Video iChat problem using AIM (Routing through 2nd NIC)

routing iChat for AIM
I have a Mac Pro with both ethernet cards connected. ethernet zero is connected to my office network and ethernet one is connected to a back channel DMZ. I do not have Access to the office router and it's been configure to prevent chat. I have added routes to the table for ethernet 1and am able to chat through AIM with my wife on the iMac at the house with no issues. However when I establish a video connection it errors out. I've made sure that I have both the initial and establish connection IP's routing through my back channel. But it doesn't seem to work. If I turned off the office LAN, I have no problem connecting using video chat.

as I said I can still chat, I just cannot use video chat unless I disconnect the office network. I need to leave the office network as the default route. Suggestions would be appreciated, not sure if iChat problem or routing problem.

Umm,
Not so much as a Bug but a feature.
iChat has been designed with a level of security in-built.
When you send a Visible Invite it is just that, away to trigger the other end to pop up a window.
iChat then engages in the SIP part which includes a text based connection method called SIP (Session Initiation Protocol).
This involves a behind the scenes invite and a check to see that the IP the Visible invite went to is the same one the SIP bit ios going to. (remember you can log in as many times as you wanton different apps and computers to the AIM servers), but is essentially to make sure you are connecting to who you invited.
This SIP Process is very much like an old fashioned operator call in that you call the operator they call the operator at the other end who calls the Buddy, he answers his operator who confirms he is willing to chat... etc.
As with a telephone call you want to make sure you are talking to the right person.
Like a telephone iChat has to be in "one place" in relation to the internet.
Unlike a corner plot house it can not have one "number" in one street and another in the side road (even local authorities and postal service ignore this).
The process in other IM apps is mixed.
Skype spreads it's connection over as many hosts as will accept them meaning your call could be using 30 or 40 other end users to spread that load.
Of course this also increases the ports in use giving you less security overall.
Some do seem "better" at ignoring secondary connections the way Web Browsers do.

  • Receiving slow video from PC using AIM 5.9.5

    Hello,
I am attempting to set up an AV chat with my mother-in-law so she can see her new grandson. I have a PowerPC G4, 867 MHz and bought an iSight camera. I am running MacOSX 10.4.5, and using iChat3.1.4. She has a 1GHz PC (dell i think) and using AIM 5.9.5 program. She turned off her firewall, and before she bought a camera at her end, I was transmitting a one-way video and audio feed very well- without any alterations to my computer or router settings. Now that she has a camera, we have been attempting to video chat from both ends, but her image is very slow and freezes after about 5 min. On the other hand, she sees my image clearly, and the audio is clear.
I have been reading the old posts and have played around with my router settings as well as telling her to do the same. I have configured my Linksys router (BEFW11S4 ver 2) as instructed on the mlvdesign tutorial page for port forwarding, I have no firewall set on my computer, I do not have the Virex program, and I installed the DashOff script to turn off dashboard application.
Her camera is the new Fusion from Logitech, and she says it is plugged into a high speed USB port. When she views her own image on her computer, it comes in clear and appears real time. However, when she initiates an AV chat and I accept, her image starts off as a black screen with squares filling slowly. Once her image is established, it is pixelated in large squares and freezes. When I initiate the chat, her image is better (image delayed between audio and visual), but slowly gets worse until it freezes after about 5 min. The audio continues fine.
Other information: I have a cable modem from Adelphia, and I checked the speed of my cable modem using dslreports.com:
    Your download speed : 2027 kbps or 253.3 KB/sec.
    Your upload speed : 296 kbps or 37 KB/sec.
I am slowly going crazy trying to work this out. Is this my computer's problem or are her settings still off? I am trying to convince her to get the Trillian program instead, will this help? Or do I need to get the new Apple MacBook Pro...

    Hi Ihutnick,
Welcome To The Apple Discussion Pages.
    Ok do this.
    Start a chat.
You open the Connection Doctor at your end.
She clicks on her preview which is behind your incoming Video (Tabs)
WHen the preview is at the front a small icon appears to the right
    She should click on this.
    A slider appears.
She should slide it slowly to the left.
You should see the Bitrate and Framerate go up in the Conection Doctor.
Try for 15 Frames a sec but 10 is more likely.
This may not do anything for the Freeze (It tends to be unsolvable).

  • Problem in dynamic routing through ESB

    Hi All,
I am trying dynamic routing through ESB, So I created routing service in my esb with WSDL of BPEL Process1 and a soap service with same wsdl. Then created a xsl transformation. In this xsl transformation I added below code to route to BPEL process 2.
    <xsl:variable name="LocationIn"
    select="http://PC-HP249:8888/orabpel/default/SyncBPELProcess2/1.0/SyncBPELProcess2"/>
    <xsl:variable name="LocationOut"
    select="ehdr:setOutboundHeader('/shdr:ESBHeader/shdr:location',
    $LocationIn, 'shdr=http://xmlns.oracle.com/esb;')"/>
But when I am invoking this ESB through another BPEL process, Got below error message:, Is there any solution for that , I am using 10.1..3.4.0, (JDEV, and BPEL).

  • Contacting iChat Buddies using AIM from an old iMac

I currently use AIM (v. 3.0N) on an old iMac (OS v8.6). I want to chat to a couple of buddies who have recently switched from AIM to using the latest version of iChat with OSX v10.5. I have successfully added their screen-names to my AIM setup, but wondered if I now need to e-mail or phone them to ask them to add my screen-name to their new iChat setups (they haven't yet appeared online)? Or will iChat automatically notify them - as with Windows Messenger - that they are now on my 'buddies' list (next time then sign on) and give them the option to accept or reject (so-to-speak)? Yan (UK)

    Hi
You need to tell them your screen name or wait till they come online and text them.
    "will iChat automatically notify them"=no

  • Ichat connection problems using AIM....need HELP!! PLEASE!! :)

Hello to all. I am experiencing problems connecting a video chat with a friend of mine. We both have AIM and have the most updated software, but it still won't work. We can see that each other are online, but when we try to connect, we get error msgs and it cancels the chat.
Please help, I am not sure what is going wrong....
    Thanks!

Do either of you have a local firewall enabled that might be blocking a port?

  • IChat & WinXP using AIM: they see/hear me, I only see myself

I realize others have asked permutations on this, but here goes. I'm using new iMac Intel Core Duo, OS X 10.4.5, and iChat 3.1.2 (factory installed). I have a 10Mbps cable internet connection that goes directly to my Airport extreme. I then connect wirelessly to my iMac. Trying to video conference with a relative who is using a new Dell, Windows XP, and AIM 5.9. We are both able to initiate a video conference. She sees and hears me, and also sees herself. But I only see myself via the built in iSight--I don't hear or see her. I don't see a picture in picture. Not even a blank window comes up.
I have used the tester aliases and have good reults with both PC and Apple sites. I have also opened (enabled) the ports for iChat AV as described in previous threads.
    Any suggestions????

    Hi ducivr,
The PC end needs to Tune the App to the camera and Mic.
This set of instructions was written for AIM 5.5 and the access to the properties has changed. This is now in the MY AIM menu in the Buddy list and then Options Then Properties.
After that the instructions are the same.
Also the Application has to be enabled through the XP firewall. If they have Service Pack 2 installed then there is a Firewall Control Panel that gives you more precise access. Instructions are here for that.
Early versions of XP will have to have the Firewall Off.
Lastly their modem will have to be set to UPnP if they have it.
If not they may have a preset for AIM Video in their Port Forwarding settings.
Failing that AIM says that AIM uses port 1024 to 5000 as well as logging on on port 5190. See paragraph after item 6
AS there are so many routers and modems they may find this page a help.
Click on the device name > Choose AIM Video form the list on the next page and you will be directed to the instructions for Port Forwarding.

  • Audio and video sync problem using itunes player

When I play a movie using itunes it starts out okay but after a few minutes the audio and the video are no longer in sync. Anyone have a solution for this problem
    Dennis

    I have the same problem.
    Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-MA785GPMT-UD2H
    Chipset:
    North Bridge: AMD 785G
    South Bridge: AMD SB710
Video: Integrated ATI Radeon HD 4200
HDMI Audio through the HDMI out port to one of the TV HDMI in port.
Tried on Windows 7 Pro 32bit and Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit.
Tried with the integrated ALC889A audio device enabled and disabled (It seems that the video card drives the HDMI audio device, because it still appears in Windows even if I disable the Audio device in BIOS).
    Latest iTunes and drivers installed.
Apple, any suggestions? I'm not having a great customer experience after buying a pair of HD movies in iTunes.

  • Mac osX question regarding persistent LAN problem using Linksys router

We are eight months into this problem.
I had this up on the apple help board 6 months ago but could only get a band aid fix for the problem.
(The "band aid" is explained on the link below.)
We have since exhausted 3 other professional help folks.
We are using the WRT54GS ver. 5.
Before we were using BEFSx41 ver. 2 and we had same problem.
The full description of the problem can be found on this page...
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9062933#9062933
ANY well thought out suggestions deeply appreciated.
    Thanks.

Sorry dude, definitely sounds like a mac problem (i.e. editing the cnf files on mac s). Unless you are blocking a special service, which you probably aren't, then its definitely not the router. The reason I say that is all traffic gets transferred at layer 2 of the OSI model, in this case. IP addressing is layer 3 (router/network layer). Short answer is all traffic gets "switched" via mac address, not ip in this case. Your router here is more like a switch that provides dhcp and a default gateway to get to the internet. Any unknown mac (media access control, not mac/apple) traffic will get "routed" to the wan.

  • Video display problems using QuickTime 7.5.5

    Hi,
I am currently having issues displaying videos in all formats in Quicktime 7.5.5, particularly those with a medium or large frame size.
A link to a screenshot is given below:
    http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=Pq2IbXxS
As you can see, the video is not displaying properly - some of the left-hand side of the frame is being replicated on the right-hand side, in a sort of split-screen effect - I don't know the technical terms for that problem, but it is a bit annoying to say the least!!
I have noticed that smaller videos (e.g. some mobile phone videos with a 176x144 size) are not suffering this problem with video display - but the questions I have are: what is going wrong, and how do I fix this?
Thank you in anticipation of your help!
    James (mr_m)

Still having the problem unfortunately; if anyone can help, it'd be appreciated!

  • IChat 5.0.3 to AIM 7.5 video chat problems.

I could use some help, please?
I have a cousin that live in another state and she wants to video chat with me and my mom.
My mom and I have Macs with Snow Leopard and iChat 5.0.3 and my cousin has a PC with Windows 7 and AIM 7.5. Both computers are notebooks and have Webcams built-in.
Whenever we tried to send a Video chat invitation from the PC to the Mac we would get a connection error on the Mac, but when we tried the same thing the other way (Mac to PC) it would go through and we can video chat. I am trying to figure out how to make Video chat invitations work both ways, iChat -> AIM and AIM -> iChat.
I have gone as far as changing the IM server on the Mac to match the IM server on the PC. I then tried to change the IM server on the PC to match the one on the Mac and got a connection error on the PC, so I just reset them both to their defaults.
I even went as far as turning off the firewall on the PC but that didn't work either. Now I'm stuck and can't figure out what to do.
Any information you have would help me and my cousin.

    Hi,
    iChat and AIM Logins first
In iChat Preferences > Accounts Server settings the default Login in login.oscar.aol.com if you are not using the SSL option
It will add a leading s if you do and this is an automatic change (slogin.oscar....)
The Default port is 5190 but almost anything can be used (we Suggest port 443) Changing this port sometimes helps with Videos (It shouldn't but does) on some routers (Zyxels).
    iChat and Video to PCs
Firstly Video and Audio chat have nothing to do with the Login port (Although that is used for Text chats)
The AIM on PC app uses 4 ports to do the Audio and Video In and Out feeds
(iChat 3 used to).  iChat 4, 5 and 6 uses just one port to do the Video and Audio parts of the Chat (In and Out)
So iChat will send on port 16402 the SIP Invite (This is the behindf the scenes connection Process).
It uses the same port fro the A/V chat data.
If the PC starts then it sends an invite (SIP) on port 5061
When it connects it sends the data out on 2 ports from within the range 1024-5000 and asks for data back on two other ports (i.e one each for Vid in, Vid Out, Audio In and Audio out).
iChat does this by contacting a Server called SNATMAP.mac.com run by Apple just for connecting iChat Audio and Video chats.
This server helps the app negotiate the ports that are going to be used during the connection process.
    (this happens on port 5678)
Now the Mac Firewall will allow any port that iChat Uses if the Firewall is On and iChat is allowed.
The AIM app is trying to connect on port 5061 when iChat is not already using it and this is most likely where the issue is.
WIth the Visible Invite iChat is supposed to use SNATMAP and this is supposed to "take" over getting the connection established but it seems it is not that smooth.
    Possible workaround
Set the Login port to 5061 in ichat so the port is open anyway in the Mac Firewall.
Also make sure this port is allowed through your router.

  • Using iChat AV and trying to video conference with a PC using AIM

I am trying to create an AV session from my mac to a PC. I am using iChat with an AIM username and the PC is using AIM. Everytime i try to establish a video connection it says that I did not respond. What can I do to fix this?

    HI Helen,
    Just to check.
    He is on XP ?
He is using AIM 5.9 ?
He has Tuned the camera and Mic to the App ?
If he is at Service Pack 2 he has enabled the app through the XP firewall ?
You have the MAc firewall Off.
The ports are enabled in your modem.
Either using UPnP or these actual ports
    5060, 5190, 5678, 16384-16403 for just the AIM stuff.
Have you changed the Quicktime setting to match your download speed ?
Can you and he get any of the people or test accounts o this page ?

  • IChat video conference with PC using AIM

I have successfully connected with my brothers PC and we can see and hear each other using ichat on my side and AIM on his PC. Unfortunately, he only has a one inch by one inch screen the displays the vidio image while I'm enjoyng a full screen using ichat.
Is there anything a PC user can do to increse the size of their video viewing window when using AIM?
    Much appreciated.

You can try trillian pro, which is $25 after the free trial.

  • Problems Logging On iChat using AIM

I am new to iChat and am trying to use iChat AV.
I do not have a .mac account and am trying to use an AIM account.
I can open and connect with AIM when opening from AIM program.
However, when I open iChat AV (3.1.8) it prompts me for my password. When I enter the password I get an error that "iChat was unable to login to the AOL Instant Messenger service because your screen name or password was incorrect". I have verified both and am unable to log into iChat.
I read another posting about the same issue using a .mac account but the issue was unresolved and the answers were a little confusing as to how to solve the problem.
    I am using AIM 4.7
MacBook Pro 15"   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   2.33 GHz Intel

Aim screen name reads as it should.
I checked and have not by accident added it as an @mac name.
Checked the preferences and Running man is there.
The box to check multiple logins had not been checked and I did so.
In addition the password in the preferences had not been added so I added the password. It later showed up as longer when I went back to check to make sure it had taken but I understand this is normal.
I again tried to log on while making sure AIM 4.7 was not running. I received the same error message.
I do remember reading one of the discussions where I believe you talked about possibly taking out the . and maybe the @ for the names. So if my user name was [email protected] it should actually read example123aimcom or example123@aimcom when I open iChat. Did I read that correctly and if so what should it be when I open iChat and check my preferences?
Regardless, I have tried it multiple ways and still get the same error message about the password being incorrect and can not log on.
      Mac OS X (10.4.10)
