Video input device

Question for you all. I want to input video, which is better;
1) Miglia's Directors Cut Take 2 or 2) Canopus ADVC110 analog/Dig. conv.
I thank you for your opinion.
Russ Andris

Hello Russ
I have used both units, output quality, there is nothing in it, and they are the same price bracket.
For build quality and looks the Miglia wins hands down, its an Apple supported device, you can buy it from the Apple Store, its classed as a professional product, the Canopus is a domectic level unit.
I see more of these than any other unit in broadcast edit suites in the UK for basic I/O.

  • 7.2.0 won't recognize video input devices and gives error 2003332927

Ever since upgrading to QT 7.2.0, my G5 duo 2.0 has been unable to use quicktime to record video from hardware that worked fine with earlier devices. Also this hardware is recognized fine by Final Cut Pro and iMovie even with QT 7.2.0 installed. I have attempted most maintenance fixes (fixing permissions, etc) but have hit a wall on this issue. I use two different pieces of hardware: a Panasonic DV 2000 recorder and a Data Video DAC analog to digital video converter. neither will be recognized by Quicktime. Because I have a second MAC G5 duo, I know the hardware is working properly under the earlier version of QT 7.1 When going to preferences in Quicktime and selecting the recording option, instead of recognizing the Panasonic, it just lists a generic DV option. Similarly, instead of recognizing the DAC converter, it just lists a generic DV converter. Then when attempting to record a movie after choosing one of the generic devices, I get the error prompt below:
"The operation could not be completed due to an unknown error. NSE error "MAC OS error 2003332929" Domain+NSOSStatusErrorDomain Code+2003332927).
I've tried switching the firewire port used to connect the devices with no relief there as well.
Any clue what's wrong? Or am I going to have to wait for another upgrade of Quicktime to fix this?

Fortunately I've been able to put a temporary fix into my system. By searching my primary drive for all Quicktime system files, I've deleted all files and dragged the application Quicktime 7.1.0 from another computer into the application folder. Restarting seems to have replaced all the library preference files needed for quicktime. It instantly recognized my video input items.
This obviously needs a more permanent fix which will only come when Apple releases the next version of Quicktime (possibly today with the release of Leopard).

  • Best audio/video input device

I am trying to find a good choice for my wife's Mac mini. I tried a couple that didn't work and went to the Apple store in Walnut Creek but they were not able to get either of the input devices I brought in to work. They also had none for sale in the store. They suggested searching on the internet but that has not been to successful either. Any mentions of ones that you know work with the Mac mini would be great.
    Thanks
    Jim

If your TV and Laptop both have the VGA socket on i.e it looks the same at both ends, then any VGA monitor cable will do the job, no need for any extras. Easiest thing is to do if possible is pinch a cable off sometning else to test. These cables are not a lot of money so don't be foolded into buying one of those super premium pro cables, it's really not necessary.
Audio wise you only have the headphone jack out on the laptop, and the tv probably has component in (RCA sockets) thats the norm anyway so you need to get a Phono to 3.5mm Stereo Jack lead of sufficint length.
something like this I'd imagine http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?ModuleNo=31700&doy=18m8 (sorry its a uk site)
Or if you have a Stereo system especially a surround one then you can rig the audio to that which will be even better
You will need to check the back of the TV or the manual to confirm this. If you took the manual and possibly the laptop into any decent TV store they should be able to sort it out.

  • Question from XP user in market for iMac (Video input)

I would like to buy a Apple desktop for my home. I would like to know what my options are if I want to connect Surround Sound, HD DVD player, external hard drive, Xbox 360, and Digital Cable to the screen. I would like to know if that is possible, if it has inputs and things of that nature. Both my living room TV and Windows HP Desktop are outdated and I would like to knock out 2 birds with one stone, so to speak. Is it possible? And if so, which model(s).
Thank you, all comments would be GREATLY appreciated, I'm not very computer savvy. Thanks.

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Unfortunately no iMac offers any kind of video input out of the box. There are Firewire and USB2.0 video-input devices which are good value but probably won't offer the kind of spec/quality that you will want to input HD DVDs for example.
Here's an example (link). There are HD tuners available too.
BTW, Apple stopped selling iMac G5s back in January of 2006. The current iMacs are termed "Intel iMacs".
    kind regards

  • TV Tuner or Video capture device for MBP

I'm wondering if there is a device usb or expresscard34 that can allow me to watch cable TV or just a composite video input device that can be used with a cable box. I know there must be lots of devices for PPC Macs but which ones actually work on MBP and which one do you guys recommend? I'm looking for something below $150. Thanks in advance!
    MacBook Pro 1.83Ghz 1GB RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I have been using an Elgato eyeTV DTT on an Intel Mac mini and it has been working really well using version 2.1 of the eyeTV software.
The eyeTV software comes with all Elgato eyeTV devices and works fine on Intel macs.
I am very impressed with the Elgato devices and can recommend them.

The second message that you are getting "The selected audio device "Beholder Aud Capture (SAA7135)" doesn't allow setting volume intensity. This warning message is just to tell user that volume slider will remain disabled for the selecetd device. This is new addition in FMLE 3.0 and was not there in FMLE 2.5
Also for first message, please make sure that no other instance of FMLE is already running using this device. You can verify this from task manager. If any other instance of FMLE is running then please close that instance so that device gets free for new instance.

  • USB Video Input

I'm not sure if this should go into the iMovie section or just general OS X section but, I'm going to put it here.
I'm working on a project for my job where I need to transfer some instructional videos that are VHS to DVD. So we (the people I work with) bought an LG GSA-5169D "One-Touch Video to Disc" DVD burner that has RCA in (to connect the VCR to the Burner) and then USB 2.0 out (to connect to the computer). It comes with Windows software, that once installed allows you to... do what the product is advertised to do, import a playing VCR to a video file and then burn that to a DVD. The point is, it allows video capture from a USB Video Input device.
Well, I have a Mac Pro (that also has Vista Ultimate installed on it) which makes me not only the best candidate for ANY video processing work but, everyone I work with has pretty old machines and none of them can transfer the video at high enough quality (the Windows software locks out certain levels of transfer if it reads a CPU that is too weak).
But, we thought that what might be possible is to use iMovie to capture video from this device. And it would be possible if we could get iMovie, or rather OS X, to recognize the connect USB device as a USB Video Input device. Now I know that since 10.4.3, OS X has a UVC class driver so, shouldn't it be able to see the input? Am I just grasping at straws?
(By the way, for those of you thinking I should just install the software on my Vista partition and do it that way, the software just locks up when I attempt to install it on Vista. Braindead, BS LG software.)
Basically, to lay it out simply, my goal is to somehow get some sort of adequate video capturing software to recognize and receive and USB Video Input.
I'd appreciate ANY kind of help or suggestions.

The only hope I've ever found for doing it straight through, with no passthrough camera, is using VideoGlide (http://www.echofx.com/videoglide.html) but I can't quite figure it out. When I go into Video sources, USB Video Input is grayed out even though that's what it's supposed to do. It even lists the drive that I have on the page as a supported device! I don't know.
Yeah, I figured there were plenty of people with my predicament and you gave me a solid reply so I'm just going to mark this question as resolved. Thank you.

  • No video input for external devices on iMac 24" display???

I got a 24" iMac a few days ago and love this thing. (Was in PC **** for last 30 years...) But one thing I am disappointed in is that there appears to be no video input to display video or to video capture. Is the only way to display video from an outside source by using a USB video capture device? For example, if I have a cable box or game console I want to display on the monitor, how can I do that? Seems silly to need to use a capture device to simply display video. Please let me know if there is simple way to do this. Thanks!

I don't see how using a camcorder would help especially although it would be technically possible to use it as a bridge between other devices I can't see how it would be worth your while.
Obviously not speaking from experience since almost all if not all DV cameras have passthrough, and feed video into a mac via firewire from the analog audio and video input port on the DV camera. They have been used for ages as decks (and are many times cheaper than DV decks) and as converters vs. buying a Canopus box etc., which are basically the same thing.
The EYE TV 250 does the same thing with a USB connection and its own software but for the myriad of DV cam owners the passthrough is a fine idea.

  • Remote System Input Device Not Working

    Hi,
when i try to connect remote system through RDP, input device (Keyboard & Mouse) in remote system is too slow, it takes more time to respond. Tried to take RDP from different system but same problem.
    Looking forward for your response.

    Hi Mohan,
Since the slowness of displaying mouse movement and input from Keyboard does happen to multiple systems, seems like poor performance to me.
You may improve performance by increasing network bandwidth, reducing workload on the Terminal Server, updating video and network card drivers.

  • RGB, Composite, Firewire and S-video capture device for FCP

    Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone could suggest some of the better capture cards that support RGB composite, firewire and s-video inputs that will work with FCP.
The set up is on Mac Pro and the device needs to be as reliable and noise free as possible as it will be used for the capturing of video for evidence in court cases.
Any help is this area would be very grateful,
    Regards,
    Martin.

    Hello,
I have no experience with the AJA product line but I know that many of the folks here have used them. They make a good line of cards that will do what you are asking for. They don't have firewire on the cards, but the computer you are using should have one I would assume.
Since you said 'S-Video' my thoughts are that you are only using SD? If that is going to be the case for a long time then look at this card:
    http://www.aja.com/products/kona/kona-lse-ls.php
It has composite and S-Video inputs. IF there is the chance that you are going to be doing HD and IF it is still tape based, then look at one of the higher models. But again, that is if you are going to be upgrading to HD sometime soon.
    Hope this helps.

  • Video input/ iMac display as monitor

    Hello everybody,
I have got a feature request for future releases of the iMac series. I think I would not be the only one appreciating a solution to use an iMac's display as monitor for other computing devices such as the Mac mini or older PC-hardware. In my opinion this video input would not have to be more than another little port at the back of an iMac. This could be solved with a mini-port like it is now with the mini-DVI.
When trying to find a way to use my iMac that way I only found this vnc solution which requires a network connection between both devices but I also found many posts asking for a solution like my proposal.
Please let me know what you think of it! Thanks in advance!

It's not that easy. Providing a direct input to the monitor would require quite a bit of additional circuitry. I think that the cost of providing such in input would be unjustifiable when considering the small percentage of iMac buyers who would use such a feature. But you can suggest it to Apple here:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/imac.html
For a workaround, perhaps Screen Recycler would work for you.
