ons, ActiveX Controls, even where the Flash files are located I don't know. I do know Mac has a Library:-)
Some new information has come to light tonight however, by one of our most helpful people on the forum. This was about
    the 3rd party content, etc.
I looked at your FF add ons and you have the SWF and it's correct. Do you know where the Flash files are and could you
post back all of the Flash files with version numbers? That will tell me if Flash Player is installed with the correct files.
We can have a go at this if you want. I can tell you what info I need as long as you know where to find it, because I don't.
    Let me know,
    thanks,
