Video input with iMac 24"

Ever since the 27 inch came out and announce the ability to input a signal via mini displayport I've been researching on how exactly this works. The majority of people are saying that it is a feature that only the 27 inch offers but there are two sites in particular that sell a converter that keep mentioning that it'll work with the 24 inch. I was wondering if anyone has tried this out or knows for a fact the answer to the question.
Here are the two products in question
Apogee Belfan
Altona AT-DP200
And just as a side note, does this mean that apple has finally added audio the mini displayport or would that still be a separate issue?

Those converters work with the 24" Cinema Display, not the 24" iMac.
does this mean that apple has finally added audio the mini displayport or would that still be a separate issue?
That is a separate issue, and they have not.
Regards.

  • View HD Video Input on iMac Screen

I would like to view the high-definition output of my cable company's hi-def cable box (via firewire, hdmi, dvi, usb, or composite connections) on my iMac's scree. Is there any such device that will do this? I have a high-def tv stick that does work with over-the-air ATSC broadcasts, but its only other input is standard analog cable at standard definition.
Would something like this ADS Pyro video capture device work for this?
    http://www.adstech.com/products/API-558-EFS/intro/API-558_intro.asp?pid=API-558- EFS
It appears to have hi-def inputs and output capability, but I'm not totally sure.
    Thanks!

The iMacs support Video Input since iMac mid 2009 i have Play Station 3 connected on my new 27" iMac mid 2011. Im using the Belkin's HDMI to MiniDisplay Port Adaptor (It is only posibble to use the "DisplayTargetMode" from iMac-OtherMac, you have just to press cmd+f2) For all the other devices you will need an Adaptor  cuz' otherwise u won't be able to input at all, or you will not be able to use High Resolution hope this helped ppl, gl.

  • Does apple have any products to facilitate video input on iMac 27"?

I want to input video to my iMac 27". I assume you can add a display port video card to a pc, what about VGA and hdmi support?  Has apple addressed this?  I know there was the belkin av360, apple doesnt like It anymore?

What is the fastest and best external hard disks for video use with Imac (I believe it is currently not possible to use Esata on the Imac).

For DVCam. HDV etc, I'm a fan of the G-raid drives. From personal experience they
are very solid performers. I only had one issue with a new drive that was replaced
next day. They are not the cheapest drives to be found but the build quality

  • External Video Monitor with iMac possible.

    Dear friends,
recently i have bought one imac 21.5" mid 2010 model. i am a film maker. i make TVC s, corporate docu, docu and short films. previously i worked hiring differnt post production studios but with growing volume of work i there was need for a personal edit setup. i have FC Studio 7 installed in my imav. i wanted to connect one external video monitor to facilitate the edit work flow. 1st i bought and connected a mini dp to vga adaptor and connected my 6 series samsung lcd tv with it. but the result was not satisfactory. now the lcd tv have become the second monitor and the system was working as dual monitor system. i wanted 1 video monitor as we get in pro studios. then i bought 1 mini dp to HDMI adapotor and connected it with the lcd tv throgh HDMI cable. fantastic. system took it automatically. Now i opened FCP, set a/v display to full screen, audio out to HDMI then view>external video>full frame. and u are through. now yuo can see the time line output in the LCD tv with sync audio. cheers. any better way to calibrate the second monitor?

Thanks a lot for your help.
If i consider an old model, maybe one with a DisplayPort input (late 2009 or mid 2010 iMac), is there a chance to connect the card with the DP input with a simple cable, or to verify the compatibility? The card has a DP output but many articles say that screen flickering or blue screen is the result...

  • Making a video input for iMac

Anyone tried to modify the iMac to add a Videoinput? I'm electroni engineer and after disasembly my ibook, i think with a little patiente and some knowladge we can make a Video input. Any help?

    Any idea on bandwidth considerations?
    Apple's firewire 800 .vs.an HDTV stream out of a component (Xbox 360)?
My only thought (gut) would be the HD stream would saturate the firewire 800:?
    FireWire (IEEE 1394b) 800 800 Mbit/s
    Per : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megabitpersecond
    55 Mbit/s — HDTV quality 1080p
So at first blush I seem well under the threshold.
BUT, a DVI conector specs blows this away:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dvi
    # Maximum clock frequency in single link mode: Capped at 165 MHz (3.7 Gbit/s)
    # Maximum clock frequency in dual link mode: Limited only by cable quality (more than 7.4 Gbit/s)
So, my conclusion is DVI specs are not what I should look at but rather the average HDTV 1080p stream.
Still, now all I need is a thirdparty vendor to create the box!

  • Can I video record with iMac?

Can I record video directly with the built-in iMac camera?
    I am using OS X 10.8.3

You have different ways of recording video with the built-in camera:
    1. Using Photo Booth. It's an application preinstalled with OS X where you can record videos.
    2. Using QuickTime Player. As db24401 said, open it and go to File menu > New Movie Recording.
    3. Use a third-party application. They include more features that you may want. I recommend Screenflow

  • Video Problem with iMac to Apple TV after Mavericks upgrade

Since upgrade to Mavericks, my Apple TV receives audio, but not video from my iMac.

How are you connecting to the Apple TV?

  • Can video chat with Imac non-intel but not with Powerbooks

    Hi,
I have a Linksys WRT54G firmware v. 1.0.6 connected to a Comcast Cable modem. My IMac Intel Duo (OS 10.4.6) is connected via ethernet cable to the router. I am set to DHCP on router and IMac. My Quicktime settings is at 1.5mb, I have tried with firewall off and on with the appropriate ports open. I have tried upnp on and off.
I can connect to other Imacs (non-intel) but not to powerbook G4's. With the Powerbooks I can text chat, but sometimes they can see my text, but I can't see theirs. And every video chat is a fail to respond with the powerbook, but they can connect with others.
Is there anything else I can do?
    Please help. Thanks.

    Hi cmbell,
Do you know how to access your modem ?
This should give you somewhere to turn off DHCP.
Then you go to System Preferences > Network and select the connection method you are using.
    Then select the TCP/IP tab.
In the drop down that says Using DHCP change it to Manually. (or Manual with DHCP if doing James' way)
Type the IP you wish to use in the next entry field.
Copy the subnet mask form the Using DHCP
    Copy any DNS servers listed.
Copy the router IP address which will be the modem or router in question.
    Hit Apply.
    Done.

  • Multi video possible with iMac G5

apple's ichat page says any G5 can initiate up to 4-way video conference
yet on my friends imac G5, ichat only shows the one way capable camera icon next to the user's name in the top of the window. and it gives the message that this computer cannot initate more than a 2-way chat
on my own dual 1ghz G4, i see the camera icon with the multi person accent, meaning i can initiate.
my friend's 1.8ghz imac G5 should be able to initiate 4-way video, right?
any one know why it can't?
    its running OSX tiger 10.4.2
    512 ram
    DSL modem
    iSight camera

    Hello Steelee,
I do not often disagree with Bill, but I respectfully offer a different opinion here.
doesn't the iMac G5 1.8ghz make the cut for the first 2?
Yes it does. (I think, Bill ...) ANY G5 works.
The DP requirement only deals with G4 processor Macs.
However, in order to address your other concerns, I have a few questions about your initial post wherein you write:
... on my friends imac G5, ichat only shows the one way capable camera icon next to the user's name in the top of the window.
    (my emphasis added.)
    (0) By "on my friends imac G5", do you mean you are in the same room with your friend looking at the monitor of his actual G5?
    (1) By "one way capable camera icon", do you mean the Flat Camera iCon rather than the Stacked Camera iCon?
    (2) By "next to the user's name in the top of the window" do you mean next to your friend's display name in the upper (gray colored) border of your friend's Buddy List on his monitor on HIS G5 Mac?
If the answer to all three of these is "yes", your G5 friend should try the suggestions in Help for iChat AV 3 Problems.
If he does this and meets all the other requirements of Apple's System Requirements for iChat AV 3, his G5 should be able to host multi-party videos with other iChat AV 3 users who also meet the System Requirements.

  • Bonjour video problem with iMac G5

When I look at my bonjour window in iChat on my wife's iMac G5, I see my computer (a G5 dual) with a video icon and I can successfully initiate a video iChat. On the other hand, when I look at the Bonjour window on my G5 dual, it shows my wife's iMac G5 with only the telephone icon and, of course, I can't initiate a video iChat. If I look at the Buddy List instead, I can initiate video iChats in both directions. What is going on?

    Hi Raja,
in iChat go to the View Menu.
Check that the "Show Video Status" item is selected (ticked).

  • Video-shoutbox with iMac, QT or iMovie and a DV-Cam

    I want to make a Video-Shoutbox on a Party.
My idea: An iMac with a Kiosk-Software. Maybe QT-Pro can make the clips. And a DV-Cam the Videos.
What i need is a possibility to push one Button, and you can 30 seconds record on the mac. After the 30 seconds you have to push or click the button again to make a new record.
After the evening you have a folder with all the clips in it and can now edit this clips in imovie or elsewhere.
    How can i do that?

One way is with an Applescript script written to run in QuickTime Player. Here's such a script. It would be called from the kiosk screen.
Be sure to read the notes in the script.
    Karl
-- Script by: Karl D. Petersen
    -- 7/20/2006
-- This script records a 30 second movie, or whatever duration you set.
-- Copy this script and Paste into a new document in Script Editor, the
    -- Applescript editor.
-- WARNING: This script requires that the checkbox "Enable access for assistive devices" in
-- Universal Access control panel of System Preferences be turned ON.
-- Otherwise an error will occur.
-- To prevent a timeout failure with some cameras, remove tape from camera.
-- Set camera to record mode.
-- If QuickTime Player fails to see camera, re-launch QT Player.
-- Before the recording begins, the script will play a "5, 4, 3, 2, 1 Action!" movie that
-- you've recorded. (The Action! movie must be open in QuickTime Player.) Enter the name of your
-- Action! movie in the property below.
-- When the recording ends, it will also play a "Cut!" movie that you've recorded.
-- (The Cut! movie must be open in QuickTime Player.) Enter the name of your
-- Cut! movie in the property below.
-- To control how this script behaves, use Script Editor to set these five properties:
property recordingTime : 30 -- set this to the desired recording time, in seconds
property ActionMovieName : "Action!.mov" -- optional. The name of your Action movie. Must be open.
property CutMovieName : "Cut! That's a wrap.mov" -- optional. The name of your Cut movie. Must be open.
property countdownBeeps : 5 -- set this to the desired countdown beeps before recording begins. Optional

    Welcome to Discussions, DillonR333
    (1) I am not certain exactly what you are trying to do because hotmail is email. If you merely want to attach a video clip to an email, your iSight can do that without mercury.
    (2) If you are looking for a video chat app that is compatible with the Windows Live chat server, consider the following:
Because Microsoft has apparently changed its protocols, the old Mac alternatives
(Microsoft Messenger for Mac, Mercury, and aMSN) will no longer connect for video.
    For more info, see: http://tinyurl.com/ycxnbpr
    (3) Any video chat apps, including the above, can work with your built-in iSight. If you think you iSight may be faulty, troubleshoot as recommended here:
      http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
    (4) If you have problems video chatting even though your iSight works with Apple apps like QuickTimeX and iMovie, your problem is likely software. You will need to determine whether you are using the correct client app for the chat servers that your contacts use. Ask your contacts to tell you what computer, OS, and application they are using for video chat. From that info, we can determine which software you need to run to connect to the same chat server they are using.
    (5) If your problem remains although you have compatible client software and your iSight works with Apple apps, you may have a bad download or install of the software. You can try downloading and reinstalling again.
    (6) We will watch for your status update. If you need more suggestions, give as much info as you can about what you are trying to do and what you have tried that does not work. We will offer more specific suggestions based on the details in your reply.

The feature you are interested in is called 'Target Display Mode'. As X423424X implied the feature is supported on the 27-inch iMac's with built in Thunderbolt support, but it was also supported on the older 27-inch iMac's wihich had the Mini DisplayPort.
