Video formats on new iPod

I have a ton of movies that I have downloaded from the internet. They are all in .mov format.
Will they be playable on the new iPod?
If not, how can I convert them?

Some may but it is most likely that all will not. There are both constraints to file format and the possibility that that even when settings are correct, data headers may not be recognized properly if generated by 3rd party software. If you already have QTime Pro and a particular movie will not sync, simply open it in QT Pro and export using "Movie to iPod" pre-select option. Conversion speed will depend on a number of factors including specific CPU, size, data rate, and length of original, etc. HandBrake seems to create working .mp4 type files from DVD material but has a number of problems -- may change fps, may not display all segments of material contained on disc, queue option not yet functional, .m4v output not recognized, etc.

  • How do I watch video on the new iPod Nano?

Just recorded a few videos on my new iPod. I plug it into my Mac, iTunes comes up, but I see nowhere I can actually watch the video's I recorded. Am I missing something here?

The videos are on the ipod. You can navigate to them where they are saved on your iPod, or you can use the method outlined here:

  • Video out from new iPod to TV (not photos)

OK, let's get an answer to this once and for all.
Can you play your own video (not purchased music videos or TV shows or iPhotos) on a TV/Monitor using the new iPod?
This article http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300224 seems to say no.

Since that article was created on October 19, 2004 and the article indicates that it applies toiPod with color display (also known as iPod photo)I don't think it has anything to do with the new iPod that has video capabilities.
Maybe someone in the iPod > iPod with video Pre-release has an answer... or guess.

  • How do I format my new ipod for windows?

I already have itunes 7 on my computer. I have read that the ipods come formatted for a mac, and you need to format them for windows. I have read about opening the updater. The updated is not listed as a program on my computer. I also would not want to run the updater and accidentally update the firmware. Some posts have said you just need to plug in the new ipod and it works. I do not expect to be that lucky.

  • I can't put Flv and Wmv video formats on my ipod touch

I can't put Flv and Wmv video format's on my ipod touch..Please write me how to do that..Thank you.

You need the appropriate app such as Buzz Player.  You can also use a converter program such as Handbrake to convert them and them sync them to your iPod.

Mp4 is what you need, but honestly, you'd be much better of converting them yourself, as you never know what kind of quality you're going to get when you get them from somebody else, plus, you can make sure the sound is set correctly!

  • Video formats that iTunes/iPods will read?

Trying to figure out all the formats that both iTunes and iPods will read when used with Podcasting that involves video. I've tried .m4bm, which doesn't work when clicking on the small screen to get a bigger view. All I get is a single frame. I've also tried converting to .mov and that doesn't work on the iPod. Thanks in advance.

iTunes and iPod (Video) will read:
    .mov
    .mp4
    .m4v
Just to clarify, videos with an .mp4 or .m4v suffix are the same - both can be opened by QuickTime Player and iTunes. The only difference is that double-clicking a .mp4 will (by default) open it in QuickTime Player while double-clicking a .m4v will open in iTunes.
It's not possible to make assumptions about a .mov file and it isn't really a "video format". Think of it as an envelope that can contain many different types of media formats. For example a Windows Media Video track in a .mov container can be played by QuickTime Player (using a free plug-in) but this won't work on the iPod. If the .mov uses a component that's part of the standard QuickTime install then it should play on the iPod. But because of QuickTime's plug-in components it's not possible to assume that a .mov file that plays in QuickTime Player will play on an iPod.
    Hope this helps

  • Using old iPod Video games on new iPod Classic?

    Hi all-
I bought several games for my old iPod Video (don't know what generation it was but it was about two years old). These games include Mini Golf and Zuma. My old iPod broke, so I recently purchased an iPod Classic. When I connected it to sync to my computer, these two games and iQuiz did not show up in the games tab of the iPod sync list. I have read things about older iPod games not working on newer models, but these games are still available from the iTunes store and are said to be compatible with the Classic. So my questions are:
    1. Why do my older iPod games not work with my new iPod, though the same games are still available to be bought in iTunes and are said to be compatible?
    2. Is there something I could do to make them appear in the sync list?
    3. If I were to buy these games again from the iTunes store, would they work on my new iPod? Is there some kind of update that happened to them that render the old versions useless on my new iPod?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    1. Why do my older iPod games not work with my new iPod, though the same games are still available to be bought in iTunes and are said to be compatible?
The earlier releases of the games were not designed to be forward compatible to a newer iPod that hadn't been designed at the time they were written. The new versions currently available in the store are explicty designed to work on both the 5th & 6th gen. iPods and 3rd & 4th gen. nanos. They won't work on the iPod Touch or iPhone should you ever get one.
    2. Is there something I could do to make them appear in the sync list?
    No.
    3. If I were to buy these games again from the iTunes store, would they work on my new iPod?
    Yes.
Is there some kind of update that happened to them that render the old versions useless on my new iPod?
Yes, the iPod got updated making it incompatible will the older versions of the games.

  • Formatted my new iPod Nano 4Gb and my application can't find the Device ID

    Hi,
Just bought a new Nano 4Gb, updated it to 2006-06-28 (1.2) and of course it couldn't be recognized by Windows after that. Followed the instruction and formatted the Nano and made a Restore, worked fine!
Now to my problem, when using my application Anapod Explorer (from www.redchairsoftware.com) it can connect to the Nano but it says the iPod don't have any Device ID so it can't authenticate to the iPod...
Anyone more who is using this superb software?
It seems like if some information is missing in the iPod after the formatting of it...
    Please advice!
    Best Regards

    Additional Information:
Since some information seems to be missing on my iPod Nano 4Gb I compared the files with my iPod Video 60Gb.
    Comparing the directories: [driveletter]:\iPod_Control\Device
on my iPod Nano 4Gb and my iPod Video 60Gb
    iPod Nano 4Gb:
The file SysInfo is empty, containing no data when opened in Notepad.
    iPod Video 60Gb:
The file SysInfo is of 1KB and another file named "_unlocked" is present.
The information in the SysInfo file is:
    BoardHwName: iPod M25
    pszSerialNumber: JQ6040HFTXL
    ModelNumStr: MA147
    FirewireGuid: 0x000A270014E1CDBA

    osImageRev: 0x00000000 (0.0 0)
    iPodFamily: 0x00000000
    updaterFamily: 0x00000000
I have done the diagnstic test on the Nano and there are no errors and the iPod Nano is functional but I can only use iTunes to load it with music, I can't use the wonderful Anapod Explorer.
    Another thing:
When connecting my iPod Video to my computer it shows up with a drive looking like an MP3 player, when connecting my iPod Nano it shows up looking like an ordinary disc drive.
    Best Regards

  • Video transfer on new iPod

I am new to iTunes, how do I place videos on my iPod (I have a brand new 60 GB video iPod). All help is appreciated! Thank you!

What kind of videos? iTunes purchases, home movies?

  • How do i get videos onto the new ipod?

haven't been able to figure out how to get videos onto the ipod. tried to click and drag a home video into the video section but that didn't work. any help would be greatly appreciated.
also, where do i go to get an episode to download onto the ipod?

    Hi Sebastian,
Use iTunes to put videos onto your iPod. Make sure you have the newest version (by pressing Help, then selecting check for iTunes updates).
Once you are sure you have the newest version of iTunes, just press File -> add file to library, or drag your video file onto the iTunes library. Then all you need to do is update your iPod.

  • Video not working on new ipod nano (3rd gen)

Just bought a new generation ipod nano. When registering, I got a free movie short and a TV show episode. It did not seem to fully download on to Itunes. I have updated itunes to 7.5. I get an error message that says that I can't play video on my new ipod nano, which it clearly has the capability to do. Any suggestions? Not sure how to re-download freebie video and TV shows.

Does the video play in iTunes
if so right click and select "convert to ipod/iphone format"
if not click "store" in the bar and click "check for purchaces"
