Video input via USB?

I know I can't input to iMovie via USB.
But I have a Pinnacle analog to USB video converter/adapter that I'd like to use to import video from VHS tapes to mac.
The Mac doesn't seem to recognize the signal.
Is there a way to manually select the source?
Any suggestions on an encoder, I also own Final Cut Express , 2but never installed it.
Thanks,
-T

Yes, pinnacle software is definately not mac compatible, some of their hardware devices seem to indicate mac compatibility via firewire however.
What you are viewing are their packages that bundle the capture device and variations of their editing software, which is the basis for windoze MovieMaker.
I am looking for anyone who might have knowledge on how to utilize the video signal as the pinnacle capture device delivers it via usb.
TIA

  • Capturing video input via a usb connection

i have a usb converter from interview 2.0. one end is the usb input and the other end has two different input options . . . one is an rca video input and the other is an s video input.
is there a way to get this to work with imovie or something else on my pwerbook?

iMovie is a video edit app meant to work with firewire connected miniDV camcorders
.. firewire isn't just a plug and a cable, it is also some protocol standard... that's why you don't need any "drivers" to make iM work with any fw connected camcorder...
some link to the manufacturer of your "converter" would be useful, I can not google any specs with your infos...
but I'm afraid, that is a "PC only" product...
    so:
    a) no, doesn't work with iM
    b) needs some additional apps to get any input into a Mac... usb uses a very "slow" and instable connection, so my guess is, it uses some kind of compression, which isn't natively supported by iM (as mpeg) => needs conversion.... not useful.

  • Video input via firewire

This seems to be a common question with only expensive solutions.
It cost me $40.00 (Canadian) to export video from iBook to TV via 'Apples Video Adapter Kit'. But it's going to cost about $200.00 to get video into my iBook via 'MyTV' or 'EyeTV' type products?
There's got to be a cheaper way but I can't find it.
As far as I understand it's even more expensive, about $350.00 or $400.00 to input video through Firewire, but appearantly that's the only way to record live to iMovie.
I bought an iSight, and it's wonderful, but it's not like I can take it camping without the iBook. lol
Anybody have a cheap solution? I'd settle for video in USB at this point and worry about Firewire later.
    Or simply correct my ignorance.

    Hi Q_ball,
What exactly are you trying to do? Do you have a video camera that you want to put the media on the iBook? Are you trying to get TV on your iBook?
"It cost me $40.00 (Canadian) to export video from iBook to TV"
Yes, this to mirror your iBooks display on a TV. The eyeTV is to take TV shows from the TV (analog, cable, etc) and put it on your iBook. The newest models let you also hook up your game console.
"As far as I understand it's even more expensive, about $350.00 or $400.00 to input video through Firewire, but appearantly that's the only way to record live to iMovie."
I am sorry, what are you talking about? Where do you get these figures? Are you talking about getting it from a video camera? Most video cameras have both FireWire and USB 2.0. iMovie works seamlessly with FireWire camcorders, but USB is a different story. Do you have a camcorder or are you in the market of buying one? I hope I don't sound rude, I just don't understand what you want. What are you trying to accomplish exactly?

  • Audio/Video input via RCA connection on HP pavillion desktop PC

I have an HP pavillion elite hpe-360z CTO desktop PC running Windows 7 Professional (64 bit).  There are a number of interface connections in the front, including USB 2.0, I394, S-video, and RCA (A/V In).  I want to input video from a camcorder into this PC via the RCA connection, but I can't seem to get it to recognize that there is anything connected there.  Is there a driver I need to get to make this work?
    Thanks

    Hi,
As from your original message which says your machine has a wirefire port. Canon ZR70 use miniDV tapes therefore a firewire cable is a perfect match for this situation. The camera may use 4-pin connector and computer normally uses 6-pin connector. As mentioned above, one cable similar to one of the following cables will definitely help.
      https://www.google.com.au/search?q=4+to+6+pin+firewire+cable&hl=en&tbo=u&rlz=1G1GGLQ_ENAU282&source=...
    Regards.
ps You may need driver for the Canon.

  • Connecting an epson video projector via usb

I did this once before I had to get technical support when I did it that time as well, but now I have updated, re-formated and re-updated my system and do not remember the steps in order to be able to use an epson video projector to my MacBook Pro via an usb connection.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, Kgtalbott
If you can import DV from your Sony camcorder via Firewire, you Mac is recognizing your "camera/Firewire connection".
When the Sony is connected and turned on, if your Mac's Finder > Go > Utilities> System Profiler app will not show your Sony camera as a connected Firewire device, try the suggestions in What to do if your computer won't recognize a FireWire or USB device.
If you are having difficulty only with one particular application, let us know which app has the problem and whether that app works correctly with your MacBook Pro's built-in iSight.

  • Need software that supports video in via USB. QT Pro/iMovie= firewire only

my friend can upload video from his cam into his pc via the USB but i can't. All I have is Final Cut Pro, iMovie HD and QT7 Pro. They All want firewire.
k, i could get a cable but i'd like to save the trip.
    anything out there?
    tnx

Sndchch,Read this article which I believe will solve your problem.
Generally USB can't sustain the data rate required for full quality video and so is not the choice for video transfer.

  • S-Video Input

    Hey guys!
I would like to replace my current Intel Pentium 4 PC and cannot decide if I should get an iMac or build a PC. Anyways, I am not going to ask that here since I know what the outcome is going to be.
What I would like to know is if the iMac supports S-Video input via an adapter / splitter like most PC video cards with VIVO do. The reason why I need this is that I have a DVB-C receiver which I would like to use with my computer because currently, I don't have a TV. I know that I could buy something like the Elgato eyeTV if I needed S-Video, but that would be too expensive right now and also a waste of money because I only need the S-Video input - no need for a TV tuner or the ability to record shows.
    Seb

There is no video input on an iMac. The only way to get video into an iMac is through Firewire or USB.

  • Captivate Video Recording via web cam?

Is it possible to do Captivate Video Recording via USB web cam? All I can see so far is about its ability to record screens and applications, but not do an actual video recording via a video camera input. Audio is no problem allowing you to insert audio from a file or do a live audio insert. Video however seems limited to insert from a file only. This would seem to imply you need a separate video recording application to capture video via a camera input, which is obviously disappointing if that's the case.

Thanks. Hopefully they will add this basic functionality to Captivate ASAP. It's a missing fundamental element. i.e. to be able to add video annotation to your slides. Lectora Publisher does it and so should Captivate in my view, given it's supposed to be among or overall ahead of the leading products. Seamless audio / video annotation is a very common requirement nowadays.

  • Video Input Feature

I'm writing this, even though Apple devs & engineers may never see it.
Apple, please make your iMac have a video-input via HDMI, and create a shortcut that would allow the iMac to switch to another input (similar to Mission Control's multiple desktops).
This is an incredibly simple task that Apple is more than able to implement with little cost, please please please do this. Or please work with intel on the Thunderbolt connection, or give us one mini-display port back. A bit disappointed I spent this much on a computer that lost basic a feature it didn't need to lose.

  • L2321 versus L2230 LCD Monitor - video input and preset modes differences

I am trying to decide between the ThinkVision L2321  and L2230 LCD monitors, and although the obvious difference is the size  (ie. 23 in versus 21.5 in), the only thing I have a question about is the difference between their Preset Modes Text and the Video Inputs description which I found on the Lenovo Website when I do a comparison of the two.
    L2321 -  23 in.
Preset Modes Text  -  VGS Factory mode Addressability Incoming video (H x V Pixels) refresh rate -----
    NTSC 60 Hz NI PAL 50 Hz NI 640 x 350 70 Hz NI 640 x 480
    Video Inputs:     Analog / Digital
    L2230 -  21.5 in

    Video Inputs:     VGA / USB
If someone can help clarify this so that I can understand which is the better monitor and the reason for it, I would be very appreciative,  or  perhaps they are much the same and it is the difference in the size which makes them appear to have a difference.
    Thanks!

I have a USB-based Analog-to-Digital video converter that I used when I had my PC, for transferring old family video tapes to digital to burn DVDs.

no, you can not use that device, because usb-devices need specific 'drivers', which in most cases are of no avail for Mac ..

many harddrive-camcorders are connected via usb, and DO work with Mac..

I would like to connect my iPad to my older TV but the only inputs available are the s-video input port on the TV itself and there is also a USB input port on the satellite box that feeds the TV. I could also split all the RCA jacks to accomodate another input here. Thanks in advance for any and all help with this problem of mine..............RR.

  • 5G Video iPOD stopped charging via USB: can someone help?

I bought 5G video iPOD last month. After about a month of charging via USB 2.0 port on WinXP desktop, iPOD no longer charges with USB port. If I connect it to desktop, it syncs songs and shows its charging but in fact it does not charge. As it can't sleep, its loosing power. If I hook it up in the night, its discharged in the morning.
I tried to charge it in the car (with car charger), iPOD charges fine. I have tried to change ports, tried different computer (laptop) and also sent iPOD for service, NOTHING HELPS!
I sent it for repair to Apple, but i got it back in 1 week saying its is perfect condition and no other details. (Very disappointed with Apple's lack of service)
Right now, I am stuck with iPOD not charging with any USB port. How do I solve this? Can the usb ports suddenly become low powered from high powered? Please advice.

  • Issues transferring photo/video from iPhone 6 to Macbook Pro running OS X 10.8.5 via USB-to-Lightning cable

    Hello all—
Recent upgrader to iPhone 6. I have a mid-'09 Macbook Pro running OS X 10.8.5 Mountain Lion and I'm seeking to transfer video I just shot on my iPhone 6 to my Macbook Pro. They are large files so I need to transfer via USB-to-Lightning cable as I don't have wi-fi capability to do the upload. However I can't access the iPhone 6 as a storage device through finder or image capture and can't figure out another way to transfer the files non-wirelessly. Any suggestions? The old iPhoto '09 on here won't let me import, either.
