Video formats supported by iPad

I cannot seem to sync .MOV video format files from my MacBook Air to my iPad - "video format not supported by iPad". My Canon camera saves .MOV format and so does my iPhone. Why then can they not sync and be played on iPad? Some forums suggest that the .MOV files must be tanslated into mp4 formats by paid for apps. Apple makes any kind of data transfer between Apple devices unneccessarily difficult. Or, am I missing something!?

iPad Supported Video Formats & Movie Formats

    •    MPEG-4 video up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats;

  • Video format supported - Nokia N95

    Hi,
Maybe I can be wrong, but I think that I have moved a MPEG video into Nokia N95 and it worked fine. However, I tried to do the same thing with another video file (mpeg) and it didnt work, Nokia N95 didnt recognize the file. I dont know if the reason was the lenght of the file 40mb.
I have some questions about it:
    1) Which video format is supported on N95?
    2) Is there a way to use any format (AVI, MPEG,..) without converting it?
    Thanks.

    Hi brjohnsmith
Unfortunately you are going to need to use a converter although there is a wide choice and you may find this post by el_loco whom is an authority on the subject of use:

  • Importing to iMovie and video formats supported

I'm new to iMovie, and I'm still running '08, and I don't know what video formats are supported. I ripped a home video DVD using HandBrake and found out that iMovie 08 doesn't support .m4v. I tried saving it as a Quicktime Movie file with Quicktime Pro, but iMovie still wouldn't import. Can anyone tell what I can do because I really want to edit my video and burn it on more discs for the rest of my family. So, any help on what formats are supported and what I can do to import my video to iMovie is what I would like help with, please. Thanks for any help.

Check out the iMovie 08 discussion group. You will find a lot of knowledgeable people there.
iMovie will import h.264 (m4v), but it will not import extra tracks such as closed caption tracks, tween tracks, chapter tracks, etc. Make sure handbrake is including these.
You can go into QuickTime Pro and remove extra tracks.
Sometimes, people have reported that simply renaming your m4v file as an .mov file will make it importable. Not sure if this will work in your case.

  • DW CC 2014 MPEG4 (.mp4), Ogg Vorbis (.ogv), and WebM (.webm) Video Formats Supported?

I am pretty sure the answer is no, but I need to verify whether or not these formats are supported in DW or must be hand-coded.  I know HTML5 and Flash video are supported.
    Thanks!
    Jerry

HTML5 video is MP4, OGG and WEBM.
And yes, the code for inserting HTML5 video is supported by DW CS6 and above.
Go to Insert menu, HTML5 Video.   Don't use Flash.  It's a dead web technology.

  • Video Formats Supported by Original iPhone (after 2.0.2 update)

Hello, I checked the technical specifications for original iPhone and iPhone 3G separately and I found the following difference.
    Original iPhone:
H.264 video, up to 768 Kbps, 320 by 240 pixels, 30 frames per second, Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP2
    iPhone 3G:
H.264 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Baseline Profile up to Level 3.0 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP495
So my question is that if I update the software of my original iPhone to version 2.0.2, does it update the supported video formats as well??
    Thanks.
    Raymond

I did a little digging around and found this at the AT&T site...
    http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-service/specials/en/2G3Gcomparison.pdf
It would appear that they both support the same throughput and Baseline Profile … with the updated software, I presume.
    Hope that helps.

  • Best video format for both iPad and Android

I've been testing DPS on both the iPad and Android and I'm having trouble converting video to a format that will run on both the iPad and Android devices. I don't have any problems with the iPad but nothing plays on Android so far.
If I test it with the DPS Tips app the video of the guy on the bicycle works on both the iPad and my Android device. Does anyone know what settings were used on that particular video?
    Tony

If you are looking for a quick, easy solution, download Handbrake.
Videos created with the iPhone/iPod preset work flawlessly on every device Ive ever tested. For tablets, the iPad preset works well but occassionally wont play on smaller Android devices.
I run all my videos through Handbrake before I add them to InDesign (or my websites)

  • Video's transfer to iPad

I want to transfer video's, from our holiday, to my iPad. How must i do that ?

Videos must be in an iPad compatible format.
    http://www.apple.com/ipad/specs/
Video formats supported: H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format.
If the videos are in your iTunes library and cannot be transferred to your iPad via the iTunes sync/transfer process - selected under the Movies tab for your iPad sync preferences with iTunes, iTunes includes an option to create an iPad compatible version for an existing video that is not in an iPad compatible format. Select the video and at the iTunes menu bar go to Advanced and select Create Apple TV or iPad version. This will create a copy of the existing video. Select the copy now in an iPad compatible version under the Movies tab for your iPad sync preferences followed by a sync.

  • Why won't some photos or videos sync to my iPad when they work fine with iPhoto and iTunes?

Why won't some photos or videos sync to my iPad when they work fine with iPhoto and iTunes? Other photos taken with same camera sync fine from iPhoto while certain events are inexplicably incompatible. I've recently foundvthecsame occurrence with certain mp3s and videos from iTunes.

For photos try deleting the photo cache from your computer and then re-try the photo sync and see if they then copy over - the location of the cache, and how to delete it, is on this page http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1314
Not all video formats that work in iTunes are compatible with the iPad - the supported formats are (from http://www.apple.com/ipad/specs/) :
Video formats supported: H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format
Have you tried Advanced > Create iPad Version and then sync those versions to the iPad
The iPad's supported audio formats are :
HE-AAC (V1 and V2), AAC (8 to 320 Kbps), Protected AAC (from iTunes Store), MP3 (8 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Audible (formats 2, 3, and 4, Audible Enhanced Audio, AAX, and AAX+), Apple Lossless, AIFF, and WAV
