Video from SDHC to Ext HD to be used on a PC

Can someone tell me the best way to pull HD video off of a SDHC card to an External HD (using a MAC) that can then be used by a PC?
I know there is an easy answer... Do i just need to use a FAT32 external hardrive?
Oh... and I am most likely going to be transfering files larger than 4GBs

If the file sizes will be larger than 4gb, you should use a drive that has been formatted using the NTFS scheme. You can download and install this utility ( http://macntfs-3g.blogspot.com/ ) on your Mac to enable it to read/write to NTFS formatted disks.

Select the iTunes library on your computer from the Sources menu in Apple TV and then you can stream. If streaming is not smooth and your router has a multicast setting, try increasing the multicast bit rate. To return to the synced content on your Apple TV, select the Apple TV logo at the top of the Sources menu.

How do I upload my video from my camcorder to my MAC without using firewire?

My mac was purchase in 2009 and I have imovie '09 installed. It has a mini DVI port but no firewire port. Please tell me there is a way to get video from a camcorder to imovie? Right now I have a Sony DV camcorder but I'm willing to purchase a new camcorder that is compatible if necessary. Help!

If you want to use your DV camcorder you need firewire. If you have tapes that you would like to import to iMovie, your best bet is to find a friend with an iMac that will let you capture to an external hard disk. Once the movies are on a hard drive, you can use USB. You only need Firewire when capturing off tape. Another option would be to hire a service that will put your tapes on a hard drive. You can Goole for these.
If you would consider a new camera, get a camcorder that shoots AVCHD or h.264 or iFrame. These attach via USB. If you get a camcorder that uses an SDHC or SDXC card, you can import from a USB card reader.

Can I view a video from my macbook pro on my TV using apple TV while doing something else on the laptop desktop? I.E. watch a video on the tv, while searching the web on the laptop screen?

First off, I just want to clarify that I know how to view my macbook screen, videos, music, photos etc. through the apple tv connected to my hdtv. What I'm trying to do is use it like a second monitor. For example, I'd like to watch a video from the web through the apple tv on the hdtv screen, while simultaneously able to search and use the laptop like I normally would. I know there are two desktops with Mountain Lion, but I haven't been able to figure out how to link one to the apple tv and leave the other as the macbook. I know I've done this before when I had a macbook 13" and a cable connector, there was a setting in system preferences to view one screen (tv) with a video, and then still have the macbook screen free to search for files, the web, etc.... This is different from mirroring, but I haven't located this setting on the new macbook yet.
Ideally I'd like to be able to use my hdtv as a second monitor so I can be sorting and organizing photo files on the macbook, while viewing full size high resolution images on the TV screen. I've got a ton of photographs, close to a personal library you could ask me for a type of photo and I've probably got it, but there is a decent amount of extras, doubles, and just stuff I don't need. This would really help me get organized and allow me to share my work a little bit more efficiently.
I appreciate any insights and hope I can return the favor.

I do not know how to do this with an Apple TV (I don't have one), but as far as I know Apple TV only does mirroring.
If you have an HDMI cable long enough to reach your TV from where you sit, then it's easy. The TV could be set up in Extended Desktop mode (mirroring off) as if it was simply another computer monitor, and then you could just drag windows to it. If you have the Displays icon in your menu bar, that's where the setting is, or if the icon is not there, then the setting is in the Displays system preference. But again, that's for conventionally connected monitors, not Apple TV. If you don't have an HDMI cable and wanted a long one that's affordable you can get those at monoprice.com.
The answer we are still waiting for is if anyone knows if Apple TV can be used in extended desktop (non-mirroring) mode.

How do I download a 250mb video from Dropbox to iPad? For offline use.

I have uploaded a large video I need to show someone, offline. It's on Dropbox, but I don't see a means to download it, not like I can with the photos.
Also - how do I download multiple photos from dropbox, as when i select lots, there is no option to move/download.

If the video is in Dropbox, simply 'Favorite' the video from within the Dropbox app. Doing so kicks off a download to the iPad in the background. To check the status of the download, click on 'Favorites' and it will show you the downloaded thus far. Once it's complete, yu can play the video from within Dropbox even when offline.
As for photos, not sure there is a way to do that directly from the Dropbox app.

Downloading video from sdhc card takes long time in imovie

I have a 3 month old 1mac running mountain Lion...When I try to import a 3 minit long video useing a sdhc card it take about 20 to 30 minits.. Sometimes it just quits... as if its timed out what am I doing wrong?

How do I capture video from canon d5 mark II to fcp using usb connection

I have always imported video to fcp via firewire using my tape cameras but soon I will have to make the jump to non linear cameras eventually as tape becomes obsolete. I haven't got a non linear camera but would like to know if there's a simple way to upload video footage with a camera like the 5d or similar non linear video cameras. Also, I'd like to know if it is possible to select the in and out points before importing like you do with tape devices so that you don't have to download all the footage shot. Thanks for any advice.

Attach camera via USB or put card in card reader.
Go to FCP, and go to the Log and TRANSFER window.
If FCP recognizes the card, you will see your clips listed on the left.
You can view them, set Ins and Outs, and import just what you want.
Once you choose a section of video and import it, FCP converts (transcodes) from its original camera format to Apple ProRes422 - a more edit friendly video file.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean, but I'll give a few examples of what I think you might be looking for.
I am running iOS 5 on my iPad and Pages '08 on my iMac.
1. I created a Pages file on my iPad and emailed it to me by selecting the wrench --> share and print -->email document -->chose Pages as the format. I collected the file from my email and attempted to open it in Pages '08. The message I received was that I needed a newer version of Pages. True enough, but I'm sure that iWork '12 will come out this summer so I'll hold off on that purchase. What I did to solve this problem was to send the file in Word format instead. When I opened it with Pages '08, I had to tweak the format a bit, but it worked. Perhaps your trouble is that you need to upgrade. You could also send the file in PDF format.
2. I created a file in Pages '08 and sent it as an attatchment by email to my iPad. I collected the file from my email on the iPad, then clicked on the attatchment. It opened in Pages for iPad with no problem. If this is the senario you are having trouble with, then I suggest you first send a test file, and if that doesn't work, make sure all your files are backed up then delete the app and reinstall it. WARNING!!! when you delete the app, all files will be deleted as well. Make sure you have current and accurate backups that you can access before taking this step. Files saved in iTunes may not be accessable other than to the iPad. Make sure you can open the files on your computer BEFORE taking this action.

HT201343 I am trying to stream a video from U-tube on to my TV using my apply T.V. The airplay icon appears on my i-tunes but not on u-tube. It does stream on to my T.V using i-tunes so I take it it does have airplay, but does not appear n display menu. H

Airplay works on I-tunes but not on sites where you might want to stream, such as U-tube. It does not appear on my display menu settings, but as i-tunes as the icon I am thinking the computer must have the capability. Can anyone help, how to I turn airplay on so I can stream using my apple TV. I am sure as I-tune is working I have everything set up right.

Mirroring requires OSX 10.8 or higher.
Just use the YouTube app on the ATV.

IPhoto does not import video from iPhone 4

We've been battling this problem for a while now. We have two iPhone 4's and any time we import photos to iPhoto, we have to select photos individually, making sure to NOT select any videos taken with the iPhone 4, in order to get them to import to iPhoto. If there is a video in the set, all photos after that are reported as unrecognized format and won't import. We can then select those photos that didn't import and reimport them and it works. Importing videos, either single videos or groups, or when mixed in with photos just doesn't work. Every time it fails with the unrecognized format error. We are able to import directly from a flip video camera, or if we first transfer the videos from the iphone to the hard drive using a different utility, but when we then import those files into iPhoto, they come in, but without the usual thumbnail image (they show up in the library as black).
This problem has been going on since iPhoto 09. We bought the 11 upgrade hoping it would fix this problem. It made it a little better (we used to not be able to import anything from the phones), but it still doesn't work for video. If it were just one of the phones I'd say it was the phone, but both phones have the problem. We've been seeing this problem for many months now.

Believe me, we've tried it all. Resetting, restarting, reinstalling, clearing preferences, caches, resetting databases, removing all photos off the iPhone and starting from zero. I've read probably 15 different threads on the subject and tried at least as many solutions. In a few instances the problem got better...for 1 sync. Then it cropped up again. I tried syncing to a fresh iPhoto database, and the problem came back for that one as well. I'm really hoping that Apple is working on a solution for this. We've put a lot of effort into our iPhoto archives and the main reason we bought the iPhone's was for the camera (even suffering through AT&T's questionable coverage for it). It doesn't seem like we are the only ones having this trouble.

How can i export lossless video from FCP for Episode Pro?

i am looking for a way to export videos from Final Cut Pro in order to use it in Episode Pro for further converting.
I know i xould use Compressor an just import the Episode settings into Compressor, but that's gonna obstruct my workflow and - to be honest - i hate Compressor.
So what video format is the best for this kind of project?

First, If you render the Sequence before exporting it for Episode, it should not matter whether or where the fonts are installed. Are you sure everything is rendered?
Second, are actually saying that your are editing material in your Final Cut timeline that is coming in over a network connection in another office? You must spend an awful lot of time, drumming your fingers on the desk!
We export everything we do to Episode for conversion to Flash. It just works.

Mirroring video from iphone

First of all sorry for my poor english.
The question is, when i try to play a 1080p video from my iPhone 4s to the tv, using the AirPlay Mirroring through my apple tv2, the video don't play until it load completely. Is this ok?

If you want to connect via AV cable then simply purchase the appropriate cable and connect to your monitor directly, there would be no need for an ATV.

If you're doing it without an internet connection using an Apple TV then you would be using airplay, which is off the local network. Bear in mind, iTunes purchases will need to ping the server for verification purposes (using the internet).
