Video IN for PowerBook?
Can anyone list manufacturers besides Hauppauge that make video in adapters for the mac that plug into usb? I'm looking for an adapter to plug into my usb port on my pbook that is small and I can connect my ps2 to it so I can play it on my pbook without the need of a tv.
It is possible that spotlight was indexing your drive. If it happens again, you can use your Activity Monitor application to find out what processes are running. Also, feebsmoney, while I want to welcome you to the Discussions boards, I would also like to respectfully ask that you refrain from using "gay" to refer to something weird or bad when you are posting here. It's a slang usage that some people may employ unthinkingly, but which many people find quite offensive.

I have a DVD-Rom and DVD-Video card for Powerbook and need advice
I acquired 2 accessory components for a G3 series powerbook. I have a dual G4 so have no use for them. There is a M4743 DVD-Rom for Powerbook and a DVD-Video PC card for G3 series Powerbook family M5163. There is also a software CD. I would like to sell them but I really don’t how to explain what this stuff does. I tried Ebay and did not find any matches. Does this make a DVD upgrade for a particular Powerbook? Is something else required? Is Ebay the best place to sell? Any idea what this stuff is worth? Any advice would be greatly appreciated
BobRobert,
You apparently have the DVD Video Player Kit for the Powerbook G3 Series "Wallstreet" M4753.
This is the DVD-ROM module:
http://www.powerbookmedic.com/xcart1/customer/product.php?productid=16219&cat=26 6&page=1
This is the DVD Decoder PC card:
http://www.ifixit.com/cart/customer/product.php?productid=296&cat=&page=1
The above DVD PC card is not Apple's but there were two third-party vendors who also offered a DVD kit...VST and MCE. They all served the same purpose and will all be priced similarly.
Both PC card and optical drive are required to play DVD movies on the Wallstreet, plus Apple DVD Player is only supported when booted to 9.x, not 10.x.
I really cannot give you a fair price to ask; the above hardware prices are probably high but you will get an idea. -
ViewPowr Video card for Powerbook 1400
Just got one of these video cards for my PB1400 -- guess what? no drivers! Surely someone out there can point me in the right direction or just pass the software along. Already tried Newer Technology, no go.
VIEWpowr 1400/16 video output card Newer Technology
Much obliged.I put part of that product name into google and got a bunch of applicable hits:
Google search: VIEWpowr 1400/16 video
Some users indicated the driver is not needed, it just works. -
Wrong 'mini dvi to video' adapter for my 12" Powerbook 1.33
I recently bought the M9319 mini dvi - video adapter for my 12" Powerbook 1.33 to find that the mini dvi on the adapter is a different size to the one on the computer and the adapters supplied with the computer.
I've been doing a bit of research into this and it seems a bit of a grey area. Apple have not made it clear in advertising this product that it is only suitable for the newest 12" Powerbooks and even state that it will work with a 1.33 machine in their following article:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86507
Has anyone had a similar experience, or suggest an alternative product that will work? Did Apple make an older version that works with the 1.33?
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Graeme.Just took the adapter to my local Apple store and they identified it as a mini VGA to video adapter - not what it said on the packaging!
I've noticed a few posts with this problem, so just double check before you leave the store that the packaging matches the product. -
VGA to Video adapter for a late 2004 iBOOK
I found a free TV and thought maybe i could use it as a larger screen format. so i went searching for cable adapters.
I did do a search here in the search query box on word search vga to video and results show related to clam shell versions.
while looking around the Apple web site for a VGA to Video adapter for a iBOOK G4 that shows a CPU speed of 1.2 GHz and a designation of PowerBook6, 5 yes that is how it is written in the System Profiler 'PowerBook6, 5'.
Using a tape measure the screen itself with out the plastic frame shows a width of 9.5 inches , including the plastic frame shows: 11 and one quarter, that could round off to 12 inch even though it is not at or beyond the point 5 mark.
The original paper work is some where ?.
I found a VGA adapter that could possibly work at
http://store.apple.com/us/product/M9109G/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY#overview
yet the wording states: The video adapter cable plugs into the video output port (mini-VGA) built into the back of the computers listed in the compatibility section below.
Compatible with:
iBook without an external reset button, eMac, iMac G5, or 17-inch iMac (1GHz) with mini-VGA port.
does not say much for the laptop.
There is shown a VGA adapter for the iBook here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2721?viewlocale=en_US
yet finding it at the store ???
if i copy the part number in a search query at the store the results show a Lexmark copy machine.
I found many DVI adapters at:
http://store.apple.com/us/product/M9319G/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY#overview
And then here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TA27124?viewlocale=en_US
as copied and pasted here:
The Apple Mini-DVI to S-Video/Composite Adapter does not work with PowerBook G4 (12-inch) computers,
the one thing i have notice is that no compatibility charts actually show support for the 1.2 GHz iBOOK G4.
I also see that there are Mini DVI to VGA adapters, Mini ?, does mention pin numbers ??.
I was wondering if i could crossover the DVI to VGA thru the adapters using VGA and DVI cables, yet pin numbers and compatibility questions still remain.
Suggestions ?
Thank you.http://store.apple.com/us/product/M9109G/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY#overview
The adapter in the above link is the one you need.

iDVD is no player, but a 'maker' for DVDs.
the DVDplayer.app plays both standards, NTSC and PAL..
you can switch the video standard as often as you like
but...
aside video standards, there's - for commercial DVDs - another thing, called RegionCode, which is another kind of DRM..
your drive (RC is a hradware thing) allows only 5 times to switch the RC..
iM and iDVD supports both standards for editing and producing DVDs.
to import a non-copy protected, non-commercial DVD into any app, it needs a conversion process. use the boards Search feature to find answers to this very popular request..
for 'ripping' commercial DVDs, you will not find any answers here, this topic would violate the ToU of thi sboard … -

2 X person video chat for Intel Qs
Hey I know the specs required for doing a multi person (eg, more than 2 people) video chat for PowerPC processors, however I was wondering what the spec requirements are for the Intel ones... I am primarily directing this towards the Mac Mini Solo v. Duo which I am assuiming the Solo could be the only one that might have limitations (like my poor powerbook...).
SO my question is can a Mac Mini Solo HOST a multi person video chat OR is it like my powerbook and other "slower" apples that can only join multi chats yet cannot host them? AND if the Solo cannot HOST a multi person video chat CAN it at least JOIN a multi person video chat?
AND finally JUST to make sure there are no compatabilities problems, can a intel based apple multi-video chat with a powerpc apple?
Thank you,
TMHi T.M.,
Go to System Preferences and then Quicktime.
Select the Streaming tab.
In the drop down se the speed to match your download speed.
If it faster than 1.5meg then use 1.5 meg.

Pinnacle Video Capture for Mac
After talking with a bunch of salesmen (considering getting a DvD writer), I took the advice of someone in the Apple Store and bought a Pinnacle Video Capture for Mac to copy my laserdiscs. It was $100 before tax, and didn't do stuff I don't plan on doing anyway. I did spend another $25 to get an S-video cable.
I installed the software and connected it up to my LD. I started capturing the movie, and selected S-Video (although in the small window they showed, I didn't see any difference between that and video out. I selected a max time from a limited selection, and let it record.
After a while, I went downstairs and saw that the audio and video were not synchronized at all. I let it continue.
After a while I came down again, and the movie was finished, so I stopped it. I found the MP4 - it was in the iTunes movie directory, and played it in iTunes. I fast-forwarded it to near the end, the voice and video were way off-set.
I haven't tried burning this yet.
Quicktime player doesn't think this is a valid movie file. I selected "open with" and "other" and the recommended applications had iMovie greyed out.
Why in the world would the audio and video record at different speeds?
Do I have to buy software to edit the movie down to the correct size?
My Mac has:
Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac7,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 4 MB
Memory: 2 GB
Bus Speed: 800 MHz
Boot ROM Version: IM71.007A.B03
SMC Version: 1.21f4
I noticed the Pinacle Video Capture program was still running, so I tried to quit it, and got a window asking for my administrator ID and passsword to allow Pinnacle Video Capture to make changes. Why?The audio drifted out of sync because the Dazzle doesn't support locked audio. For short videos (say, under 10 minutes) this won't be very noticeable but when you capture longer videos it becomes progressively worse over time.
What do you want to do with your Laserdisk copies? Watch them on your iPod? Edit and/or burn to DVD?
A device like the Canopus ADVC-110 will do the video/audio conversion properly, keeping the audio and video in sync regardless of the length of your video. It converts to DV, not to MP4, and you would use it with iMovie or Final Cut (not iTunes). However you can export your video from iMovie or Final Cut to iPod/AppleTV formats.
The Dazzle device will not work directly with iMovie or Final Cut.
ps. If all you really want to do is transfer your Laserdisc videos to DVDs, it will be a whole lot faster & simpler to get a DVD player/recorder that has analog inputs and record directly to DVDs. There are many brands & models to choose from and many good ones are as inexpensive as the $100 you spent on the Pinnacle converter. -
Incorrect and Un-Changeable 'Video Kind' for Videos Purchased From iTMS
Since I can't seem to find any other way to contact Apple except through paid support channels, their suggestion is to post something here. Hopefully this re-wording of other posts I've read will shed more light on the problem.
To Apple:
Some videos purchased from the iTunes music store have an incorrect 'Video Kind' which means they are sorted incorrectly in iTunes using Apple's new interface in version 7.
Old Battlestar Galactica episodes have a 'Video Kind' of 'Movie' instead of 'TV Show', so they don't appear in the iTunes smart category as TV shows. They appear in 'Movies', and they shouldn't.
The field for these files is locked/ghosted/unchangeable, I'm assuming because of ridiculous DRM requirements or an oversight. But you are enforcing rules which cause your program to incorrectly sort files, and not allowing your customers to fix the problem.
I want all my TV shows to list in your 'TV Shows' top category, but I can't change the 'Video Kind' for those files (bought via the iTunes music store). I have expected this problem to work itself out in the last few iTunes updates, but it hasn't yet. And there are many threads about this in your discussion forums.
Please unlock the 'Video Kind' field in iTunes for videos downloaded from the iTunes music store (Prison Break Season 1, Battlestar Galactica, The Office Season 1, Surface, etc), or give us some kind of utility that will allow us to correct the mis-categorization.
Thank you!
-TonyI quite agree. I'm not sure how much attention, if any, the iTunes dev. team pay to these groups however. The formal feedback route is via iTunes Feedback, where sadly, I suspect, not much attention is paid either.

which cable do I need to connect my Mac Book Pro to my Panasonic PV-GS150 video camera for transferring video to iMovie?
I totally understand.
Check some things from here, I have 2 and they have been great so far.
Check here, lots of storage and reasonable prices. Also great support, you get to speak to a person
Clean off your on the G5 drive and off you go.
I suggest buying a second drive and setting it up for a back up, Time Machine or Carbon Copy Cloner, or SuperDuper (both "bootable" back up) All searchable on the web.
http://eshop.macsales.com/search/elite+pro
You can talk to a person for REAL advice, Phone: 800.275.4576 Ask about exporting to your G5 and and exporting to your existing OSX, you may only need a small inexpensive drive for this.
Quick delivery and willing to help.
Hope this makes you back up and running :-)
Do get a back up drive, as it is not ""whether my drive will fail, as much as "when my drive fails"

DVI to s-video adpater for Power Mac G4?
I'm attempting to view digitial photos on my Power Mac G4 on an HDTV with an s-video connection. I've tried Apple's "DVI to video adapter" for the Power Mac G5, but it doesn't work, even after clicking "Detect Displays".
Is there a DVI to s-video adapater from Apple or anybody else that will work with the Power Mac G4? If not, are there any other options? The Apple DVI to Video converter only works with certain graphics cards. The card has to be able to generate interlaced video at the correct scan rate, and modulate the color onto a carrier signal. For other card you would need a scan converter like:

This device has a VGA input, so you might need a DVI to VGA adapter. There may be other devices available with DVI input. -

View Solution.Hi:
See if this driver works. If it doesn't, you will need to install a 64 bit operating system if you want to run windows 7.
I know this driver works for the Celeron N processors, but I don't know if it will work with the Pentium N processors.
Download, unzip and run the setup.exe file.

Mac Mini s-video vs. PowerBook s-video quality
Is there notable difference between Mac Mini's s-video output (with the DVI to s-video adapter) and PowerBook G4 1.67 s-video output?
I'm asking this because I've found PowerBook s-video output to be quite good. I can easily use my Powerbook on a CRT 28" WS TV. If Mac Mini delivers same quality, I'm quite sure I will get one to replace DVD, CD and digi-tv on the living room.
This subject briefly surfaced on another thread, but I decided to ask it more visibly.Yep,
I have the powerbook 1.67 and a mac mini core duo, the powerbook handles s-video really well in terms of resolutions however the mini fails, it cannot manage anamorphic displays which are rubbish if youve got a widescreen tv. However in terms of quality they are both great even though the powerbook has 128mb video card the mini easily matches. -
Final Cut Timeline Feed as video source for iChat?
I was at the Apple NAB presentation in Vegas a few weeks ago, and one of the things they showcased in regard to iChat AV was the ability for an editor to videoconference with several other people at once and one of the video feeds in the chat window was actually the output from the editor's Final Cut Pro timeline. As he made changes in the FCP timeline, he could play it out in real time and all the people in the chat could see the video feed and make comments on the edit.
OK- so we were excited because that's a workflow issue we have here. So, we bought some iSight cameras and Tiger and started to do some testing here. The only problem is that it doesn't seem very easy to set up. At first I just thought, "well, they are just playing the timeline out of the firewire port on the FCP machine and another computer is ingesting that firewire stream as a video source for iChat." except when you connect 2 Macs together with a firewire cable, the FCP system doesn't detect a DV video device to output to and the iChat system doesn't detect the incoming firewire stream as a "camera". I spoke to tech support and they said it's not something they support so no luck there.
I did find an article on Creative Cow about someone doing something similar, but it involved exporting the FCP timeline out through a Kona analog video card into an external tape deck that does analog to DV conversion which then can be imported back into iChat as a DV stream, but last time I checked, a Kona card would run me around 1500 bucks.
Anyone have any other ideas?HI Jeremy,
Welcome to the Aple Discussion Pages.
Based on the Auto Responding iChat Accounts that play films I would guess they were either using an AppleScript to import FCP as the Video sourdce or usiing an Add-On like iChatUSBCam that also alows you to change the video source to the desktop.
iChatUSBcam has a new beta for Tiger http://www.ecamm.com/mac/ichatusbcam/
