Video FX turning out white

I'll apply an effect (B&W, for instance), and it'll look great while rendering, but turns solid white once completed...A lot of effects turn out this way...what's up?

This is why I asked about your operating system. (It is important to keep your profile updated.)
Are you certain that you have the necessary Graphics card?
iMovie HD 6 requires Quartz Extreme-compatible graphics cards
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303683
And here I will quote Karl Petersen (iMovie Guru):
Do you have any third-party QuickTime add-ons installed? Users have reported lots of weird problems associated with any of these: 3ivx, Divx, Flip4Mac. If so, remove them—or temporarily move them to some other folder—and Restart your Mac.
They may be located in the Hard Disk>Library>QuickTime folder, or your User>Library>QuickTime folder.
If that doesn't help, remove any third-party iMovie plug-ins too. They are located in your User/Library/iMovie folder.

  • Final Cut Studio 3 installed - and in FCP and Motion, video comes out white

My system meets all the requirements, I've got QT 7.6.4 (and it is pro registered). I did a fresh install of FCS3. When I load anything into an FCP project, the audio plays but video just comes out white (with the exception of an mpg I tried bringing in that did show properly). Also, in Motion, when I load a template, it shows drop zones but all of the graphics are not visible, even when going into "layers".

The video is QT clips and FCP movie (QT exports) from previous work in older versions. It does play fine in QT, so that's not the problem. I also checked and indeed RGB is selected, so it's no an alpha problem.
When I import an mpg, it shows fine in the Viewer. When I import a jpg picture into a new project, it shows as a multicoloured rough image. Video clips just show as white. If I drag that jpg down to the timeline, it shows as White in the Canvas.

Some of my photos in Iphoto turn blank (white) when I tried to edit the size like zoon in and out.Can someone help me on this?

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

I have upgraded from 10.5 to 10.6 and found that all folders/files/pics in my disk drive have 'dotted' (either white or black) patterns on them. But it turns out fine when I open up the affected files/folders/pics. And this phenomenon persisted even after updating to the latest software. I proceeded to upgrade to 10.8 and updated the latest software thinking that this might resolve the problem but still stays the same way as it was. Could it be the Adobe flash player that is causing this problem? Please help.

  • My ipod nano (6th gen)'s screen don't turned on... when resetting it, the screen turns to white.. the most worst is, it doesn't work out...

I really don't know to fix it... What happen was, when i played my ipod nano, it turns to white... i don't know if I accidentally clicked anything on the screen or the buttons at the side of the device... What i did was, I connected it in my laptap because I was thinking that maybe my ipod was in hang mode. When I was able to connect it, the itunes recognized it but I can't played the music and the screen in my ipod screen was still white... SO, I restored it in factory setting... the same thing happen... i don't know what happen, so I need your help...

You can work through the remaining five 5 R's of troubleshooting.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
It might also be a good idea to let the iPod's battery fully drain. Then charge it back up and restore it once more in iTunes.
Otherwise, it's likely a hardware issue with the iPod's LCD display, meaning you'll need to take or send your iPod in for service either via Apple or a third party repair service. Here is Apple's repair pricing.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/
Note that they don't actually repair the device, but exchange it for one of the same generation, model, and capacity.  A third party service will actually replace the damage part for a little less.  Google "iPod screen repair" and you should get a number of results to work with.

  • How to get plain old S-video and Composite out from a MBP?

    Hi,
this question is about someone's MacBook Pro he newly bought with adapters to get both DVI and Svideo/Composite Out.
He got Mini DisplayPort to DVI-D converter, and a DVI-I to video converter, that cannot be plugged into a DVI-D port. Apple removed the analog capability of its adapter, that's bad. But what's badder is there doesn't seem to have any Mini DisplayPort to Svideo/Composite adapter, as there was with previous generation machines.
How can someone easily output analog video from MBP?

In fact, I recognize that these standards are old, which doesn't mean they're not up-to-date. Similar example, VGA connector is old, but perfectly useful, even in 2009. I recently plugged a 22" LCD with VGA and DVI on the same computer (a bland desktop PC), and there was strictly no difference. Same color depth, same crisp display. Even looking at a corner with a magnifier, nothing was different.
So, changing standards just for the sake of it doesn't make any sense.
Agreed that, as a pro, Apple would like me to buy their pro line, but nowhere in the pro line does an easy solution exists for S-Video and composite out. The solution you posted exists, but is unwieldly and not neat at all, if it doesn't break the Mac's connector under its weight. If a manufacturer can do this kind of adapter, Apple can do it better, and make a bigger profit out of it.
For the adapter you posted, I don't ever buy anything that is not at least Mac+Windows compatible, or at a minimum is open-source, so anyone with programming skills can make something. The manufacturer also doesn't give a clue on how this works. I guess some sort of virtual driver sits in the system as a virtual IEEE1394 port so any program requiring FW can work transparently. Still, incompatible with the OS that most manufacturer ship their new PCs with, poor commercial decision, wether you like the OS or not.
Adding FW in the MB unibody design wouldn't have cost anout $30. Rather, we're talking about a 25 cents chip, a 25 cents connector, which they would have rounded up to $20 and still, that was present in previous-gen MB. After all, they are indeed selling a matte screen on the MBP 17" for $50 more, despite them removing a single piece of glass which may cost, well, let's be fair, $5 to manufacture? That's dishonest. And capitalistically justified.
So far, choosing a Mac for one's needs is no easy task: older white MacBooks have the same power as unibodies, excellent connectivity, top notch transfer speeds, BUT are heavier, as not as ecologically friendly nor do they have future-proof RAM standard. The unibodies are sleekier, easily recycled and will be able to be upgraded in the near future BUT is most likely unable to use current devices and have slower transfer speeds.
For Pro models, the newer ones have great efficiency, much power and flexibility with their dual GPU BUT lost the option of matte screen, although their other pro-oriented monitors still default to matte. Only the 17" has the option. If a pro already finds his 15,4" bulky and with ample reserve power, will he buy the bigger and heavier 17"? Probably not.
I understand that Apple way of doing business is keeping only what's essential with no unnecessary options (I'm looking at you, Asus, with you at least 10 different versions of you netbook). But this time, not everyone can find what he or she wants in Apple's line of laptops, as opposed to the iPod thing, where virtually any possible preference is covered.

  • Hi I was using whatsapp on my iPhone5.I was not able go to the main menu by pressing the center button so I hold on to the button for 2 seconds. Then the whole display turned out to be black

I was not able go to the main menu from whatsapp by pressing the center button so I hold on to the button for 2 seconds. Then the whole display turned out to be black & white. how can i fix it?

    Hello monicaa003,
Thanks for participating in the Apple Support Communities.
If your iPhone display turned black and white after holding down the Home button for 2 seconds, first try pressing the Home button again to go to the main menu (Home screen.)
For reference, holding down the Home button for 2 seconds will trigger Siri if that feature is enabled:
    About Siri - Apple Support
If pressing the Home button doesn't return you to the main menu, try restarting or resetting your iPhone:
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
Additionally, if Whatsapp is not responding or working as expected, see the troubleshooting steps at this link:

is there any way else to do it without useing quicktime pro....hope apple fixes this in ios 7 the video should come out in landscape regardless of the way you hold your phone or if you start in portrait and go into landscape while recording

You used the data.  Verizon can not see what it was sued for.  However your phone can see whats apps used the data.  go to settings-data usage- there will be a place that says data usage cycle.  line the dates up with your cycle.  then there will be a bar graph below that   extend bother white bars one all the way to the left and one all the way to the right.  after those are extended below that will be a list of apps,  there should be one that used over 2 gb and that will show you what app used that data in her purse

  • Business trying to take product pictures, turning out dark

Let me preface this by saying no one who works here has had experience with photography and any guidance would be much appreciated.
We just got the Rebel t5i to help us get better pictures of our instruments and other merchandise for our website. I've spent 3 days reading about all the various settings of the camera (ISO, shutter speed, exposure, aperature, filters, lenses) and different lighting options.
The set up we currently have is as follows:
4 par 64 lighting cans with diffusing gels, (2 on an 10 ft. adjustable tree stand, the other 2 on individual adjustable stands) charcoal backdrop. It is important to note that we have this set up in a corner of the store so we're working with being able to light from the front, 1 side and above.
    We're having a few problems.
(This is after much trial and error with settings. The best one I was able to find was on Manual mode, 1/250 shutter speed, f 5.6, iso 800, aeb exposure and tungsten filter to help with the yellowing due to the florescent light)
    1. We can't get the camera to produce an accrate color profile of the items consistently. In the first picture, you can see that the color is more yellow and it's even distorting around the edges. The second picture is more accurate in terms of what the color looks like in natural light but we were never able to get that when we were shooting the guitar closer up.
    2. For black guitars or guitars with black edges, we're losing the edges no matter what we try to do with the lighting.
Do we need more light? or just the light we have being reflected better? different lense on the camera? Any advice would be seriously appreciated!
    Thanks in advance.

Gels don't "diffuse" -- they merely change the color of the light.  Sometimes you change the color for an effect (e.g. light a neutral background with a colored "gel" and put a different light on the subject.
For example... if your background were farther away and a neutral "white" then you could dedicate a light to the background with a colored gel so that the background color always complements the product color (complementary colors can usually be found by using a color wheel).  This basically gives you the ability to make your background any color you want without physically changing the background.
Another good reason to put some distance between product and background is to create better separation of the product.  The edges of the product can now pick up reflections that you can control and you wont have a black against black problem that you're having here.  It also allows the background to fall outside the depth of field (the range at which things appear to be nicely focused) -- this allows you to deliberately blur the background and yet have a tack-sharp subject for even better subject isolation.
I can see the shadows are casting hard edges on the background -- which isn't a good look.  When we talk about "diffusing" a light, what we really mean is that we make the shadows edges soft and gradual. If light originates from a pin-point source, you get a well-defined shadow.  It has a hard edge.  E.g. when you stand outside on a sunny day and look at your own shadow, you can see the shape of your body on the ground because that's considered a pin-point light source (the sun's angular diameter is only about 1/2º from edge to edge.)    If, on the other hand, you shoot the light through a very broad diffusing material (such as a "shoot through" umbrella which has a diameter several feet across, NOW the light appears to originate from the entire surface area of the fabric on the umbrella.  That nice broad light source means you don't get shadows with hard edges... instead things gently change from light to shadow and it's a much better look.
As I stare at the knobs and pickups on the front of your first image, I can see a very definite shadow with defined edges -- which we don't want.  This is because your light source appears to originate from a small area (basically a "point source").  There are many ways to diffuse light... shoot-through umbrellas, reflective umbrellas, soft-boxes, etc. will all cuase the light to appear to originate from a very broad source.
You also mentioned you are struggling with white balance and getting the colors to show accurately.
The easiest way to handle this (and nail it) is to use something called a "gray card".   When you use a white balance setting on the camera, that's just a good "guess" at the right white balance setting.  But when you use a gray card you can be sure you actually have the correct white balance... every time.
The "card" is just a surface that's painted gray.  But not just any gray will work.  This gray is formulated to be guaranteed to be "color neutral" and the camera and post processing software expect this.  There are two ways to use it.
If you shoot JPEG images (I always only shoot RAW) then you place the gray card in the IDENTICAL lighting that you will use to photograph your subject.  In the photo below, I'd put the gray card right in front of the guitar.  Center the card in the camera's viewfinder and get in close (it doesn't need to fill the whole camera frame, but it should cover most of the middle of the frame.).  The camera doesn't even need to be focused (its almost better if it's not focused).  Take a photo of the card.
If you shoot RAW, you just need one photo that has the gray card in it -- anywhere.  It just needs to be in the identical light conditions as your product.  Remove the gray card after you take this shot and then shoot the rest of your images as you normally would.  This "gray card" image will serve as a reference image and will be used later.
Since the room lights are not technical a neutral "white" color (the light has a colored tint to it) it will alter the color of the gray on the card.  This is what we want because know we have an object for which the camera actually KNOWS the true "color" and yet it can see the "apparent" color (caused by the tint of the light) and this lets the camera (or computer software) make the color correction to get the colors back to true color.
If you shoot JPEG you can use something called "custom white balance" (CWB).  You'll go into the camera's white balance menu, pick the "custom white balance" (CWB) option.  It will prompt you to select the image on your memory card which contains the gray card shot.  Find and select that image.  The camera will then analyze the apparent color of the card (compared to what it knows is the true color of the card) and will adjust the colors by subtracing the color tint from the image.  Now... EVERY shot you take with that particular CWB setting will have the identical color correction applied.  Just note that if you change your lights, move your product to a different spot, etc. then you have to shoot a new gray-card image and re-select it as the new CWB reference image.
If you shoot RAW (my preferred method) the camera doesn't do anything as you shoot... just make sure you captured one image with the gray card and then shoot the rest of your shots without the card.
When you unload the images into your computer software, you'll find the image with the gray card and you'll use your "white balance" tool (Adobe Lightroom is recommended if you shoot RAW -- there are others.)   The tool will usually have an eye-dropper icon.  Pick the icon and it'll prompt you to go pick a pixel from your image.  Go pick a pixel on that gray-card you have in the photo.  The software will apply white balance correction based on the gray card and that will fix that one image to have accurate white balance.  Having done this, you can now "sync" that white balance correction to every single shot you took in your photo shoot (provided they were shot in the  identical lighting).  You've now applied white balance correction to the entire shoot.
I should warn you that the colors on your computer monitor are probably not accurate unless you own a color calibration tool and have calibrated the monitor.  I use a Colormunki Photo (by X-Rite).  The Datacolor Spyder is also popular.  It has software that changes the color of your display to various calibration colors so the tool can determine how accurately your monitor displays color and it then creates a "profile" for your monitor so that the colors on your screen are true to real-life colors (otherwise when you think you have the color correct on YOUR screen, it may look wrong on someone OTHER screen.)
There is a little more to it... but that gets color pretty close.  It turns out your camera may have various levels of sensitive to saturations of reds, greens, and blues that vary.  So X-Rite makes a device called the "Color Checker".  It has a card with colored squares on it -- you photograph the card, white balance it, and then pull up the image in their software and they can detect that even though the white balance is correct, certain color saturations may still need some tweaking -- and the software applies these adjustments for you.  In the end you can be confident that the colors are bang-on accurate.  If anyone else thinks the colors are wrong... it's their montior which is out of whack... not yours.

  • "Your video is turned off" on Skype for Mac

Recently, my iMac is displaying "Your video is turned off" when I try to videoconference with some other Skype users. I have Skype 6.3 installed. My wife is overseas for 6 months, and she is using a MacBook with Skype 2.8 installed. She refuses for personal reasons to upgrade to another version. Video doesn't work between us. Has the source of this problem been isolated yet, and is anyone trying to fix it?

I have contacted Skype through several channels, and visited lots of online forums.  The Skype rep I chatted with seemed little aware of this problem, and gave me several useless fixes. Some of what I read led me to believe that this problem is more difficult to deal with if you are using more recent Macs with the newest OS's. So, I was trying to find out if the problem is all Skype's, or also some part Apple's. Most of what I read online also was of the opinion that Microsoft was not making any effort to fix it (if it can be fixed). I have an open mind on that issue, but I would like to know more precisely what is going on.
    Thanks for your suggestion, though.

  • X-Fi Titanium Champion Series. Folloup, Turns OUT STATIC NOT CREATIVES FA

Well I came on and posted a couple of threads. One was about the four new cards I had purchased (All new Titanium PCI-E Cards) which had redicules amount of static in everything. Some examples:
.) Explosions in games huge static
2.) Watching videos online and scrolling up and down caused static
    3.) General Windows Audio Static
Im not 00% which resolved it. Firstly I have the Asus Striker II Extreme Motherboards, Upgraded to the 03 series Bios, and the new September set of nforce/geforce/ntools drivers for the 9800 GX2s. After reinstalling windows, the static was gone. Previously I had static at this point. However once I installed the ACPI update from windows update, the static returned. Reinstalled windows and didnt install this one update and statics gone.
Im using the Drivers right off the cd, turns out "This isnt the fault of Creative Labs". I was trolling them before blaming them stating its the first Creative Card Ive used thats ever given me problems, now I know I trolled the wrong guy and creative as always does maintain and make an awesome product

Its interesting really, the SupremeFX II in the same PCI-E slot doesnt get any static. Ive had to remove the Titanium PCI-E and use the onboard to stop static when using SLI.
I use to get static with SLI off but it looks like the most recent BIOS from asus along with all the latest drivers from nvidia seemed to fix this however in SLI the problem still exists
I dont feel as though this is creatives problem is the non sli static was fixed with nvidia drivers
