Video in Menu

I've been trying to incorporate a video in my menu, but despite many tutorials I'm still struggling. Below is my created menu. I've created it so that I can play a video within the large white area that takes up the bottom left corner of the menu. I would like the video to play beneath the design above it AND have the 'play' button active simultaneously, but it seems the diagonal cut is making things difficult. Any help please?

I did pull up another preset menu from Encore - one with a video asset already attached. When I previewed that, the menu was visible, but the video that was attached to it did not play either. Perhaps, the preview doesn't play everything in the menu? Or am I missing something?
Did you render the motion menu for this one?  This should work, so try to sort this out.
Ok. As far as the Photoshop avenue goes, when I edit the menu in Photoshop the bottom video layer is visible with all of the layers.
The bottom layer, the one named "background," should not technically be a video layer, it should be the "still" of the menu background.  When linked in Encore, and rendered, Encore should play that video instead of the still background.  I assume that is what you are seeing in PS.
With the main layer (which is the layer of the graphic at the very top) I have to lessen its opacity in order to see the video layer.
So this is the graphic that is to the upper part of the screen from the diagonal, right?  Are you saying that you do not see the background layer to the bottom part of the screen from the diagonal unless you decrease the "main" layer opacity?  If so, this is the "full frame" layer that is blocking you.  If you are saying that the upper part blocks the upper part of the background, that is what you want, right?
When I add a white layer just above the bottom, it is visible with every other layer - including the main one as well. When I go back into Encore and preview the white layer, it is visible with each and all of the others. The bottom video layer is only visible when all others are invisible. Do you think that making these layers into buttons will change the outcome?
That makes no sense.  If the background is being blocked by the "main" layer, then the white one should be as well.
If you want to post the menu psd, we can take a look at it.

  • Playback of DVD Studio Pro 4 built SD video file - Menu 1 screen is WHITE!!

I recently upgraded from FCP 4.5 with DVD Studio Pro 3 to FCS with DVD Studio 4. I have resolved a number of problems with the upgrade by reading "Apply Discussions", however, I need help with the following: When I import my mpeg2 and AC3 files into DVD SP4, I use the DVD SP4 palette to select an Apple Template for my MENU 1. (I like the "Theater Interior" menu template.) When I view the final product with the DVD SP4 simulator, everything is great including the colors in MENU 1. So, I build my program onto my desktop, the same way I did when I had DVD SP3. Now, the problem begins. When I view the built video TS file on my G5 Apple DVD player, or format it to a standard DVD-R with my pioneer 106D burner and play it back on my in-house DVD player, when the program MENU 1 is displayed on the monitor, it is WHITE in color. The menu is set to times out in 20 seconds. Once that happens, the programs runs perfectly. However, what's with the white menu screen? I can barely make out the buttons. When I click on a button, it operates and the color and program work perfectly from that point. I there an option to get rid of the white screen when the menu comes up? Somehow, when DVD SP4 builds the video file, MENU 1 is encoding with a white background rather than with the colors of the Apple template in use. This did not happen with DVD SP3. Can you help me?

try switching the menu encoding from software to hardware (or vice versa) in your DVDSP preferences and see if that makes a difference for you.

  • Flash videos and menu boxes jump up and down, what would cause this?

After installing Firefox 4, all flash videos and menu boxes jump up and down. I have removed and reinstalled the flash plug in to no avail. This does not affect the playback, just the border of the video or menu box. Other browsers do not do this. Just wondering why this happens?

    OK, solved the problem...
I '''''DELETED''''' the file LOCALSTORE.RDF with FF closed. Restarted and everything was back to normal.

  • I can't get my cursor to completely leave the screen, so when I'm watching videos on some services the video control menu stays at the bottom of the screen. How do I make it disappear so I don't have to see the progress bar and stop/start buttons?

When I watch certain video services like amazon or Netflix and enter full screen, when I move the cursor a video menu pops up on the bottom of the screen and won't disappear until the cursor goes offscreen. But my cursor won't go fully off screen. Just the tip remains visible so the video menu doesn't leave.

What happens if you simply click the trackpad in the movie area before the cursor disappears?  Does that cause the video menu to disappear?

  • Video IPOD Menu's to TV

I want to use my IPOD as a digital music server and not a video server. Can I output the menu's from my IPOD to my TV and control via a remote.

If 'Tv-out' would be under 'Settings' in the main menu in stead of only under 'Photos' and 'Videos' it would be solved ?? Is there third party software or should Apple be asked to solve this. It would be nice to be able to use the remote control from more then a meter distance....

  • Build to Flash - won't support video for menu backgrounds?

I spent hours on a project that includes After Effects motion menu components included as a video background with a loop point. What looks great in preview and on DVD apparently falls a part in Flash. Flash doesn't show the video background in the main menu. Also - it sure would be nice if Encore included a "preload" progress bar for progressive downloads.
Anyone an expert with using Encore to build to Flash?  Are there any other do's and don't I should know about?

    Thanks for your response...
I can wait.  After all, it was by waiting for the release of the 10h version after the 10e version sabotaged my flash installation, that I was eventually able to at least get Firefox up and running flash again...
It's just frustrating to think that the folks at Adobe can't come up with a better product testing cycle so they are unleashing these problems on end users systems...
I recognize that there may be some sort of issue with my particular system registry.  If so, I wish I knew what it was...but flash releases are the only installations I ever have any difficulty with...All of the other software I run updates without failing....sad to say...
Perhaps I will try running a home edition version of secedit (See here)http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313222 instead of the clean or repair install...I'll let you know what I decide and how it works out...
    Anyway, thanks for the input..

  • CHOPPY VIDEO ON MENU AND DROP ZONES

I am ready to burn the DVD but the video on a menu page is very choppy. The drop zone is rotating slowly, etc.
Any ideas on why this is happening? Any ideas on how to fix it?
    Thanks.

    Steve:
As good practice save the project as a disk image (File->Save as Disk Image menu option) instead of burning directly to disk. This allows you to play the disk image in DVD Player to verify that the encoding of the project was good. If the project plays OK in DVD Player you can then burn that disk image to disk with Disk Utility at the slowest speed available. If there is any problems with the disk playing it can then be narrowed down to the burn process. Also use the top grade media. Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden or Maxell -R are the most recommended brands in this forum.

  • Still Frame vs Video Loop Menu Button Issues

    Hello,
I have a home video of a wedding I am trying to burn to a DVD using iDVD. I have 7 chapter markers in the movie and I would like to use still clips from the video as the icons in the chapter menu buttons. However, once I select "still image", I can no longer scroll through the entire movie to select the image I want. Instead, it only gives me the first 1 minute 37 seconds of the clip. Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong?
    Thanks,
    Joe

Nevermind, I have figured it out.

  • Video before Menu skips

    Hey guys,
I'm trying to finish a DVD in Studio Pro 3. I've more or less got the hang of the program.
When the DVD starts, I want to have a quick 5 second graphic of my company logo fade in and fade out, then go to the menu. Easy enough.
But, for some reason, the intro video stutters and skips a few times. I've tried re-exporting the clip from FCP and have made an entirely new clip in FCP and exported it, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. The video clip has a jerky motion to it no matter what. I've tried everything I can think of to overt this but nothing seems to do the trick. Has anyone else experienced this?
    Thanks,
    pat

    Patrick
FCP will not set the Max Rate, what you should do is export the movie as self contained and then use Compressor (sending it from FCP to Compressor is another option, but self contained seems to work better andd quicker.)
The 2 hour version may (not sure if it does, do not have settings) drop the Max Rate but it would drop thee average rate.
What you should do is check the settings by double clicking the preset in the preset window.
What you can do is also "make your own".
Take a look at this movie here
    http://www.dvdstepbystep.com/qc.php
to see how you can make your own settings - note the AC3 settings in particular for items that you should check/uncheck.
The m2v section (which is actually first) just shows how the controls work in general and do not mean they have to be your actual settings.

  • How to insert interstitial video between menu and track?

I've been making simple menus in DVD Studio Pro, but I'm trying to make a Menu for someone who wants a short video to play before the Menu loads (on start up) and then a short video to play after you make a Menu selection (but before it actually plays that selection). I don't have the first idea how to do that. Can anyone help? Thanks so much!

    First play: Track 1
End jump track 1: Main menu
Main menu has, lets say, 3 buttons representing 3 different videos.
    Track 1: Intro video
Track 2: The video to play before each of the 3 other videos.
    Track 3: Video/button 1
    Track 4: Video/button 2
    Trach 5: Video/button 3
Create 3 Stories in track 2, each with a different end jump.
Story 1: End jump track 3
Story 2: End jump track 4
Story 3: End jump track 5
Link stories to buttons and you should be home free.

  • Resizing video in menu?

I am new to Encore.   I have a project that was shot on 16:9   and exported that way.    I connected the video and audio to the motion section of the menu building feature in Encore.    Well, my problem is that the video shows up way to small.  Is there anyway to resize the video so it takes up the entire screen?   I have the dvd menu set as 16:9 .   The assets that are 16:9 play as such.  for some reason the video on the menu is tiny.   Any suggestions?

I made it my menus background.
After playing around I discovered that I could choose send to encore from premire.
That really helped.  Everything fit and it was wide screen.  I still have an issue with sending an asset over from premire it will launch a new project in encore... should i just export assets?

  • Set desired in and out of audio video in menu...

Sorry - so basic but can't figure out - how do I set the in and out point for audio playing during the menu and the video that is being viewed in the menu? Thanks!

You mean using Motion eus? Look Motion Menu up in the manual for the details. It's not intutive. You select the button and then open the inspector and you will see a media tab where you can set the in point. You cannot select the outpoint since Motion Menus are 30 seconds by default. Adjusting the loop point for the entire menu is described, confusingly, in the manual.

  • Botton video on menu gets pixelated and pulses when burt DVD is played back

Created a menu with buttons that contain video from the same asset it plays. They were HD mpegs that were converted to SD for the project. When viewed in simulator, everything looks fabulous. However, when I burn the disc and play it back on a laptop, the video in the button looks really compressed and has a weird pulse. Note-The target track plays fine. Can anyone help?

  • Folder of Videos as Menu Button?

I have about 200 short videos in five folders. I want each folder to be a menu button and when you press it, all the videos inside will play as one long movie.
For example, the first folder is "Monday", the next "Tuesday", etc. These are clips from a recent vacation organized--obviously---by day.
    Can this be done?

anyone? can this be done in Toast?
