Video in Timeline freezes

My video in the timeline freezes. It continues to play the audio, and will pick back up... but why is my video freezing in certain parts of the timeline.
If I export to avi. it plays just fine.
I just upgraded my processor, because I thought my dual core 2 processor 2.6 wasn't enough...but that didn't solve the problem.
Computer:
Intel Quad Core 2
2.83 ghz 3.50 gb
NVIDIA GeForce 880GT
Asus P5N-E SLI motherboard

That is a very good plan. It could well be that the freezing could be caused by the hard disk bottleneck. Your new CPU may no longer be the major bottleneck, even with AVCHD material. Did you have a look at these guides:

The hard disk has been previously checked with state of the art techniques that have confirmed that the hard disk drive is in perfect condition.

I have restored this
from a time machine partition.
TimeMachine is only a backup and restore, it won't fix issues in software and according to your information, doesn't even optimize the restore for best performance on boot hard drives.

There shouldn't be need to reinstall OS X fresh unless your having file structure issues which if they are should appear when in the Steps, which then a zero erase and install will cure as well as any bad sector issues, the defrag step wouldn't be necessarry on a freshly installed system obviously as the files are written all together, not in portions all over the drive.

When i'm watching a show or movie on iTunes, the video will randomly freeze and the audio will continue, the video catches up after awhile, but it does it again. This happens to all my shows, and I downloaded them from iTunes. Why is this happening?

Whenever I try to watch movies on iTunes on my computer, the video will randomly freeze, but the audio will continue. This happens will all of my shows, however this never happens on my iPod or iPad. Whenever I want to watch a new movie I buy or any of my shows this problem keeps happening. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling and it did not work. Photoshop CC 2014 3D positioning in video animation timeline

I'm a mac user and experimenting with the 3D and video timeline features. All I am trying to do is make a small custom shaped logo spin in place although it starts to spin around an axis that is off camera. My instructor at school did the exact same process that I've been doing on her computer, and it worked flawlessly which leads me to believe there is a snap, pin, or setting that my computer has turned on/off. I have found the 'Edit Pins' option in the View tab but I have not been able to select it as it is grayed out. Is that where the answer to my problem is? If not then where? The object that i am trying to rotate in this situation will move from the origin point whenever i try to apply a transformation of any kind, such as rotating, scaling, and moving.
There is a similar problem that i have found on this forum, Photoshop CC 2014: 3D Scene Position Missing - Video Animation Timeline is the title of it although it has not been answered. This question was posted about the same time of my problems started as well. After a good amount of hours I haven't found anything close to an answer.

I don't do 3D animations, but Seb Zaremba said it worked in the former Photoshop CC. You can have both version installed on your computer. Go to the Creative Cloud app and Apps>Filter & version>previous versions. There you will find the installer for CC (2013). Give it a try.

Photoshop CC 2014: 3D Scene Position Missing - Video Animation Timeline

The 3D Scene Position line in the video animation timeline - missing in 2014.2.1 (CC 2014 up-to-date) ... I have tried all the posted work arounds; using 3D Meshes but the movement from center problem is still present... the answer provided in other posts about this being moved to the Scene group is entirely unhelpful. The 3D Camera post saying it was just renamed is not correct this does not rotate the object. What is the answer or the problem, is there a solution within Photoshop CC?

Video on youtube freezes for a moment

On youtube when I start playing a video the picture freezes for a few seconds, sound works ok, then it plays as it should be. this happens in a safe mode too. hardware acceleration is disabled.

CS5.5.1 and Blackmagic - timeline freeze - a solution!

As you can read here and in other forums, the Premiere Pro CS 5.5.1 update causes problems with some Blackmagic configurations. In my case the timeline freezes on clips with effects dropped on - these clips are not shown or rendered anymore. Sometimes PPro quits and reported system error on one of the Blackmagic plugins. This all happend after the update to PPro CS5.5.1.
Here's my config:
PPro CS5.5.1
Win7 Pro SP1
Nvidia Quadro 2000 (driver 275.89)
Blackmagic Intensity Pro (driver 8.6)
Now my solution:
After a day of try and error I've found out, that the file 'display.dll' in PPro's program directory causes the problems. I backed it up and then overwrote it by the file that comes with the 5.5.0 version. After that I haven't had any problems anymore. I cannot say why it works, but it works (for me).
So if anyone having trouble with Blackmagic and 5.5.1 update, give this a try. But don't forget to backup the 5.5.1 version of display.dll, because maybe this bug will be fixed with a future Blackmagic driver update...

Video streaming sessions freeze regularily

I am using a Genetec Omnicast server to stream video to the internet, through a DSL line. Since I put Cisco 831 routers between each end points, video sessions do freeze regularly (before I used linksys routers). I do not see any latency, queuing or else. The internet link is only used for video.
Any ideas fellows?

Please post your router configs.
It might be something simple like enabling Cisco Express Frowarding (CEF) or other parameter; posting the config makes it much easier to figure out.

Premiere Pro CC14 won't play video in timeline...

I upgraded to Premiere Pro CC14 when it came out. I've since started a new project that is a mix of stills and video with various FX. Before, everything played fine. Now, I open the project and can scrub through the timeline, but I hit play and nothing happens. The "play" button in the program window switches from the "play" symbol to the "stop" symbol, but nothing happens. The program doesn't freeze, but it just sits there, not doing anything. Even opening the source footage to play back in the source monitor, nothing happens. Otherwise, you can open things and they show up, but nothing plays.
Even starting a new project from scratch, importing one piece of video, and trying to play it gets the same result.
Is anyone else having this problem? Is there a solution?
I'm working on a MacBookPro Retina, with 16GB of RAM on Mavericks.

Encore CS3: First Play timeline freezes after burn only

Ok, so in Encore CS3 I have this timeline,it is set as first play and at the end it goes to a menu.
The video plays fine until near the end where it freezes on a frame for a few seconds and then continues fine. There are no other problems on the dvd. It occurs both on a physical disc and a disk image so it's not a player problem but it does not appear in Encore's previews.
I have tried re encoding the source file, deleting the timeline, re importing the footage.
Any suggestions?

Tell us more about your Assets on this Play First Timeline. What are the files, format, Duration, etc.? Is this file muxed, or elemental streams? The greater the detail, the better.
I have not seen the behavior that you observe, hence my questions.

What would cause my video to keep freezing?

Greetings, all ye of greater knowledge in areas like this.
Recently, I have had a strange problem with my video freezing. If I'm viewing the video on my timeline, it will ocassionally freeze, but my audio will keep playing. I can stop the timeline and hit play again and it unfreezes the video, but it still freezes at random while my audio seems to play without a problem.
Where this is becoming a nuisance is that my video is freezing in the same way when I try to print to tape. The audio will continue, but it will get stuck on a frame somewhere and will stay on it through the rest of the video while it's printing to the tape. Additionally, when I try to capture footage from my camera, I can get about 15 seconds into a clip and then it will either drop frames or freeze on my while the audio keeps going.
Does anyone know what may be causing this? It almost seems like there is a lag somewhere in my system, but I can't figure out where. This literally just seemed to pop up one day and it's like my computer has been running slower. i'm not sure if this is a FCP problem or a system problem, but I think it may have started with FCP.

eee! So many posts.
I currently have 2 harddrives hooked up. One has about 37.56 Gigs left on it (probably just over 3/4 full) and the other is nearly full. My files are saved onto it. I am editing in DV format and everything is rendered.
I have a drive allocated as the scratch disk.
I don't believe the drive is going to sleep. I would think it would effect my audio as well, since they are both located on the same drive.
For what it's worth, I ended up ejecting the drive I was using as I needed to do some other work and my system seemed to speed back up. I reopened Final Cut with and it's like my system isn't bogged down anymore. I may try capturing to tape using a different drive and see if maybe it was the drive itself that was bogging down my system.

Previewing/Playing HD SHQ MP4 video in Timeline is choppy and static.

Previewing and playing back my HD SHQ MP4 video from my Sony Xacti HD video camera in the Timeline is choppy. I have to export to QT in order for me to see the video smoothly.
I have crammed the Power Mac full of RAM (8GB) and have four external FW800 drives, and have set all the system settings to playback at full quality, but it still is choppy. Is there anything I can do? Or is this HD video just too much for even this machine?

It doesn't matter how fast your hardware configuration is.
mp4/h.264 is not an editing codec, but a delivery codec.
Look at your easy set ups. There are none for mp4/h.264.
Both formats are computational intensive and to decode them for editing is nearly impossible.
convert to DVCProHD or pro res or AIC. Those are editing formats.

Xf86-video-ati: system freezes after changing power profile to low?

I am running multihead with awesome-wm and the latest xf86-video-ati drivers (not from testing). when i change the power method to profile and change the power profile to low, the screen flashes, my temps start to go down and everything seems normal. a few minutes later the system hard freezes, can't ctrl-alt-del, power button doesn't work on a single press (have to press and hold). i don't have this problem when running dynpm but because i am running dual screens, the temps don't drop at all and hover around 66 degrees.
card is a radeon 6950.
this is a fresh install of arch, had arch installed on the same system about a year ago and didn't have this problem at all.

If I remember correctly this is known to be possible to happen (is that real english? ). In this case, just don't put it to "low", since it's quite experimental.

Audio out of sync with video in timeline SOLVED

The audio and video are in sync when playing .MP4 video (but may apply to other video files) in the Premiere Pro viewer and Windows Media Player and VLC however, as soon as you drag the clip into the timeline it goes out of sync. Since it took so much time for me to figure out how to get around this problem I wanted to share this, ESPECIALLY For all the people who are semi Adobe Premiere noobs (with no disrespect, I fall into this category) at this and google isn't helping to figure out why this is happening I'll give you the easy fix. For all the people in this forum who are going to ask the detailed information, codecs, etc. I'll give that as well.
FOR THE NOOBS:
All the information I've read online all seems to point that the timeline sometimes doesn't like certain audio contained in the video. It conforms incorrectly, etc. Personally, it doesn't make any sense to me. Forget all that.. you just want to get on with your project.. to heck with the details, you're tired of googling. Here's the solution I found. Extracting the audio from the problematic video file outside of Adobe Premiere. I use avconv, because it's free, open source, and you won't lose audio quality. Then linking that audio with the video in Adobe Premiere.
First if you are using a windows 32 bit computer download avconv here: http://win32.libav.org/win32/
If you are using a windows 64 bit computer download avconv here: http://win32.libav.org/win64/
go to the bottom of the page and click on the newest date version. DISCLAIMER: This is open source software. It's free. I didn't make it so I'm not trying to sell you anything.
It's a zip file so you will need to use winzip or 7zip to uncompress it. You can't just click on the installer. You can uncompress and save the program wherever you want on your computer. Say you didn't pay attention and you automatically saved it in the default spot in your downloads folder. The place you'd find the program might look like this if you're on a 64 bit computer:
C:\Users\youruseraccountname\Downloads\libav-9.7-win64 If you're on a 32 bit computer it will probably look like this C:\Users\youruseraccountname\Downloads\libav-9.7-win32
Just make sure you know where it is located and copy it down in notepad. If you can't find it, do a search on your C: drive for avconv .For this forum thread we will assume you have saved avconv in the downloads folder and you're on a 64 bit computer.
Click on the Windows key on your keyboard. Type in Run and then press enter. Type in CMD and press enter. This will open up windows command line. Don't worry, it's not as scary as you think.
Now hold down the Windows key and press E. This will open up a windows explorer window for you to find the video file you are having issues with in Adobe Premiere. Once you have found the file, copy the location of the file. So.. if your file was here: c:\Users\youruseraccount\videos\yourvideo.mp4 you would see that at the top of the windows explorer in what's called the address bar. Copy that. Paste it into your notepad.
Now switch back to the windows command line window. Now I'm going to have you type a command into the windows command line but before you do I want you to understand how to type it in.
#1. Do you know the exact path (location on your computer) where you installed avconv?
#2. Did you copy the exact path (location on your computer) where you have your video file?
If so.. type in the command below but change it with the information you have above
C:\Users\youruseraccountname\Downloads\libav-9.7-win64\usr\bin\avconv.exe -i "c:\Users\youruseraccount\videos\yourvideo.mp4" -vn -qscale 1 "c:\Users\youruseraccount\videos\yourvideo.wav"
So let's break it down so you understand and help troubleshoot any issues you may have.
C:\Users\youruseraccountname\Downloads\libav-9.7-win64 this is the example location we said we installed avconv. The actual avconv.exe program is located inside that folder so the full path would be this: C:\Users\youruseraccountname\Downloads\libav-9.7-win64\usr\bin\avconv.exe
-i just tells avconv what the input file is.
"c:\Users\youruseraccount\videos\yourvideo.mp4" is the path (location on your computer) where your video file is.
-vn just tells avconv you only want to extract audio from the video
-qscale 1 just tells avconv you want the best quality
"c:\Users\youruseraccount\videos\yourvideo.wav" just tells avconv the path (location on your computer) and the name you want to give the audio file you're taking from the video. This will save the audio wav file to the path (location on your computer) where the problematic video file is saved.
Once you have the audio wav file import it into Adobe Premiere. In the timeline, unlink the audio from the mp4 (or whatever video file you have). Highlight the now unlinked mp4 audio and delete the audio. Then bring your audio wav file you created using avconv and bring it onto the timeline at the start of the video. Now link it. Hopefully that did the trick.
If you have any questions regarding the command line or installing avconv please feel free to comment and ask. I'm pretty good at windows command line and can probably help identify what the issue is.

I don't know the type make/model video camera that was used or if it was converted before being given to me. This is just what i had to work with and the solution I found to fix it.

Then you won't be using anything above Premiere Pro CS4, and this thread would be in the wrong section.
By the way, the process is significantly easier using something like Xvid4PSP, which can strip out the audio using a fairly easy to understand GUI, as wel as convert those oddball videos into something PP can handle.
