Video Glitching- Lines and Patches on Screen

Hello.
This morning my three-year-old iMac G5 began exhibiting video glitches. The glitching occurs at all times, including the gray bootup screen. The display appears to be streaked all over with coloured lines which change colour and pattern when I move windows and objects around on the desktop.

An additional strange symptom is that this first occurred when I started up World of Warcraft. Now the above behavior occurs at all times with or without WoW running. 3D graphics in WoW are highly distorted, stretched and blocky.
I am aware of the iMac repair problem, although my serial number does not match up, and my iMac is second generation rather than first.
This seems very unusual, and doesn't seem to match many other graphical problems mentioned on the forums. Has there been any other issues similar to this reported?

"An additional strange symptom is that this first occurred when I started up World of Warcraft."
Are you playing this game off of a CD/DVD or is it installed onto your HD?
Which OS are you using?
*A couple of things to try prior to visiting your local AASP:*
Max out your RAM. Your system info confirms you only have 1GB.
Boot from your System Install DVD & run the repair disk/permissions option(s). If this works, then I suggest that every time you play WOW, afterwards repair permissions directly from the HD & restart your computer. However, you really should consider maxing out your RAM.
Mac OS X 10.4 Help-My Dispay Doesn’t Look Right
If the above is of no help then you will need to do the following:
System Preferences>Display>Display
Check the Colors & Brightness settings.
My Color setting is set to Millions which I believe is the default setting.
Now click on the Color button.
Check Display Profile
Is Show profiles for this display only enabled or disabled?
If necessary click on the Calibrate button & do the necessary.
Now in the bottom right corner, click on the purple button w/the black ? mark in the middle. This will bring up the help window.
Midway down, click on the Colorsync Utility link.
The next window should be Profile First Aid.
Read & follow the instructions/details of About Profile First Aid: & do the necessary to Verify & Repair.

This really isn't something that we can help with. We're just other Mac users like yourself, only we don't live in Pakistan. (None of the experts who participate here live in Pakistan, to my knowledge.)
This problem should be covered under warranty, but if there aren't any authorized Apple service providers in Pakistan, getting warranty service may not be easy. But I wouldn't have the slightest idea how to handle such a problem in Pakistan. You'll need to contact Apple. The number for Apple in Pakistan is listed here:

  • Help - ipod shows red lines and displays white screen?

This is the 3rd Ipod Touch, 4th Generation, I've had in 2 years.  Something has been wrong with each one of them.  The one I have now is only 2 months old and unfortunately my Apple Care Warranty has expired, last month.  I was not allowed to purchase a new Apple Care warranty for the new Ipod, so basically I am stuck with another "lemon".  Here's the problem, this time.
My Ipod shows 2 thin red lines which extend half way across the screen from left to right, upper left corner when holding Ipod vertically.  sometimes when turning the Ipod on, the screen is almost all white and I can barely see the time and "slide to unlock".  It always happens when I plug into power.  Also, the red lines flash bright white at times and then extend across the entire screen.  If I take a picture of it, (holding down power and home buttons) it looks normal.
Has anyone else had such a problem?  Can anyone suggest a solution?  I'd like to take this to Apple and say, "What the heck?"  Is it policy to replace a defective product with one that they wouldn't sell in their store but is OK to give as a replacement?  I love my Ipod Touch, but this is extemely frustrating!
IPod Touch, 4th Generation, IOS 6.0.1

I have not seen that problem here before. Likely a hardware bproblem but
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
iOS: How to back up your data and set up as a new device
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
I'd like to take this to Apple and say, "What the heck?"
    Do that but nicely
Is it policy to replace a defective product with one that they wouldn't sell in their store but is OK to give as a replacement?
No. The replacment is a refurbished one that should work like new.

  • Flickering or shuddering in FCP videos on line and on DVD

    HI,
I have edited a 12 min video in HD on Final Cut Pro, with 1080i HDV on a MacBook Pro. I am trying to put videos on the web with Vimeo and Blip.TV and make a SD DVD on DVD Studio Pro, and so far all the videos flicker, especially in the parts with lots of movement. I have tried deinterlacing, and it does not make a difference. I have tried output into different forms and these all flicker when on blip tv or Vimeo video hosting websites.
Does anyone know what format and exact settings to export these videos from FCP in, and if I should use compressor or not?
I have tried posting a similar question and got no answers, and look on the web for answers and everyone seems to have a different answer. I need to finish this project asap and this final step is really holding me up.
    Thanks for your help!

Oh yeah, the video is HDV 1080i. But my final output needs to be in SD. I tried cutting and pasting the movie into a new SD timeline, but every clip needs to be resized, that would take forever!

  • Why is my iPhone 5 screen glitching up and freezing? iOS 7.0.3

I bought an iPhone 5 brand new as my phone with Sprint at the beginning of September this year (so it is just over 2 months old). I have never had an iPhone before so I updated to iOS 7 basically as soon as it came out and didn't really have any troubles with it. I waited to update it again and got iOS 7.0.3. and I think the glitching MAY have come along with it.
When it first started, I would be using my phone and scrolling down the page but then the pixels will discolor in a vertical line pattern and I can still see what is on the screen. I would press the center button and it would go back to the screen and I woul wait for the pixels to return to normal. Now, however, it is getting more severe and there are random patterns of vertical lines and the screen will gradually go to white and freeze up. Then, when the backlight automatically goes off and I press the top button, then it will backlight a black screen and I can't do anything. When I tried to take a screen shot, the photos came out clearly without any issues.
I got really worried because tonight it stayed like that for about 10 minutes and when I plugged the charger into the phone, it didn't do anything.
Here are some photos that show the problems I am having:
This was when I opened a pin on the pinterest app. (I apologize for the quality of the photos, they were taken on my old mac)
This was after I opened the app store. You can see the line issues, discoloration, and distortion of the top menu.
In the last photo you can pick up the discoloration around the flower and horizontal discoloration of lines.
I have had my phone in an Otterbox the entire time that I have owned it and have not dropped it or had any water issues (dropping it in water, spilling water on it)
What is going on with my phone? I am very worried and would not want this mess to prevent me from receiving a phone call or text. Please help!
    Thank you,
    Erika

You can zoom before you start taking a video, but not after you start the video. Sorry.

  • I have a new Macbook Pro.  When watching Youtube videos, it works perfectly until I attempt to watch the video in full screen.  When in full screen, the video freezes immediately and the audio continues.  When minimized it works fine as before. Help?

I have a brand new Macbook model A1502.  I am taking online college classes that incorporate youtube tutorial videos.  I can watch the videos if I don't maximize the screen to full screen.  When in full screen, the video freezes immediately and the audio continues uninterrupted.  I can press escape and go back to the previous screen and the video continues to play with no problems.  Can anyone help me please?  This machine is literally just out of the box with maybe an hour of use.  Thanks in advance

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

  • MSI 7870 - Red flickering lines and screen flicker

About two weeks ago I was at a LAN with a couple of friends, where my computer had a couple of random BSOD's (Temperature was in the okay range in spite of the room temperature) - Then a couple of days ago, my screen has started having random red lines flicker across the screen and some odd boxy flickers of either pure white or parts of the rendered screen (like if you had cut out a portion of the screen and threw it around the desktop)
I've tried Furmark at some fairly extreme settings for a good fifteen minutes while observing, as well as performing a RAM test of the card (Though I could only get it to test a Gig for some reason) and nothing.
This odd behaviour isn't exclusive to while I am playing - I've also had it happen some twenty minutes after closing a game and watching something on youtube (It has happened twice while typing this post)
Does anyone have any suggestions for some tests I can throw at it to try and achieve a consistent provocation of it? It's hard to RMA a card that randomly shows problems that I can't seem to catch on tape or screenshot.

If you are so sure what to do and what causes such issues you should be able to help yourself then.
Maybe I should considering the welcome one is receiving - It's not like I'm posting a generic "OMG why doesn't this work", I've given a fairly detailed description of the error as well as tests performed up to this point. But hey if you think the Processor is causing graphical errors, by all means lets run a Burn in test of that.
Edit: Somewhat unsurprisingly it ran ten cycles without any errors, or graphical glitches. Temperatures maxed out at 75c for Cores 1 and 2. 0 and 3 at 69/65

Did you already try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again? You will not lose data by resetting, but it can cure some glitches after installing new software or apps.
If this does not work, set it up as new device, explained here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137
If still no luck, get it serviced by Apple or visit an Authorized Apple Service Provider next to your place and let them have a look at your device.

  • MPlayer, zoom=1, and video glitches

My girlfriend has a computer with an ATi card in it.  We're running xorg without a config.  We added zoom=1 to ~/.mplayer/config, but when the video is scaled, lines blip across the screen on sudden changes in the video.  We're using the x11 driver in MPlayer.  Every other setting makes the video either very slow or it doesn't display at all.  Any ideas?

You did not mention your computer (speed, processor).
Does it meet the minimum requirements as stated on this page?
Do other downloaded (purchased) videos play fine?
If so, you can report the 'bad' videos, using the e-mail form at the bottom of this page.
If there is a problem with the files, you normally will either get a refund or allowed a re-download when the problem is fixed (based on reports of users).
Also tell them that you downloaded (and payed for them) twice.
    Hope this helps.

  • C320 Display lines and jumping screen

    Hi Everyone
This is my first posting on here.
I am using a Lenovo C320 All-In-One computer, I've had it since 2012. During the past several months I been having these lines towards the top half of the screen. First it started off as one, then the more use I been getting out of the computer the more lines have appeared, but have been tolerable. Now the screen is beginning to jump, any idea what is the cause?
    Thanks
    Srees

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
You might return it to Apple, and ask them to fix it correctly this time. Generally, issues that start while under warranty, but are not fixed, will be covered, but it's on a case-by-case basis.
What you describe sounds like a video circuit issue, and with the video circuit embedded on the logic board, replacement is the solution, as Apple did when you took it in for repair. You can run the Apple hardware test, or use one of the TechTools products, to test the video circuit.

  • Occasional Vertical Lines and Black screen

Hi. My powerbook just went out of applecare coverage in August. In May, my display started to flicker, going black with about 7 vertical purple and blue lines on the left side of the screen. I ran fsck, etc., and nothing was wrong. It only happened briefly at first, so I ignored it, but eventually it happened so often that I couldn't work for more than 5 mins, so I decided to go to the mac store. The mac store could not replicate the problem, but sent it out for repair. A new keyboard and logic board later and everything seemed to be fine. At least until August, right when applecare coverage ended. The problem is now happening rather infrequently, but I'm concerned that it will again become permanent like last time. Given that I am no longer covered, I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to fix this myself. I've run fsck but nothing appears to be wrong. The fan is also over-working itself lately, which didn't happen the first time around. Thoughts?

  • Blue and gray/black vertical lines on start up screen.

At start up my 2008 MacBookPro brings up a blue and black/gray vertical lines covering the entire screen. It has a large image of the power button and tells me "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button for several seconds or press the Restart button". We've tried that. It restarts, makes the start up noise and gives the same prompt with the same blue and gray vertical lines in the background. Any idease on what our problem is?

MacBook Pro (Early 2008): Dark bands showing intermittently on built-in display
MacBook Pro: Distorted video or no video issues .  The affected computers  were manufactured between approximately May 2007 and September 2008.

  • IPhone 5 App Store keyboard glitch -- persistent green lines at bottom of screen

I just brought home my new black 32GB iPhone 5 from the Verizon store.  After using it for an hour or so, and switching over to WiFi, I entered my Apple ID password in the App Store to (re)download an app.  My password requires me to switch to the ".?123" keyboard.  The bottom ~1/5 of my screen became fuzzy, as though the keyboard overlay was sticking around longer than it should have.  After a short time, glitch resolved to a state that's been "permanent" - vertical green lines.  These green lines fade in slowly after I wake the screen from sleep.  They've persisted through multiple power off > on cycles, a hard reset, and even through the upgrade to iOS 6.02.  Interestingly, screen captures do not seem to grab these green lines.
Any ideas on how I can fix this, or am I going to have to get the phone replaced?

I think this is normaly. I've had some issues (gone through 6 replacements - not trivial issues, dead home button, dead camera, dead wifi that kind of thing). I noticed this on the 3rd replacement and everyone since. People are claiming that they have received "flawless screens" (whatever that means). I think the Sharp pannels are the ones that don't show these interlacing lines and AU Optronic pannels do. I have experience with AU Optronic pannels and everyone that I have ever owned (Motorola Xoom, PC Monitors, etc...) have done this. It is too bad that Apple settled for this manufacturer, but it is a gamble whether you will get one that doesn't do it. It is normal and within specs as most the iPhones at this point with have AU pannels due to Sharp's shortage.
The geniuses will likely not replace an iPhone for this reason. If you have AppleCare+ and have an incident in the future, perhaps you'll get lucky and get a sharp pannel put on to replace the AU pannel. But, there is no way to know which phones have which pannels.
Interestingly, I checked at the Apple store and 50% of the display models did it, and the genius that I spoke to's iphone 5 did it. You can find wall paper that is alternating black and white lines one pixel in width and it will cause the screen to flicker. Like you, I REALLY wish that apple DID NOT choose AU Optronics and if I had known I would have waited to purchase, but now I have it and cannot return it. I may sell it and move back to my previous phone. Given that the #1 selling feature is the retina display, it is disappointing to see a low quality pannel used. I really like the iPhone, but this is pretty much a deal breaker - and not knowing if you will get one that does it, or doesn't makes it very hard to "trust" a future production. I would rather have waited for the Sharp pannels and delayed getting an iPhone due to supply issues, than Apple finding an alternative, lower quality, source to produce them.

  • VERTICAL LINES ON HALF OF SCREEN AND UNRESPONSIVE

I have a 6 plus 128 gb gray ATT and all of a sudden half of my screen had vertical line and was unresponsive I took screen shots bit it wouldn't show so I took pics and video from my wives iPhone 6 and also my iPhone restarts all of a sudden even in calls. I made an appointment with apple for tomorrow they better fix it!

Either the display is out or the board is going out.  Either way book a genius bar appointment or walk into one to get on a waitlist.  This will not be something you can fix on your own.
