Video frames to layers

I have imported a video that I want to draw over.  I click on a frame I want to draw on but it is not selected in the layers, is there a way to do this or a shortcut.  Really frustrating to click on layer 25 in the timeline, then have to re click the same layer in the layers palette to draw on it.  To do this on 60f sequences gets very tedious.
Any advice would be appreciated.

I cannot import video files.

  • Error message "could not complete the video frames to layers command because dynamiclink is not avai

So I decided to try my hand at making gifs and so I attempted to upload a video by going to file -> import -> video frames to layers. Before even letting my pick my video it comes up with an error message saying "could not complete the video frames to layers command because dynamiclink is not availible." I then tried file -> open -> and then selected the video and no matter what file type or size I chose I ended up with the same error message.
I looked this problem up and attempted some of the solutions but to no avail. I tried clearing my preferences and restarting photoshop many times in addition to restarting my computer. I also checked to make sure it wasn't being blocked by any firewalls and it wasn't. My opperating system is Windows 7 and I'm using photoshop cs6. I've looked everywhere for an answer to this problem so if anyone is able to help me solve this problem I'd be much obliged.

You see my C:\ drive is quite small as it's a SSD, so I made Adobe install programs on my E:\ drive too, however this was the main cause for Adobe not to function.
After adjusting the settings to install everything back to my C:\ drive, it fixed my issue above and allowed me to run the 64bit version.

  • "Could not complete the Video Frames to Layers command because the movie file could not be opened."

    I'm using Photoshop CS5 extended.
I've been using that to make gifs. It was fine when I import video frams into layers with the video formats of .mov or .avi. But After I installed OSX 10.6.8, this message comes up everytime I want to import videos: "Could not complete the Video Frames to Layers command because the movie file could not be opened."
So I installed my old OS back which is 10.6.3 but the problem is still there.
May I know what to do to solve this problem because all along I've been fine with making gifs and importing videos until now.
    Please help, thank you.

The computer deities may be trying to say something to you.  GIF is not a video format.
Are you opening video with the same codec that was successfully opened before?

  • Could not complete the video frames to layers command because the file could not be opened

I recently learned to make gif images using KMPlayer and my Photoshop CS6, but today I hit a snag that I can't seem to get around. Normally I capture a scene from a show DVD I have in KMPlayer and then import the video frames into layers/frames in photoshop with no problem. Well today I went to do that, and captured the scene with what seemed like no problem (the small captured scene saved with no problem) but when I went to CS6 to import the video into layers, I got the error message "Could not complete the video frames to layers command because the file could not be opened". At first I thought it was the KMPlayer saving the files wrong, so I retried and got the same error message. Irestored the players settings back to a default and the file still wouldn't open in photoshop, and then I even tried uninstalling/reinstalling the player trying to get it to work, and then I thought it must be photoshop, because even scenes I had captured at an earlier day that worked perfectly fine when importing would not open.
What could possibly be causing this problem to occur. Should I uninstall/reinstall photoshop and see if that works, or am I doing something wrong?
The files I'm trying to import are AVIs as always, I even tried to capture scenes in other formats to no avail. What could be causing the problem?

I uninstalled an reinstalled photoshop totally and it didn't fix the problem either. I made a post on the KMPlayer's forum hoping for an answer but I haven't recieved one yet. I'm starting to think it's the kmplayer having a problem capturing, since I've started getting the error "could not import the file to layers because the file has no layers" sometimes in photoshop, but I'm still trying to work around in photoshop to see if the problem came from there.

  • I can't import video frames to layers in Photoshop CS4

I just bought a Macbook Pro, OS X 10.8.4 and installed Photoshop CS4 on it, but when I select import video frames to layers and search for a video, they appear but I can't select any videos. I have the latest version of Quicktime and the videos play fine. I can still use photoshop with photos so it seems like it's just this one function that isn't working. It works on my sister's older Macbook pro though (she hasn't got Mountain Lion though, it's snow leopard OS X 10.6.8), and the only time it didn't work was when there wasn't enough space on the computer but I have over 670GB of available space.

How can I tell if I am using QT X or QT 7? Do you have any idea how I could fix this issue?
Edit: I downloaded QT 7 and changed it to my default player and restarted my computer. I don't know if this is what I was supposed to do, but the issue is still unresolved. Just wondering, why does it make a difference if it's QT 7 or X? I'm sorry, I really don't know much about these things as I am relatively new to photoshop

  • Photoshop CS3 crashes when importing video frames to layers.

This is perhaps not the correct place to post this, but I am new to the forums, as you can see.
I saw that there was a post about this sometime last year, and I tried all the methods offered to fix the problem, but none helped.
Each time I make an attempt to import video frames to layers, I get as far as the "select range to import" screen, and then when I select the range and click ok, it says "Adobe Photoshop has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly." And then it closes.
My operating system is Windows XP, the photoshop type I use is CS3 as I mentioned before, and I have installed Quicktime 7.3.5.
I checked one of the files I tried to use with the Mediainfo program as suggested, and got the following:
    Format: MPEG-4
    Format profile: Quicktime
    Codec ID: qt
    File size: 176 MiB
    Duration: 18mn 33s
Overall bit rate: 1 327 Kbps
    Writing application: Lavf53.24.2
Hopefully this is enough information for someone out there to help me, because I haven't the slightest idea how to fix it. Thank you in advance.

Convert the file in ffmpeg/ MPEGStreamclip or another tool or export it from Quicktime Pro using anotehr CoDec. PS just sucks at dealing with these compressed files and using such an old version doesn't help with contemporary digital video from a camera...

  • Error Importing Video Frames to Layers in Photoshop CC

I'm trying to import video frames to layers in Photoshop CC, the most recent edition. I'm using a Mac OS X Maverick version 10.9.2.
The video I'm working with is a .mov file with the following codecs: Timecode, Linear PCM, CEA 708, Apple ProRes 422 (HQ).
When I import frames to layers, the window is black. *Note: The audio works here, picture does not appear.
When I select OK, the layers are transparent.
This issue is specific to Photoshop CC. I tested the same .mov file with the same codecs in the most recent edition of Photoshop CS6, and import video frames to layers worked successfully.
I also tested the same .mov file using another user's computer and their edition of Photoshop CC, and experienced the same issue - black screen, transparent frames.
This leads me to believe it is an issue specific to the Photoshop CC software.
Is there a fix for this, or do you have recommendations on ways to convert the .mov file so it's viewable in Photoshop CC?
    Thank you for your help.

  • Photoshop Video Frames to Layers Cripples Premiere

    Hey folks,
I've been using Premiere and AE with dynamic link for some time now to make my videos. Up until this past week, the playback of Linked Comps from AE in Premiere was buttery smooth. I could playback on my Mac 2013 Retina (With CS6) at full quality without stuttering. Rendering was also extremely quick even when linked comps had lots of effects applied to them.
Fast forward to last week, and now when playing back Linked Comps from AE in Premiere, they stutter and skip frames in Premiere's source window and take forever to render in the Timeline.
I tried speaking to Adobe for hours to try to solve the problem to no avail, until I realized...up until just last week, I had never before used Photoshop's File>Import>Video Frames to Layers to create animated gifs from my exported videos.
I am no convinced that Photoshop is somehow at fault in causing this dramatic loss of performance between AE and Premiere. This is a serious bug. I hope it can be fixed somehow!

  • Import video frames to layers set as Quicktime files (PS5)

For some reason, suddenly when I import video frames to layers, it is now set as Quicktime files that can only be opened (AVI,MPEG etc) and won't pick up MMV files at all. I used to make a lot of gifs fine with WMV files (thats the only format Photoshop PS5 would let me open for years), now it is set up as Quicktime files all of a sudden. It only opens AVI files as well, other video formats pop up with blank screens and then go transparent. Is there any way I can fix this? I'd like to be able to make gifs with WMV files again.
Is there some way you can open MP4 files onto Photoshop CS5 as well? Converting Youtube vids to WMV is quite a process.
I hope this question makes sense!

Something messed with your system's CoDecs - some Windows Update, anotehr app installed, a CoDec pack, whatever. Such stuff is usualyll impossible to recover short of reinstalling the whole system and you're FUBARD - even if you uninstalled the offending app, the crookedness would remain in place.

  • Photoshop won't let me convert video frames to layers

I'm trying to make gifs, and I was able to do this last night. Photoshop was converting the video frames to layers just fine. However, I think I might have accidentally done something to photoshop because right after, I could convert my video frames to layers anymore. The video clips were all screen recording from quicktime, by the way. I waited until the next day and decided to see if it would work (it didn't). So then I did a software update, thinking that maybe quicktime needed to update. But that didn't work either. When I force quit photoshop and re-open it, it "converts" the video frames to layer, but only one frame actually appears and the rest are blank. When I delete that and try to re-convert the video frames to layers, this pops up:
I tried converting the video to an mp4, and the above message still popped up. How do I fix this back to the way it was when it was working!?

Where is reset motion what was going on that made you want to click on reset motion.  What did you use to identify a video file to Photoshop to do something to it? We can not help if you can not describe what you did. What Photoshop step is that pop-up message the end result of?

  • Problems with importing video frames to layers

Whenever I try to import video frames to layers (File > Import > Video Frames to Layers), the little preview box of the video doesn't show up, and when I click "Okay" it only creates a bunch of solid black layers. I'm using .avi videos, which should be compatible. Can anyone help me out? :/

Also, you can make sure your system is 64 bit capable by:
Open Performance Information and Tools by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Performance Information and Tools.
    Click View and print details.
In the System section, you can see what type of operating system you're currently running under System type. Under 64-bit capable, you can see whether you can run a 64-bit version of Windows. (If your computer is already running a 64-bit version of Windows, you won't see the 64-bit capable listing.)
