Video/Graphics problems

I am having an issue with my new system:
- I get 4169 3DMarks with 3DMark2001 & 228 3DMarks with 3DMark2005
- Most graphics lock the system up hard requiring a hard boot, even when set to the lowest level of graphics
- Other graphics slow the system down so bad that it's totally unusable, screens may update every 4 minutes
+ I've ran Sandra and it didn't detect any problems.
* Note the games, graphics, etc.  that I'm having problems with were running GREAT on my previous Intel P3 system with same hard drives and graphics cards and with far less memory.
Configuration
- MSI Neo 2 Platinum (socket 939) (Bios 1.3)
- AMD Athlon 64 3500+
- 2x512MB Corsair XMS Pro (1GB)
- Nvidia 5200 AGP (128MB)
- 2940 SCSI card
- Modem
- Thermaltake 480W Butterfly Powersupply
- Koolance watercooled case
- 2x160GB Western Digital Ultra IDE (RAID 0)
- Lite On 811S DVD RW+-
- Lite On DVD ROM
- Mitsumi floppy
Please advise...
Thanks!

Well, it looks like I"m going to go for a new video card.  I've been looking on pricewatch for best price on BFG 6800 GT or Ultra.  I would really LOVE to get the watercooled version, since I have a watercooled case, but that's 50% more than the GT model.
Anybody have recommendations on video cards?  I want to pay for quality card, vs the name on the card.  Your recommendations are appreciated!

    Hi sachin.baipadithaya,
I would suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the video card driver from Dell website. Please follow the steps mentioned below to uninstall the video card.
Open the charms bar by moving the mouse to right top corner of the screen and in the search box, Start typing devmgmt.msc and then press enter.
Select the Display adapters listed and right click on it.
    Now select properties.
In the properties window, under Driver tab, click on Uninstall button.
Check “Delete the driver software for this device.”
You want to delete the driver click OK.
After the uninstall finishes restart the system. Then reinstall the video card driver on the system for issue resolution. Please enter your service tag # on the link above, select the OS, then download the video card drivers from Video section onto the system and install it.

    HI,
As for the TopSites issue, read here. Top Sites, Cover Flow features require compatible graphics card
I don't think in your case it's your graphics card, but thought I'd post that link just in case. Try emptying your Safari cache more often, Command + Option + E or go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari and move the cache.db file to the Trash.
If you have any Safari Extensions installed, turn Extensions off from Safari / Preferences - Extensions. See if that makes a difference.
If the problem persists with TopSites, login to another user account on your Mac. See if you have problems with TopSites there.
As for logging into AD. From your Safari Menu Bar click Safari / Preferences then select the Security tab. Click: Show Cookies Remove all Apple related cookies. Relaunch Safari.
If you still have problems logging into AD, launch Keychain Access. Select Passwords on the left. Delete the Apple ID keychain. Relaunch Safari. Try logging in to AD now.

  • MacBook video graphics problem - NOT artifacts this time, but rather boxes

    http://www.johnwaller.org/bb/topic.php?post=167#post167
I document the problem there ... in response to someone asking me about the artifacts problem. I have gone through three MacBooks trying resolve misc. issues, and on my most recent MacBook, I never turne don Secure Virtual Memory is System Preferences, so this is a COMPLETELY different problem.
Anyone have insight on this? I experienced it in 10.4.6, then now in 10.4.7. It seems to be a fix for the artifacts that was instituted in 10.4.7 in response, but it looks like some half-*** bake job by joe-smoe intern working for Apple this summer ....
    grrrrr...
I spec in with the following:
    Intel Core Duo 1.83
    100GB 7200 RPM Serial-ATA drive (replaced 60GB drive)
    1GB of DDR2 (2x512)
    the rest is stock.

As far as I can tell, the switching from 10.4.6 to 10.4.7 on my MacBook FIXED the artifacts problem, yet created this NEW problem.
So, I did in REVERSE what I would have done in 10.4.6 to fix the artifacts problem, which NOW I'm 10.4.7 and thats.... to turn Secure Virtual Mem. ON in the Security section of the Systems Preferences.
Whatever THAT DID, I fixed my problem. I haven't experienced the problem since about 3 days ago and I use my computer pretty hard-core ... so I WAS going to run into this problem, I would have experienced it by now - I believe.
SO .... no official fix, but it DID seem to resolve my question here....

  • Video(Graphic) Problem

Hello there. I just bought a lenovo ideaPad n580.Everything looks great till i open youtube and play some video.
Than even on the highest  resolution 1080px the video is not good i can see squears(pixels) and the video is not smooth is pixelate.
Also when i play video on 480px looks like 280px,even worse....
I will be really thankfull if some of you guys have any suggestions.
    Thanks in advance.

Some Youtube 1080p videos are heavily compressed thus making those pixelated images on your screen. Try searching for "4k videos" and make sure you set the video to "original" quality in the gear button. You should have no pixelation and be amazed by the quality of the video. I recommend watching this on "original" quality Timelapse 4k on Youtube.

  • Do I need to replace video graphic card or power supply unit on hp compaq presario sr2180nx

    hello all
i saw a similar post over 4 years ago, however it doesn't address my issue.
my pc started stalling when i attempt to turn it on.  It wouldn't come on. Then after several tries every now and then it would come on. I was told through searching that it could be the video graphic card or the power supply. Therefore once i had the computer back on.  I never shut it off. However, i could reboot and it would come on.
Now it won't come on again. So i don't know what to replace. The video graphic card or the power supply.  If it is the graphic card, do i replace the one previously installed or add a new one. And if adding a new one, what is recommended to be compatible with my 300 watt supply unit? I'm lost as what route to take and how.Below are the details of my unit.
HP/Compaq Presario SR2180NX desktop PC with a P5LP-LE motherboard with an Integrated graphics using Intel GMA 950.
*Integrated video is not available if a graphics card is installed.
Also supports PCI Express x16 graphics cards
    300 watt supply.
thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

Is there an add-in video card in the slot? If so, remove it and try to turn on. If the problem is the video card it will turn on. If not it is the power supply.

  • MacBook Pro 15" video card problems (i think)

Can anyone tell me if this is indeed a video card problem?
    MBP 15" info (Dec. 2011)
Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB
    OS X Lion 10.7.5
    This is what happened:
I use my mbp heavily because I edit a lot of videos with Premiere. I also use lightroom / photoshop alot + games. I also installed Parallels desktop late 2013. I don't know if that is relevant but anyway. Everything started late 2013 (a little after installing parallels actually) when there are moments when the audio wouldn't work and I couldn't adjust the volume. It would come back anyway so i didn't mind it. Then the fans were on high speed for little activity. After that the keyboard backlight couldn't be adjusted and wouldnt work. I ignored all of these cuz i wasn't troubling me at the time. In January i left for france to study - I use bike all the time and once stupidly placed my laptop on the basket going to school (rough roads). I had a class with html so I had to open Parallels, my teacher pointed out the fans and how loud they were. That day, parallels desktop said i must upgrade to windows 9 or it will restart every 2hours. I didn't of course. I didn't have time to.
After that (a few days later i think) my laptop would randomly turn into a black screen but it's still on (the power LED is on) I tried turning it off by pressing down the power button and then turning it back on. It worked the first time. During the first week, the frequency of it happening grew. It would do it almost 3 times a day. during that same week I tried to do an SMC reset. It fixed the keyboard light, fans and audio but not the black screen thing. It just keeps on happening around 1-3 times a day. It only happens when I'm using it btw, never when I just leave it. ALSO, after a few days, it would take longer hours to open my mbp again. I mean, the screen would turn black. i would turn it off, then on again. I will ONLY hear the hard drive moving but no startup sound and no grey screen and apple logo. nothing.
The following weeks after that, I asked a friend to help me out. He suggested that I install gfxCardStatus because he said it might be my video card. He instructed that I keep it on intergrated only. So I installed that and did what he said I thought it worked for a while because the black screens stopped happening (even when gfx keeps on going back to dynamic) BUT NOW, MY LAPTOP WOULD FREEZE (not turn black). I'd shut it down using the power button but it still takes me hours to open it again. Sometimes, I'd wait for the battery to drain because it would startup when i charge it (sometimes)
    I tried doing AHT as well to confirm the video card problem, but the results are no problems found. I really don't want to replace my logicboard here in france. everything is more expensive here. ;__;
Today I uninstalled parallels to see if that might have had anything to do with my problem now but i think that's just wishful thinking.
Can somebody tell me if this is really about the video card? Thank you

  • How do I add more memory to integrated video graphics on Satellite L30

I want to allocate more memory to my video graphics.
    How do I do this?
    I'm using Vista Home OS.
    Many thanks.

My laptop model is SL30 (PSL33) and I'd assumed it was shared graphics.
I've maxed the RAM to 2GB, but since upgrading to Windows 7, I keep getting video graphics error messages for games I could play before in Vista.
Toshiba doesn't seem to have an updated graphics driver for Windows 7 yet, and I'm guessing this is the problem.
Does integrated graphics simply use all the RAM you have available or do you have to manually increase it?

  • How can you tell if your video/graphics card is failing?

I have been playing World of Warcraft for over 7 months now (insert geek jokes here), and I have never experienced the problems that I have been experiencing with WoW this weekend.
I was hoping that it was just a connection/internet issue with WoW, but when i play on my laptop (and older Powerbook G4), screen loads aren't slow like they are on my Intel iMac.
Yesterday and today have been horrible. I'll get disconnected at least 4-5 times (which NEVER happens) and when I am finally logged into my account for game play, it's horrible lag. And even then, it takes a while for the background or other characters to load.
I'm worried that it's my video/graphics card and might be failing. How would I know if this was the case?
I am still hoping it's just a connectivity issue and has nothing to do with my card. But I don't know at this point.
    I'm very frustrated.
Any help and/or advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Suzanne

Wow, ok, sounds like you are on the exact same path that I'm on. I'm a WOW player also, have had my iMac since 2008 (and play wow alot, raiding, etc) and recently it fried it's graphics card. I just replied to your thread about HDDs... so please see that response.
I'm convinced it's a heat issue and I have a feeling the latest OSX update may have changed something about the fan speed that caused extra heat to build up. Just a theory.
Anyway, your options are very limited for "fixing" a screwed up graphics card. Hopefully you have AppleCare, otherwise you're looking at ~$500 to fix this.
I'm not going to bother. Just bought a new monitor and graphics card for my 4y.o. Windows machine and will be using that from now on. I'll miss the Apple display and the operating system, but the hardware doesn't make me happy at all.
    Good luck!

  • X230T - Major Windows 8 Graphics Problems

    Hi all,
I own a X230 Tablet with the Intel HD4000 running Windows 8 Release Preview. I know it's still a beta but I was just wondering if anyone else has run into major graphics problems on Windows 8 Release Preview. I'm currently using the most up to date W8 64 bit Drivers from intel.
There is a huge amount of clipping, flickering and white backgrounds being shown as black. The apps I've noticed this in are OneNote MX (whenever pen input done), Windows Reader (All PDF white backgrounds are shown as black) and Internet Explorer 10 Metro (Tab previews have black bacgrounds). This is strange to me, though I've found at least one other X230T owner with identical problems.
Pictures, videos and descriptions can be found here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-winapps/intel-hd4000-onenote-mx-w8-reader...
Just wondering if Lenovo engineers are aware of this issue and if a fix exists/ is being worked upon. It's somehwat fustrating as it makes many core Windows 8 experiences unsuable (which was the point of buying a touch screen laptop).
    Thanks

  • Video signaling problem caused by 1.9, 2.0 BIOS (pointing out a BIOS problem)

Hi, i have a problem with the video signal. At random times when i boot up my computer, the computer would power up but there is no signal to the monitor. there is no hdd activity (via the hdd led) and nothing seems to be happening just that the fans are whirring. i have to unplug the computer then plug it again then turn it up again which sometimes repeats the problem. This is very irritating! So i did a little bit of troubleshooting:
    1. I changed video cards. I used a SAPPHIRE ati radeon 9600XT fireblade and a LEADTEK GF4 ti4200. Both cards were causing the same problem and when i used both cards to another computer, there is no problem. = NOT A video card problem
    2. used differnt kinds of drivers Cat 3.10, 4.10, 4.20 (omega and official) does not seem to do anything (which also i believe the drivers are OS dependent and its the bios of the vid card that starts up the vid card)
    3. upgraded from 1.9 to 2.0 BIOS. still the same problem
    4. reverted from 2.0 to 1.7 BIOS. the problem ended.
    BTW, the board is 865PE-Neo2 - S. on a Intel 2.6Ghz C, 512MB TwinMos ram with m-tec chips, 80gb hdd, enermax 300w psu
so ive' solved the problem, and i just wanted to point out that there is a problem with 1.9, 2.0 BIOS. (havnt tried the 1.8 tho)

Wish I had seen this thread 2 weeks ago, but you did save me from buying a new graphics card.  That was the last step (before chucking this mobo completely) in my attempts to fix the same problem.  It didn't bother me too much, except I also couldn't get any DVD player (tried 3) to work.  Would boot sometimes and at others gave a blue screen video error.
Flashing to bios 1.7 was the only thing that fixed it.  Tried different memory, updating software, various combinations of drives, etc.  For the record I tried bios 1.8, 1.9, 2.0, and 2.1.  Not sure what about those updates causes problems but there definitely is something wrong.
    Thanks.

  • 24" iMac (1st Gen\White), Graphics Problem(s)

Hi, I will have had my iMac for two years on Thursday (Christmas present, in a way) and it is currently starting to exhibit some weird graphical problems, horizontal lines are appearing in various applications, at random times, but the weird thing is that they stay in that app when i move the window around and I can take snapshots of them. I posted some to my MobileMe Gallery: http://gallery.me.com/mam693#100105
I installed Leopard on an iPod and those lines even showed up on the install DVD as well as the clean iPod making me believe its a hardware issue.
Now, I have been reading that other people have had similar problems and have had to pay around $800 to get it fixed, if anyone could confirm, I would greatly appreciate it. Or if anyone has any other suggestions they would be gladly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Matt

    Hello,
This sounds like a video card issue but if you haven't done so, check the hard disk for errors.
    To check the hard disk:
Open Disk Utility, in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder.
Insert your Mac OS X Install disc in your computer’s optical drive or an optical drive connected to your computer, and then restart your computer. When you hear the startup tone, hold down the C key until you see the progress indicator, which looks like a spinning gear.
Follow the onscreen instructions until the Menu Bar appears with the Utilities menu in it, choose Utilities > Disk Utility, click First Aid, and then click the Verify button. If DU reports errors, click Repair. When it's finished, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Disk. In the Startup Disk window select MacintoshHD 10.x.x and click Restart.
If it were me, I'd back the system up and erase the drive just to make sure it isn't a hardware issue and not have to shell out $$$$$.
    Reinstalling Mac OS X
Under some circumstances, you may need to reinstall Mac OS X. You can reinstall Mac OS X while keeping your files and user settings intact.
NOTE: To reinstall Mac OS X from another computer on your network, see this topic:
Using Remote Install Mac OS X
    To reinstall Mac OS X:
Insert the Mac OS X Install DVD and double-click the Install Mac OS X icon.
Follow the onscreen instructions. In the pane where you select the destination disk, select your current Mac OS X disk (in most cases, it will be the only one available).
    Click Options.
If you want to save your existing files, users, and network settings, select “Archive and Install,” and then select “Preserve Users and Network Settings.”
If you want to erase everything on your computer and reinstall Mac OS X, select “Erase and Install.” You can’t recover erased data.
    Click Continue.
Click Customize to select which parts of Mac OS X you’d like to install, or click Install to perform a basic installation (recommended).
NOTE: If you selected “Erase and Install” in step 3, you may need to use the Applications Install DVD that came with your computer to reinstall your iLife applications (GarageBand, iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, and iWeb). If you are prompted to use the Applications Install DVD, insert the Applications Install DVD, double-click the Install Bundled Software icon, and then follow the onscreen instructions.
If you purchased a standalone version of Mac OS X, these installation instructions are in a PDF file located on the Mac OS X Install DVD.
If you need to reinstall the version of Mac OS X that was on your computer when you purchased it, or if you need to restore all the software on your computer, including Apple software, third-party applications, and other printer drivers, review the instructions in the manual that came with your computer.
If you need to reinstall Mac OS X and you’ve been using Time Machine for backup, you can easily restore your applications, files, and user settings from your Time Machine backup disk after you’ve reinstalled Mac OS X.
    Happy Holidays!!!

  • 24'' iMac 2006 graphic problems

I have an old iMac which I am planning to give away for free. It is a 2006 24 '' iMac with 2,16 GHz IntelCore duo processor. It had originally 1 GB RAM, but has now 4 GB RAM installed .
The latest OS it had was iOS 10.7 Lion, and there were some graphic issues where parts of the screen was really odd.
I cleared the HD and did a clean install of iOS 10.7 Lion using the recovery HD partition, The installation proscess was uneventful, and with no graphic disturbances. But as soon as I started using the machine, there was again graphic problems. I also got som of the "You need to restart your computer...." messages.
I then again cleared the HD and did a clean install of iOS 10.6 Snow Leopard from a SL DVD. Again an uneventful installation, but the same graphic problems when using the machine.
I repeated the proscess and did a new clean install of iOS 10.7 Lion, this time from an installation USB stick I made some years ago. Same thing.
I then cleared the HD once again and did a clean install of iOS 10.5 Leopard from a DVD. This time I was really optimistic because everything looked so good. But after using the iMAc for some minutes, there are again graphic problems. It seems the problems are less with Leopard than the other iOS I have tried. SOme times the screen looks normal, sometimes there are horisontal stripes across the screen, and sometimes part of the screen is really disturbed.
During the installation proscess there are no graphic issues.
I have repaired permissons, reset PRAM and using Disk Utility to repair the HD shows nothing wrong.
Does anyone have any ideas what is wrong? Is it a hardware or a software problem? I do not want to use much money or much time on this, as this is really an iMac I do not use anymore.

It's not software. It's consistent with a graphic card/logic card problem.
I have an iMac, and I'd be obliged if you could satisfy my curiosity. What kind of computing have you done? Pretty routine web browsing and email?  Gaming and video editing? Have the temps gone up very high at any time while using it? Did the problems happen after your latest upgrade? Have you tried downgrading the OS?
    Thanks!
