Video In adapter for digital camera

I need an adapter that will allow me to establish a video connection from a Nikon D90 digital camera to my iMac in order to show on the computer screen, in my classroom, a live image of whatever appears on the monitor on the back of the camera (menus, images, camera settings etc). Anybody knows what I need and where I could find it?

Hello,
This should do what you're after. Whether the menu/settings are displayed are down to the camera's output however.

  • I just discovered my videos from my Canon digital camera are not compatible with imovie or idvd so I need new software. Any ideas?

Hi. I just discovered my videos from my Canon digital camera are not compatible with imovie or idvd (I'm very disappointed about that.) The photos are stored in my iphoto and I can burn a dvd using idvd but there is no audio So.... I need new software. I have a Mac OS X 10.5.8 and my digital still camera is the Canon Cybershot These are home movies of my kids and the viedeos are precious. Thanks in advance!

    Canon Cybershot
I can't trace a camera of that name. All that comes up is either the Sony Cybershot or the Canon Powershot!
Please confirm excactly what camera you have, and what version of iMovie.

  • Movie/Video formats on Still digital cameras

I've purchased a no-name digital picture frame for friends for the holidays. While I've got sample
pictures they've taken with their digital camera to play fine on the frame, I'm primarily interested in editing some of their home-videos with Final Cut Pro and getting them to play on the digital frame.
They recorded their movies on a mini-dv camera and I've digitized the files into FCP fine.
The instructions with the frame say it will play video formats MPEG 1,2 and 4, but doesn't give any specifics beyond that on size, frame rate or other conditions of those three formats which will make movie videos compatible for the frame. As it's a no-name frame, there is no customer service information to whom I can address the question.
I fully realize that I may need some format very specific to this frame, and it may be a trial and error game for me, but I'm wondering if any readers of this forum are also familiar with the Movie Mpeg 1,2,4 files recorded by most still digital cameras, and can provide any additional info on how I might need to create the MPEG video so it will be compatible with the frame. I'm sure I can use FCP export, Compressor or Quicktime export once I know the right specifics.
I surmise that all these digital frames that promote the fact that they play video are talking about the movies (video) that many of these still digital cameras can create and playback internally. That's the video format I'm trying to replicate and find out more about. Any additional information would be helpful for me.
    Thanks.

If you can make a movie in the MPEG-4 format it should be useable regardless of the frame rate or size. The optimal size usually is 640 x 480. I've found in my digital frame I need to put the items in a folder on the memory card instead of the root directory of the card. The frame can see the folder(s) and play from there. I guess it's because the card is formated FAT 16 and can't take many items in the root directory. The only issue is size of the movie file. The smaller you can make it the better it will probably play.
My Canon camera creates 640 x 480 H.264 files at 29.7 fps which is the .mp4 format.
Just be sure to have vanilla file names as the cards are PC based and choke on non standard characeter, i.e. 0-9 and a-z. No spaces in the file name, underscores or dashes only.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Photoshop CS5 disables autoplay for digital camera?

I just received and installed Photoshop CS5 Upgrade a couple days ago.  Software seems to be working fine.  However, I've noticed that when I plug in my DSLR (Canon EOS 5D Mark II), it will not auto-launch any application assigned to it.  Typically, it should launch the EOS Utility so I can select and download my RAW files.  The camera is detected by Windows, so it's not a driver problem.  And, I can still launch the EOS Utility and download images manually.
When I uninstall CS5, it auto-launches just fine, so something funky is going on with CS5.  I've confirmed the same behavior with my wife's camera (EOS 30D) and my point-and-shoot camera (Canon SD1100 IS).  None of them will auto-launch their respective applications.  I've also tried resetting the autoplay defaults as well as reassigning the applications associated with each camera.  Nothing seems to affect this behavior.
I was previously using Photoshop CS2 with no problems.  I'm running Windows 7 Professional x64 and the following hardware:
    Asus P6T Deluxe v2 motherboard
    Intel Core i7 950
    12GB DDR3
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX285
Is there a setting in Photoshop or Bridge that is causing this?  Thanks in advance.

    Hi Curt,
Thanks for the reply.  Card reader autoplay works fine, as does most (if not all) other autoplay devices.  It seems to be digital cameras that aren't behaving correctly.  I prefer to use the EOS Utility over a standard card reader since it gives me the ability to catalog my photos by shooting date (or other criteria) automatically.  I also use it for Live View shooting, so having it load automatically when the camera is connected is a convenient feature.
However, I'm now suspecting it's not Photoshop CS5 that's the culprit.  I installed CS5 on my laptop and autoplay works fine with all of my cameras.  So, something else is afoot with my desktop PC.

  • Snow Leopard does not auto adjust time for digital camera

For some reason when I connected my digital camera this morning to auto adjust its time to reflect DST I ended up having to do it manually. Is this not a feature of SL? I did this a hundred times in Tiger without hassles. Maybe I am missing something. I am not using iPhoto for my imports.

I'm curious what software you are referring to. I doubt this is the fault of SL but rather a change in the Canon software. I know Canon's "Camera Window" has changed over the last while if that is what you are referring to but I don't remember seeing a time setting in it ever. Can you look back at the name and version of the software you are referring to?

  • No Item Info (resolution) for Digital Camera photos?

    Hi,
Just imported some photos off my Canon digital camera into my iMac using Image Capture. Looking at at all the Icons for the photos in Finder, I've noticed none of them have their resolution written below them, even though I've got "Show Item Info" ticked.
If someone can explain to me why this, I'd like to know. Any pictures I download from the Internet automatically have their resolution written below them in Finder. But for photos that've come from my own camera, they don't.

The only time I see this is when the images are in a folder that is not indexed by Spotlight. Thus, I have a folder on a drive that has Spotlight disabled for that drive, and the same folder on my startup drive. The pixel dimensions appear when I open the folder my startup drive, they do NOT appear when I open the folder on the other drive. If the folder the pix are in is excluded from Spotlight search you won't see the dimensions displayed in the Finder window. I would guess that the folder the downloaded items are in is indexed, the one from the camera is not.

  • Converter for digital camera

I have a sony digital camera with video capabilites. However, I am unable to burn a DVD out of my videos after downloading them onto my computer. I was told I need a MPIGI muxed converter. Does anyone know how I might get this or if it will even work?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
You have posted to the Discussion feedback forum.
Depending on the Digital camera in question, if it has an IEEE 1394 port, or Firewire port, you may want to post this question to the iMovie forum:
    http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=141
which describes your version more concisely,
or you may want to post to iDVD forum with your version of iDVD if trying to burn from iDVD:
    http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=128
Or the 10.4 forum about the Finder, if trying to burn from the Finder with a burn folder:
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=751
Be sure to mention the model of your Sony camera in the question, so people can more clearly tell you what options you have. Also please state your Mac model and vintage Mac model so people can help you easier.

  • Imagery Apps for digital camera to iPod Touch / iPhone

Hoping I can pose this question here - does anyone know if there is or will be an APP for linking digital cameras via cable (wireless would be perfect!) to an iPod Touch or iPhone mainly for using the screen as a larger preview screen (maybe with a few handy 'extras').
The number of times you get two or more crowded around a small 2 inch on the back of a Nikon on it's tripod!

Now I'm travelling to China at the end of the year I am hoping even more that some Apps guru can come up with even a basic processing App to load images that can attach to say, my daily news to my Friends on Facebook!
I know my Sony uses USB2.0 so all that would be needed is an intermediary link to plug into the Touch? I noticed there is Apple iPod Camera Connector (M9861) available but reviews don't cover the Touch and there's conflicting reports.
Already you can now get a useful photo retouching App (Picoli) which makes life even easier.
    Fingers crossed I guess!

  • IPhoto 6 - recurring pop-up window for digital camera

Starting a few months ago, I began getting this pop-up window every time I launch iPhoto:
No matter what I click or answer, this window pops up again every time I launch iPhoto.
Why is this happening and how do I get it to stop asking me?  I work on an old PowerPC (OS 10.4.11, iPhoto 6.0.6 (322)).  The pop-up window comes up irrespective of whether or not a digital camera or card reader is attached.

Rj in WI is correct. I just started using iTunes about a month ago after my wife got an IPod. It took me about an hour of frustration and reading the instruction before I saw in the bottom right of the window "my computer". You click on that and then you can change it to the Airport network. Unfortunately It appears you can only send to only one place. I have two Aiport Expresses and I can only send it to one of the Express devices, or the computer, but not to two or all three places at one time.

  • Why is the IEEE 1394 Standard for digital cameras difficult to synchronize/trigger with other devices?

In the knowlege base, it generally says under "analog and digital cameras: advantages and disadvantags" that the IEEE 1394 is difficult to synchronize and trigger. Why is that exactly so and how can you solve that problem in DIAdem 8.0 when you would like to trigger your measurement inputs (accelerometers etc) together with a camera.

I would guess it is difficult to synchronize because it provides a software trigger. Latencies in the communication would make it difficult to perfectly synchronize two separate events.
Many firewire cameras also have a hardware trigger. If you were to use this with your other hardware, you would probably be able to get much better synchronization.

  • Video recording software for Logitech camera

    Hello,
I want to know if I can attach my Logitech camera to my PowerBook G4 to RECORD surveillance video.
Is my old laptop compatible with Logitech? (I presently have this camera connected to my MINI drive for skype).
If it is compatible, would you recomend a video recording software, I can use for my G4?
Please let me know if surveillance video recording is possible using my powerbook!
    Thanks!

The only software that I know of which will work with 10.3 is Debut Video Capture for Mac or EchoFX
I believe they are paid versions, but do come with a trial version. There is nothing I've seen on the Open Source market for video capture.
There is a link here on how to use  Quick time broadcaster, that you could adapt it to record security footage I'm sure.

  • Importing videos shot with a digital camera (consumer still camera)

    Hi all,
I am having trouble with having to render any part that's changed even by a frame. I've got a Fuji F30 digital still camera that I used to take some 320x240 videos that I wanna just splice together. I've tried all kinds of sequence profile changes to the Audio/Video Settings (Photo JPEG compression, Movie A, None, H.264, and all kinds of audio settings) and testing each one by converting the file in FCP's Media Browser to match. Always the red "unrendered" bar.
Am I missing something? Or if it came from a digital still camera, am I just "stuck"?

Ok, I answered my own question thru trial and error. The answer, for anyone stuck like I was, is that once you have a sequence open, the A/V settings of that sequence are not changed by "Audio/Video Setup." You have to right-click on the Sequence in the browser and change the "Settings...", or click on the Sequence and choose "Sequence > Settings..." from the menu.
Silly newb. Do I get points for answering my own question?
