Video formats that iTunes/iPods will read?

Trying to figure out all the formats that both iTunes and iPods will read when used with Podcasting that involves video. I've tried .m4bm, which doesn't work when clicking on the small screen to get a bigger view. All I get is a single frame. I've also tried converting to .mov and that doesn't work on the iPod. Thanks in advance.

.m4v
Just to clarify, videos with an .mp4 or .m4v suffix are the same - both can be opened by QuickTime Player and iTunes. The only difference is that double-clicking a .mp4 will (by default) open it in QuickTime Player while double-clicking a .m4v will open in iTunes.
It's not possible to make assumptions about a .mov file and it isn't really a "video format". Think of it as an envelope that can contain many different types of media formats. For example a Windows Media Video track in a .mov container can be played by QuickTime Player (using a free plug-in) but this won't work on the iPod. If the .mov uses a component that's part of the standard QuickTime install then it should play on the iPod. But because of QuickTime's plug-in components it's not possible to assume that a .mov file that plays in QuickTime Player will play on an iPod.

It sounds like the album metadata is incorrect, or differs from song to song in iTunes. Albums with various artists will play properly assuming all the songs are tagged with the same identical album name, as well as the track number. For the Halo 2 Soundtrack, metadata should look like this:
Song: <Song Title>
Artist: <Song Artist>
Album: Halo 2, Vol. 1 (Original Soundtrack)
Genre: Soundtrack
I had a similar problem with my imported Cowboy Bebop albums and the mixture of artists/album names. Once I adjusted the metadata, all of them play in the correct order just by selecting the Album from the available list or in Coverflow.

Why is my iPod touch prompting me to restore to the factory settings? Some of my apps have stopped responding. Is this why? I plugged my iPod touch onto my iTunes account and a message popped up saying that iTunes couldn't read the iPod

I plugged up my iPod touch to my iTunes library and it said that it couldnt recognize the iPod and the message told me to restore my iPod? Why would it prompt me to restore the factory settings? Also if I restore the iPod will it erase all of my music even though my music is in my library?

I also put all of my apps in the utility folders, would this have anything to do with my iPod needing to be restored?

Becasue something got corrupted on the iPod. It happens sometimes. Just restore the iPod to factory settings/new iPod and then try restoring from your backup.

Need help with video uploading to itunes & ipod

i'm new to ipod video. i have 1 music video which i just converted from wmv format > mpeg-4 format. when i dragged the mpeg-4 format to itunes, nothing happened. am i doing this incorrectly? how is the uploading work exactly? i read some of the previous posts but i'm still clueless.

dude. some time itunes just doesnt support drag and drop techniques . just try the simple copy and paste(ctrl(c+v)). if that file is gonna be played on the ipod u get a small tab box in the itunes that the file which u r copying is being processed .
even if this technique doesnt work , then thats a faulty format . u can try another video converter . say videora or Aplus video converter . u will find them in www.download.com

After converted, what video formats work w/ ipod?

i down loaded some video's from limewire and put them on itunes. after converting all the videos so they were ipod compadable,the ones that were converted had NO sound and the original unconverted videos had sound.so,what video formats,downloaded from limewire,(ex. mp3, mp4...) work w/ my ipod and itunes after bieng converted so they have sound when i listen/view to them on my ipod.

Mp4 is what you need, but honestly, you'd be much better of converting them yourself, as you never know what kind of quality you're going to get when you get them from somebody else, plus, you can make sure the sound is set correctly!

Did something change with the video formats in iTunes 10.5?

Since updating to iTunes 10.5, I've found that I can't sync any videos (whether they be TV Shows, Films or Video Podcasts) to my iPod. I've tried various different methods of trying to fix this but every time I do I get given the error message "Some of the videos in your iTunes library, including the video "xxxxx", were not copied to the iPod "xxxxx" because they cannot be played on this iPod."
Now, any of the videos added prior to iTunes 10.5 still work and I can sync them to my iPod without a problem and still play them from there, but anything since then it's just been throwing out the error. I have a 16GB iPod Nano with the latest software version (1.0.2), running off Windows XP SP3, and all Apple software I use is up-to-date.
Please can anyone give me any hints or help in solving this problem?

I think you do not understand, this is all in iTunes under windows.

As you can see after the video has been transferred the artwork tab and the artwork it self disappears.

You need the appropriate app such as Buzz Player. You can also use a converter program such as Handbrake to convert them and them sync them to your iPod.

i need serious help out here. i got ipod and took 45 mins to rip duhast.mpeg video to ipod compatible format through itunes...can someone tell me how i can convert to ipod format in a much quicker way...secondly even though it took 45 mins to convert to ipod format, when i tried listening to the video on ipod, all i could see as video without sound...this experience has left me frustrated...

I simply called up HK Apple helpline no. 800 908 988 and talked to thier tech support person.
solution is finally here... they suggested me to download convert s/w from www.jodix.com
IT WORKS !!!! thank gosh... i dont need to depend on stupid itunes to convert...and worst it takes ages to convert later on to find some or other tech glitches i hope apple is reading this post and do something about itunes !!

When I choose unsupported video format it tells nothing and just ignore my request. I spent 2 hours struggling with that you call "user friendly" interface. Completely disappointed...

You have to convert them to MPEG-4 files to play them back to your iPod. I suggest using Videora iPod Converter to re-encode your video files to MPEG4

DVD-R that no Mac will read

I have an 8x DVD-R that I recorded from broadcast on a DVD recorder. It plays back fine on the machine that recorded it. DVD-RAM disks recorded on that recorder read OK on my MacBook Pro (late 2008 17"), but the DVD-R will not read on any of: the macbook Pro; a 2009 Mac Mini; or a 2009 white MacBook. All of them treat the disk as unrecorded.
Any ideas?

I would bet that the reason its showing as blank is because the dvd-recorder records this in a proprietary format that MBP is not legally aloud to be compatible with. I might and definitely could be wrong but that would be my guess. Try it on other computers, including windows if you can, and other devices...
then look up the specs of the DVD-Recorder device to see what it records in, then google it to see if its compatible with computers

Video format that supports iTunes- appleTV streaming AND DLNA

I have both DLNA support and an Apple TV. I've been converting my dvds to mp4 so I can stream via iTunes to my TV,,Unfortunately mp4 is not compatible with DLNA (mpeg2). Is there a video/audio format, or a software solution, that will work? Of course the simple solution would be for Itunes to support mpeg-2 formation...Any insight?

H.264 video up to 1080p, 30 frames per second, High or Main Profile level 4.0 or lower, Baseline profile level 3.0 or lower with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats
Try using things like MPEG Streamclip, which will enable you to configure a profile

Multiple video format, 1 iTunes entry

I have searched for this, and , can't seem t find an answer.
I have multiple apple devices, and, like to rip my Blu-ray Discs to watch on these devices. I have an Apple TV , iPad, iPad mini and iPod touch.
This makes for a messy iTunes library though. Because (using the movie batman as an example) in my iTunes library, I have the same movie, multiple times because I encoded it for several devices. It will be listen something like this:
Batman (iPad)
Batman (AppleTV)
Batman (iPod Touch)
So, my question is, is there a particular naming convention I can use where I can rip 3 different formats and all three versions will roll up into one entry in iTunes where iTunes and my devices will be smart enough to use the correct file in different situations??
Any amount of help I can get on this would be greatly appreciated :)

Me too, all my movies are on Ext HDD with an alias pointing to them from the movies folder in my home directory but in itunes i do not know how to add any of them.
The movies are in avi format DivX and Xvid.
Any ideas?
