Video import from HandiCam = no file created

I’m trying to import some footage that was recorded on a Sony 8mm Handicam ( model DCR-TRV330  NTSC)  into iMovie (version 10.0.6).  I’ve got the camera hooked up via firewire. I can select ‘import video’ from the iMovie window.  iMovie is able to control the transport of the camera and I can see playback in the iMovie window.
I click on “import”,   the video plays and it shows “recording….” in the top left of the import window.  It also says “No Data from Device” in the top right of the window.  When I’m done importing there is no data file created in the selected library.   In short, everything seems to be working as I’d expect, but there is no video file being saved!
What to do?

Use iMovie HD 06 or iMovie 11. (My favorite is iMovie HD 06.)  Both are readily available on Amazon as part of iLife 06 or iLife 11.  These versions happily work with FireWire.
Also, Apple has removed the ability to set chapter markers with iMovie 10.   With iMovie HD 06 or iMovie 11 one click will set your chapter markers. These markers are automatically recognized by iDVD.

  • TS4558 How to extract/get video(s) from an .iba file?

    Good day! Is there an option to extract videos from an .iba file created using iBooks Author?

    Although the author might have the original video, iBA's video optimizer has likely changed it and not always for the better. Investigating this kind of issue requires being able to unzip the *.ibooks file (I use "The Unarchiver" which does this well) in order to understand what the video optimizer has done. Very often, one will find an unnecessary increase in bit rate and consequent increase in file size.

  • How do I email video imported from camera?

    How do I email video imported from digital camera?  It is a short video not more than a couple minutes long.   I am using a PowerBook G4.
    Thanks for any help.

    Video's get big quickly, however, assuming it's not too big, just attach it to your email and send it along.
    This isn't a reliable method because you just don't know what the limits are on both ends. It is much more reliable to use a free file transfer service like Dropbox, Box, Google Drive, Amazon Cloud Drive, YouTube, etc and just send an email link.
    Eustace Mendis wrote:
    You should compress the video file before transferring. Just click on the name video file and go to the File menu. Compress ... is there. The compressed file will have the same name as the original, with a .zip suffix.
    That's not the way to compress a video file. Video files are already compressed using lossy codecs like H.264, and if you apply a lossless codec like ZIP you may end up with zero additional compression. In some cases, applying ZIP to a lossy compressed file may cause the file to become larger.
    The correct way to compress a video is to export it from iMovie (or whatever) with the correct settings for the destination (email, YouTube, iPad, etc.).

  • Import from Server Tabular Project creating a new Tabular DB?

    Hi,
    I have a Tabular database on a server want to make some changes to it, for that I have imported Tabular DB through BIDS and trying to makes changes, and what I see is every time I import the tabular DB its creating a New DB on the server with <DBName><UserName><GUID>.
    Is this the Tabular Model behavior or an I missing anything here?
    How to make the changes to the existing Tabular?
    Thanks

    Hi SQL_Gun,
    According to your description, you want to modify an existing tabular database. Right?
    In Analysis Services Tabular mode, once the "Import from Server" project is created, the Workspace database will appear in the Analysis Services instance specified in the
    Workspace Server property. The name cannot be set in the Properties window. The default setting of Workspace database is the project name, followed by an underscore, followed by the username, followed by an underscore, followed by a GUID. In this
    scenario, I suggest open the original project which created that tabular database. Modify the project and redeploy it.

  • How do I get video imported from an iphone not recorded horizontally to look non-distorted?

    How do I get video imported from an iphone not recorded horizontally to look non-distorted in imovie? thanks

    You can't edit a video out of iTunes.
    You would have to edit the video from the original film, either on your computer, or iPhone.

  • Video import from PAL camcorder

    I have just bought a Canopus ADVC110 which converts analog video to digital and have it hooked into my Powerbook Pro via a firewire lead.
    I have my analog PAL camcorder tied into the canopus and am attempting to import some PAL video but not getting very far.
    I fire up iMovie and it does indeed detect the camera but when I create a new project it appears as DV-NTSC and not DV-PAL. I have changed the 'New Project frame rate' preference from 29.97 to 25 but still no good. When I click on Import I get the video/audio but the video is VERY jumpy and in black and white and the audio is totally garbled. As the video is PAL and the project says DV-NTSC this might be the issue? I would have thought that the Canopus would remove any PAL/NTSC issues as it is being converted to digital anyway? I don't know how to change the new project from DV-NTSC to DV-PAL, again I thought switching frame rate to 25 would have done this?
    So, can anyone help me get a smooth video import onto the Apple? I dont care what resulting file format is as long as I can import and play it. I don't mind buying a different video application if necessary and do have Toast Titanium if that helps.
    Many thanks,

    It sounds like you may not have set the dip switches of the Canopus correctly to PAL.
    See page 16 of instruction manual for the canopus ADVC110!
    (I use the same one)

  • Video import from Canon A640 now hanging iPhoto

    Hello,
    I used to be able to import pictures AND video AVI files from my Canon A640 camera, but since I don't do video that often, at some point (I'm not sure exactly when) when I import into the latest iPhoto it just hangs with the beach ball.
    If I move out the AVI (from the memory card) and import just the photos, no problem.
    The gist here is something changed in iPhoto to now hang when it hits a video file. I now have to use VisualHub to convert the video to MP4, then import into iPhoto.
    Any ideas?
    P.S.
    I initially thought iPhoto was maybe trying to convert the video, but after ~8 hours just sitting there beach balled, I killed it.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions. How big is the movie file that you're having problems with. iPhoto is known to balk at importing very large movie files directly from the camera. If you use Image Capture or a card reader you can upload them to the desktop and then import into iPhoto without incident. I don't know what the cutoff point for the movie file size is but there is one.
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
    Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Unexpected Quits while trying to import from a .xls file

    When I decided to purchase Iworks I was under the impression that numbers was capable of importing documents that had been created in excel. I have now tried to do so a number of different times with different files (all with the file extension .xls). Each time, I get an error message that says the following:
    The application Numbers quit unexpectedly. The problem may have been caused by the LSCompatibility plug-in.
    I am a rooking Mac user and any help you can provide would be appreciated.

    As far as I know, iWork (without a s) was never depicted as opening _"all Excel documents"_ but as _"opening Exel documents"_ which means that it open _many of them but not all_ .
    Is it surprising that it is unable to open documents created with an Excel version introduced after the Numbers creation ?
    To get it able to open them, you will have to wait for the next major version.

  • Import of GM midi file creates "No Output" drums

    After about an hour and a half of searching forums for a solution, I've mostly just found a few workarounds. Here's a few threads of similar problems-
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2147823?start=0&tstart=0
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3543280?start=0&tstart=0
    Workaround solution-
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2313358?start=0&tstart=0
    "...what happens when you "import MIDI into Logic" is probably that it creates external MIDI tracks. They don't have any sound source to trigger sounds from, that is why there is no audio output. Try creating a Software Instrument track, insert an instrument plugin there, then copy the needed MIDI events on it from one of those External MIDI tracks. After that Logic MUST produce sound, provided audio settings are all correct."
    ================================================================================ ===============
    A buddy of mine with virtually the same Logic 9 and MBP setup has no problem with importing GM MIDI files, but me, not so lucky. I can get it to work in the end if I use the above workaround with creating new Software Instrument Tracks, setting them up, and then copying over the midi data region. It seems like I must have a preference setting set incorrectly or a corrected file.
    Questions:
    1. Any idea why some Logic setups have no problem with importing GM MIDI files correctly and others do? I did not see any solutions after reading a ton of posts. (Just the above workaround.)
    2. Is there a way to adjust a track that comes in as what appears to be set up for an external instrument (shows "No Output") and switch it over to a standard Logic Software Instrument track? I can't find any way of doing this by right-clicking on the track and changing the output choices. Again, I have the above workaround, but is there a quicker way?
    3. Also, if I do try to change the output of a "No Output" track to a working imported track via right-click: Reassign track/ Mixer/ Software Instrument/ Instr 1-  Grand Piano, these 2 tracks are now joined at the hip and when I try to change the newly reassigned track to the proper instrument, it changes the orginal track also. Same with muting one of these tracks, both get muted. Is there a way to separate them from each other?
    Thanks,
    Dave

    Yesterday I needed to install Logic 9 on an old G5. It took forever because the Apple Superdrive was broken and I needed to go to my MBP and create disc images, copy them over, and install from those, but it's done now.
    The first thing I did was check to see if when I imported the same MIDI file I ended up with the "No Output" on some tracks. Nope, it came out just fine.
    Since no one has responded here, I'll go back to my usual routine of notating the issue and using workarounds and move on with my life. Hopefully, we'll see Logic 10 this year and some of this silliness will go away.
    Thanks,
    Dave

  • Disk Utility 'Disk Image from Folder' looses file create date?

    Hi,
    I have been working on creating backups that maintain the files' create dates. I have found the following anomoly using Disk Utility.
    If I create a Disk Image From Folder, the create dates of all files are changed to be the same as the last modify dates. Not what I want.
    If I creat a Blank Disk Image, and then using Finder to copy the files to the Disk Image, the create dates remain unchanged.
    I can then burn the backup CD's with the Disk Image and the files' create dates are maintained. So, future restore from the backup CD will contain the original files' create dates.
    Does anyone know if Disk Utility's Create Disk Image from Folder is supposed to loose the files' create dates? What other file attributes are being lost? Mac OS X maintains all of these attributes, and create dates via Finder copies, I would expect the Disk Utility Create Disk Image from Folder to do the same.
    Bob Horton

    To follow up on this post, I know at least part of the answer. The difference between the two becomes clearer if you read the documentation (man pages) for hdiutil and asr. Image 1 will be created in file mode, whereas image 2 will be in block mode, ie bypassing the file system. Image 1 will consist of a series of files, whereas image 2 will contain a series of blocks, mirroring the original layout of the hard disk.
    Technically the latter should be faster to restore (in block mode), although Apple recommend the first procedure (see man page for hdiutil). I haven't seen any evidence that images created in block mode can be mounted or restored, although you might be able to burn such images to a optical disks if applicable.
    As I've pointed out in another thread (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1508199&tstart=0) I believe that this functionality should not be offered in disk utility, and I consider it a serious bug.

  • Trying to import from different csv files into multiple JTables

    This might seem like something that isn't commonly done, but I'll see if anyone has done this before anyways.
    I currently have a JTable (tab #1) and it successfully reads in the data from a CSV file to populate the cells. Now, I am looking into making 3 more JTables. I can tab between the four different tables, but I can't seem to figure out how to get the data to go to the correct JTable. Tab #1 = table, Tab #2 = table2, Tab #3 = table3, Tab #4 = table4.
    Thanks.
            try
                FileInputStream fileInput = new FileInputStream ("upcoming.csv");
                BufferedReader InputCSV = new BufferedReader (new InputStreamReader (fileInput));
                line = InputCSV.readLine(); //start reading into the records.
                    //Create data for the table.
                    //the row variable = starting row
                int row = 0;
                while(line != null)
                    tmp = line.split(",");
                    for (int col = 0; col < columnNames.length; ++col)
                        data[row][col] = tmp[col]; //store cells' data to the 2-dimensional array.
                    row++;
                    line = InputCSV.readLine();
                }//end of WHILE-statement.
            } //END of TRY-statement.
            catch(Exception e)
                System.out.println(e);
            }

    I have been successful in my quest to get 4 different datasets into 4 different JTables. The previous posters suggestion to use the Table model led me to this page:
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/api/javax/swing/table/TableModel.html
            TableModel myData = new MyTableModel();
            JTable table = new JTable(myData);I had some very similar code in my program. I use the DefaultTableModel and the SortFilterModel before having 4 different JTables.
            DefaultTableModel model = new DefaultTableModel(data, columnNames);
            DefaultTableModel model2 = new DefaultTableModel(data2, columnNames);
            DefaultTableModel model3 = new DefaultTableModel(data3, columnNames);
            DefaultTableModel model4 = new DefaultTableModel(data4, columnNames);I use the code in the first post 4 times, and only change the filename and the data#.
    I also have some code that counts the number of lines that will be needed.
    Thanks.

  • Importing from .dmp.gz file

    Hi,
    I have a mydb_071202.dmp.gz sitting on the mount along with some .log files. Need to import that into my db instance.
    I've never done this before, what are the steps I need to take? Do I need the .log files? Do I run command(s) in the shell or SQL*Plus (or both)?
    Thank you,

    Hi
    you have never mentioned any info about the export file/version/os
    What was the command used to export the DB
    is it exported with full=y option
    It is Export file created and compressed with the gunzip or compressed on the fly
    1.Frist you have to uncompress it gunzip <filename.dmp.gz>
    This will extract int filname.dmp
    Now you have create a database and need to precreate the tablespace if you or else you have to have a similiar file struture so that the required tablespaces will be created automaticalyy by importing the file
    Once the DB has been created you can use the import utility to run against the DB

  • Lightroom: Capture time for videos imported from iphoto is not showing in metadata

    Hi, I imported all my photos and videos from iphoto to Lightroom recently using the iphoto import plugin.  I think all my photos were imported but I noticed that all my videos have no capture time, so they became grouped together in my collections.  But I think I can still see their capture time in the "grey text" in each photo.  Why did this happen and how do I resolve this issue?  I really want my capture times to be in the video metadata and also want to see my videos in the right chronological order with my videos.   Strangely, videos imported into Lightroom directly from my camera SD card do not have this issue, only the ones imported from iphoto do.  Thanks!

    LR does not properly handle video metadata in general, and in particular it often botches capture time.  Sometimes this works:  Select one video, do Metadata > Edit Capture Time, and then click Change All (without actually changing Corrected Time).  If that sets the capture time to the correct time, then you can select all the problem videos, do Metadata > Edit Capture Time, and click Change All.   If you have a small number of videos, you can manually correct the capture time using Edit Capture Time.
    Please see this thread in the official Adobe feedback forum for more details, vote on it, and add your opinion: Lightroom: Metadata applied to videos in Lightroom isn't available in other applications
