Video game consoles on a Mac?

Hi there, I'm new here. I plan on gettting a new 24" iMac for 3D design, animation and music composition. I've been looking into a Mac for a long time, and all of the PCs I have used are worthless.
Also, I'd like to use my Mac for console gaming. Is there any type of Component, Composite or HDMI adapter I can use to hook up my console to the Mac so that it can be used like a TV screen?
Let's say the Xbox 360: You have the option of Component, Composite or HDMI. To connect the Component cables, do you need the Red, White and Yellow cables, just the Blue, Green, and Red, or all six connected? And if I was to hook up the HDMI, would I need the Component/Composite cables also connected or the HDMI cable alone?
Please answer any questions that you can. I look forward to joining the beautiful Mac familly soon

Maybe I am confused about what it is you are trying to do, but the video connector on an iMac is a video output for running a second display. The iMac does not have a video input in the sense of being able to use it's screen as a display for an external device. Although I have heard some people use these things to connect game consoles, but I have never personally used one:

A web search is not turning up an iOS app for playing Yahoo! games. So you likely cannot play them.

I'm unclear about what you're asking - could you be a little clearer? I know you say that you want to "record video games" but I'm not sure if you're asking if you could, for instance, create a movie of video games as they're being played or what.

  • Why did apple stop supporting disc installed video games in their macs

I was wondering why did apple support disc installed games like spore on older macs but they wont install on the newer macs. This is really bothering me because i like disc installed videos games they are safer and you have to purchase them in order to play them unless you have a crack. Now apple is saying that discs are obsolete when really they aren't.

These are user-to-user forums where everyday folk (volunteers) post questions and offer answers (technical support) to each other.None of us users take part in any of Apple's decisions and/or why they do the things that do.  Your best bet would be to post your concerns over on the Product Feedback website.

  • Anyway to Play Video Games on IMac

Just purchased the new Imac and I have a question. There is only one tv in my house and me and my lady friend fights over the tv. Is there a way I can play video games with good quality on the new IMac? I have seen the eyetv, and was wandering will that work. Thanks

You obviously can play Mac games on the Mac...
if you have a console then you can use the eyeTV Wonder USB.

Q: Can I connect my PlayStation/GameCube/XBox to EyeTV Wonder USB 2.0?
A: You can. EyeTV Wonder USB 2.0 has a delay of only few milliseconds, allowing for excellent live gameplay. Other EyeTV devices have encoding hardware that causes a larger delay, rendering gameplay difficult to impossible.

  • Will the new 2012 MacBook pro allow me to play my Games console via the hdmi slot?

Hi, I am looking to purchase the new MacBook pro 15 inch retina display for work. I was wondering whether I would be able to play my games console 360/ps3 via the hdmi slot as this would save me prove buying a tv for my flat.

I don't think you can. This is because the there is no "source" on any Mac, this means that you can only use the computer. So what I'm saying is that the MBP with retina display is only "out" so you can only use it to show what's on the monitor on your tv.

  • Is this macbook good for video games

what is the best mac for video games?

MacBook Pro has two graphics processors, the AMD comes in when the graphics load is high.
The iMac has a much better graphics processor and can handle much more memory and faster cpu for better response.
The Mac Pro has an even higher level graphics processor, memory, cpu, plus can take very large cinema displays and handles dual displays very well.
Take you pick depending on just what you want in the way of gaming capability.  How much do you need, 3-D?  Go to the Mac Pro for that level.

  • Programs to use for making video games

I am interested in trying to make my own video game. I just upgraded to a 15.4" MacBook Pro with a 2.33ghz intel duo core 2 processor, 256mb Graphics cards, 120gb hard drive, and 3 gb of ram. I am new to this whole gaming thing, and need to know what kind of programs to get to start doing it. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    hi,
well motion could certainly help with producing some graphic elements to use in a game. You could produce explosions and other particle animations. It all depends on what kind of game you want to make, if its a true 3D game you will need a 3D engine which is a whole other kind of fish. And in any case to bring all the graphic elements together with the UI and rules of the game you will need to delve deep into coding. For that you will need to chose an application that can compile code into an application. There is a progrm that is pretty easy to pick up, is very powerful and can compile to Windows and Linux as well as Mac.

I must warn you though that coding is a dark and scary place.

  • Game Console Exchange - XBox One

I bought an XBox One console bundle (Forza and Kinect) last 09/28/2014. Is it possible to exchange this to the upcoming XBox One Sunset Overdrive bundle?
If it is, how much will I be paying since I already used the Forza code and what if I want to keep the Kinect as well?
I am an Elite Plus Member, so is this covered within the 45 days exchange?

    Greetings niknokseyer,
With so many special edition consoles and bundles being released, it’s not surprising to perhaps see something shortly after that you may prefer over what you’ve already purchased. With our Return & Exchange Promise, as an Elite Plus member, you should have 45 days to return a purchase.
Unfortunately, you would not be able to return the video game, as we do not accept returns of opened video games, although they may be exchanged for the identical item. As this is a bundle and you would not be able to return everything, we should be able to accept what you do return, minus the value of the discount or freebies.
If you should have any further questions or inquiries in regards to this, please let me know!
    Sincerely,

  • Problems with 10.5.4 and older video games

I have a new MacBook running OS X 10.5.4 and I have a copy of an older video game (Diablo II) that installs fine when the OS X installer is used, but the game always fails to launch. I always get the "this application quit unexpectedly" screen when I try and start the game. In doing some research on this, I have found that the most likely answer is that the newest versions of OS X don't give the option to use 256 colors mode, which is what the game needs to launch. Does anyone know if this is indeed the case, and how I can work around it so I can get the game running? Also, since I'm a Mac newb, if I can't run this game, how do I fully uninstall the program? What I mean is, what is the Mac equivalent of Add/Remove Programs on Windows? Thanks.

Find out about the new Diablo III:

Uninstalling an application from a Mac depends on how it was installed. If you install the app by just dragging it into the applications folder then you can just drag it to the trash. If you install a program that uses an installer program, the the installer program may have the ability to uninstall the program, or the company may include an uninstaller.
You can also use a program like AppZapper to find system files related to a program, and delete those files also.

  • My kid likes to play video games that require a right click.  What mouse would you recommend?

What mouse is best for video gaming?  My son likes to play shootemup games where he has to rearrange troops and shoot aliens.  The games, while ok for a mac, are best with a right click as well as left click.  All I have on the MacBook Pro is a trackpad.  He could get a mouse, but which one?

  • Classic Video Games Question

    Hi all,
I'm a bit of a video game lover and recently have come across some oldies on the web I used to love. Mostly PC games like Indiana Jones adventure types....
I'm now 100% Mac, and found a copy on Amazon of one of these games on CD for sale. Question is, will very old mac based games run on my Intel Based iMac?
If not, does any one know/has heard of any programs or tools to run video games classics?
    thanks

    Hi djkhont,
As someone who was recently trying to revive my old PC games, try the following utilities:
DosBOX - An MS-DOS emulator, available free for download for many platforms (including Mac OS X Universal)
ScummVM - Another free application to run a good chunk of the classic LucasArts games (Monkey Island, Sam & Max, Loom, etc). You mentioned Indiana Jones... don't know which Indiana Jones you found at Amazon, but check the list of supported games, I believe "Last Crusade" is in there.
As far as playing MacOS 9 (Classic) games on an Intel Mac, I'm afraid it's not possible, as the other posters had mentioned. The Intel Macs do not support the Classic environment.
(another reason why I will never part with my old iBook...)
    Hope this helps,
    Steve

  • Game creation on a mac

I know this might not be the right place to post this sort of topic...but, I was wondering what the best tools are for game creation on a mac. I have heard Unity and Torque Gam Engine are good ones but I am hopefully looking toward something that is freeware. Any suggestions?
I have heard there are engines for Unreal and Quake, etc that are free...

Snapz Pro supports digital audio capture, and microphone capture.
Check This Page out. There's trial download available.
Regarding the timing of the subtitles or captions in iMovie, what I did was to place the playhead (the moving triangle) where I wanted the subtitle inserted (the subtitle starts from that very point, and lasts as long as you set it in the Speed slider), Edit/Split Video Clip at Playhead and then dragged the subtitle from the gallery to that place in the timeline.
Some subtitles can last up to a few seconds, and ohers, like "Music Video", up to ten minutes.
