Video freezing. slow video loading, blue lines...

Well, I installed Arch (x86_64) recently and followed the beginner's guide which suggested that i install 'xf86-video-ati' for my ATI video card. I have a Radeon HD 4350 video card. After installing flash, I went to youtube and the videos take longer to load than on my prior ubuntu system, and sometimes the it will freeze while the audio keeps going. Although once it loads, there is no lag so it's not internet connection. (I downloaded a 100mb file in a couple minutes) When I click on full screen, it won't listen and gives me a flicker on the screen. I have to try it a few times to get my full screen working. And I'm getting these weird thin blue lines going through my downloads window for firefox.
I'm wondering if I have to download the proprietary driver at the ATI website. I did find a driver for the Radeon HD 4300 Series. Any suggestions/help would be appreciated!
FYI, I installed WMFS2

You probably shouldn't be using hardware acceleration in Flash with open source drivers (xf86-video-ati).

  • Videos are SLOW to load

I just downloaded the most recent version of safari (beta 3) and videos posted on websites are still EXTREMELY slow to load. Are there any updates that would help make the videos load quicker or is it caused by limited space on the hard drive? Any comments/answers would be helpful. Thanks!

Were you able to confirm any suspicions the browser could be at fault
(or not) by trying to download the same video content through a different
browser with current proper plugins, and etc?
The speed of the internet connection is among prime things to confirm
and consider when awaiting slow internet content downloads. Also, all
system performance can be affected by insufficient hard drive freespace
or flex-space for the applications and for use as virtual memory.
The actual download speed of a file may vary through a combination of
several influences or conditions within and from without the computer.

  • Why are YouTube videos so slow to load?

    Hi Gang,
I've been greatly enjoying the Pismo I totally revamped with help from JPL and Cornelius. It's now faster than my G4 12". But Youtube videos are painfully slow to load. If they finally do load, the motion is usually quite jerky and out of sync. Just tried three different videos on the Salon site and none of them would load. This is not the case with other videos (QuickTime or RealPlayer). Is this a hardware, software or site problem, and is there anything I can do about it? Thanks for any insight you can give.

    GB:
I am able to watch streaming video on my Pismo, but I can't be doing much else on the computer. However, I don't do YouTube and I don't know how that will work. But I do watch news clips or streaming video from CNN, for example. I watch it the default size, and it is fine, with a little problem with video/sound synchronization. Streaming video works a lot better for me with Real Play, though. Almost perfect even with their max size. That is true even on my wife's Pismo with a regular 500 MHz processor and 640 MB of RAM.
I agree with Jon and jpl on the video card limitation. To the best of my knowledge it can not be upgraded.
    Cheers

  • Embedded video causes slow page load

    Hi,
I recently noticed that any flash content webpage loads real slow in Firefox or Safari. It takes about 6 seconds for a webpage to load if there is a little YouTube window on it. In those 6 seconds the browser is unresponsive.
Is there anything I can do to speed this up?
    Thanks

I have cleared my cache in Safari and Firefox - nothing changed.
I installed Flash 10.1 RC - no difference
I installed the Flash blocking addons - when I then click on the video window it takes the same amount as before to load (not surprising). But why is so slow to begin with when it comes to YouTube embedded content?
here is the website of our kids soccer club - it takes 8 seconds for the World Cup YouTube content to be available - playback is fine, but until it loads it takes 8 seconds - and for that time the browser is unresponsive (spinning wheel)
I have 256MB VRAM on the card (Radeon 9800 Pro) and otherwise 4GB RAM!
    Thanks

  • Why is video so slow to load

Why is video taking so long to load on my desktop Mac? I just switched from Windows

    What speeds are you getting?

  • Youtube videos VERY slow to load

Has any one else out there had a problem with getting youtube videos to load. My desktop downloads youtube videos in Miliseconds, while the apple tv takes two minutes to download the same thing! We are all wired up, so no wireless problems. Podcasts and movies stream very quickly, just a problem with youtube. Does any one know if the videos are directly downloaded from youtube or do they go through apple servers of some type? I am flustered. Already returned one unit to the store for an exchange.
    HELP!

I worked with fuji master on this issue and have resolved it, sort of... Fuji's original 160GB AppleTV exhibited the symptom he described on several different WAN connections, although all were Portland Comcast.
Surprisingly, every 160GB (shipped with take 2) unit we tried had the same symptom but the 40GB models operated perfectly (on the same LAN and WAN). The 40GB was running the same version of the take 2 firmware as the 160GBs and all had been restored prior to testing. I am at a loss to explain how this could be a hardware-specific issue with YouTube, but my best guess is that some incompatibility existed between 160GB AppleTVs and YouTube.
Today, we configured and tested a new 160GB AppleTV (a firmware update occurred since previous testing) on the same network and YouTube loaded and operated normally.

  • VC3 Video Freezes During Video Effects

I can use the same video effect numerious times in the same project, but sometimes during playback (review and publish) the "A" video will freeze when the transition starts, then after the effect is over video "B" plays normally.
I've tried different effects, deleted the action and tried recreating it but everytime the same action freezes no matter what effect is selected.

Have you checked to see if there's an updated driver for your webcam from Asus?
Do the specs on your built in webcam say it's supposed to do HD?
Any chance you may have or be able to borrow an external USB webcam to plug in to a USB port and try as a troubleshooting step?
The symptoms you're experiencing seem strange and I'm trying to come up with a way to pin down where the problem actually lies.

  • Macbook on Snow Leopard Sleep freeze, slow boot time, blue screen, ... etc.

The macbook has the following problems:
    1. When closing the lid or pressing the power button the computer freezes, the fans start spinning fast it stays like that until it drains the battery. This happens every time.
    2. Start-up times are very long, like 3 or 4 minutes. This also happens every time.
    3. Now after a fresh snow leopard install it doesn't even start up completely, as it stays with the blue background and I can hear the music of the introductory animation.
The macbook worked ok with the factory installed Tiger. The SL DVD is OK, as its installation has been tested on another Mac. The machine's advanced hardware test passed successfully. Resetting Pram and similar actions were unsuccessful as solving the problem.
I don't know what else to do... please help.

So mine started doing some of the same things. It freezes when it goes into sleep mode. Then it starts to get really really hot and the drive starts spinning fast. It also takes a very long time to boot up. And it's unresponsive sometimes. I've wiped the drive and reinstalled a few times, but it's still like that. I don't know what's wrong.

  • Blue lines on video capture

I am capturing video from Panasonic Mini DV Model PV - GS90P it was shot on a Panasonic 3 CCD Leica Dicomar I am using a Fire Wire. I have already captured one tape and it worked fine. It will play the video but there are thick blue lines across the screen. Anybody ever had that problem?

The Dicomar is a lens, not a camcorder. What camcorder was it?
Have you ever captured other video from your PVGS90P? Was that video ok?
Are the blue lines steady, or do they move around? Are they through the entire video or just part of it? I would suspect the tape or some incompatibility between the recording made on the shooting cam and the playback on your GS90P. This can happen if the heads on one or the other cam are out of alignment, dirty, etc.
What versions of FCE and QT do you have on your MacBookPro? How much RAM, etc?

  • Vertical Blue Lines - Please help!!

I've got a G5 with 2 30" Cinema Screens. On my main screen there are often vertical blue lines that appear. I was told that this might be a graphics card issue and that I should unplug one of the screens. I've done that & if anything the blue lines are worse...
Having done a search I've found some archived questions but they don't have any solved answers. Is my screen totally bust & needing to go back to apple or can I change some settings here?

Could still very well be your video card. It probably has some bit addressing issues. Try swapping video cards with a friend or have the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store use a good video card to diagnose the problem. If the blue lines disappear, replace the video card.
If the blue lines still appear on your displays, then run Apple Hardware Test and check for any error codes. Write down any error codes and bring them to your local Apple Store. Either way, you are looking at a display replacement and/or repair.

  • Slow Media Loading, Video iChat Fails, iTunes Choppy

Internet sites are reluctant to load and I usually have to click the refresh button 3-4 times before a given webpage will load (sometimes not even entirely: question marks in place of pictures).
Videos freeze up or just continually try to load but nothing ever happens.
iTunes is visually choppy when I open it and slow to load and sometimes my fan runs without anything really happening.
I've cleared my cache and that has had no effect. I've also checked my Activity Monitor and there are some minor red spikes with occasional medium sized ones. I don't see anything out of the ordinary running.
My music folder is 23 GB.
    My disc space says:
    51.72 GB Utilized
    22.49 GB Space Free
Basically everything is tremendously slow and I'm wondering what it could be, and more importantly: What should I do?
    Thanks

I don't have a solution for you, but maybe some suggestions for the causes.
If you're having problems loading a webpage, odds are it's the network and not your computer. Can other computers (friends, another you own, ipod) load web pages on that network without a hitch? If other computers can it's more likely a problem with how you setup the network than the computer being faulty.
iTunes: What else are you running while the visualizer is being choppy? I'd check activity monitor regularly when it gets slow and see what's using the most under the CPU column.
Is the video you're refering to that freezes up or is choppy streaming video from the web or video on your hard drive, or a DVD. If it's streaming video, see the first point i made. If its on your HD it could you have the wrong codecs installed or something of that nature. My QT is choppy with everything I play. WIthout really wanting to see what codecs I'm missing I've just downloaded VLC and run everything on that. No choppy anymore.
I don't know much else about how things work. And sorry if I'm giving you dumb answers but it's hard to tell how much knowledge people have, so maybe my little is more than theirs. Hope that helped.

  • HELP! my ipod has a thin blue line across the screen whenever i play videos

i got my ipod a day ago. i havent dropped it or anything and when i play a video there is a thin, blue, vertical line on my screen. is it broken or what!?

It could be a problem with the way the videos were encoded. Where did you get them from or did you encode them yourself.
If you encoded them yourself, what program did you use?
