Video Input/Capture

I just bought a G4 ti4200-VTD64 with video capture and I can't get the capture to work. I have reinstalled the capture driver twice and I have tried both composite and s-video. I can get the video out to work, so I don't think it is a hardware issue, but I am beginning to wonder. I would like any suggestions. Thanks.

Are you using the latest WDM drivers? I found 1.12 and up worked, but when I backtracked to 1.08 for bypassing Macrovision it would show up under Multimedia->Devices, but not in any app. I had to uninstall while in Safe Mode and reinstalled the 1.16 drivers.
Things that seem to affect it for me under Win98SE:
1) TV-out should be disabled (video properties, make sure monitor 2 isn't active or part of the desktop, it should be grayed out).
2) Under Advanced properties, Overlay Controls, if the "Check here if you are having problems with your TV Tuner" is checked then the video-in will be screwy and slow, at least on my 4400.
3) This might seem silly but make sure your SVHS or composite cable is plugged in *and* working! I had a bad one that made me think video-in was broken, till I tried another cable. My VCR's SVHS cable keeps coming loose from the switchbox whenever I swap out the output cable from the TV to the PC, and that made me think it was malfunctioning as well.
4) I think you already covered this, but selecting the correct input option (SVHS or Composite) is usually necessary since it wants to default to "tuner".
Aside from that, I had to reinstall my OS anyway because it was clogged up with old junk and drivers for my old GeForce2. If you're able to do it, a wipe and reinstallation may help.
WinProducer 2 is a BSOD piece of crap for recording, at least in MPEG-2 format, but WinDVR 2.0 is actually pretty good if you can find a copy. I'm in the process of copying over old VHS tapes. VirtualDub is great for capturing AVI, but you'll need to run the deinterlace filter after recording if you record over 320x240, then you can save to a compressed format like DivX. Get the HuffyUV lossless codec to record the raw AVI with.
One last hint: The 1.12 drivers and up have Macrovision built in so if you copy commercial tapes or DVDs you'll get a white bar across the image. It can be fixed this way:
Get a copy of the 1.08 drivers (you can web search for them). Extract 1.08 drivers to a new folder, and replace Nvcap.sys and Nvcap.inf *only* in the Windows directories(do file find on C:/windows to locate them) with the 1.08 versions. Reboot. Problem solved. I just found this tonight.
I hope some of this helps, I've had to tear my hair out as well over the past month upon getting this card!

  • Adusting video input signal while capturing???

    Hello
    I'm running Final Cut HD and am having trouble adjusting my video input signal. Under "Clip Settings" in the Capture Tool there appear to be controls, but they are disabled and my scopes do not appear to be reading either.
    Any thoughts on how to unlock these controls?
    Thank you,
    Bryan

    You can only adjust video levels if you capture component or SDI with a capture card.
    And Zeb, when people say FCP HD more often than not they mean the latest version. I know that FCP 4.5 was dubbed that, but people still hold onto that name.

  • Capturing video input via a usb connection

    i have a usb converter from interview 2.0. one end is the usb input and the other end has two different input options . . . one is an rca video input and the other is an s video input.
    is there a way to get this to work with imovie or something else on my pwerbook?

    iMovie is a video edit app meant to work with firewire connected miniDV camcorders
    .. firewire isn't just a plug and a cable, it is also some protocol standard... that's why you don't need any "drivers" to make iM work with any fw connected camcorder...
    some link to the manufacturer of your "converter" would be useful, I can not google any specs with your infos...
    but I'm afraid, that is a "PC only" product...
    so:
    a) no, doesn't work with iM
    b) needs some additional apps to get any input into a Mac... usb uses a very "slow" and instable connection, so my guess is, it uses some kind of compression, which isn't natively supported by iM (as mpeg) => needs conversion.... not useful.

  • Please help! Not able to set Video input Port(S-Video or Composite)on Linux

    Hi
    I am using JMF2.1.1e(Linux performance pack) for video capturing on Linux OS. I want to set video input port(S-Video or composite) through my application. I am using the following code:
         if ( dataSource != null )
              arrControls = dataSource.getControls ();
         if ( arrControls != null )
              nCount = arrControls.length;
         System.out.println("No. of Controls: " + nCount);
         for ( i = 0; i < nCount; i++ )
              if ( arrControls[i] == null )
                   continue;
              if ( !(arrControls[i] instanceof Control) )
                   continue;
              componentControl = ((Control)arrControls).getControlComponent ();
              System.out.println("ComponentControl : " + componentControl);
              if ( componentControl == null )
                   continue;
    But, i am getting No. of Controls: 0 (Zero). So i am not able to get any control component also. Rest of the application is working fine. Please help me solving this problem.
    Thanks in advance.

    To go a stage further.
    Google run a Jabber server for their service.
    Jabber apps (those that can) use a Protocol called Jingle to make the A/V connections.
    Google's version is not even that compatible with other Jabber apps. (See Here)
    The Plug-in in the Google Install (Or the Standalone Web Browser Plug-in allow Browsers to access the GoogleTalk A/V side as does the Standalone PC app called GoogleTalk as well.
    iChat uses a process called SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) to connect to other iChat Users or to the AIM for PC app.
    However this also works in any iChat to iChat Connection no matter if the Buddy List is an AIM Login based one, Jabber (including GoogleTalk) or A LAN based Bonjour Chat.
    In you care this is not going to work.
    Getting the Standalone (Intel only) Browser Plug-in and using the Chat option in the Google Mail Web page is probably the easiest option.

  • Em28xx:cross row noise only with S-video input

    The nice thing about Linux is that every step you make, behind the corner there is always a surprise.
    The surprise today is this:
    I have two versions of Arch Linux installed, both updated to the state of art. One with the last driver em28xx of linuxtv.org (rev 13044) for PCTV USB2 and the other with the driver em28xx-new-hg 0.20090409-1 downloaded from AUR for the card Terratec Cinergy XS.
    In both systems, the operation is perfect with both analog TV and composite video input.
    If, however, capture from s-video in both systems appear horizontal lines that occupy the entire screen the width of ten pixels. The visibility of these lines depends very much on the underlying color. With the blue are very visible.
    Note that in both systems have also installed windows that gives me very good results even for the S-video.
    Changing the format of capture in mplayer and v4l-ctl2 in every way possible does not affect whatsoever the problem.
    Is there any Guru em28xx that can give me a hand?
    Thanks

    The Sony GV-D200E is supposed to have a firewire out on it. Can't you just capture from that? Also, the Sony specs say that besides firewire it also has a composite video output. I would think that would be plenty good enough for hi-8 footage. I doubt very much if you would see any difference at all between that and the S-video given the source is hi-8.
    If can't do any of that, does your miniDV cam have a "pass-through" feature? Most Canon's have it. Anyhow, depending on how it works you may be able to run the proper lines from the Sony unit into your DV unit while passing right through it into the puter. I don't think CS4 will do a live capture, so you may need to capture with WMM instead. If nothing else you can probably record from the Sony to your miniDV and then pass that on to the computer.
    Good Luck

  • Vox S-Video input is black and white

    After a few issues, my Vox is up and running. The picture quality is disappointing on the TV broadcasts but of more issue for me is a problem with the S-Video input.
    The main reason I bought this was to capture old videos and transfer them to DVD. I have a scart lead attached to the back of the VCR with S-Video, Composite Video and Audio phono plugs on the other end. Using the composite video phono plug the picture is fine and I can capture the video. If I swap to use the S-Video plug (my preference as the quality should be better) it comes through in black and white. However, if I plug the S-Video and audio phonos into a television, the picture is fine.
    Has anyone experienced this or have any ideas what might be wrong?
    Thanks,
    Andrew.

    Hi Andrew.  I have the same problem.  Have you found a way round the problem?

  • Video Input

    Just a question about video input on iMacs. Is there any other way to get video input from an Xbox or another gaming console without having to but Elgato products? Why hasn't apple made a 19.99 input adapter to handle S-video or component input just like they have for video output?

  • No video input for external devices on iMac 24" display???

    I got a 24" iMac a few days ago and love this thing. (Was in PC **** for last 30 years...) But one thing I am disappointed in is that there appears to be no video input to display video or to video capture. Is the only way to display video from an outside source by using a USB video capture device? For example, if I have a cable box or game console I want to display on the monitor, how can I do that? Seems silly to need to use a capture device to simply display video. Please let me know if there is simple way to do this. Thanks!

    I don't see how using a camcorder would help especially although it would be technically possible to use it as a bridge between other devices I can't see how it would be worth your while.
    Obviously not speaking from experience since almost all if not all DV cameras have passthrough, and feed video into a mac via firewire from the analog audio and video input port on the DV camera. They have been used for ages as decks (and are many times cheaper than DV decks) and as converters vs. buying a Canopus box etc., which are basically the same thing.
    The EYE TV 250 does the same thing with a USB connection and its own software but for the myriad of DV cam owners the passthrough is a fine idea.

  • View HD Video Input on iMac Screen

    I would like to view the high-definition output of my cable company's hi-def cable box (via firewire, hdmi, dvi, usb, or composite connections) on my iMac's scree. Is there any such device that will do this? I have a high-def tv stick that does work with over-the-air ATSC broadcasts, but its only other input is standard analog cable at standard definition.
    Would something like this ADS Pyro video capture device work for this?
    http://www.adstech.com/products/API-558-EFS/intro/API-558_intro.asp?pid=API-558- EFS
    It appears to have hi-def inputs and output capability, but I'm not totally sure.
    Thanks!

    The iMacs support Video Input since iMac mid 2009 i have Play Station 3 connected on my new 27" iMac mid 2011. Im using the Belkin's HDMI to MiniDisplay Port Adaptor (It is only posibble to use the "DisplayTargetMode" from iMac-OtherMac, you have just to press cmd+f2) For all the other devices you will need an Adaptor  cuz' otherwise u won't be able to input at all, or you will not be able to use High Resolution hope this helped ppl, gl.

  • How do I make use of the Composite Video input jack on my HP pavilion Elite m9150f computer?

    I have a Pavilion Elite m9150f computer that has front panel jacks labeled "Composite Video Input,and Audio left and Audio right input" They are all RCA type.None of the PDF type manual files mention these jacks.I would like to make use of them to input video from either my old VCR that has the same output jacks and or a DVD player that is also equipped with the same set of output jacks.Finaly, I would like to know what programs should I use to view the video that I connect to these input jacks? Thanks for any and all ideas.

    If your m9150f still has Cyberlink DVD Suite Deluxe and the Hauppauge TV tuner installed, then you can use Cyberlink PowerDirector v6 to capture home videos from a VCR as MPEG2 movie clips (.mpg). The files can then be played using Windows Media Player or burned to disc using Windows DVD Maker. You can also edit the movie clips with PowerDirector or other video-editing software. MPEG2 video is not ideal for editing: there will be some loss of picture quality when the video is re-encoded. To minimize that, make your edited videos short and do not reduce the bit rate. Note: The jack on the back of the m9150f is Video Composite-01, the one on the front is -02. Be sure to select the right capture source in PowerDirector's Capture / Device Setup / Video Setup tab. I can't think of any good reason to use Composite jacks for DVD input as long as your m9150f has a functioning DVD drive.

  • Personal Cinema and S-Video input

    My Personal Cinema FX5200 set up works fine on TV-tuner and Composite Video, and I get good picture quality, and good sound using the Ulead Videostudio 7 software ( and Nero VisionExpress, too)....but when I use an S-Video lead from my VCR into the break-out block, I get black and white images only. I can live with capturing from the composite leads, but why doesn't the S-Video lead work? I have checked and double-checked all the settings, and have run out ogf ideas.
    Is anybody else having this problem with S-Video input?
    Does anyone have any suggestions where I might be missing something?
    Any help much appreciated...I don't like these little problems beating me!

    Ricardo this is not solution for you. Using S-Video cable can be used for video signal transfer only.
    Do you want to have picture without sound. I don't think so.
    I have made similar experiments and I have copied old VHS cassettes to my old Qosmio G30. Later I have converted recorded material and created DVDs.
    My Qosmio G30 has antenna in port and I have connected my VHS recorder to this port and transferred video and audio signal. I have for example started video on VHS recorder and started Windows media centre and scanned all channels and on channel 33 I saw my recorded material that comes from connected VHS recorder.
    I have tested recording with Qosmioplayer and MCE. Using both options I was able to use record option and have video material on HDD.
    I am sure the same can be done with G40. Check it out.

  • Iq506 s video input

    Hello, I cannot figure out how to get the s video input to work?! Is it there for show? Please assist how to enable it. IQ506

    Hello @dmsacco,
    Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
    I understand that you are trying to use the s-video input on your HP TouchSmart IQ506 Desktop PC and you are having issues with it. First what exactly are you trying to connect to the s-video? The S-video input on your computer is for capturing video. You can connect a VCR or analog camcorder using S-video cable or the composite to S-video adapter. You can then open Cyberlink PowerDirector and capture video and create home DVD movies.

  • Help for Dad - No Video Input

    My dad has a G4 tower. He uses it minimally for email and surfing the web.
    When he boots up the display shows:
    "No video input"
    With a camera icon and 2 faces and a blinking question mark.
    Any reason for this to pop up out of no where?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi
    The only thing I can think of is that he's added an application to his startup / login items (or it added itself on installation) that requires a video capture device. Under OS X 10.4 the login items can be maintained via the Accounts system preference. Failing that, could it be an iChat preference (Auto Start?) he's tinkered with?

  • OSX Upgrade has screwed up my video input!!

    Hey guys,
    My issue is that Final Cut is not recognizing my Video FireWire input now that I have upgraded to Tiger (10.4.11). It recognizes the audio input from the cameras (I've been using more than one as long as I've had my macs with Panther).
    Final Cut is telling me that my Apple FireWire NTSC (720x480) video input is "missing."
    Also, when I go to "Log and Capture" and hit "Play," it plays the video on the camera and plays the audio, but the Log and Capture screen remains with the "Preview Disabled" message.
    I should note that I've gone through all the basics with my mac and with Final Cut including checking the cable, the cameras, refreshing in Final Cut, fiddling with my Final Cut preferences - and my machine is showing that it is indeed reading my cameras when I check the "firewire bus."
    I have deduced that this must be due to the upgrade because I'm having the same issue on 4 other eMacs in the classroom at the school where I teach, which I've also upgraded from Panther to Tiger. And everything worked fine before the upgrade (which is making me regret ever doing it!).
    Can anyone help??? This is extremely frustrating!! Thanks,
    Dan

    Daniel,
    As has been pointed out already, FCP 4.5 runs best with Panther and QT 6.5
    In a lab situation such as yours where reliability for teaching rather than access to the latest os widgets and waggles, I would think it's paramount to stick with a reliable combination of applications to operating systems.
    FCP4.5
    OS 10.3.9
    QT 6.5
    I am also mystified that many folks keep thinking FCP 4.5 can and should run properly with Tiger and especially Leopard and when it doesn't they show up here whining and blaming Apple (I'm not talking specifically about you). Amazing.
    Good luck,
    Zeb
