Video geo-tagging bug?

Hi everybody,
today, while i was updating my iPhoto's library, i discovered that all my video (made by an iPhone 4) have a geo-tag in the South African Ocean. Ok, this is impossible, of course it is an error... but why did it happen? All my video, not 1 or 2.. I think this is a bug.
Does anybody have this problem, too?

Red Hen is a weird outfit. It's great software but weird. I have seen nothing similar for Quicktime.
We have a few copies of Red Hen's products in our environmental group. The GPS data is encoded onto an audio track as noise pulses and recovered by the software during viewing. It can then be superimposed over the video and burned in or used as a reference track. However, it's an audio track, not a streaming database so the map has to be synced to the video and you will probably do that by hand. That is, I know of no way to play a Red Hen-encoded video file and have a mapping application read the data in real time. Although, come to think of it, the data from the video should look just like a stream of GPS coordinates as far as the mapping software is concerned.
Sorry not to have any useful information for you. Please come back and close the thread if you figure something out. We'd all like to know how you solve this. With geotagging common on consumer still images, you'd think somebody would have a user friendly video-based system.

  • Video Geo Tags

Does anyone else see an issue with the geo tags on Video once imported to iphoto? i took photos and video at the same location couple days back, photo geo tags were correct while the video was completely off and put the video location in the southern hemisphere...

On the photo details I can see the GPS coordinates but I want to download it to a map with a thumbnail.

  • Pictures and Videos geo-tag to airports only?

I was trying out iMovie for iPhone and I noted when adding titles it showed the location of the clip at my local airport - and it's 20 miles away (and not where I took the video). Location services are on for the camera and I tried resetting all data and taking another short movie - no change.
Even in iMovie, when I press the "here" button to override the default, nothing happens. When I try to manually enter the location, it only lists airports, by their airport code... strange.
    Any ideas?

Im still on the 3Gs but just got iOS 4 and I have not done a video yet, but I do take a lot of pictures of jobsites during the course of the day, and while looking at the new iOS4, I tried that out, and they seem to be working just fine. No airports involved at all.. an array of dropped pins where the photos were taken.
    Let us know.

  • Geo tagging video and split screen.

Does anyone know of how to geo tag a video and use this in a split screen with the video and a gps moving map. There is a system for PC's called Red Hen Systems, http://www.redhensystems.com/home, but nothing I can find for Apple that I can find. Any ideas?

  • Geo tagging in Nokia Photos

    Hi,
I have Nokia N 82, v 31.0.016.  For some of my geo-tagged pictures, after syncing with Nokia Photos, if i want to see my geo-tagged picture in Show item in Map View, i am able to see the picture in Map view of Nokia Photos, but in Timeline view, if i try to flip the same photos which is geo-tagged, it will not show the location where it is taken, Is it a bug ? For geo-tagged image why the location is not stored default on tags ?  Will it be useful, if geo-tagged pictures location tag is updated automatically? Or it has to be made as Manual to store the location tag for all the images which are already geo-tagged?  Hope it sounds clear ...

  • Geo-Tagging/GPS support in iMovie 11

I own a Sony Camera that uses geo-tagging, iMovie 9 didn't support the GPS tag that is added to each video where iPhoto did for stills taken with the same Camera. Now that iPhones do video does iMovie allow for Geo-Tags?

I am surprised that that does not work.
In any event, there is a free tool caled MPEG Streamclip which you can get from Squared 5.
You can drag the MPEG4 file into MPEG Streamclip and choose FILE/EXPORT TO MPEG 4. Choose h.264 as the compression. That should import.

  • IPhoto 11 is moving my geo tagged photos

iPhoto has been moving my geo tagged photos to the wrong place, sometimes it is just moving a few of them to a different town a few miles away but after opening it today it moved about 60 pictures taken in Maui to somewhere in Idaho. Is anyone else having this problem or know how to fix it?  I'm getting tired of having to move my photos back to where they were taken as it is not very easy anymore with the newest version of iPhoto.

Sorry but I do not understand your question
As to importing iPhoto simply copies the photos to the iPhoto llibrary - no changes of any sort are made

  • Photo Geo tags are not being used by Places

I have been importing photos into iPhoto with valid geo tags and none of the photos are being shown on the Places map.
When I initially starting using iPhoto I imported some pictures from my iPhone and realised that the pictures were identified on the Places maps automatically, since I have added photos and manually edited the location information directly in Places.
If I import pictures from my iPhone they are not entered into Places and if you check all the location information is blank, if you look at the extended information you can see all the correct GPS information...
    I'm confused..

in your iPhoto preferences is look up places set to "Automatically"? The default is "never" and it must be changed to "automatically" to work.

  • Sony Ericsson geo-tagging doesn't show up on Mac

So I have a Sony Ericsson T715, which has triangulation geo-tagging for photos, I can see their location through the phone no problem.
However, when I import them via the Bluetooth File Browser to my Mac and import them into iPhoto '09, their location does not show up
Why is this? How should I import them so that this information stays? (Was a reason why I bought this phone.)
I tried looking at the phone/importing through Image Capture, but it doesn't seem to work... keeps randomly opening iPhoto and showing nothing. In Image Capture it shows the photos, but I can't import them - just says it's importing, but does nothing in the end.

No one but the people who made the phone if the data is not there then it is not there and it is not an iPhoto issue - it is a phone issue - their tech support is the place to go
iPhoto handles correctly formatted Geo Date in the correct EXIF fields - getting it there is the soure hardware's job

PS threadjacking is not the best way to get answers even if it is an iPhoto question - new threads that are on the subject are much more successful

  • IPhoto 09 not recognising locations for geo-tagged photos

I've been geotagging my photos in iPhoto for over a year now, using HoudahGeo. This works really well and integrates great with sites such as Flickr that support geo-tagged photos.
When I installed iPhoto 09, it only recognises about 30 photos out of several thousand as geo-tagged. These are mainly photos taken with my iPhone, but also some taken with my Sony camera and geotagged with HoudahGeo.
I've checked a sample of the ones it does not put in a location (all taken with the same Sony camera) and the Exif data is there with the correct latitude and longitude but iPhoto 09 sees these fields as blank when I do a Photos > Shows Extended Photo Info, the latitude and longitude fields are blank.
Anyone any ideas what I am doing wrong / how I get the photos to show on the map in iPhoto 09?

I usually import the photos direct to iPhoto from my camera and then use HoudahGeo to geo-tag the original copies of iPhoto in my library. Prior to iPhoto 9 this is not a big issue as it did not use the geo-tag information directly but with iPhoto 9 it's a big issue for users like me as I'd rather not have to export from the camera to a folder, geo-tag and then import to iPhoto 9 as it's messy to say the least.
As I noted - this will not work - iPhoto is a database and it keeps data about the photo in its database - as all database programs do - and changing the data elsewhere will not update the database
Anytime you apply modifications directly to the data in the iPhoto database you are risking corruption and it is recommended that you not ever modify the contents of the iPhoto library
I use an ATP Photo Finder - http://www.atpinc.com/p2-4a.php?sn=00000414 - which applies the Geocodeing data directly to my photos so when I import them they are complete - it simplifies my work flow a lot
Surely Apple will have thought of users like me who geo-tag using a GPS external to the camera and provided some easy method of re-reading the Exif data in the photos in real time?

  • Info for requesting geo-tagging for Canon Powershot cameras.

I currently have a Canon powershot which I love, but was hoping to upgrade to a newer model that supported geo-tagging..
I just called Canon customer service and asked if there were any current or future models that would be including this feature..
The rep said he is not given any info on future models but that no current models offered geo-tagging.
He did say that my call would go down as a feature request and if enough people are looking for this feature it will be included soon..
So for what it's worth, if you are interested in requesting this feature, Canon's number is 1-800-652-2666..
I would really like to be able to put places to work without entering manually.

If you have an iPhone, you can use it as a geologger using an app called GeoLogTag. I'm doing this for a couple weeks now and it works great. The app exports GPX files, that can be used with geotagging apps like HoudahGeo.
With this workflow, you can keep you current Canon Powershot camera, if you have an iPhone 3G of course.
Another feature of GeoLogTag (off-topic now) is that it can geotag Flickr photos directly from within the app, which is pretty cool!

  • How do I view my pics on a screen sized map based on geo tag like I could in iPhoto?

In iPhoto I was able to view an entire Event or album on a map with pins showing where each of the pics was geo tagged.  In Photos now all I can view is a very small 2 inch square map.  Is it possible to view a grouping of pics in Photos but on a large screen size map?  Do I need an additional app to do this?

    You still can (kind of).
If you open the Photos app and you are in Albums, tap Photos. In Photos, pictures are auto-grouped as Events based on location and date. If you see the location listed, that is tappable. Tap it, and that reveals the map where the photos were taken.
The one thing I don't know is how to see all photos by location. Because the most you can zoom out by time is Years, which means you can only see all photos taken by location within a single year, but not all years. I hope there's a way that I just haven't learned yet.

  • IOS 8: Photos not presenting abroad geo tags

i reside in China and I have taken pictures abroad for the past few years. Geo tags worked fine until iOS 8 upgrade: photos tagged outside China is not presented with location names, but their geographic data are retained.
Abroad locations include the US, Canada, and northern part of Europe. Anybody have any ideas how to fix it?  Thanks in advance.

Ocay, I found solution. I just turn off/on light and HDR swithers in camera app.
