  • Recording video in Director

    Hi,
since Penworks.com has gone belly up, and hence it's xtras like dvcap.xtra too, is there any way to record video in Director?
I need to be able to record video, save it to disk, and afterwards have someone view the videos, edit them (just change in- and outpoint) and upload them to YouTube. The editing and resaving can be done with QTMovieXtra I think, but what about the recording part... Maybe a combo with Flash, or could I directly control QT Pro using the BudyAPI xtra?
Any input is more than welcome, I have to give a pricequote by Friday...
    Thanks,

  • WMV video in Director

Hi, and thanks in advance to anyone who can help me!
I have a video (which HAS to be WMV) in my director file, and
i need to create buttons for play, stop, fast forward, rewind, back
to begining and to alter the sound.
i tried using behavious on the sprites I made but as im using
a windows media video they wouldnt work.
I've managed to get the coding for the play and stop buttons
    working with..
    on mouseUp me
    sprite("topup").play()
    end
but im not sure for the rest of the buttons, and especially
    the sound.
I am a complete newbie when it comes to lingo and behaviour
scripting, so sorry if this is a stupidly easy question!
Any help would be greatly appreciated! I have the worst
client im doing this for and hes really bearing down my neck!! :(
    Many Thanks
    Nikky

I feel your pain. I have been there. In my case (this was in
    the early
90s when CD reading speeds were quite a bit slower than now),
    I had a
client that wanted fullscreen (1024x768 in the days when most
    people had
800x600) playback with no compression. The movie was 15
    minutes long.
It wouldn't fit on CD, and even after I got him past the no
    compression
thing and got it to fit on CD, he was still adamant about the
    fullscreen
full quality. I ended up writing a quick and dirty installer
    that would
copy the movie to the users temp folder while he was working
    through the
menu system. I also made it at 1/2 the size he wanted and
    doubled it
during playback. It worked out pretty well, but it was a huge
    hassle!
You may be able to get away with something I did not have
    access to back
    then.
The newer versions of Flash have a flv conversion tool that
    you can
convert your movie to flv format. You can get really good
    quality at a
very small file size this way. You need to make a player
    application in
Flash and save that as swf. Then bring the swf into Director.
    It is a
bit of work, but it will stream the video off the cd drive
    and play
inside the Director window instead of opening the external
    Media Player.

  • H264 Video in Director 11.5 with Windows 7

I have a director movie that loops a quicktime mov file (H264 encoding). The arrow keys move the movie around on the stage. Anytime the movie reaches the edge of the monitor the program crashes.
The director file is in this zip file:
    http://www.jsteinkamp.com/test-off-screen.zip
I have tried this on three different brands of computers, running Windows 7 and they all crash. The same director projector works fine under Windows XP.
    Director version: 11.5 w/ hotfix 1
    QuickTime Player version: 7.6.6
Windows 7 Professional is fully Updated

Were you looking for someone to test other platforms such as Vista?... or are you looking for verification... or a solution?
I'm guessing a solution is not going to be available, but I would recommend constraining the video from going off the monitor if you haven't already added that 'feature' for win7 (you can test the OS easily enough using the platform property).
Anyways, if you can clarify what assistance you are looking for then that'd help.

  • What format should I use for video in Director 11.5.9?

    I'm running Director 11.5.9 on Windows7, 64 bit with Intel Core i7-2600K CPU @ 3.4GHz with 16 GB RAM.
I'm trying to insert some videos into an existing Director program written in 640x480 rez.  A QT movie looks awful at full screen.  AVI doesn't run at all. Some mpeg xtras no longer work with Director 11, so what formats do I have available to work with in Director 11?
    Thanks.

    Hi Dewey,
Use MP4 H.264 for best results (quality & performances).

  • Please help i have a Quick time video problems

I am currently working on a mac and have created an
application that displays video. The format im using is quick time
and i have imported the video into director and placed it on the
main stage. When i test the project on the mac it works fine but
when i test the published file on a pc the quicktime file does not
display. I have created the application the published it for
windows using a mac, i then insert the cd rom onto a pc and
everything works but the quictime movie. I orinally thought that it
may have been a quictime version problem on the pc but when i play
the quick time file on its own using a pc it plays fine its just
when its on a cd it doesnt show up. Does anyone have any
suggestions is it the way im publishing it or the file type eq dcr
dxr dir. the file im using is a dxr does this help?

Digital video files are not really imported into a Director
movie. They are only linked. You need to carry the original .mov
files with your Director movie on the CD.

  • Using FCP for live video feed

    Hi,
I'm currently shooting with the new HVX200 Panasonic camera. We're using a small, 7" hand-held HD monitor to use for focus-pulling, but I'd like to be able to use a computer monitor or laptop for a live video feed. (director's monitor)
We've considered using the component-out to go into a Component-VGA adapter for a computer monitor, but I'm wondering if we can do a direct feed using FireWire into FCP or something.
Anyone have any experience doing a computer-monitor setup for use with these kinds of cameras?
    Thanks for the help!

    hey there RI,
if you've tried something similar on your iMac & had no problems it's reasonable to think/believe it will work on your MBP, w/ this caveat: the 400 & 800 ports are actually on the same buss, so the 800 port will handle it's data at the lower(400) rate if there is a device on each port. shouldn't affect any editing w/ the drive once the cam is removed from the MBP. it should the run @ the higher rate.
    good luck.

  • DVD Video Control

I remember trying to control a DVD-video disk in MX 2004
(using something in the Goodies folder). I didn't have much luck as
the video play back was stuttering. Does anyone know if v.11 is any
better as controlling a DVD-video disk?

In April Allen Partridge published a list saying: "The
following legacy issues were all FIXED in Director 11...
FIXED ** 25. Crash is happening while tried to change
location of DVD asset to some invalid location. ** FIXED".
I guess this fix addresses just one of the problems of DVD
Event Manager from the Goodies folder.
To say the truth, I have not enough tested DVD-Video with
Director 11, and thus cannot directly answer your question. Certain
features of my project other then DVD keep away from 11.
I do not use and do not like the DVD Event Manager, as it is
restrictive and buggy (at least it was buggy with MX 2004).
Currently, it is much more effective to learn to control DVD-video
directly with lingo, tracking DVD events with DVDeventNotification
handler and using the relevant metods and properties. A good way to
learn the tricks, I think, is to read about similar events, methods
and properties in the documentation to OnStageDVD Professional
Xtra, from the Visible Light. A complimentary way would be to print
out the code of DVD Event Manager of Director.
The OnStageDVD Professional Xtra, in my experience, is more
reliable than DVD cast member of Director. However, the Xtra is for
Windows XP, NT and 2000 only (though Vista was mentioned in their
plans). And it is not for Director 11.

  • DTS quicktime in director

I am playing a quicktime video in director (DTS on), on multiple monitor. When the video spans across the monitors, it crashes but when the video plays only on one screen it plays fine. Is there any bugs in director handling more than one monitor/video card and DTS video?

I replied to you on the lingo forum. Please don't cross-post.

  • Director Player Error : Handler not found in object

    Hi,
I have made an exe to run a video in Director. This was done using old version of director, 8.5 supposedly.
When i try to run video through this exe, the video plays in background but i get the following error(snapshot attached):
    "Handler not found in object
    # openport
    Script Error. Continue?"
I have installed shockwave player 8.5 and also put all the files from xtra folder to the folder where exe in lying but still i am getting the same error.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Looks like something in one of the scripts in your project that is being called but is not working correctly for some reason.
Without seeing the code it's hard to tell what the problem may be. I'm wondering if there's one of the old-style line continuation characters that may be breaking the #openport handler somewhere in your scripts.

  • Playing MPEG video problem

I have this problem when I tried to play MPEG video.
I imported a 10 Mb MPEG video to director cast, it used
    QuickTime to play.
But the video itself plays little slow at first (the sound
was playing smoothly). It's like the video was buffering while
playing itself at the same time. After a few seconds, the video
    plays normally.
My video is 320 x 240 size, running on 24 fps.
    My project is 640 x 480 size, tempo 30.
I've updated my QuickTime player to the latest version.
Yes, I did safe video preloading. I placed the video 5 frames
before it is needed to play.
I checked the following settings :
    Video, Audio, Paused, DTS, Streaming.
and the Playback is set to Sync to Sound.
I tried opening the MPEG with windows media player, and it
    plays smoothly.
But the same problem occured when I tried to play the video
on director stage and director Video: QuickTime preview.
    I wonder what was wrong.
    Please help.

    YES
    that's it.
    that xtra worked.
so there's no other way to play MPEG video without purchasing
    any xtra?

  • Preferred video formats/Codecs other than QT/MOV?

We’ve got a project coming up that will involve a lot
of short (2 min) videos so I’m thinking it’s time to
review our video standards. The source is typically a mastered DVD
video disk (I know, not a good source but most corporate clients
don’t know any better) or in rare cases hi-rez MOV’s
straight off something like an Avid system. Either way we’ve
got to crunch these files into something that plays well with
Director 11/XP-SP2 and Vista (I love Mac’s but it has been a
long time since any of our clients cared if a project was Mac OS
    compatible).
In the past we’ve used MPEG-1, MPEG-2 in limited
circumstances, and our current standard is 720 x 480, WMV-9 (main,
not the advanced profile), 1000-5000kbps depending on storage
constraints. Delivery is almost always disk based so bandwidth is
not an issue however some of our clients like the 3” mini-CDs
(180Mb) and even on a full sized CD storage is often a concern
(distribution of our projects on DVD-ROM is still uncommon). Lately
we’ve been getting requests to convert the source files to
FLV/On2 or Sorenson for web/Flash applications and I’ve been
wondering if it’s time to start using these in Director as
well. Has anyone been using this format or have opinions on getting
the best possible video into Director while still being compatible
with an average corporate user’s PC?

FLV/VP6 is excellent quality with small file size and
    possible to play
within Director with no extra codec/application installed -
    just through
    FlashAsset Xtra. Highly recommended !!!

  • H264 problems in Director 11.5

Has anyone had any problems using H264 video in Director 11.5?  I am using H264 quicktimes exported out of Apple Final Cut Pro.  I've created a test project with 3 Adobe Photoshop graphics and an H264 video.  Sometimes I can import the video, sometimes Director crashes.  Even on those occasions I've been able to import the video, many times once I save the project I will not be able to re-open it.  I get a "Director has exerienced a fatal error and will close" error.
Things seem to be much more stable with quicktimes encoded in Sorenson 3 or encoded with MP4.  I've even re-encoded the H264 video through Premiere Pro CS4 thinking it might be something out of FCP but still have the same problem.
I have confirmed I have the most up-to-date version of Quicktime (7.6.5) and have re-installed Director 11.5.
    Any one else experiencing this?
