Video in button

Im sure this is a basic question but I'm still getting familiar with DVDSP (I have spent more than a few hours in the manual and trying things). So, I can get a small video clip in a button, but I cant get it to loop. Is it possible? How? If not, same question about an asset on the background?

You can't do this with Photoshop layers at all. You either manually make a series of sub menus such that each menu is a copy of the main one, but with a different button animated, or you use an overlay mask.
If you do the sequence of menus then you should consider auto activating the buttons so that when you roll over them you go to the correct copy of the menu with the animation playing as you want.
If you use overlay masks you'll need to keep a fairly simple background to your menu so that you can use blocks of solid colour to mask off the animation. You may get some detail in that masking piece, but nowhere near photographic quality (remember, and overlay can have just 4 colours in it).
Given all you have said, I would recommend you construct your own series of sub menus. It isn't actually that hard - you need to make a single menu and copy it enough times for each button, then link the menu buttons to the correct sub menu to show the animation. Make these auto activating and then set the sub menu buttons to go to the track based assets as appropriate.
The menus may well seem sluggish in operation when you do this... the delay will depend on the player that is being used at the time as much as anything else.

Video in button Selected state?

I'm rusty in DVDSP - been a couple of years since my last DVD menu project, but I have one now and the client has provided the menu art and description of what they want - but there are 2 items I'm not sure if I can include the way they want, and before I re-prep their art for Studio Pro (because, of course, it was prepped as if for print), I want to determine the best course to take, and reset their expectations, if necessary.
1) They want video to play in a button, but only when it is selected - I can drop video in using shapes, but it's playing in all states. I can't use a layered menu, because the background also is motion (subtle looping, but motion just the same). Thought maybe I'd build the motion in the buttons and mask over with a still in normal state, reveal in selected, but can't seem to get there. So any ideas, or am I spinning my wheels trying to accomplish?
2) They've prepped the buttons as if rollovers in a Flash presentation - the normal state has an image with a white border around it and title underneath - but the selected state has those as black PLUS a small arrow pointing at the title. I can't do a straight shape with text, because the arrow element will be present in all states. I can't do a layered menu because of the motion background. So what I've come up with is embedding the normal states of the button (white, without the arrow) into the motion background, and then create a shape with the text (black, with the arrow) but with only the highlight layer and no shape layer so that only the black highlight layer shows up over it when selected. This works, but I have to position it PRECISELY over the background normal button, or else white edges show and it gets ugly. So, is there a better way to do this that I'm overlooking?

There is another way, but it's tricky.
You create a series of menus that are almost identical. In the first, all buttons show still images, and the button auto activates to a copy of the menu where the appropriate button shows a video. If you have four buttons, you'll need five menus all exactly the same except in the last four, single buttons have video, others are stills. Every button that is a still auto activates to go to the appropriate menu where that button has video. Every video based button links to the relevant track.
In practice, the user will see a still image, and when they select it (or roll over with a mouse if on a computer) the menu will jump to the associated sub menu where that button now has video and the others show stills.
The problem here is that on some (most) players there will be a pause between the menus, and it won't be a slick and quick change.
Using the masking technique is better in lots of ways, however as Drew said it will be hard to match the colours. Also, the mask shape will need to be your 'still' image (which might help obscure the colour differences) and this can only have four colours.
A further consideration is that the mask shape will be part of the button highlight (well.... it will BE the button highlight) and as such will exist in the subpicture stream. It is impossible to guarantee that this will stay in place or be in place when leaving or entering a menu. In effect, when you click a button the first thing to disappear is the sub picture stream, which means all of your videos will be visible for a fraction of a second, or perhaps slightly longer. Secondly, when entering a menu, the last thing to be created is the subpicture stream, which means that all of your button videos will be showing for a fraction of a second until they get covered.
The amount of delay in each case will depend on the player. For some it'll be tiny. For others it'll be seconds and will ruin the effect you are looking for.
I would probably prefer the delay as you change menus to the revelation of all the button videos, but you'll have to decide for yourself which is better!

No video call buttons

Just loaded Skype on my android phone and my iphone why are there no video. Buttons ?

A Video Call button may not be available when the following criteria is met:
The device is not compatible with video calling. This usually applies to older devices.
You do not have the latest version of Skype. Be sure you're up to date using the "My Apps" section of the Play Store. or the App Store on your iPhone.
When using a third-party client, video calling may not be available for Skype or may not be officially supported. Always use the official Skype client for your device when making video calls, which is fully supported.
If anything else, please reply. If you're not using the officially-supported Skype client, please install that first and then let me know if the problem still persists.

Need to find Video Effect Button cuz its not in Inspector

In my iMovie 11 i have audio effect instead of video effects in the inspector.
i don't know how to change it/ or find video effects button. Help? thanks

It seems that you are opening the Inspector from a clip in the Event Library. Video effects are not available for Event clips. You need to create a Project, then drag clips (or segments of clips) from the Event to the project timeline. For a new Project, select from the menu File > New Project.
Double-click on a clip in the Project to open the Inspector. In the Inspector's Clip tab you will see the following:

Video call button not highlighted

Greetings.
I only have 2 contacts on my skype list but when I double click on the names thier profile will display but the video call button won't highlight and I can't click on it and make a video call to anyone.

Are these contacts Online on Skype? The status icon next the contact's name must be solid green with a white checkmark inside.

In the new Acrobat DC i have added video and buttons to my pdf. Can not make them work on tablets. Any one know what to do?

I suggest you to wait before buying an Isight or any webcam on Mac. I haven't been able to make video communication with other MSN users. MSN for mac doesn't offer video functionality. I've tried third pary MSN clients : aMSN, Mecury, but without success.
I'm afraid there's no solution at the moment. I've posted several messages, but nobody gives me a solution to that problem, except telling me to use Yahoo or AOL, but nobody uses Yahoo or AOL on PC in Europe and nobody want to install another programm, just because you use another technologie.

Video play button disappears after press

I am trying to create an onscreen video play button that

Hi Nick,
I have attached the file that is causing me the problem. Basically I wrote a vi that can read a .TDMS file on the target RT PXI, and view it in a graphical format with the ability to view multiple channels.
I'm not sure if it will run on your PC as there are some file paths that need to be set, but I think it can be changed easily.
To replicate the problem:
Run the VI, go to the second tab and open some .TDMS file, hit the OPEN button. Resize the window, and try pressing any of the enabled buttons on either tab after the window resize. 90% of the time the button should just disappear after pressing it.
The "Channel" list table should also disappear when one try to select any of the items after a window resize etc.

Video control buttons not working

I have an embedded video in an Interactive SWF project I am working on and the video control buttons I have built do not work. Under the buttons panel, I selected "Video" and then used all the various control options available to create a control panel for my video. It looks great, but none of the buttons work. My video file shows up in the appropriate drop down menu and I am 100% sure I have done everything correct, but the buttons do not work. The video is a SWF file, is that the problem? Any help would be appreciated!

Can't find the "Video" move button on Apple TV to move Rentals from MacBook

Hi, I just bought an Apple TV. I had a couple of rented movies on my MacBook Pro and would like to watch the rentals on the Apple TV. I have already looked in support and it says it is possible to move the rentals to the Apple Tv by clicking on the device and click the move button. I have done this with my ipod before. When I click on the apple tv I get only "Summary" and "Photos" tabs. There is no "Video" tab as described on the Support website. Can anyone help me with this?
I have no problems watching or listening to my iTunes Library on Apple TV.

You have the tv set up to use your itunes library as a secondary library, change it to a primary library.

How to control a YouTube video with buttons created with Edge Animate?

I have some buttons that go to another position on the timeline where a different object is shown. if the video is playing, it will continue playing even if the user cannot see it. Hence, I want to pause or stop the video.
On the button clcik event I have tried:

IWeb video play button doesn't work

I've got several videos on my website, but for some reason the play buttons don't work. You can play the video by double clicking it, but you can't even activate the play button.

I too had problems with the slideshow play buttons not working (iWeb '09). Whether I published to a folder or the internet, the buttons just wouldn't work. After spending much too much time on it, I almost gave up. Until I read your post about one element overlapping another. Although my problem was slightly different then the one you were addressing, your post gave me the answer I needed.
Here's the problem and the fix:
I created the typical 'Photos' page. But I got too fancy and that was the problem! For design reasons, I put a frame around the outside of the 'Photos' element. Using the 'Shapes' tool, I created a frame with a thin ruled border and had a 'fill' of 'none.' The 'none' fill made it possible to see the photos and buttons through the frame I made. Kind of like a hole in the frame so I could see through it. It was the last thing I did, so it was on top of everything else. It was the top element on the page. AND THAT WAS THE PROBLEM: IT WAS THE TOP ELEMENT. IT BLOCKED THE BUTTONS UNDERNEATH FROM WORKING! Even though I saw the photos and buttons ('Play Slideshow' & 'Subscribe') through the 'hole' I had in the frame, the frame was still on top and blocked the buttons from functioning. iWeb didn't recognize the 'none' fill and saw the frame as completely opaque. As soon as I made the frame the back element on the page (Arrange>Send To Back), all the buttons worked!!! Everything looked exactly the same to the naked eye as it first did, but now iWeb saw it differently and everything, all the buttons, worked.
Since this situation doesn't seem to be documented anywhere in iWeb, I thought I'd pass the info along.
Although I still have some things that bother me about iWeb, the program is looking a lot better to me today then it did yesterday!

Invoke Video With Button

I'm using Acrobat 10. The paper background in my PDF has a beautiful JPEG I don't want to cover up with a video region over it. Therefore, what I'm trying to figure out is how to invoke a FLV video to appear over my JPEG background upon pushing a "PLAY VIDEO" button. Currently, the add Tools -> Multimedia -> Video option adds a video to a region I specify and then the video covers up my JPEG background. Therefore, how do a add a video to my PDF so that it plays upon clicking on a button and then disappears once it is done? In other words, I'm seeking to figure out a way to temporarily allow the Video to cover my JPEG background only when it plays. Once it's done it automatically disappears and my JPEG background is now longer covered up. Also how do avoid the video player control interface from conflicting with the Play Button I want to create? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Two options:
Set the annotation's advanced properties to play in a floating window, so the region you drag out on the page only defines the 'button' area.
Move the annotation to a layer (using custom commands in Preflight in Acrobat Pro), then use JavaScript on a regular button or link region to show/hide the layer.
