Video in scene selection menu

Hello: I've successfully created a scene selection menu using chapter markers. Looks good, but when I go into simulator and check out the scene selection menu, I noticed that the video begins to play from the marker points without stopping. How do I create an end or loop point for all the chapters that are displayed on the scene selection menu?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

Thank you for your reply. However, I think I've done a poor job describing my issue. What I have is a motion picture that I want users to be able to choose "Play Movie" from the main menu, or "Scene Selection." If they choose "Scene Selection" they get the menu with the chapters laid out. If they choose a chapter, then they can jump to that part of the movie and watch it from that point on till the end. I've got all that working.
My problem is on the scene selection menu itself. The video samples that are shown in each chapter window or button start up and don't loop back, so essentially, if you jump to the scene selection menu, you're watching the movie from several different start points, and it just runs on till the end if you don't turn it off. I like the fact that you can view a video snippet in each chapter window, but I want to be able to limit how much is played and have it loop back.

  • In scene selection mode, can you make iDVD return to the scene selection menu after playing that scene without continuing to play all the other scenes?

After selecting one scene from the scene selection menu, the following scenes play automatically, as if it were in "play movie" mode. Is there a way to stop that behavior and have the DVD return to the scene selection menu after playing just the selected scene?

    OK
So what You want is a "Play All" button resp. a "Play one Chapter at a time" one.
    Then
BAD News - There are Non ! in iDVD
GOOD News - it can in part be faked.
    read on
Play all resp. one chapter at a time
    Play All Button
    1. There are NO - Play All - button in any version of iDVD
    2. It can be faked in several ways
    • Easiest and most fault proof way is to make a doublet movie containing All and with
Chapters set to match. It will take up x2 space but is easy to understand and produce.
Cons: Tried this in iMovie’11 by Exporting out each part as a full Quality QT.mov then Importing back into new events and putting these into a new project (Play All project). Resulting DVD had Audio that was OK (as parts) - BUT the picture was very bad and standing photo were cut of in height. So the Play All movie has to be created from same material and exactly in the same way as the individual parts + then Chapters has to be set to match.
    • It's said that one can put all movies into a Photo/SlideShow and this will also
give the function of a Play All button - Tested - and ONE HAS TO un-cheque - Scale pictures to TV-Safe area else it will be a black frame all around and a small picture !

You might be able to get close to what you want by using a slideshow in iDVD. (It's not widely known, but you can put videos in a slideshow.) If you set the slide duration to manual, playback will pause after each movie/slide, and you can continue with the 'next' button.
    3. Using another program to do this e.g.. Roxio Toast™ where there is a Play All button option.
    Summary
    a. Making a Play All movie with same care as the individual Part movies - gives a very Good Result
    b. Using Roxio Toast™ - also an usable way to go

  • Why no audio on scene select menu?

Any ideas on why I get no sound after adding audio track from iTunes to scene selection menu?
The track is shown correctly in the menu info/inspector well, but just does not play.
The same track works OK as audio track on main menu, but is silent when "Scene Select" is clicked.
I have experienced this problem using several templates (but not all) and presume either I am doing something wrong or that the template is bugged.
I have tried all methods of adding audio to the menu.
The background video runs OK, and scene select works OK, just without audio.

With further experimentation, I find that the top menu and scene select menu audio works properly if I start a new iDVD project and import the iMovie into it, rather than letting iMovie pass it to iDVD automatically.
Hope this may be of help to someone....

  • How to create "Scene Selection" Menu

I'm new to dvd studio pro & thought I was on the right track when I created chapter markers in Final Cut & exported as a quicktime w/ markers, but the dvd studio program either does not recognize the chapters, or I do not know where to look for them. I'm finding the manual very confusing, as it does not appear to directly say how to make up a scene selection menu using the chapter markers. Maybe I'm reading in the wrong place?
If anyone has some pointers, it would be appreciated.

Take a look here for a workaround if markers not showing up (there are others)

  • Scene Selection Menu Question

I will try and make this question as unconfusing as possible. I have a DVD with a basic menu screen. It offers to play the whole film or go to the scene selection menu. When I go to the scene selection menu obviously I have the option to do just that. When I select a scene (or chapter) it will play it. My question is, if I have picked the wrong scene or I just want to go back to the scene selection menu, how do I make that happen? If I press menu it will just take me back to the main menu. It seems tedious to do it that way to keep having to go back to the main menu then to the scene selections menu. In short
What do I need to do to make the dvd go back to the scene selections menu when it was the last one selected?

What do I need to do to make the dvd go back to the scene selections menu when it was the last one selected?
You can also program the remote control's functions specifically for your DVD. It's not easy to understand in the manual but it's all explained. For instance, you could program the TITLE or MENU keys to return specifically to the scene selection menu. The problem with changing the programming is that's how the key will work for your entire disk unless, of course, you can figure out how to use the user memory registers and write a little script that will have conditionals.

  • Scene Selection Menu Issue

On the menu theme 'Sliding Panes', once the DVD is burned, the chapters aren't sequencing properly on the scene selection page on my DVD player (or any player). For example, when 'Chapter 1' is highlighted on my scene selection menu, a click to the right, which should be 'Chapter 2', does nothing. Random directions navigate the buttons, and the biggest problem is that NO direction gets me to the forward arrow, so there's no way to get to scenes 7-12. Thanks for your help.

Often this is a problem with "overlapping" buttons. Do you have long text names for the buttons or are they crowded at all? Did you move them or are they in the default spots? Leave lots of space around the buttons, don't crowd them near each other.

  • Changing scene selection menu action

I'm trying to create a DVD with a particular theme. Everything works fine until I try the Scene Select button in the Preview Mode. When the Scene Selection menu comes up it is using a theme from a previous project. I am unable to change this to the theme being used in the first menu for this project.
How can I cancel the old project theme out of the Scene Selection menu?
Or how can I change it once I've started a project using a particular theme?
Thanks for any help you can give!

If you go to the main menu and then Advanced/Apply Theme To Project, it won't do that? If not:
This frequently helps solve some problems. Quit iDVD. Search for the file named com.apple.iDVD.plist and trash it. (A new one will be created next launch of iDVD.) Or look in: User/Library/Preferences. This may solve project loading errors too. Restart and use Disk Utility to Repair Permissions.

  • Scene Selection Menu Page Problem

I just installed iLife 06 on my computer, updating me from iLife 05. When I opened an old project with iDVD and selected a new theme page(s), "Refection White Chapters" the scenes in the preview scrolled out of order. Instead of going from left to right they went diagonally; not in the sequence they were set. That doesn't seem right.

Don;t know how to fix your problem, but I never upgrade in the middle of iMovie/iDVD projects.....

  • Encore CS5 main feature and scene selections from same Video?

    Hi all,
I have tried to search for a previous thread, in case there was one, but cannot see it. So, would really appreciate your help, please. I have contacted Adobe helpline when I first got the programme a few years ago, but always ended up speaking to people who did not know themselves. This took up a lot of time and still not resolved.
I usually author Blu-rays in Encore CS5 and cannot seem to grasp how to use the same video import to both, link to the 'Play Main Video' (so it plays the full video) and use the same timeline for scene selections.
When using the one video for both, I try to create the links to main video as Play all and in the scene selection menu, I link to the selected scenes. This results in the main video play stopping at, where the first scene selection starts and goes back to menu.
My 'workaround' to this has been to import the main video and import a cut down version of scenes edited in Pre Pro CS5. This takes up more file space and I am sure slows down the encoding/ converting to image file.
I would like to import the video once only. Use a link to play full video and use the scene selection menu to select the scenes.
I hope I have explained my dilemma clearly.
    Thanking you in advance.

It stops because you probably put end actions on each chapter.
There are two main methods for chapter play if you have created a single video for the whole movie (so it is on one timeline).
The method that puts end actions on the chapters requires you to use overrides, and is difficult for many users.
The easier method is using chapter playlists. Create a CHAPTER playlist, put one chapter in it, then link the chapter button to that chapter playlist. There will be one chapter playlist for each chapter. Each chapter itself has no end action set, and you set the end action for each chapter playlist to "last menu."
Since there are no end actions on chapters, when you play the timeline, it plays all the way through.

  • Scene Selection False Start

    Hi there,
I'm currently working on the DVD for a feature length film. The DVD includes working video special features and I'm trying to install a scene selection menu now. Unfortunately when I press a button corresponding to a chapter it plays maybe the first frame before returning me to my scene selection menu. The same thing happens when I try to "Preview From Here" on a specific chapter, when it is right clicked on the timeline. The chapters have no overrivdes or end actions attached to them. Any idea how to solve this problem?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
    Andrew

It works now. I clicked the Preview DVD playback triangle button (as I had done before) and waited for the main menu to appear. After mousing over the words "Scene Selection" the yellow circle was adjacent to scene selection I then clicked on the words "Scene Selection" and was taken to the scene selection menu showing the 3 scenes I had set up.
My mistake before was in clicking on the yellow filled-in circle. Nothing happens.
In design mode (with the four submode buttons shown) navigation is not predictable.
    Thanks for your help.

  • How to add a second page to scene selections link

I imported a QuickTime that has 12 chapter markers.  iDVD automatically creates the main page that has two links:  "Play Movie" and "Scene Selection".  When I try to burn the DVD, I get an error telling me that the "Scene Selection" page has more than 12 buttons.   If you add the 12 scene titles and the back arrow button, then there are 13 buttons.  Therefore, I must add another page that will contain at least one of the 12 scene titles.  My question is, how can I keep the one main page so that when I click on "Scene Selection", it takes me to a second page that has a few scene titles and also has a page advance arrow that if clicked, will take me to the next page of scene selections.  The only way I can figure out how to do it is to have the main page contain two links: one for scenes 1 - 6 and one for scenes 7 - 12.  What am I missing?  Thanks for any help.

On the scene selection page use the "+" button to create a new submenu page:
Select the last scene link, go to the submenu and paste.  Go into the Preview mode and make sure the link works.  Then go to the first scene selection menu and delete that last scene link.
If you copy and paste more than one link to the subkmenu remember the order they are added to that menu determines the order they will be highlighted when using the DVD player's remote device.

  • Some of my scenes selection menus won't turn or play sound.

My main menu and the first scene selection menu has motion and sound, but the rest of the scene selection menus do not turn or play sounds (music).  How can I get them to work?

First create a disk image of the project and see if those menus work as expected when played with DVD Player on your Mac.  If they do then the problem lies in the burning process.
Follow the workflow described below to help assure the best quality disk possible:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Scene selection problems in idvd 06

The scene selection menu works fine in the dvd preview, but during playback on the burned dvd, I'm not able to access alternate scenes from that menu. The dvd starts at the beginning of the project no matter which scene I've selected.

First thing to do is run some basic maintenance on your system. See here for what to do and free downloadable apps to do it...
    http://www.macattorney.com/ts.html
Next, after you clean up the system, load in your iDVD project and use the "Delete Encoded Assetts" menu command. Then try re-encoding/burning your project again. Although this time you might want to do it to a disk image first, check to make sure the disk image plays correctly, and if so then put that disk image on an actual blank.

  • Adding scene selection button

How do I add a button that links to the scene selection on the disc menu?

When you add Scene Markers to your Timeline, PrE will automatically add the link from a Scene Selection Button (from either the Main Menu, or a Scene Selection Menu, depending on the chosen Template) automatically, and will even create any necessary Scene Selection Menus, to accommodate the number of Scene Markers that you have.
In PrE, such linking is done automatically, and requires not input from the user, beyond the creation of those Scene Markers, and the choice of Menu Template.
In many other authoring programs, and especially full-featured programs, like Adobe Encore, those links ARE done manually.
Good luck, and hope that helps,
    Hunt
