Video goes directly to iMovie?

Does my video from a third party camera – via connection kit – go directly into iMovie or do I have to stop filming and then upload to iMovie?
I want to capture golf swings and analyze right away.

The CCK downloads files, it does not stream video. After downloading the movie vile to the iPad you have to open it in the Video app to view it.

  • Video recorded directly into iMovie 11 is out of sync

I opened iMovie 11 on my brand new Lion MacBook Pro and recorded a video directly into the built in camera. As the video was recording I could see it starting to delay the video and image. As the video went on it continued to get further and further out of sync. Replaying the clips in iMovie showed that the out of sync issue was still present. But if I play the recorded clips through QuickTime the clips are in sync.
I continued to edit the piece hoping that it was just a preview issue. But after optimizing clips and exporting to Quicktime the out of sync issue is still there.
In summary - the raw clips are in sync in QuickTime. Anything viewed or output from iMovie 11 is out of sync.
I've been reading through the forums and tried some suggestions such as detaching the audio. This does not work. I "Optimized the Clip" (which was a direction in official Apple Support) and this did nothing.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Exactly the same here. It starts fine for about a minute and a half, but then it slips and gets progressively worse.
It's making me really mad too, because I can no longer just turn on iSight and record. I have all the latest updates, in fact I just did the main system update today as well.

i need any videos i shoot on my iphone, to go to the cloud automatically (when i get an icloud account). the demos show pics and docs going directly, but the demos are ambiguous about short videos i shoot on my phone....not backed up nightly, but available soon.  help?

Since photo stream doesn't support videos, you would need to use an app to do this.  Dropbox may be a good choice as I believe once enabled, all you have to do is open the app and it will automatically upload photos and videos taken since the last upload to your Dropbox account (see https://www.dropbox.com/help/289/en).  If you aren't familiar with Dropbox, it's a very popular cloud service for hosting files and other media.  Amazon just announced that its Cloud Drive service will soon support photos (http://9to5mac.com/2013/05/10/amazon-launches-cloud-drive-photos-app-for-iphone) /; perhaps it will also be extended to support videos at some point.

  • Import home video DVD's into iMovie

I want to import my home video DVD's into iMovie for editing and backup. What is the best way to do this? I have already tried creating a disk image, but somehow when I open these images with iMovie, some parts of the original video are missing. (for example the video on DVD is 60 minutes, but the video opened on iMovie is 50 minutes). I also tried to convert to MPEG 2 using MPEG Streamclip, and purchased the MPEG2 Playback component from Apple Store, but it turns out that this component was intended for earlier versions of OS X, so I could not even install it. I am currently at a lockdown, please help me out!!!

There are directions on the MPEG Streamclip website on how to get the MPEG2 Playback component installed on your computer (I'm assuming your running Mac OS X 10.7). I'm cutting and pasting them here in case someone else runs into the same problems.
    From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it.
To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. You don't have to install QuickTime 7.
Also read the information for Snow Leopard below.
Snow Leopard and MPEG-2 Playback Component
The Snow Leopard upgrade DVD released on August 28, 2009 may wipe the content of the /System/Library/QuickTime folder during the upgrade process, and delete your MPEG-2 Playback Component installed in that folder. To use MPEG-2 files with MPEG Streamclip you have to reinstall the MPEG-2 component or restore it from a backup copy.
If you are going to upgrade to Snow Leopard
Open the /System/Library/QuickTime folder and drag the QuickTimeMPEG2.component file to your desktop to make a copy of it. Then upgrade to Snow Leopard. When the upgrade is complete, open the /System/Library/QuickTime folder again and move the QuickTimeMPEG2.component file from the desktop to the /System/Library/QuickTime folder (enter your administrator password if necessary).
If you already upgraded to Snow Leopard
You have to reinstall or restore your MPEG-2 Playback Component.
If you have a Time Machine backup of your System folder, then open the /System/Library/QuickTime folder, enter Time Machine and go back in time until you see the QuickTimeMPEG2.component file; select that file and then click Restore.
If you purchased the MPEG-2 Playback Component from the Apple Online Store, then you probably still have the DMG file that contains the installer. Use Spotlight to search for "QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg": if you find a file with that name, double-click it and then in the disk image, double-click the installer package for Intel Macs.
If you purchased the MPEG-2 Playback Component from the Apple Online Store but you can't find the QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg file, you can download the file again from the Apple Online Store if you remember the Apple ID used when you originally purchased it (if you forgot your Apple ID then go to Apple iforgot). Visit the Apple Online Store, click on "Account" in the store menu, then click "Downloadable Software Purchases," enter your Apple ID and password, and click the link to the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component to download it again.
If you obtained the MPEG-2 Playback Component from the installation of Final Cut Studio, then you can reinstall it again from the Final Cut Studio DVD. Insert the DVD and use the Finder's Go menu > Go To Folder... command to get to the /Volumes/Final Cut Studio/Installer/Packages/ folder inside the DVD. Locate the QuickTimeMPEG2.pkg or the QuickTimeMPEG2Pro.pkg installer: double-click it to reinstall the MPEG-2 component.

  • How to dump .mod directly into iMovie without having to convert to .m4v?

I cannot dump my video directly into iMovie 9 from Canon FS200. It goes to a document which I then have to laboriously convert - one clip at a time - to .m4v using Handbrake. Only then will iMovie take them. How do I bypass that conversion and get video directly into iMovie?

Yes. It can be done. But Math script can not evaluate all functions in .m files (There are some exceptions).

It is not sufficient to disregard running your Matlab code in LabVIEW based on a few exceptions without first thoroughly evaluating the impact they have.
If you want to stick with Matlab in your implementation, then there are other avenues than hypotethizing about the limited portability issues of using MathScript in your project?

  • I need a digital camcorder that imports direct to iMovie - any ideas

I have been using a MiniDV JVC camcorder to import direct into iMovie - worked great but the camcorder heads are now worn out. So I use an Hitachi HD flash card camcorder that outputs AVI files. I then have to convert through Handbrake to get a useable file for iMovie.
This is much too slow as I produce lots of short video for customers - is there a better direct camera to get files straight into iMovie or should I use different software on the mac?
Last resort, I have been told to buy a pc to use for producing edited DVD movies - I don't really want to move off the mac - HELP?

    Wow...good question.
Do your FCP setups have capture cards? You could send a signal from the toaster machine to FCP via the capture card and recapture the footage in FCP. Will take a while, but it should work.
    Tough working with proprietary formats.

  • I imported videos from photo into iMovie when I set up iMovie (obvious mistake) and now iMovie doesn't work properly, nor can I move specific videos into a folder where I want them. How do I fix this?

I imported videos from photo into iMovie when I set up iMovie (obvious mistake) and now iMovie doesn't work properly, nor can I move specific videos into a folder where I want them. How do I fix this? I even tried deleting iMovie, bought a new copy and installed it, but the folder "iPhoto Videos" is still there and I can't get new clips loaded to iMovie, especially where I want them. Please help.

The iPhoto Videos do occasionally have problems. I've seen a lot of people write messages to this Discussion group describing similar problems. The only thing that seems to get around this problem is to pull the video clips out of iPhoto then import them directly into iMovie. Once the troubles with iPhoto Videos starts, I haven't yet seen anyone write back with something that they did to fix it.
The most difficult part of doing this is the movies in iPhoto might be a little difficult to track down. But you can create a smart alum that does that for you. Go to iPhoto > File Menu > New Smart Album:
Set the first pulldown menu to keyword, second to contains, then in the last box type Movie with a capital 'M'. Then click OK. This smart album more or less does as search of the whole iPhoto Library and only displays items that match your search tearm of "Movie" exactly. In that smart album then you can find the original Movies you want to move out of iPhoto and into iMovie, <CTRL> click on the Movie clip, then choose Reveal in Finder. That will jump you out of iPhoto temporarily and into the iPhoto Library folder. From there you can move that movie file to the desktop. Move all the clips you want, once they're all collected up go to iMovie and go to the File Menu > Import Files. Then point it to the desktop where you moved your video clips.
This will put all those videos into an Event folder in iMovie and bypass iPhoto Videos altogether.

I am importing a video and in iMovie the video is now white. the audio still plays and I can play the video properly outside of iMovie so any help is good?

I going to recommend again, downloading and installing some video helper applications.
    1. http://perian.org/ (this will add a number of different file types to the ones QuickTime already plays)
    2. http://www.divx.com/en/software/mac (will add more file types to what QuickTime can play)
Either one of these might be necessary to get MPEG Streamclip to export the video. Failing that the only other thing I have found is an obscurve discussion thread on Avid.com:
    http://duc.avid.com/archive/index.php/t-277791.html
I've figured out what the problem is on my end. The video came from Avid on a Windows machine and was encoded with Squeeze. I found out that the 2 seconds of black at the top of the video were at a different frame rate than the rest of the video. I chopped off the 2 seconds of black and started at the first frame of video, exported it with Quicktime Pro and was able successfully view the video in ProTools. Apparently Squeeze will let you create a movie file that has different frame rates within the same movie... This fixed my issue that was exactly as you describe, hopefully it might work for you.
Lastly, you could try converting the video clip using HandBrake

  • I would like to capture live sports directly to imovie

I would like to avoid the time consuming step of uploading data to imovie.   One work flow that is time consuming is film event, then upload 1 gig of data and then edit.  There must be a way that I can elegantly turn on my camera and transfer in real time the data to imovie.

Hi EZ Jim, and thanks.   This is a good work around.  However, I wish to use either my Sony HD camera or my older digital tape camera.   The Sony HD has a USB out and also a mini HDMI out. My laptop has FIrewire in. The older camera has a firewire out port. It is not HD quality but I can modify the scale to 16:9 and it is just a slightly less quality image.
I can get results... ie record directly to my laptop.   But I have to click "capture" in the window that pops up and gives me the choice of inputs (the onlaptop icamera or the connected camera).  And then when the play stops I push the stop.   This gets the 'footage' directly onto my Mac Harddrive.  But it seems clunky.  I was hoping there might be a more elegant solution out there.
    You're welcome, Cap'n!
Because you posted your topic in iMovie for iOS, my initial response offered help for the iOS version of iMovie.  However, your latest post seems to describe how you connect your camcorders to your laptop's OS X iMovie.  If your question is about recording directly into your Mac's iMovie, see Record video directly into iMovie.
If you don't need any other suggestions from us users who post here, you can send your comments or suggestions for improving your specific iMovie version directly to Apple by using the appropriate Apple product feedback page:

You are not likely to get a response, but you can be certain that the responsible Apple people will see your input for consideration in future iMovie product development.

  • Location of video captured from within iMovie?

When capturing video directly from iMovie using the built in iSight in my macbook Pro, where are the video files saved on the mac?
    Thanks.

I knew about the project file, though I was not sure if the actual video media was embedded within it.
This project does not have any imports, it was used to capture new video.

  • IFrame import DIRECTLY into iMovie 11

How do I import iFrame video DIRECTLY into iMovie 11?  I recently upgraded from iMovie 09 to iMovie 11.  Also, I bought a new camera (Canon) and it has
iFrame.  I recorded a test video in the iFrame mode.  I opened iMovie.  If there is a way to get iMovie to grab the video directly from the camera, I cannot find it.  Previously I used a Panasonic Lumix.  iMovie 09 would grab the AVCHD directly from the camera. I found a workaround to get the iFrame directly into iMovie, but it entails an extra step.  (the iFrame video showed up in Iphoto 11 along with the stills.  I then moved it from IPhoto to imovie via the desktop.)
Surely there is a way for iMovie 11 to grab the video directly from the camera, and I am missing it.  I am running Mt. Lion.   Please help.  Thank you.

I drag the movie from iPhoto to the desktop.  Then, in iMovie, I use the "file" dropdown menu.  From that menu, I select "Import" and then I select "Movie" and then I select the movie that I have just dragged to the desktop.  It would be easier if I could drag the desktop movie directly into my iMovie, but it will not drag.
