I have read your post on how you are not able to play certain games on your notebook computer, and that installing graphics drivers does not resolve this issue. Which games are you attempting to play on your notebook? Is this a recent or reoccurring issue? I would be happy to help you, but first I would encourage you to post your product number for your computer. Below is a is an HP Support document that will demonstrate how to find your computer's product number. In addition, it will also help if you indicate which operating system you are using; and whether your operating system is 32 or 64 bit. The more information you can provide, the better!
How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
Which Windows operating system am I running?
Is the Windows Version on My Computer 32-bit or 64-bit?

  • [p7-1240] How can I tell which graphics cards will work with my motherboard?

I recently went through the nightmare of trying to install a Gigabyte GTX 650 in my PC. After a few days of struggling and scouring the internet for answers, I discovered that it is incompatible with the BIOS on my motherboard, and HP does not offer BIOS updates. I returned the card and am now looking for a new one, but I am unsure of which cards will work now, since my computer met all of the system requirements for the graphics card, and It stil ldid not work. Since GPU manufacturers do not list BIOS specs under system requirements, how can I tell if a graphics card will work with my sytem?
My computer is a p7-1240 with an upgraded 520W PSU and approximeately 11" of room to install the card.

    Thexn, welcome to the forum.
The problem is, many of the newer video cards require the computer to have a full UEFI BIOS.  HP began using one in mid-October, 2012.  Before this date the BIOS is Legacy.  This is why the video card didn't work with your computer.
I don't know what you want to spend for a card, but MSI makes a GTX 750ti that has a hybrid VBIOS.  It has a switch to change to Legacy or UEFI.  There is a video link directly below the picture of a card.  Paul from Newegg gives a full description of the card.
I like EVGA cards the best.  Their Tech Support has given me a lot of information about their cards.  However, you have to go back to a GT 640 card to find one of their cards that doesn't require the UEFI BIOS.  They do have some updates for their BIOS'es that solve the problem, but you have to call them for the exact cards.

  • Video/Graphic Card Upgrade

    Hello,
I am looking to upgrade/replace my current video/graphic card to new one so that I am able to do video/photo editing (Adobe Photoshop CS6)
I am using Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Service Pack 1
Here is my Video/Graphic Card infor:
    Adapter: Inter(R) HD Graphics Family
        Current resolution: 1920x1080
        Refresh rate: 60
        Version: 8.15.10.2291 (1/27/2011)
    Graphics memory: 1,696MB
    Aero status: Enabled
    Thanks for your help.

Here are the System Requirements for PS CS6.
The problem that you are facing is, the power supply unit (PSU) in the computer is 300W.  Any of the video cards that will work properly with it will not be much better than the Integrated Video.  Therefore, it will require a PSU upgrade, as well.  I normally recommend at least 500W, but 600W is better for future upgrades.  I like Corsair products.  Any standard ATX PSU will work.
Now, for a video card.  The video card that you buy should be PCI Express x16.  A generation 2.0 or 3.0 will be backward compatible, but you will not get full benefit of it.  I recommend finding a card that you like and making a template of it.  If the card has extra PCIe power connectors, you should add at least 1" to the template.  This will help you determine if the card will fit into the space provided.  Here is a card the will do what you need.  You should definitely make a template to assure that it will fit into the space provided.  If not, it will give you a good idea of what you need.

  • Do I need to replace video graphic card or power supply unit on hp compaq presario sr2180nx

    hello all
i saw a similar post over 4 years ago, however it doesn't address my issue.
my pc started stalling when i attempt to turn it on.  It wouldn't come on. Then after several tries every now and then it would come on. I was told through searching that it could be the video graphic card or the power supply. Therefore once i had the computer back on.  I never shut it off. However, i could reboot and it would come on.
Now it won't come on again. So i don't know what to replace. The video graphic card or the power supply.  If it is the graphic card, do i replace the one previously installed or add a new one. And if adding a new one, what is recommended to be compatible with my 300 watt supply unit? I'm lost as what route to take and how.Below are the details of my unit.
HP/Compaq Presario SR2180NX desktop PC with a P5LP-LE motherboard with an Integrated graphics using Intel GMA 950.
*Integrated video is not available if a graphics card is installed.
Also supports PCI Express x16 graphics cards
    300 watt supply.
thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

Is there an add-in video card in the slot? If so, remove it and try to turn on. If the problem is the video card it will turn on. If not it is the power supply.

  • How can you tell if your video/graphics card is failing?

I have been playing World of Warcraft for over 7 months now (insert geek jokes here), and I have never experienced the problems that I have been experiencing with WoW this weekend.
I was hoping that it was just a connection/internet issue with WoW, but when i play on my laptop (and older Powerbook G4), screen loads aren't slow like they are on my Intel iMac.
Yesterday and today have been horrible. I'll get disconnected at least 4-5 times (which NEVER happens) and when I am finally logged into my account for game play, it's horrible lag. And even then, it takes a while for the background or other characters to load.
I'm worried that it's my video/graphics card and might be failing. How would I know if this was the case?
I am still hoping it's just a connectivity issue and has nothing to do with my card. But I don't know at this point.
    I'm very frustrated.
Any help and/or advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Suzanne

Wow, ok, sounds like you are on the exact same path that I'm on. I'm a WOW player also, have had my iMac since 2008 (and play wow alot, raiding, etc) and recently it fried it's graphics card. I just replied to your thread about HDDs... so please see that response.
I'm convinced it's a heat issue and I have a feeling the latest OSX update may have changed something about the fan speed that caused extra heat to build up. Just a theory.
Anyway, your options are very limited for "fixing" a screwed up graphics card. Hopefully you have AppleCare, otherwise you're looking at ~$500 to fix this.
I'm not going to bother. Just bought a new monitor and graphics card for my 4y.o. Windows machine and will be using that from now on. I'll miss the Apple display and the operating system, but the hardware doesn't make me happy at all.
    Good luck!

If you can see an image on your screen then your graphics card (Intel HD Graphics 3000) integrated into your 13" machine is working just fine.

  • Video graphics card after wiping dv6000 clean and starting over with windows 7

i recently had a virus on my hp pavilion dv6000 notebook and it ate pretty much everything. the person who worked on my computer just started it over new with windows 7. this notebook was originally windows vista. i have tried to install the sims 3 which i have just bought brand new and it keeps saying that the video graphics card is not supported. i went to the update i found on hp.com but there isn't a choice in the systems options for windows 7 on this notebook model. what do i do now?

seems like sims 3 does not support your hardware w/c is your graphics card. updating drivers wont do much
but still if you want to update your graphics driver try going to hp.com and place in the search box your laptops product number and the hit enter, look for software and driver downloads link and you will see therer all the applicable updates for your hardware..

Lets start out with that is an antique system with limited options because it only has PCI slots and no normal video card.  The card you are asking about does have "High Definition 3D Performance & Image Quality to Your PC"  If you are considering getting one, try the EBay market as this is really old hardware and you can get one for near nothing.  For Example: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Visiontek-Radeon-X1300-Graphics-Card-256MB-128bit-900106-/191175474229
Just make sure the one ordered is the PCI version.
There are other possible choices: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814187213

    Hi @Aashish_92
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you had a blue screen, and now the NVidia card is not working, after reinstalling your operating system.
I am happy to help with this. What method did you use to reinstall the operating system? Did you use system recovery?
After reinstalling the OS, did you make sure that all the system drivers were updated to the current ones from the HP support page for that notebook? HP 15-r033tx Notebook PC Drivers

  • Video/Graphics Card to raise Windows Vista Readiness Score

If your like model desktop PC is like mine, then your Vista Readiness score for video/graphics/gaming is the lowest of all of the scores, or somewhere under 3. I would like to improve that score with an add of video/graphic card. I am not looking to go too wild, I just want to bring that score up to be on par of the rest of scores of 4-5 to a little over 5. Is there any recommendations from anyone who has tried this. What card did you use? One that will not eat up too much memory The addition of more memory will be my first step ahead of this one. I am not into gaming much, I just want my PC to work not so hard when displaying graphics and video.
    Anyone, any idea?

  • Sims 3 HELP (video graphics card)

Okay so I play the Sims 3 for around an hour and then all of a sudden the screen freezes up and after a minute or two the game closes and when I try to restart the game a message appears that says:
    Unable to start game.
Device 0 cannot run this title. No supported video graphics card detected. Please check your system hardware.
So apparently I need a video graphics card? Any suggestions on which one?

I have the same problem.  Here's what I posted on the official Sims 3 forum:
When trying to start the game, I get this error message:
    Unable to start game.
Device 0 cannot run this title.
No supported video graphics card detected. Please check your system hardware.
This error just started popping up yesterday. I played all day before I started getting it. I have NVIDIA GeForce 88oo GTS 512s in there, and have no problem playing graphics intensive games. It's pretty funny that I can play Far Cry 2 with the settings maxed out but not Sims 3.
I have seen people mention this error on various other forums around the web, but no one seems to have an answer. I've reinstalled the game, graphics card drivers, and Windows itself trying to fix this. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be?
I see a few other people have had this problem but haven't seen any answers yet.

Slimline s5-1010 - HDMI graphics card upgrade, what graphics cards will work in slimline box?  Cheap will do, under 100.  Has 1 PCI Express x16, but the slot on back of pc looks about 2" too short for this?

    Hi-
I think you will find there are more users of the ATI Radeon 9800 that DON'T have a 300w PSU, than those that do. It would leave out the majority of the G4 line if it were absolutely necessary. As I see it, it isn't absolutely necessary, and, it is also the ONLY higher end upgrade graphics card commercially produced for 2x, 4x AGP systems, most of which, DON'T have a 300w PSU.
My Sawtooth has a 237w PSU, and the 9800, and my processor upgrade, and 2 internal drives, all work just fine!
As for the piggyback connection, that is how you connect the power to the 9800. A splitter molex cable is used to split power from the superdrive connection, between the superdrive and the 9800.

  • Graphic card stops working, then recovers

I recently installed the plug-in for Pixel Bender on CS5.
When I open a jpg, and choose OilPaint, with the check box for GPU, as soon as I hit the OilPaint filter, my graphics card stops working, the screen goes black for a few seconds, then comes back on.  I get a message that the card stopped working, but recovered.
I surmise this is a graphics card issue, or memory, or both?  I don't know for sure.
I'm using an HP PC with 6 Gb RAM, and the card is a Nvidia GeForce 9500GT.  The drivers for this card are all up to date.
CS5's performance settings are:  2 scratch discs (not the boot drive) with nearly a terabyte free space on one, and about 250 Gb on the other.  The program shows about 5.7 Gb of available RAM, and the preferred setting (maximum) is about 3.8 Gb.  I've got it at 3.7 Gb.
When the card recovers, it takes several minutes before I can see the image in Photoshop again.  Then, when I try the filter again, I uncheck the GPU box, click on the OilPaint filter, and get a window that says the process timed out, and gives me 2 options:  try again or cancel.  After about 6 or 7 try-agains, the image will have the filter applied.  It takes another 5 or 6 tries to finish with "OK" and then the image shows up in the pane, in Photoshop.
My computer has a 350W power supply, so the GeForce 9500 GT is the biggest card I can use in it.
Is it a question of an inadequate graphics card?  Or, not enough RAM?
I could install a new power supply for the PC, then get a different card, if that would solve the problem.  But, since I'm not sure if this is what I need to do, could I please have some suggestions on my issue with this whole thing?
    Thanks very much.
    Alan

Thanks for those links.  I missed them, because I just had Windows search for updated drivers, and when I told it to search online, it said that the drivers were up to date.  So....well, I'm sorry I didn't check NVIDIA directly.  I appreciate your help in this.
Anyway, I did install the updated drivers.  I rebooted the machine, just to make sure (I checked the properties of the card, and it showed the updated driver listed).
I re-tried the OilPaint, and the card crashed, as before.  It gave me this message:
"The NVIDIA OpenGL lost connection with the display driver and is unable to continue.  The application must close."  It then closed CS5 (Bridge remained open, though).
It said there was an Error code: 8.
Thanks again for assisting me on this.  What would be the next step to resolve this?
    Alan
