Video in DPS

I have a video that I want to use in my folio. Is there a way to conform that video to fit the shape of its placeholder? For example, an oval.
Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, you need to create a "super overlay" that masks the video. For example, create your oval, lay it over the video overlay, and then create an MSO of that oval with Auto Play set to play one time. The oval slideshow will continue to cover the video while it plays. There is an example of this in the Advanced Overlays issue of the free DPS Tips app.

Videos in DPS app not playing with iOS 8 upgrade

Hello,
We've made a DPS App with 14 videos in it and put it on the maximum number of test devices. When all of the devices were running iOS 7 everything was working fine, but devices that have been updated to iOS 8 won't play the video content (on both iPad minis and full size iPads). Please does anyone have any help or advice on what to do to remedy this. We've tried rebuild the App but its made no difference.

The strange thing is: the correct name is still available in the headline of the pdf file when opened. its only wrong in the overview...

Alternative to Flash video in DPS (and video doesn't work)

Hi,
As the titel says I want to put a flash file into my Digital Publication.
I know .swf's aren't suported. I've tried to get it to work in Edge Animate or as a videofile but my Publication won't show any video if i import a .mov, .mp4 or .flv. eventhough the movie file is in the same fodler as the .indd file.
Im all out of luck here. So how would I get this thing to work? and why isn't my video working?

I doesn't show me a poster preview and when im preview the folio on my desktop or tablet it won't show up and the .flv will show but it is frozen and won't play.

Hiding a video in DPS CS6

I'm trying to place a hidden video on my page, triggered by a seperate play button to play full screen. There isn't an option to display a poster image, so I'm not sure how to go about hiding it. Any ideas?

In the Media panel, choose None for Poster. That will make your video object invisible. Then scale the video object down and add a non-interactive play button on top of the video object so that users can tap it to play the full-screen video. (You can also create a separate button with a Video > Play action.)

Videos not playing in Firefox

Hello,
I am testing the web viewer with a couple of interactive forestry publications. They work great on Chrome and Safari, but the videos do not load on Firefox (v27.0.1) on OSX 10.9. I have only tested IE10 on a surface tablet, but it works fine there too. It appears to just be FireFox. I am embedding .mp4 videos. Any tips or help with this?

Update - In Firefox I can right-click on the video in DPS and select 'Play Video' and the video will play fine, but obviously not what I want. Within the folio webviewer the videos will not play, it only shows black.

This may be caused by a recent Flash 11.3 update.

ADOBE DPS Vertical sliding TABS

Hi, I followed both video and DPS tips tutorial on how to create a sliding tab but the one I did which is vertical doesn't seem to lock its from the bottom up. It jiggles left to right when I slide it upwards and downward. Actually wether the tabs is vertical or horizontal, it felt loose.
my container width is 260px and the content width is 250px but as I saw from the video tutorial from http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OmMnH5h2chw&feature=uploademail, fitting the content exactly with the container was not necessary.
please help.

The Strange thing is, when the container is on the right margin, and the 'faux' frame is set left top, you can still drag the pasted in tabframe a little further then the margin, it does not stop there.
See the screenshots for what I mean. I gave it a framecolour here just for the screenshot to show the position of the container frame. I expect it to stop at the right margin but as you can see I can drag it further

Error Cannot Decode

Hi I am trying to run a video in DPS, the video file is mp4 and works in the Adobe Content viewer on my desktop, however when I load the page into Folio Builder and try and view the page on my iPad I get he message 'Error Cannot Decode', see below, can anyone help me to get the video working?
Have run video before and worked fine, was wondering if this might be an iOS8 thing?

For video files, use a format that is compatible with Apple iTunes, such as an MP4 file with h.264 encoding.
If your video does not play properly in the viewer, re-encode the video to .mp4 h.264 using Adobe Media Encoder or a third-party tool such as Handbrake.

Xcode iPhone/iPad Simulator?

Does anyone know if you can use the Xcode iPhone/iPad Simulator for Mac with Indesign and DPS to view on rather than the Indsign viewer? I have seen people like Colin Fleming look to using it in some of his videos on DPS.
One downside to the Indesign view is that it can show things that don't work on an iPad becasue they do work in indesign and it can be confusing at times, especially for new users.
If you can, any help, suggestion, links to how to's would be greatly appreciated.

Adobe DPS: unable to load media after video montage.

Hi there,
I am currently using Adobe Indesign CS6 with the latest update of the Folio panel and work on a digital magazine in which I imported some videos in different extensions (*.mov and *.mp4).
Everything worked fine on iPad, but everytime I make a video montage using Adobe Premiere Pro CS6, a message error "Unable to load media. Please check your internet connection or try again later" appeared on my iPad screen.
I exported my media from Adobe Premiere in *.mp4 using H.264 codecs for Apple TV/iPad/iPhone, dimension 1280 x 720 and also tried with 1024 x 768, but that didn't work.
Then, I imported my original videos without any montage making on DPS, they work fine. One of the original video has an extension *.mov and the other one *.mp4.
I followed the steps that I read on DPS forums by some users facing the same issue, but that didn't make good results.
So, is there anything I have missed in Adobe premiere Pro CS6 as after making video montage, my iPad always displays the message error? and why each time I use the same two videos without passing through Adobe Premiere, I can play the video without trouble?

I tried both softwares Handbreake and Adobe Media Encoder CS6 to render my final editing but it always failed.
However, I restarted my whole video project using a free easy-to-use video editing software I downloaded from the internet, now it works fine on ipad with *.mov extension.
By the way, Adobe Indesign does not support *.m4v.
Anyway, I will go on trying to figure out what's the flaw in Adobe Premiere Pro.

Is it possible to have video with a transparent background in dps?

Is it possible to have video with a transparent background in dps?. Basically i've animated some elements in apple motion and want to incorporate them as an overlay (with the indesign page background showing through).

You could do it with an image sequence but AFAIK there’s no support for alpha channels in video.

Adobe DPS - using video

I am trying to set up an FAQ page with a list of questions on the left which activate videos that appear in the same frame area on the right. I’ve uploaded the video as an object state, and used the button to activate and play the relevant video/state. It works ok in the SWF preview, but crashes InDesign everytime I attempt to upload it as an article. can anyone help me?

Having spent quite a bit of time scratching my head and googling i ended up finding the answer to this myself - so i thought i best post it to help others out.
What i could not comprehend was why a functioning backbone example on the ipad could not be directly copied across to work on the android device - what transpired was that the backbone example was using an older version of the AdobeLibraryAPI - taken from Derek Lu articles (from a few years ago) whilst the Angular version was using the most up to date version of the AdobeLibraryAPI. I found this mentioned and explained on another forum post:

so i went to Adobe DPS - Library and Store SDK 2.32 : Class Index : JsDoc Reference and got the latest version of the API, swopped it out and hey presto the backbone version now works on the android.

I created HTML5 Video autoplay web-content on DPS, but it doesn't play automatically on Adobe Content Viewer.
On mobile Safari, it works well.

No, this is wrong! Apple disabled autoplay inside their native safari app. It's not disable in the whole iOS. Adobe uses a so called UIWebView. It's like mobile safari but with options adobe as a developer can set in the code for dps/content viewer.
So using the webOverlay in dps, adobe utilises said UIWebView (behind the scenes/in code) from Apple and UIWebView has an option to enable autoplay - adobe did NOT choose to enable it. The option is called "mediaPlaybackRequiresUserAction" and is YES by default. By that, ignoring a provided autoplay tag and requiring a real User tap (js clicks dont work since 4.x). Adobe could have set it to "no" and we could use the autoplay tag inside video elements to enable it ourselves.
Why didn't they? I don't know. It would have been ONE line of code. ;(
For placed videos, it is actually also just ONE line of code to enable it. (though they would need to change overlay creator and add checkbox, so we could enable and disable on a per video basis).

Video files for DPS horizontal and vertical

My class built a DPS application last semester, it is heavy in video.
The students built the app in both teh H and V orientations.
When I upload to producer it seems to upload teh video twice once for the V and once for the V -- is there some way to get it so that both orientations used the same file?
I fear teh final folio will be massive in size becuase of all of the video content.

I deleted my previous reply. If you use the same path for the assets shared between h and v versions, each shared asset is uploaded only once. This is true of alternate layouts in InDesign CS6, and I believe it's true for CS5/CS5.5 as well. That was the case in a quick test we did.
