Video imported all on one clip..

Video did not import into separate clips. Its all on one clip. How can I get imovie to make separate clips for editing? Original video is gone. Its on imovie6.

Hi Dixie
Where Do Your material originate from ?
• miniDV tape Camera (recorde with this live)
• from VHS/VCR via miniDV Camera or A/D box
If the latter - there are no Time & Date code that gives info to iMovie where to cut.
There is no function in iMovie that can produce couts from variations in picture or audio. (either in FinalCut Express/pro as I'm aware of)
It has been reported that it can be done on PC-Window platform and by programs like
Pinnacle, Adobe Premiere etc. NEVER Confirmed though.
If timecode not present - Manual cutting up only way. (As I know of)

  • Video imported as only one clip on iMovie 08

I imported video from a Canon Elura 100 that consisted of many clips(100+) that showed up as only one long clip. I found info that suggested that it could be that the camera's date and time wasn't set. I tried another DV tape (camera's date & time is set) with the same result. Any suggestions on what went wrong and is there an easy way to separate into clips?

Strange how you complain about getting a single file while others are complaining that their content is broken into dozens if not hundreds of segments.

Have no idea why you have been so "blessed" or "cursed" (depending on you point of view) but see no real difference in editing other than an individual's personal point of view when it comes to managing the content as source material. iMovie will handle the content equally well whether the project resource pointers point to various segments of a single long file or to separate segments in separate files. If you have to physically separate your files, you can always trim and segment the raw files any way you want to dispose of the dross you will never need or use. I would not, however, recommend using a physical/file destructive work flow within iMovie '08 as it is a bad habit to get into if you ever work with anamorphic source material (i.e., you can lose your flag and iMovie with thereafter treat your files as 4:3 content).

  • Why does my imported video appear on only one clip?

I had only made a  few in the past but I remember well that the footages appeared as several clips on the pane window. On this occasion I have but only one clip, despite the fact i wasnt running the camera constantly and took several bits of film footage.Rather confused by it

Actually i just finished importing in and it has appeared as two clips which still isnt much good as it limits my editing options somewhat. There area few bits i would like to remove , then add trans and effects as well

  • Selecting/importing more than one clip from camcorder using check boxes

    Hi.
I've just bought a new camcorder (SD Card) based. I used to use Mini DV tapes.
Now when I import into iMovie9 I am able to select which clips I import. I always choose manual import because I like to save different clips into different topics.
I am able to uncheck all the clips and individually select each one I want to import but I'm baffled about how to select more than one clip at a time and then check the import box. e.g. select clips 3 to 15 and then having to check the box once instead of checking ever box for each clip. There must be something like hold shift down while selecting but I've not managed to work it out yet!
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks
    Paul

    Hi Paul,
I import clips as you do - by manually ticking the box in each clip. Like you, I haven't figured out a way to select a group of clips in one go - that would be very handy! Sorry I can't help - I'll be interested to see what answers you get.

  • Lots of videos, or all in one, & Need for a Play button?

I am shooting about 11 separate videos over the next 12 months, each on a single local subject such as a village fair, hay-making, the Fire Service etc. Each will be from 3 to 15 minutes long. These subjects will be grouped into: events, festivals, work, etc. The first-play menu will have an "Intro" and a "Contents" button. The Contents button is connected to a Contents Menu (second level) which will have a button for each of the above groups. Each of those group buttons will be connected to its own third-level menu which will have buttons connected to play the beginning of each of the subject videos in the relevant group.
The videos are separate simply for ease of shooting, capturing and editing as I complete all three activities soon after the event etc. has finished.
    1. What would be best practice: keep the videos separate, one per track, its beginning connected to its button on the third-level menu, or join all the videos together and connect the third-level buttons to chapter marks in the single video where each of the original separate videos startd? (Stories seem to be used to allow the author to select which parts of a given video will be played when and to not allow playing other parts, but all my edited video material will be played.)
    Also:
I think that it is usual practice to include a Play button in the first-play menu. This seems to be to allow the user to play a whole cinema film from beginning to end. However, in my project, no user is likely to want to do that. My project is more like a training manual where the user would choose which part of a car he wanted to fix and go directly to it. So:
    2. Is there any reason why I should include a Play button on the first-play menu?
    Thanks.

For best playback performance, if the videos under each subset are on the same track they can navigate to the 3rd level menu quicker if you use VTS view to put the 3rd level menu for the section (i.e., events) with all the video for the tracks and you can use stories
Also take a look here for some more info on VTS issue

    Play All
sounds like it is a no, the answer lies in your question - will a user want to play all (which seems to be a no) Becomes a creative issue to a degree, do you think not having a play all detracts from your project (regardless of whether it "should" be there and/or having it makes no sense in your judgement.

  • Cannot import all of one album

I only have this issue with one album out of 11gb of music. When I drag the playlist into the nano only the first track transfers across. If I try and drag one of the other tracks individually, I don't get the 'plus' sign appear. They are all standard mp3's at variable bit rates. Any idea why this should be?

Try converting the album to AAC. That is one option.

  • How do I send 300 photos and videos in all from one iPad to another?

I have a newer iPad that I wanna send 300 pictures and videos to my iPad 2. I just need to know how to by tonight please, thanks!

If you sign in with the same Apple ID on each device then you should have all your photos in "My Photo Stream".
    Hope this helps.

  • How to get multiple photos as one clip in imovie?

i have 13 school photos that i want to include in an imovie slideshow project. i wanted them to scroll from left to right, but can't seem to get them all in one clip. is there a way to do this? i found a way to do it by adding all 13 pictures into one photo using photobucket, but when i import that massive photo into imovie, it is such poor quality that it isn't worth it. please help. i'm going crazy over here.

In that case, I have never done this before, but here is how I would approach it.
In Photoshop, or similar app, I would create a photo that is 1080pixels high or bigger and wide enough to hold all pictures.
I would place all photos in here and export as a single photo.
In iMovie, I would set the image to Ken Burns, with the starting rectangle on the first photo, and the ending rectangle on the last photo.

  • Capture MiniDV tape as one clip

I am doing my first MiniDV tape capture. I rewound the tape, clicked play and Capture Now. When the tape was done, it was divided up into clips. I don't want this. How do I import it as one clip? (it broke it up into 5 clips of varying length) this is a friends home video.

If you are working with DV/NTSC or DV/PAL material, Final Cut Pro does not automatically segment the capture (unless there are time code breaks).
If you have HDV footage, I believe there is a check box somewhere in the capture settings to turn off the automatic clip generation.

  • How to import all Excel in Folder to database by SSIS?

I have SQL Server 2012 and I would like to import Excel files data to Database.
I have several files that end-users copy to folder.
I never know files names or number of files in folder, but I know that structucture of data is same in every single file.
How to create logic with SSIS that imports all files one by one?

  • Importing tape into Imovie 11. How do I import all the clips as one long clip?

How do I import all the clips as one long clip? I have 45 min of footage and I want it as one long take I can edit in Final Cut ProX. When I import, all the clips are split up when the scene cuts. I just want the 45 min in one long video.

iMovie will import the tape as if it is direct from the camera. It will sense the scene breaks and put all the clips in chronological order.
If you want to import it as one long clip, I suggest you load the tape into the app that you edited the tape with. Then export it out as a QuickTime movie in the DV codec. You can import this MOV file into FCPX or iMovie.

  • Importing video as one clip

I edit items on a PC in Avid, an excellent professional editing system, mastering to DV tape. I've worked on Avid since 1998 and unfortunately worked in a PC environment for too long. I wanted to use iMovie to compress those movies to Quicktime to make use of Apple's excellent dvd authoring program by importing my master video which is on DV tape. My PC does a lousy job of compressing to Quicktime (it takes forever) and Apple's dvd authoring is excellent. Unfortunately the way iMovie works now makes it almost impossible to do this. Earlier versions of iMovie, specifically 6, allowed import of video material as one clip no matter how many shots and/or effects were in the footage. Now version 8, which I have, divides and rearranges those clips sporadically. Clips with dissolves or other effects are taken completely out of sequence and deposited at the end of the movie sequence. The other video is broken into unjoined clips for no apparent reason. I have unchecked the box arranging clips by date. It is nearly impossible to rearrange the clips for a smooth flow. This is all very unfortunate. Apple has effectively reduced the flexibility of version 8 from version 6. I can't understand why they would do this. It seems to be a step backward for iMovie and Apple and very disappointing. I'd love to see an update to fix this. Has anyone found a way to import video as one clip with no breaks in version 8?

I didn't realize it was still available. I've done that and it should work. Thanks.

  • My Photos app on my iPad 2 has deleted all but one of my imported photos and additionally, deleted over 2000 of my Camera Roll photos and videos.  I am very upset and I may never get any of those memories back.  Please help me.

My Photos application was left open last night to rebuild my library after I tried to delete 13 photos.  I guess 13 really is an unlucky number, because when I tried to look at my photos this morning, all except one of my imported photos had disappeared and it had deleted over 2000 of the photos and videos on my Camera Roll.  I lost memories and I need them back.  Please help me restore these photos and videos.  Please don't say that I should sync to my PC and right click and restore backup because the Apple backup function didn't work any of the occasions that I attempted to use it.  So, please just help me get my memories back.  I need help as soon as possible.  This always happens to me.

    try this utility : http://www.iphonebackupextractor.com/
extracts the photos with this tool on your PC, then add these photo with itunes (not in camera roll but in a dedicated folder) : so you will have a permanent backup for your pics.

  • Aperture Video Import Problem - from Lumix GH4: Imported clips have their dates changed to the import date.  The files show up on the hard drive but many are not showing up in Aperture.

Aperture Video Import Problem - from Lumix GH4: Imported clips have their dates changed to the import date.  The files show up on the hard drive with import date not created date, but many of these same files are not showing up in Aperture. Sometimes the clips actually show up with the current import but take on the video information from a previously imported file.

It was suggested I move this question to IPhoto or IMovie which I did.
Well moving to a different discussion group did not provide an answer to this question either. But what I finally did was import one batch of photos and videos into IPhoto for a given day at a time. Working with these I could change the date and times in order to get them in the original sequench taken. Then I would create an album with that batch. These would all be on the same day (IMove was closed for this phase). Then I would open IMovie, generate the thumbnails for that album, and select the album I had created. This was necessary because the importing process in IPhoto was using incorrect dates for my video so it was a real struggle finding them in IMove until I developed this approach.
I believe that this whole process was so screwy because I was importing from an external hard drive not a camera. I had these photos on a PC and did not have the original cameras to use to import directly which I am fairly sure would have made this easier!

  • Import whole movie as one clip in imovie

Hi, not sure if I am posting this in the right place now - ah just looked down below my post and it appears it will put it in the imovie forum, good
I have never used iMovie.  I've used several video editing products in past years, but haven't done much recently and now I have a deadline of Christmas eve to get this done.
A good few years ago we transferred all of my wife's family home super 8 film  to DV format and then spent weeks editing them down to a very nice 20 minute video with music.  Made a bunch of DVDs but over the years, they seem to have all stopped working or been lost.  The master is still on DV tape and I now have my sony camera linked up to my MBP and it seems to work very well once I got the firewire to thunderbolt connector.  It controls the camera perfectly, better than a lot of products that I used to use.
So my problem is ithat when I imported the video, it cut everything up into clips.... and when I put all the clips into a movie they do not play seamlessly... as I don't want to do any editing on this, I just want it all as one long clip so I can export it into suitable formats for my sister-in-law to download on Christmas day...
So I have gone back to the import process and I couldn't seem to find any settings or anything for adjusting how the video is imported from my camera.
I certainly hope this can be done... not so much video editing I want to do, but more of a conversion process I guess, any help would be urgently and greatly appreciated!

hmm, after 24 hours of searching etc I have come to the conclusion that iMovie is pretty rubbish at functionality and a way for Apple to push it's iDrive and get me to pay money for it as well... :-(
I tried putting all my clips into a movie, but the audio skips between the clips and I can't reduce the transition to 0 -  so actually no way of recreating my whole movie again and no way of capturing the whole movie in one clip - granted I've only been using this for a day, but after years of video editing I cant say the interface settting or anything else is intuitive about it... seemed promising at first, but in the end I got my old version of Adobe Premier out and it did what I needed first time, no fuss.  Afraid iMovies is heading for the trash.
