i just recently got a new fifth generation 30GB video ipod. my question is: is there any way i can get videos from windows media player to itunes? like if i download them from a website? also, will i need a converter for this or only for DVDs? i'd appreciate any answer.
    Thanks

I don't know if it will work for .wmf files but if you import the video into itunes and then right click (windows, not sure for MAC) there should be an option for converting to ipod. If that doesn't work I use www.imtoo.com they have some good software for converting files. There's another people seem to like but I started with this one and it works fine. They have one for converting to MP4 files and one that converts DVD to MP4.

  • Rookie Mac User Video Import Question

    Hello,
I would like to import video clips from a camera as if it were another drive (like I do on a PC). In other words, copy from the camera to a drive location of my choice. Is there a way to do this? It seems I can only import through Final Cut to an event (or one of the othe resident applications like imovie etc).
    Thanks,
    GL

yes, I think so. what kind of connector does the camera have? Firewire or something else? . You'd probably need some kind of video capture application. I haven't tried this one, so I can't speak for its effectiveness:  FireRecord http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/36425/firerecord. I've only really done DV thru firewire with imovie, and I could save it somewhere on my hard drive.  Oh, I think I get it-- that you'd plug in the camera, you could see the video clip and drag n' drop to your hard drive somewhere. Maybe I'm wrong, but as far as  i know it's realtime....

  • Big question plz read slowly i need to write a procedure  but getting stuck

    please read this slowly........
I have two tables content_attributes and RULES
content_attributes with 3 columns and 9 rows as follows
    contentname contentattributes value
    logo category diagram
    logo class image
    apple category fruit-----------------------
    apple class red-------------------------
    apple entitlement diamond-----------------------
    computer class electronics
    computer category systems
    computer subclass chip
    computer entitlement machine
RULES has these 3 rows and 6 columns
rule_id rulename category class entitlement subclass
1 r1 diagram image NULL NULL
2 r2 fruit red diamond NULL
3 r3 systems electronics machine chip
I was asked to write a stored procedure...... on top of RULES table .it receives only one input parameter. They said my input parameter will be contentname (i.e it can be apple or logo or computer ) --
NOTE : you can see contentnames in the first table above
let us suppose if i get apple as the input to my procedure
1)Ii should find what all attributes are there for the apple from the content_attributes table
    2) i come to know that category , class and entitlement are the attributes and its corresponding attributes it doesnt have subclass as attribute
    3) hence my query should be
    select * from rules
    where category=fruit
    and class =red
    and entitlement=diamond
and subclass= NULL(since subclass is not present as attribute for apple it should be NULL but some other contentname may have this attribute value and other attributes null ) such as
now lets run the procedure and give another input 'logo'
if i receive input as logo then my query will be
    select * from rules
    where category= diagram
    and class=image
    and entitlement=NULL
    and subclass = NULL
(entitlement and subclass are null because for the contentname logo these are not present as attributes in the content_attributes table)
basically to explain in one line what i am doing is
see the input.......... find the attributes in content_attributes table......... then use those attributes to query rules table...... the attributes that you dont find put them as NULL.

You could be lazy and decoded your where clauses...
-- All tables where there are 6 rows
    select *
    from user_tables
    where decode(num_rows, 6, 1, 0) = 1;
-- All tables where rownum is null
    select *
    from user_tables
where decode(num_rows, null, 1, 0) = 1;OR you could could do it the long way and make your where clause more specific...
WHERE (PARAM = COL_VAL OR (PARAM IS NULL and COL_VAL IS NULL))

  • Aperture Video Import Problem - from Lumix GH4: Imported clips have their dates changed to the import date.  The files show up on the hard drive but many are not showing up in Aperture.

Aperture Video Import Problem - from Lumix GH4: Imported clips have their dates changed to the import date.  The files show up on the hard drive with import date not created date, but many of these same files are not showing up in Aperture. Sometimes the clips actually show up with the current import but take on the video information from a previously imported file.

It was suggested I move this question to IPhoto or IMovie which I did.
Well moving to a different discussion group did not provide an answer to this question either. But what I finally did was import one batch of photos and videos into IPhoto for a given day at a time. Working with these I could change the date and times in order to get them in the original sequench taken. Then I would create an album with that batch. These would all be on the same day (IMove was closed for this phase). Then I would open IMovie, generate the thumbnails for that album, and select the album I had created. This was necessary because the importing process in IPhoto was using incorrect dates for my video so it was a real struggle finding them in IMove until I developed this approach.
I believe that this whole process was so screwy because I was importing from an external hard drive not a camera. I had these photos on a PC and did not have the original cameras to use to import directly which I am fairly sure would have made this easier!

  • New Photo/Video Import Lost Due to Power Cut - Any Ideas?

I am using OS X 10.9.1, and iPhoto '08, V7.1.5.  My iMac was in the closing stages of a photo/video import from my iPhone 5 when a power cut occured.  I had thought the photos would already be in the new album that I'd just created because I had just been asked the question Keep or Delete Original Photos (I  responded DELETE).  When I restarted after the power cut, the new iPhoto album contained nothing at all, and 80% of the originals had been deleted off my iPhone.  I have tried looking in the main iPhoto library and Last Import folder with no joy.  Is there anythig else that I can try please?

Quick update to say that I found them!  I convinced myself that when the power cut occured, there's no way that a few GB of media could be instantly deleted, and thus they must be somewhere on the HD.......similar to data getting stored in a TEMP folder on a PC.  I managed to access the main LIBRARY folder via Finder >> GO >> OPTION KEY and then did a search for one of the photo numbers that I knew was missing. Amazingly found it together with all the other 588 missing photos & movies buried in a folder called 26Dec2013_2 (strange considering this happened on 01Jan2014 and all the photos/media were from the period 27Dec to 01Jan).  Note that my earlier search of the entire iPhoto Library package had also proved fruitless. Not sure where that folder was actually residing, but I copied the entire contents to my Desktop and then imported them into iPhoto.  In short, I am so happy!  Lesson learned about the dangers of power cuts, especially living in a city short on energy.  I will not do that again.  Hope this helps someone else sometime in the future. Thanks.

  • MEGA180 Important Questions

I have my MEGA180 on order but I already have some important questions:
    1) This unit provides dual vga outputs. If I install my own AGP 8x card, will the VGA2 output still work? I read in the manual that installing an AGP card will disable VGA1 (default) but it doesn't say anything about the 2nd VGA output connector. I require 2 outputs since I will be connecting to an LCD and my HDTV monitor (using a VGA to Component Video Transcoder)
    2) Will there be performance hits by using the two vga outputs at the same time?
    3) The on-board video card doesn't have any video memory. It will use your existing DDR memory. I will have 512Meg Dual Channel Memory. What kind of performance I can expect from the built-in video card (NVidia NForce Crush18) compared to other AGP cards on the market?
    Thanks for your help!
    Sly

Though I can not provide you with answers specific to the Mega 180, I can give you some more info.
    1) No. As soon as you install an AGP card, the onboard video will be fully disabled from within the BIOS. This is an nForce2 chipset setting. So make sure to get an AGP card with 2xVGA (as most cards have nowadays).
    2) No or not much. Using an nForce2 MoBo myself I haven't encountered performance loss using both VGA outputs.
    3) There's no way to compare the onboard video to an AGP card. AGP cards will have a far out better perfomance then the onboard video. But compared to other onboard video solutions around, like Xtreme Graphics, the nForce solution is far better and has far better performance.
It all depends on what you will be doing with the MegaPC. If you're a gamer, get an AGP card. If you want to use it as an HTPC, keep with the onboard nForce2 solution. There's no need for extra here since the nForce2 chipset is great. Onboard sound from this chipset is also great. Try it out before spending $ on an AGP card you don't need.
    Hope this helped a bit.

  • Does Adobe Prelude support USB3 video import?

Does Adobe Prelude support USB3 video import?

    Hello Michael,
Thank you for the response. I have used Adobe OnLocation before with a firewire camera and a laptop. My Panasonic HMC150 has HDMI output instead of Firewire. What I was hoping to do was to connect my camera via HDMI to the BlackMagic Intensity Shuttle and then to my laptop running Prelude via USB 3.0. Do you know if any Adobe Product supports USB 3.0 camera input streaming?

    Hi Mark,
Prelude can ingest assets from mountable drives/volumes seen by the OS. If the device you connect via USB3 is mounted by the OS I would expect no issues with Prelude ingesting from it.
However, if you are referring to the possibility of Prelude capturing a live stream from and camera via USB3 then that is not something Prelude supports.
Happy to answer other questions you may have on this.

  • New Macbook video import problem.

    Hi all,
I have just gone and bought myself a new Macbook Pro and I am very pleased with it. From a video standpoint I plan to use it to import and edit HD video from my Canon HV20. The new Macbook only has a Firewire 800 port and so the cable that I would normally use to connect computer and camcorder will not work as it is 'mini' Firewire to Firewire 400. I am assuming that there is/will be a 'mini' to FW800 cable available, but in the interim I am using a Firewire hub that is connected to the Macbook by a 400-800 cable. And herein lies my problem ! Although iMovie8 detects my HV20, it will not display or play or import any footage from the tape ! It just remains on the blue import screen and although the camcorder is merrily 'playing', no footage is actually making it across to the computer. I think the issue is the Firewire hub part of the connection but I thought it best to garner an opinion from users of this forum. Help !!
    Many thanks in advance, kroguk
    PS
I will also post this on the Macbook forum, so apologies if you see this post twice

Well, I can't find my Belkin FW800-to-4-pin (9-pin-to-4-pin) cable right now ..I'm doing some "tidying up" ..which is always hopeless for finding things afterwards!.. but I DID buy the other day - in the German Mac specialists, erm, can't remember the name - a Sonnet Fast-something (..which I've just put down, and now can't find..) teeny 9-pin-to-6-pin adapter (..so small that I can't find it!..) and I've just tested that with a Sony HC1 HDV camcorder.
    Using the Sonnet adaptor..
..which is mentioned on their website at top-left here: http://www.sonnettech.com/product/adapters/index.html ..on a normal 6-pin-to-4-pin FireWire cable.. I just connected my camcorder and successfully imported HDV from the Sony.
I tested it twice with iMovie HD 6, in the most adverse conditions: 1; connecting to the 9-pin FW800 socket on a G4 17" laptop (..which is generally too slow to import HDV in real-time..) and 2; looped ("daisy-chained") through the 9-pin FW800 sockets (..one socket from the drive to my Mac, the other socket from the drive to the camcorder..) of an external iOmega FireWire drive connected to my Quad G5 Mac, also with iMovie HD 6. Both imports worked perfectly.
I'm also trying it as I write this - I just found the adapter again! - to import into iMovie '08 on the G5, daisy-chained through the external disc (..the G4 is too old or underpowered to run iMovie '08..) and that works as well ..though I did have to "kick" the program into starting a new Event; at first the camera transport ran, but no video imported, so I just Stopped and re-imported.
I bought this adaptor "on spec", as no previous device or adapter had worked properly for me (..converting between 4-pin on a camcorder and 9-pin on a Mac..) and this is the first to have worked, for me. But I have great faith in Sonnet, as they make the extra S-ATA driver card and other bits and bobs which I put in my floorstander G5, and that all "just works".
Ah; the shop where I bought it is ..hold on a moment.. the "m store" in Munich. (Karsten may know them: when Gravis moved from Lindwurmstrasse to Im Tal, the m store opened up right next door to where Gravis had been before) and they're at Lindwurmstrasse 5a, their phone number - they speak English, too - is 0049 89 24 22 35 24 and their website is ..aaaarggh; they don't seem to have one.
Anyway; the Sonnet SimplyFast FireWire 400-to-800 Adapter works perfectly - for me - on the end of a normal 4-pin-to-6-pin FireWire 400 cable, and importing works flawlessly every way I've tried it ..even daisy-chained through an external drive.
    I can heartily recommend it.
But - as always - "your mileage may vary" ..meaning that it might not work so smoothly for you.

Do I need to point iPhoto to this new location?
    Thanks!

Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. (You unchecked the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.
    Assuming a Managed Library:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

  • Video import from PAL camcorder

I have just bought a Canopus ADVC110 which converts analog video to digital and have it hooked into my Powerbook Pro via a firewire lead.
I have my analog PAL camcorder tied into the canopus and am attempting to import some PAL video but not getting very far.
I fire up iMovie and it does indeed detect the camera but when I create a new project it appears as DV-NTSC and not DV-PAL. I have changed the 'New Project frame rate' preference from 29.97 to 25 but still no good. When I click on Import I get the video/audio but the video is VERY jumpy and in black and white and the audio is totally garbled. As the video is PAL and the project says DV-NTSC this might be the issue? I would have thought that the Canopus would remove any PAL/NTSC issues as it is being converted to digital anyway? I don't know how to change the new project from DV-NTSC to DV-PAL, again I thought switching frame rate to 25 would have done this?
So, can anyone help me get a smooth video import onto the Apple? I dont care what resulting file format is as long as I can import and play it. I don't mind buying a different video application if necessary and do have Toast Titanium if that helps.
    Many thanks,

It sounds like you may not have set the dip switches of the Canopus correctly to PAL.
See page 16 of instruction manual for the canopus ADVC110!
    (I use the same one)

Short Slo Mo video imported to Aperture or iPhoto via cable (Air Drop not supported on my iMac): only the SloMo section imports. Not the rest. Any fixes?

Okay, as I'm working through this I see that I have to add the "Admin" account to each file with "read only" permission.  Simply changing the "everyone" account access does nothing.
So how do I change the permissions settings in iPhoto or Aperture to give each exported file the desired permissions?  I cannot locate a setting in the iPhoto or Aperture applications.
Also, I added a password to the user account.  It did not change how files are output.

  • No video imported

All of a sudden when I try to import video from my camera to iMovie it won't work.  The first thing that happens in the automatic mode is that it shuts off and says stopped.  Then I switch to manual and the whole video imports but the screen is blue the whole time.  When it is finished it says there is no video.  If I open up the screen on the camcorder when I am importing the video, I can see video. iMovie has worked for me in the past and I don't know what happened.  I am using iMovie 9.0.8

    > how can I get that info?
Right-click on the file in the Premiere Pro porject window and choose "Properties".
You can also right-click on a file in Windows Explorer, choose "Properties", go to the "Summary" tab and click "Advanced>>". This should show some basic information about the file.
    > Or is there anyway for me to change the file type? maybe to an mpg?
Not without knowing what is first. In any case, Premiere does not handle MPEG files all that well so it's likely not the best choice.
