Video glitch is symptom of what in DVDSP or Compressor?

My video works fine when I export a MOV file from FCP7 and burn it to DVD with Toast. But now I've tried sending it to Compressor and then DVDSP.
On the DVD, each shot looks a bit pixelated to start, but flashes between fairly pixelated and very pixelated at a rate of about half a second each. And in the LESS-MORE-LESS-MORE series of pixelation moments within the clip, the MORE ones get worse as the clip goes along. Then the pattern starts over again with the next clip.
I have a feeling some setting is wrong. The original sequences are in AIC, exported as a full MOV file, Compressed in Best Quality 90 minute setting, and then burned as 16x9 SD video.

First, I appreciate everyone's help with this. If a client weren't waiting impatiently, I'm sure it never would have happened!
Second, here are two screen shots from DVD Player. Please ignore the screenshot demo's watermark.

It seems to take about 1 second for the entire cycle of good-bad-good frames.
I spend a few hours trying to narrow down the cause.
Self-contained QT movie - good
MPEG2 file created by Compressor and viewed in QT Player - good
DVDSP simulation - good
DVDSP build, resulting VOB file viewed in VLC - BAD
Of course, burning a DVD is also BAD
In previous tests, Toast worked fine with the internal DVD burner in my Mac Pro and a DVD-RW I've been using.
So I assume FCP and Compressor are doing their job, and something about the build process in DVDSP is the issue.
The other complication is that it doesn't seem to be happening in shorter clips or in all of the longer clips, but when it does happen it starts about 30 seconds into the clip and gets worse as you go along. Even clips that get bad start being good, so the cycle repeats with each clip in the timeline. But just before the frames you see here, I have an equally long clip of a different guy, and he never degrades within his clip.
I also checked the clip info in FCP, and it's the same for good and bad clips: 29.97, 1440x1080, HDV1080i/60, 32MB/SEC, HD, Upper/Odd.
Any thoughts? Thanks again.

  • Video Glitches with 10.5.2 & 10.5.1

I've had a number of video glitches with my 2x867 MDD with the OEM GeForce4 MX (32mb) card, an Apple 15" Studio Display on the ADC port and an LG 22" LCD on the DVI port when using 10.5.2. I have not noticed them booting off the Leopard Update DVD. What I see is flashes of mostly white boxes with green or black edges. The flashes are fewer with 10.5.2 than they were with 10.5.1, but they're not gone.
Also, from time-to-time, the LG monitor will be lost at boot-up. Nothing will display on it, System Profiler says there's only the ADC connected monitor, etc. even though the monitor shows that it's connected to the computer.
    Anybody else seeing this?

I am Currently restoring my Power Book after a significant meltdown.
Thanks for posting I too saw the shearing effect but shrugged it off thinking oh well I'll just reboot!
If you are seeing this Buy a fire wire drive NOW and Back-up.
I suspect the Video update changed a low level feature in the power management routines and this resulted in my Power book cooking itself.
I've got a 12mth old Hitachi 7200 PATA drive in my Power Book after the Apple Drive cooked itself soem tim back and I have now got to back-up and restore my whole system. Luckiliy I have plenty of Big fast firewire drives around so I'm imaging the corrupt drive and going to run the Hitachi tool on it via a WINDOZE Thinkpad. Then a combination of clean install of 10.5.x and a migration assisted restore should do it.
I'm really not very happy though! My Time machine image did not restore and the disk repair did not work. I have a corrupted asl.DB ( the log file for Apple System Logs) and the mac won't boot from its internal drive.
I'll post the resolution here as it happens I'm at hour Disaster + 24 so I'm really cranky!
I suggest If you have a G4 Power Book you resist the temptation to install the video update.

  • Video Glitch

I just downloaded the new software update for my mac. The software updates were: J2SE 5.0 Release 3 and the Mac OS X Update. I don't know if they have anything to do with my problem, but it never happened before them, just after I downloaded them.
I watched a DVD last night about a few hours after downloading the software update. The DVD would pause for less than a second, as if there were a scratch, but the DVD was in perfect condition. The audio was fine but it was a very quick pause. I thought that the DVD was scratched. This morning, I decided to make sure and put in a DVD. Sure enough, it does the same thing, so it has to be my iMac.
(I put in a different DVD this morning, just to make sure.)
The software updates were: J2SE 5.0 Release 3 and the Mac OS X Update. I don't know if they have anything to do with the video glitch, but it never happened before them, just after I downloaded them.
What should I do? How do I fix this?
(P.S. This only happens in the DVD player, because I watched a trailer online, so obviously it's not any other video.)

Does the slight pause occur around the midpoint (say 1 hour 30) minute point of the DVD? If so, this is normal and common to all DVD players (both your mac, as well as all commercially available dvd players) as the dvd player switches over to play the second layer of a dual layer DVD disc.
Not all DVDs are dual layer discs, so that can explain why some dvds seem fine, while others arent.
The fine print on the back of the dvd box or in the insert usually tells you if the movie is on a dual layer disk, and that such a pause is `normal`.

iphone/ipad video glitches after upload thru iphoto/image capture...suggestions??

If the problem only appears with iPhoto then it may be due to a bad pref file for iPhoto. It could also be caused by a bad cache or log file.
There are additional ImageCapture preference files located in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ByHost/ folder. Be sure to remove them also. Also remove the /Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto/ folder.
There are two ImageCapture cache files located in the /Library/Caches/ folder. Drag them to the Trash but do not delete them as yet.
Now restart the computer and see what happens.

  • Video Glitching- Lines and Patches on Screen

    Hello.
This morning my three-year-old iMac G5 began exhibiting video glitches. The glitching occurs at all times, including the gray bootup screen. The display appears to be streaked all over with coloured lines which change colour and pattern when I move windows and objects around on the desktop.
    http://www.gossi.co.uk/misc/screenjpg.jpg
An additional strange symptom is that this first occurred when I started up World of Warcraft. Now the above behavior occurs at all times with or without WoW running. 3D graphics in WoW are highly distorted, stretched and blocky.
I am aware of the iMac repair problem, although my serial number does not match up, and my iMac is second generation rather than first.
This seems very unusual, and doesn't seem to match many other graphical problems mentioned on the forums. Has there been any other issues similar to this reported?

    To Apple Discussions!
"An additional strange symptom is that this first occurred when I started up World of Warcraft."
Are you playing this game off of a CD/DVD or is it installed onto your HD?
    Which OS are you using?
*A couple of things to try prior to visiting your local AASP:*
Max out your RAM. Your system info confirms you only have 1GB.
Boot from your System Install DVD & run the repair disk/permissions option(s). If this works, then I suggest that every time you play WOW, afterwards repair permissions directly from the HD & restart your computer. However, you really should consider maxing out your RAM.
    Mac OS X 10.4 Help-My Dispay Doesn’t Look Right
If the above is of no help then you will need to do the following:
    System Preferences>Display>Display
Check the Colors & Brightness settings.
My Color setting is set to Millions which I believe is the default setting.
Now click on the Color button.
    Check Display Profile
Is Show profiles for this display only enabled or disabled?
If necessary click on the Calibrate button & do the necessary.
Now in the bottom right corner, click on the purple button w/the black ? mark in the middle. This will bring up the help window.
Midway down, click on the Colorsync Utility link.
The next window should be Profile First Aid.
Read & follow the instructions/details of About Profile First Aid: & do the necessary to Verify & Repair.

  • Why would an audio track cause a video glitch?

I have a 1080 60p clip with no audio.  If I create a sequence based on that clip, add a wav file to an audio track, then export using the H.264 60p custom preset with audio multiplexing to an .m2t everything looks fine.    However, if I export using the H.264 Blu-ray preset, 720p, 59.94, multiplexed, to an .m2t file the video has some stutters towards the end.   If I remove the audio track and do the same export, still muxed, the video is fine in 720p.   I get the same result if I start with a 720p sequence (i.e. addition of audio causes video glitch).
Edit: tried a different audio file, this time .mp3, same problem.
Edit: importing the muxed 60p export with audio, then exporting as noted in 720p has the same issue.
Comments?   Let me know if what I'm describing isn't clear.

Hi Jim - understood in an ideal world one would have source video footage, sequence, and output target all the same.  Is it not common though for folks to have situations where there is more than one target output?
Anyway, I think I have a tree covering both roads if I understand your analogy.  What is wrong with the following picture?  I took the original 1080 60p clip, dragged it into a 720p 59.94 sequence, exported the video only.  The exported video looks just fine in this case.  I even tried different formats (Matrox MPEG I-Frame HD, H.264 Blu-ray muxed and not).  It is all good.
Next I imported the aformentioned no issue video that is in 720 59.94 into a sequence that matches then exported to a matching format.   No issue with the resultant video.   Is this scenario not what you mentioned?   Start with video that matches the sequence and target output?
However, if I add an audio track, the video has some flashing/stuttering at the end particularly towards the top.   Why would exporting with or without an audio track in the above scenario make a difference?
In case it matters, the video came from a modified After Effects template.  I don't own AE and paid another guy to modify the template.  I will go back and ask him to render in 720p 59.94.  Still, the above just doesn't seem right.

  • Help Needed : Video Glitch after exporting from Premiere Pro CC

    Hi all ,
I have been experiencing this issue for sometime now. I occasionally encounter a video glitch after exporting a video from Premiere Pro CS6 or CC. Sometimes it happens in my NLE timeline , which I have to remove the affected clip that has the glitch/flicker problem from my bin and re-import the clip from my original source, which solves the problem.
However , the worst part is when the glitch/flicker happens when I have already exported the video when everything seems fine in the timeline of Premiere . My sequence settings do match with the clip . This issue happens intermittently as I always have to hope for the best when the video exports.
Here is an Example of what I mean, the glitch/flicker happens at 3:28 of the music video.
Hopefully those who have the same issue can share how to troubleshoot this problem . Thank you.
    Regards,
    Elias Lo

  • What does DVDSP do with progressive footage.

Just curious if anyone actually knows. We already know that DVDSP does not do progressvie DVDs and we are expected to feed it interlaced footage so knowing that a lot of work comes to us in various codecs with a load of it all progressive in one flavour or another what is happening in DVDSP to this progressive footage before DVDSP writes the DVD. Does it actually introduce interlacing in some way ? If so how does this affect the quality of the post interlaced progressive footage.
    Peter

Hi Peter - are you using DVDSP to encode video? The encode settings in DVDSP preferences are rudimentary to say the least and do not give you access to all of the controls that you need to get the job done well. The encoding is there to cope with menus more than video, and although DVDSP will encode anything not already converted to MPEG2 you really shouldn't use it if you want to control anything in the process. It's the old adage "just because you can, doesn't mean you should"...
The video really needs encoding using Compressor (or any other suitable encoder) to get your video and audio files to import into DVDSP. If you do this you shouldn't get any interlacing (provided you didn't add it as part of the encode in Compressor).
DVDSP won't re-encode your MPEG2 file... thus you should get progressive output from DVDSP if that's what you gave it.

  • Why do online videos start and stop and what to do about it

why do online videos start and stop and what to do about it

It usually means a slow internet connection, or inadequate hardware or both.
It is not a 10.6 problem as such as 10.6 handles video streaming quite well.
In your post this tag seems incongruous in this 10.6 category.

  • "Doctor Who: The Classic Series" - Corruption and Audio/Video Glitches

Has anyone else had problems with the "Dr. Who: The Classic Series"?
First off, I am unable to download "Episode 1" of "Carnival of Monsters". I have tried to download on 2 different Macs and one PC, all stop around 90 MB (error 8008).
Secondly, all 4 episodes from "The Claws of Axos" are riddled with audio pops, coupled with simultaneous video glitches. During "Episode 2", it actually throws the audio out of sync for the remainder of the episode.
I highly suspect these files are corrupt at the server side. Just checking to see if anyone else has had similar issues.

Sorry, but there's no way to know. Apple doesn't pre-announce additions (except for limited pre-orders on albums) and there aren't any alerts for specific shows except for season passes which don't really apply to the Dr. Who Classic shows where every full story is a "season".
You'll just have to keep checking back from time to time.
    Regards.
