Video Import problems

Hi Everyone,
I wonder if someone could advise about a problem? We have a
number of video clips from a client in WMV format and wish to
import into Flash 8. We did this without any problems and created
the flv files using the video import wizard. The client however
wanted us not to include the audio as is was really just background
factory noise. During the video import steps - Encoding, I selected
'Show Advanced Settings' and unticked 'Encode Audio'
Now however the video doesn't import at all and an empty
SWF/flv file is produced. Am I doing something incorrectly or is
there a better way to 'remove' the audio?
Any advice greatly appreciated
Many thanks
Dave

Hi christopher,
If the video is large, iPhoto has a problem importing it sometimes.
My camera can take large size videos so I import all my images and video clips with Image Capture. I put all the images in a dated folder ready for backup and also import them into iPhoto.
I put all my video clips in dated folders and keep them in my Movies folder to use for projects in iMovie and iDVD and they are also easier to backup this way.

Aperture Video Import Problem - from Lumix GH4: Imported clips have their dates changed to the import date.  The files show up on the hard drive with import date not created date, but many of these same files are not showing up in Aperture. Sometimes the clips actually show up with the current import but take on the video information from a previously imported file.

It was suggested I move this question to IPhoto or IMovie which I did.
Well moving to a different discussion group did not provide an answer to this question either. But what I finally did was import one batch of photos and videos into IPhoto for a given day at a time. Working with these I could change the date and times in order to get them in the original sequench taken. Then I would create an album with that batch. These would all be on the same day (IMove was closed for this phase). Then I would open IMovie, generate the thumbnails for that album, and select the album I had created. This was necessary because the importing process in IPhoto was using incorrect dates for my video so it was a real struggle finding them in IMove until I developed this approach.
I believe that this whole process was so screwy because I was importing from an external hard drive not a camera. I had these photos on a PC and did not have the original cameras to use to import directly which I am fairly sure would have made this easier!

  • New Macbook video import problem.

    Hi all,
I have just gone and bought myself a new Macbook Pro and I am very pleased with it. From a video standpoint I plan to use it to import and edit HD video from my Canon HV20. The new Macbook only has a Firewire 800 port and so the cable that I would normally use to connect computer and camcorder will not work as it is 'mini' Firewire to Firewire 400. I am assuming that there is/will be a 'mini' to FW800 cable available, but in the interim I am using a Firewire hub that is connected to the Macbook by a 400-800 cable. And herein lies my problem ! Although iMovie8 detects my HV20, it will not display or play or import any footage from the tape ! It just remains on the blue import screen and although the camcorder is merrily 'playing', no footage is actually making it across to the computer. I think the issue is the Firewire hub part of the connection but I thought it best to garner an opinion from users of this forum. Help !!
    Many thanks in advance, kroguk
    PS
I will also post this on the Macbook forum, so apologies if you see this post twice

Well, I can't find my Belkin FW800-to-4-pin (9-pin-to-4-pin) cable right now ..I'm doing some "tidying up" ..which is always hopeless for finding things afterwards!.. but I DID buy the other day - in the German Mac specialists, erm, can't remember the name - a Sonnet Fast-something (..which I've just put down, and now can't find..) teeny 9-pin-to-6-pin adapter (..so small that I can't find it!..) and I've just tested that with a Sony HC1 HDV camcorder.
    Using the Sonnet adaptor..
..which is mentioned on their website at top-left here: http://www.sonnettech.com/product/adapters/index.html ..on a normal 6-pin-to-4-pin FireWire cable.. I just connected my camcorder and successfully imported HDV from the Sony.
I tested it twice with iMovie HD 6, in the most adverse conditions: 1; connecting to the 9-pin FW800 socket on a G4 17" laptop (..which is generally too slow to import HDV in real-time..) and 2; looped ("daisy-chained") through the 9-pin FW800 sockets (..one socket from the drive to my Mac, the other socket from the drive to the camcorder..) of an external iOmega FireWire drive connected to my Quad G5 Mac, also with iMovie HD 6. Both imports worked perfectly.
I'm also trying it as I write this - I just found the adapter again! - to import into iMovie '08 on the G5, daisy-chained through the external disc (..the G4 is too old or underpowered to run iMovie '08..) and that works as well ..though I did have to "kick" the program into starting a new Event; at first the camera transport ran, but no video imported, so I just Stopped and re-imported.
I bought this adaptor "on spec", as no previous device or adapter had worked properly for me (..converting between 4-pin on a camcorder and 9-pin on a Mac..) and this is the first to have worked, for me. But I have great faith in Sonnet, as they make the extra S-ATA driver card and other bits and bobs which I put in my floorstander G5, and that all "just works".
Ah; the shop where I bought it is ..hold on a moment.. the "m store" in Munich. (Karsten may know them: when Gravis moved from Lindwurmstrasse to Im Tal, the m store opened up right next door to where Gravis had been before) and they're at Lindwurmstrasse 5a, their phone number - they speak English, too - is 0049 89 24 22 35 24 and their website is ..aaaarggh; they don't seem to have one.
Anyway; the Sonnet SimplyFast FireWire 400-to-800 Adapter works perfectly - for me - on the end of a normal 4-pin-to-6-pin FireWire 400 cable, and importing works flawlessly every way I've tried it ..even daisy-chained through an external drive.
    I can heartily recommend it.
But - as always - "your mileage may vary" ..meaning that it might not work so smoothly for you.

  • Video import problem from iphone5 to PC giving error

    Hi evereyone,
I have iphone 5. I try to import my videos but am not able to import all, its giving error. I tried also using windows live photo still same prob. the imported videos have problem in playing. I tried with vlc, quick time, the frames are broken and audio video lag. Please help me how i can import all and rum smoothly.

Every time I plug my iphone 5 into the laptop (using windows 7) the easiest way is to right click on the portable device (iphone icon) and import to my pictures, BUT every time I do this it wants to import ALL photos and videos.
And when you do this, it should ask if you want to import the pictures that have already been imported. Select No.
Then, after you import, the photos should be deleted from the Camera Roll.
After the photos are imported and deleted from the Camera Roll, you can import using iTunes, only the photos you want on the iPhone.

  • HT3481 Panasonic TZ40 camera, single video import problem

Connecting my new Panasonic TZ40 camera by cable to my iMac (lion OS- iMovie 11) uploads stills OK but video is a problem, the camera format is AVCHD. A single video uploads 9 separate files - see below - and without the audio sound track.
.MTS .CPI .CPI .MPL .TDT .TID .BDM .BDM .DAT
The .MTS has a big memory (the others are very small) and will play in VLC player I have on my Mac, but without sound. I tried running it through a video convertor software which converts it successfully to AVI without audio, as you would expect because the original has no sound in the .MTS file.
I was aware that Mac did not readily support AVCHD in the past but was assured by the Camera shop that it was now OK - which it plainly is not. Is there an easy workaround without losing the HD quality, or would I be wise to take it back to the camera shop and choose another camera manufacturer that is more compatible with a Mac, if so what make would other members recommend.
My previous camera was a Samsung which recorded AVI files which I uploaded and was able to import into iMovie without any problems.

I have sorted the sound issue, it was an unrelated problem to the Panasonic TZ40 recording.
However, I think there may be a misunderstanding of the importing of the video/movie from the camera. I import the camera stills and video/movies directly into a computer folder through the Adobe Bridge 'Get images from camera' icon. I do not want to import video/movies directly into iMovie as I do not always need to edit them imediatly (if at all sometimes) and I prefer the originals to be in a folder. I have tried settings of 50 and 50i but still get the same results.
I have converted the .MTS file to a .AVI (and other formats) which iMovie successfully opens, but the .MTS file at 100MB is reduced to 50MB in .AVI and others. My concern is that one of the reasons I bought this camera was for its HD1920 video/movie, if the pre edited conversion is going to reduce the quality then the camera does not do what I asked of the seller.
Basically if I cannot make use of the HD1920 facility in this camera then I need another make which will import an HD1920 video/movie in a format that Mac can hold in a folder and iMovie can import at that quality. If anyone has any recommendations I would be glad to hear them.

  • DVD Backup iPhoto (video import problem)

I have backed-up all my iPhoto events to DVD's.
Now I have imported a DVD into iPhoto. I have all the events back but the video's have the wrong date and time. Also the events are not the same as the DVD.
Does anybody know what I had done wrong?
When I look to the photo's and video's on the DVD (in iPhoto) everything is alright, but not after import them.

This is the way I have done this:
    Back up on DVD:
    - Open iPhoto
    - Insert blanco DVD
    - Select "Events" (with Shift key more events)
    - Share -> Burn
When the DVD is ready and I watch the picture's and video's in iPhoto there is now problem. The events, date and time is good.
    Import DVD to iPhoto:
    - Insert the DVD and open iPhoto
    - Drag and Drop; not possible to import the video's. Message: Not possible to import, ... wrong structure (sorry, tranlated from Dutch)
    OR
    - Import to library; than the video's are imported, but the date and time is wrong.

  • Photoshop Elements 7: Video import problem

    Hi!
I'm trying to import photos and videos from the folder to the organizer. I have no problems with the photos and certain videos(mp4 for example) but when trying to import avi's PE freezes completely. Videos are from my Canon powershot G9 and they work normally for example in Windows media player and in Media player classic. Could it be a codec issue or what?
Can anyone help me on this one? I didn't find any solutions elsewhere.. Thank You!

And it seems that these videos can be imported without problem to the premiere elements.. I  would just wanted them to show up also in the organizer.

  • PS Extended Video Import Problem

I cannot find any other reference to this problem in the FAQs or FORUMS.
I cannot import any video files into PS Extended (10.0.1) without a Photoshop crash. The crash is caused by quicktime.qts file. I have tried to re-install quicktime several times with no success. Every other Quicktime function seems to work well.
I have a newer Intel Quad PC with 2gb memory, 260GB of disk space and a nVidia Geforce 8800GTS video card.
    ANY HELP OUT THERE?!?!?

    John,
Glad that you got it worked out. I was really interested in going to PS CS3 Extended, as I'm doing so much more graphics for video now. Unfortunately, though I've had PS as a standalone for decades (and AI and PM and on, and on), because I had gone the upgrade path to CS2 Production Studio, my individual app. path was cut off. I could only upgrade the full CS3 Production Studio (or whatever the flavor of the month name is) and I only wanted to upgrade PS. Premiere CS3 offered me little and seems frought with problems, so I'll just wait for CS4 to come out and get whichever bundle I'll need.
Other than your above problem, how do you like it, so far? Do you interface with Premiere Pro and AfterEffects?
Unfortunately, I do not know of any resources for this particular program. Maybe by CS4, there will be some good books, and tuts out.

  • Video import problem from mini dv

    Hello,
I have a problem importing footage from a *Canon mv700i* DV camera (via firewire) with imovie 09. I can control the camera but only see pixels when I hit play. This problem has been troubling me for some time. I already found this solution: http://macosx.com/tech-support/mac/v...idv/11613.html
    (the *garageband fix*)
This used to work but now it doesnt and I dont really know what the real problem is anyway. In the past it sometimes worked miraculously but then some days later I have the same problem.
    Could anyone please help me?

    Hi
Canon is known to be problematic when Daisy chained with an external hard disk to Mac.
Here is my unsorted list on this topic.
    Cable
    • Sure that You use the FireWire - USB will not work for miniDV tape Cameras
FireWire - Sure not using the accompany USB-Cable but bought a 4-pin to 6-pin FW one ?
    • Test another FW-Cable very often the problem maker.
    Camera
    • Test Your Camera on another Mac so that DV-in still works OK
    • Toogle in iMovie pref. Play-back via Camera (on<->off some times)
    • Some Cameras has a Menu where You must select DV-out to get it to work
Does Your Camera work on another Mac ?
Sorry to say it is to easy to turn the 6-pin end of the FW-cable 180 deg wrong.
This is lethal to the A/D-chip in the Camera = needs an expensive repair.
(Hard to find out - else than import/export to another Mac ceased to work
everything else is OK eg recording and playback to TV)
    Connections
    • Daisy Chaining most often doesn’t work (some unique cases - it’s the only way that work (some Canon Cameras ?))
Try to avoid connecting Camera <--> external HD <--> Mac but import directly to the Mac then move
the Movie project to dedicated external hard disk.
    Mac
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk ? Please specify the amount of free space.
    (Other hard disks don't count)
I go for a minmum of 25Gb free space for 4x3 SD Video - and my guess is 5 times more for 16x9 HD ones
after material is imported and edited.
    SoftWare
    • Delete iMovie pref file may help sometimes. I rather start a new account, log into this and have a re-try.
    • Any strange Plug-ins into QuickTime as Perian etc ? Remove and try again.
    • FileVault is off ? (hopefully)
    Using WHAT versions ? .
    • Mac OS - X.5.4 ?
    • QuickTime version ? (This is the heart in both iMovie and FinalCut)
    • iMovie 8 (7.1.?) ?
    • iMovie HD 6 (6.0.4/3) ?
Other ways to import Your miniDV tape.
    • Use another Camera. There where tape play-back stations from SONY
but they costed about 2-4 times a normal miniDV Camera.
    • If Your Camera works on another Mac. Make an iMovie movie project here and move it
over to Your Mac via an external hard disk.
(HAS TO BE Mac OS Extended formatted - USB/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange WILL NOT DO)
(Should be a FireWire one - USB/USB2 performs badly)

Hi Bengt W, I tried it all, but nothing worked. Your answer has been helpfull insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos) to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before. Thank you. LKN 1935

camera set to 'Play' , not rec/computer/etc.?
camera not on battery, but power-line?

Thanks for all your suggestions. What I learned is that I had a software problem. I had something called "Nikon Transfer" on my Mac that was recognizing my Canon camcorder as a still camera and was preventing iMovie from working properly. After uninstalling Nikon Transfer and doing a reboot, everything worked great.
I never liked the Nikon Transfer software anyway--I guess I'll get a cheap card reader and use that to transfer photos in the future.
    No Camera or bad import

  • Video import problems from a Sony DSC-HX9V

    Hey There
I have a Sony DSC-HX9V which I've owned for several months now, a Intel based MBP and iMovie 11.
Something strange is cooking and I wonder if anyone could let me have some suggestions of how to solve the issue?
In the past both iPhoto and iMovie has had no problems at all recognizing the camera and downloading photos and video files. I've created projects, burnt DVDs all the normal stuff.
This afternoon though a problem has arisen. Although iPhoto is letting me download photos from the camera, iMovie I guess is not "seeing" the camera. I've done exactly what I think I usually do, but this time its not working. When you click on "Import from camera" the window opens up but only the iSight camera is being used. I've clicked the "camera" drop down but again only the iSight camera is an option.
I've made sure all of my software is updated, no problems there, turned the camera off, turned the MBP off and on numerous times, but still it won't see the camera.
I've spent the last few hours trolling through various posts, even tried shooting video in all of the different quality grades available on the camera, just to make sure, but still nothing.
This Sony camera is definitely compatible with iMovie 11, again I've check and as I mentioned before, I've used it several times in the past.
Any suggestions would be warmly received.
    David

I found this link helpful, I'm going to change the camera settings to 60i from 60p as on post mentions and will report the results http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1009&message=39416949&chang emode=1

  • Canon HF G10 and Lightroom4 video import problems

    Hello,
I have the Canon HF G10 camcorder. I use Lightroom 4 to catalog all my photos and videos.
Lightroom is currently not recognizing the Canon video content. So them I have to import the video through Final Cut Pro and then import that into my Lightroom catalog.
When I do that, the metadata is getting lost, and it is using the import timestamp for the capture time stamp, which will make it really hard to find things later.
Any help on this one, with any step of the process?
    Thanks,
    Julian

I found a solution that works for me and since there are no other suggestions I'll pass it along in case others have this same problem.  What I ended up doing is installing CineForm and using it to convert AVCHD to HD.  It handles the 24p inside a 60i container issue and the converted files, when imported into PP CS4, look perfect.  The only drawback is that CineForm is not freeware but the price was more than worth the aggrevation it eliminated.

I posted this question in the iMovie area, but nobody answered.
Recently when I go to import video from my Canon ZR25 to iMovie 5.0.2, the video is fine but the audio is chopped up as if by fan blades. It's very annoying. This camera and computer worked fine together before. Does anybody know what is causing this and how to fix it? Thanks.

Have you tried it with another cable? And do other firewire peripherals work properly when connected?
