Video from URL, show controller on poster

Hi,
When you place a Video from URL, it allows you to specify the controller, and whether you want it to appear on rollover. Is there a way to set it so that the controller appears before the movie starts playing, to identify it as a movie clip, similar to the large play button you often see on videos in webpages?

Found that there is a bug, have to go inside the itunes phone menu, and find a playlist, that nobody created. That playlist makes the phone think it has the videos inside, when it doesn't. Have to delete these videos from the list and then you can put videos on the phone again. Really annoying when it happens because it gives no clue of what's going on!

"Place video from URL" not working in InDesign CC 9.1

Has anyone come across why an H.264 encoded mp4 file won't embed into InDesign CC, but will in CS6? Last week I upgraded from Indesign 9.0 (where it was working) to Indesign 9.1 (where it no longer works). Specifically, I'm using the "Place video from URL" option.
* I've tried several different servers to host the mp4 file (the servers do work). The mp4 URLs on each server do work in a browser, but not in Indesign CC.
* I've tried placing the mp4 URL in CS6 and that works fine.
* I've tried a coworker's Indesign CC, that didn't work.
* I've tried making a brand new file in Indesign CC, that didn't work.
I'm running InDesign 9.1 on Mac OS 10.8.5. It looks like Indesign 9.1 broke the "Place video from URL" Does anybody have a fix?

Salah, thank you for the suggestion. However, when trying to paste the embed code into the "Place video from URL" field gets the following error, "The URL must start with 'http://' or 'rtmp://' and must end with a valid file extension."
Using the embed code never worked with Indesign--even before I was having the problems with the URL placement.

Placing a video from URL - Youtube

Youtube converts videos to MPEG-4 H.264 format which is suppose to be supported for the placing a video from url tool in InDesign CS5.5.
Does anyone knwo why this does not work? I nwo that it can be done by creating a flash player, but not interested in the extra work.

You cannot link directly to the video stream on YouTube - the URLs point to an HTML fragment which in turn loads an instance of their player widget, so InDesign doesn't see it as a valid rich media format.
The only legal way to play YT-hosted videos within a non-HTML document is to implement their public API within your own Flash project, and embed the SWF as a rich media object. Joel Geraci wrote a SWF wrapper for use in PDF files which does this.

Since upgrading to Lion, video from 7D shows as unsupported video format

Video from my Canon 7D that used to work fine in Aperture now is showing as unsupported video format can anyone suggest a fix? Is this a Lion, Aperture, or Canon issue?

What's the format of your video? That will give you a hint as to what plugin is failing (or missing).
If you don't know, what's the URL of your site - it shouldn't take long for someone to work out the specifics.

CS6 - Placing video from url with DPS and folio unsuccessful

I am attempting to place video from a url and when I preview the folio on the iPad the video does not work. The only way I have seen this work is with an interactive PDF. Does DPS not support this feature?
I thought this would work with the fact that it would reduce the size of the folios dramatically without having to embed them. Any help would be appreicated.

No, this isn't supported yet. You need to place the video file or set up a Web Content overlay that points to the video URL.

Video From Motion Shows As 16:9 in DVDSP - Plus

Help!!
I've created a Motion project using the "NTSC DV" preset and when I export it out as a Quicktime (either straight from Motion or via Compressor) and import it into DVDSP, DVDSP sees it as 16:9... is there an anamorphic checkbox I'm missing in Motion?
A few other questions while I'm at it...
I have an SC font that displays fine in Motion but Compressor doesn't see it correctly- why's that & how do I fix it?
Also, I have a Motion project and I want to use it as the open for a DVD, the last frame however I want to use as a background for my DVDSP menus. So I need to export a still of the last frame from the movie but I want to make sure it matches up exactly with the movie and there's no jump or shift in the placement when DVDSP goes from the end of the movies to the image for the menus- how do I do this?

Thanks but it still shows up as 16:9 when I import the Motion project... I can't find a preference in Motion to select anamorphic or 16:9 vs 4:3... why not?!?
Question... does this have something to do maybe with bit depth? I have mine set to 16 but if I change it to 8 the graphic looks really dull.

'video from url' linking and intranet files - indesign cc

i am using the media panel and attempting to link to .mp4 files stored on an intranet site. getting the error message 'download failed because the url could not be verified'
the computer which is creating the indesign files does not have access to the intranet site. i assume this is a requirement? has anyone any experience of how to get around this?

@Tomasz – Bob is right, something must be wrong with your InDesign CS6.
Just tested in my version of CS5 and CS5.5. All is working as expected…
For this configuration I'm on OSX 10.6.8 with InDesign CS5 v.7.0.4 or InDesign CS5.5 v7.5.3.
The icon in the media panel is not grayed out and I can invoke the dialog:
And you are absolutely sure, that you did not select a text frame instead of a graphic frame?
(Sorry for that question, but it will not work if you select a text fame.)

Embedded videos from Viddler unable to play

I have been having this problem for quite some time now and it finally bugged me enough to post about it. Anyway, on the Gawker Media sites (specifically Deadspin for this example) embedded videos from Viddler show a "Video not found" error message. However, if you get the link from the video and watch it directly it works fine. Also if you go to viddler.com and watch any video, they work fine. It appears as though something is messed up in how Firefox handles the embedding of the videos. Not sure if it is an HTML5 thing, a Gecko thing, or what but it works fine in G0ogle Chrome.

I am running Firefox v7.b1 and I tried it both with and without my add-ons enabled. My Flash and all other plugins are up to date. I had the exact same problem with Firefox v6 as well. Please fix this issue. Thanks

Based on rschmitty's reply, I attempted a clean install. This seems to fix everything. Not sure where, when, or how something got screwed up, but this is a fairly simple fix. It even continued to work after installing all my add-ons.
After a little research I did find a couple things that can cause this to mess up. Viddler is very picky about their hotlinking and tries to control who links to their videos. Thus if you go to about:config and change the network.http.sendRefererHeader (http://kb.mozillazine.org/Network.http.sendRefererHeader) to anything other than the default of '2' that messes up any video links from Viddler, not just the links on Gawker Media websites. This change is often required by websites like http://crazedlist.org/ or any other mass craigslist searching sites. Just remember that if you change the network.http.sendRefererHeader option, you must change it back for videos to work.
Another thing that can screw with the Viddler video linking are add-ons which basically do the same thing as modifying the network.http.sendRefererHeader option. One such add-on is [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/refcontrol/ RefControl], which if you change from anything but the default will cause the 'Video Not Found' error. If you use add-ons like RefControl be sure to add viddler.com to your whitelist/normal referer list so that this doesn't happen.
This is not an exhaustive list of things which can cause this problem, but it appears that anything like the two above examples which mess with the http referer header will cause it. Maybe reinstalling is not necessary if you simply check anything that may be modifying this option.

HT201077 I cannot download video from shared photostream

I can upload video to a shared photostream. I can see video in my and others photostreams. But I cannot save any video from shared photostream to my Ipad. It is declared officially that it is possible. But after I tap SELECT and tap a video in shared photostream, the DOWNLOAD sign in the left top corner does not become blue. It stays grey and does not offer any options if I tap it. If I do the same actions with any photo (not video) it works well. But with video it refuses to activate this download sign in the left top corner of the screen.

It should be around 7 and a half gigs. In iTunes, across the bottom there should be a bar that show how much storage is being used and by what. (music, movies, apps, etc.) To make music take up less room, you can check the box to make it convert the music to 128kbps AAC. This lowers the quality, but with most earbuds and speakers, you can't even tell the difference.
The iPod touch has parental controls built in. You'll find them in Settings. I think they only work for enabling/disabling Safari, Mail, YouTube, and App Store. Here's an app that does more: http://www.mobicip.com/online_safety/ipod_touch

[CS5][JSX] How to place a video from an URL

I found some great help in this forum in the past, so I hope someone can help me again this time.
I'm using Indesign CS5 on a mac. I write in Javascript.
What i try to do is dynamically placing a video from a URL.
I thought I could do this by adding a rectangle, then in the rectangle place a movie and finally add the URL to it.
This does not work. I'm lost at how to proceed.
Here is the code that i hoped would do the trick (just the relevant lines from a bigger script)

When i run this script I don't get any errors, but the video in the URL is not loaded.
Should I use something like

This doesn't work either!
I hope this is possible at all... I think it is, since you can do it manually in InDesign too.

How to modified a URL showed in a Render phase from the Action phase.

I have a problem with a URL showed when I pass from action phase to render phase. Next I explain that problem.
I'm using a Weblogic Portal 10.3., Java Portlet and Spring. My portlet contains two controllers (A and B). The controller A receive an action and depending of a parameter, shows a viewA (which is managed by A controller) or viewB (managed by B controller). To do that I use a ParameterHandlerMapping of SpringFramework, which if an action parameter is A, the portlet use Controller A and use controller B if an action parameter is B.
Next I show you a Controller A method which receive an action:

What you are seeing is the expected behavior; the URL in the browser will be the action URL (with action=A) even though the portlet is setting a render parameter action=B in the action phase. There's nothing "wrong" with this; the "B" controller will get run because the render parameter "action=B" exists, even though it isn't what is displayed in the browser. In general, it is best to not be concerned about what parameters are in the browser's URL, as the portal framework is managing all the parameters for you on the server-side.
If you really want the browser's displayed URL to not be the action URL, there is a feature built in to WLP 10.3.2 and later versions which will cause the browser to do a redirect to the render URL just after the action phase runs. This will make the browser display the "action=B" in the URL, but the redirect will also double the number of requests the server must handle, so consider if you really need the browser's URL to display the current render URL. To turn this feature on, modify the entry for your portlet in the WEB-INF/portlet.xml file to add a container runtime option "com.oracle.portlet.redirectAfterAction", like this:

I have an Ipad Air. I have tried posting videos from Ipad (that I have saved from Nikon & I have taken with the Ipad Air) to Facebook but I am getting a pop up that video is too small and needs to be at least 1 Kb. The videos are at least 30 seconds.

I have tried to post the video from the video itself and also I have tried on the Facebook app and Facebook.com. I go to select video, then I write something about the video. It's showing the video attached before I even "post"to Facebook. Then I hit post and that's when I get the pop up that the video is too small.

I recently had to swap out my iphone 4s and I am having problems restoring photos and videos from icloud. I get a message on my phone that says " the URL you are requesting is not found on this server". Pics and videos have been deleted too.

When I restored my phone from icloud, half of my pics and videos have been deleted, the pics that were restored on my phone are very blurry, and the videos won't play. I get a message on my phone that says " the URL you are requesting is not found on this server". I have erased and reset my phone twice, but every time I do it, more pics and videos are deleted. I have backed up to icloud and iphoto, however, some of the pics are no longer on iphoto either. Is there someway to get the videos to play on my phone again? Make the photos not as blurry as they are now and to restore the pics and videos that have been lost? I really would love to have them back, this phone is supposed to be the best and right now it doesn't seem to be. Please help if you can.

I too have noticed that once i restored from iCloud. Pictures blurry and videos wont play!
